Servings are large enough so that you can definitely split an entree. Tonight we ordered onion rings - fantastic, black bean tortilla soup, - yum! a veggie sandwich, fries, chicken sandwich, and drinks. Their garlic bread was served as we first sat down. We left with leftovers for tomorrow. In fact, I didn't take one bite out of my sandwich. I already know it's excellent from my last visit. I've been to eat here a few times and it's always been fine, we just went in for Brunch and I ordered a breakfast sandwich with avocado ( 50 cents extra) and bacon. When it came it has this weird processed avocado spread on it. When I said I would like some real avocado they said they didn't have any and the processed paste in a tube was all they had. It was so disgusting! I could barely eat my food. If you're going to advertise Avocado on your menu either carry it, or let people know you only have the processed gross spread in a tube. I'm giving two stars because our waitress was nice about it, otherwise it would be one star. read more

Just when I was wanting to find a new restaurant in Missoula, I found The Trough. I received a BOGO coupon for breakfast, so we ordered the skillet breakfast. I was so blown away by this amazing breakfast! It was perfectly cooked hash browns, sautéed onions and green peppers, bacon, cheese and eggs all in the most adorable little cast iron skillet! We ordered the country gravy on the side, which made the skillet so amazing! The homemade jelly was incredible on the toast and the coffee tasted fresh and they had real cream and honey for my coffee. I loved the look of the inside. It had beautiful big windows from floor to ceiling in the front and it was so clean. We sat by the warm fire. I am so glad that we found this delicious breakfast restaurant. Based on the food alone, this place is worth 4 stars. However it took a very long time for the waitress to take our order and it wasn't busy at all. The bathroom was very gross. It is single occupancy, one restroom per gender. The women's restroom had the soap dispenser hanging off the wall and urine all over the one toilet seat. read more

My husband and I just ate breakfast here and it was wonderful. We both had breakfast sandwiches. After taking a few bites out of my sandwich, I asked our waitress if she wouldn't mind heating mine up some more, since I'm pregnant and not supposed to eat deli meat unless it's been thoroughly heated. She reacted with incredible courtesy (given my neurotic, first-time mom request) and the kitchen actually made me an entirely new sandwich! The space is incredibly cute. I have usually had dinner or lunch at The Trough, and this was my first breakfast experience. I ordered veggie browns. They came in an individual serving sized skillet. The meal consisted of breakfast potatoes, overdone broccoli, and very gooey cheddar cheese, served with two eggs atop. I will give The Trough another try, but this is not a meal I would order again. Today is the second time we have visited this lovely hidden treasure. Items of note are a gorgeous lobster bisque that they make fresh every weekend as well as an incomparable Hollandaise sauce that you don't need eggs benedict for. It's a dollar fifty for a soup cup size serving of hollandaise and you can literally eat it with a spoon or dunk your toast in it or put it on your eggs or whatever. Very friendly service ... a only got a coffee drink I have eaten here before...it is good I hear but I got the prosciutto panini and I remember was so excited when I saw prosciutto on the menu but it was cooked ... I just found out today when I asked them they buy it pre cooked! That's an Italian delicacy RAW.... my mama would be mad .. but it still is not a bad sandwich and other food is great. And the coffee drinks definitely work ...I can't stop writing I'm flying lol... all in all this is a wonderful place and you really can't beat the customer service ...just bring your own raw prosciutto! Ordered the Trough through Grubhub during Quarantine. I ordered the Reuben and my friend got the Pulled Pork sandwich. I highly recommend this play, the food was delivered hot and the ingredients were delicious and fresh. My friend was raving on the pulled pork sandwich! First time eating here today and we weren't disappointed. Everything we ordered was wonderful!! Fresh cut fries, homemade soup and delicious sandwiches. My only complaint is the wait staff. When we arrived there were only 5 tables occupied. We stood at the entrance for a few minutes before being acknowledged and seated. It took entirely too long for someone to take our order even though there were at least 4 girls standing behind the counter. When our food was delivered we had to ask for refills for our empty drinks. After our refills came no one came over to check on us the rest of the meal?!? Even after stacking our plates and (again) empty drinks and sitting there with a card in our hand no one stopped by. We finally went to the counter and asked to pay so we could go. As a waitress myself I understand being in the weeds there's no excuse for their absence with that many servers and only 5 tables. read more

Staff seems untrained, and it's as if a manager is not there. Adult son and I went to The Through yesterday, a Saturday, at about 11:15. It was busy and we were fine waiting for a table for 20 minutes. Ordered a coffee and a mimosa. We were not offered water. Never saw any servers using trays throughout our dining experience. Server brought mimosa, coffee (in a large paper cup), and a pitcher of cream. She was distracted and poured cream all over me as she came to deliver the drinks. She was apologetic and the cream was able to be wiped from my leg and shoes. I ordered the veggie browns with potatoes on the side, and a side order of pastrami (note pastrami is listed as an option for the breakfast sandwich on their brunch menus), and a croissant. My son ordered the huevos rancheros without pork. Then we waited, and waited and waited. We watched the chaos. Serves taking food to the wrong tables (us included). Inefficiency with no one using trays and serves bustling around empty handed. Two other tables nearby were sat after us and had food before us, one even paid their bill before we had our food. A server, not ours, brought whole wheat toast and said our food was coming soon. When we said we hasn't ordered toast, she took it away and we waited another 20 minutes for our food. When our food came, potatoes weren't on the side. No pastrami was served. Our server told us that pastrami wasn't an option on her iPad ordering system and thus she hasn't ordered it for us. The whole experience was odd. They need to really step up their game. read more

I was home visiting my family and they took me to eat lunch here. It is a nice and cozy little cafe with delicious food. I had the prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich with Thai chicken curry soup. We just dined at the Trough for lunch after going to the farmers market today. We've been on a search to try out some restaurants with a patio and I'm not going to lie we had one purpose for going out there...the Trough steak fries. I read the description on their website and just had to try them. Hand-cut fries smothered in swiss and cheddar cheese, topped with ribeye and tenderloin steak bites, roasted anaheims, carmelized onions, garlic aioli and roasted garlic. Are you drooling yet?? They were so freaking awesome!! All of the flavors combined into these ooey gooey bites of deliciousness. No joke. I would come back just for these fries. We took a picture, but we started munching on them first. We also ordered the green chili bison burger-- this was probably the best bison burger in Missoula. It wasn't the preformed-out-of the freezer burgers that seem to be the norm. This was legit!! The pesto salmon sandwich was good, but it seemed like it needed a little something and the Maui chicken sandwich is a messy one, but pretty tasty. We enjoyed every bite. This restaurant was a little bit of a drive compared to all of the restaurants in Missoula, but totally worth it. I can't wait to come back to try out the breakfasts and dinner selections.
