Great lunch we had there in November 2017.sandwiches and fries were great.got ice cream later on which was fine.the eatery takes place next to a gas station/grocery store.it always has been that though the current owners made it better.we will be back. read more

We love it here! I've had coffee and sandwiches and salads - all have been delicious. The decor is adorable, too! It's quaint and quiet. I highly recommend the market deli sandwich and the mozzarella panini. They have been my favorites so far. read more

My husband and I stopped during our morning walk today and had breakfast at the Trough. It was awesome! Scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast and coffee. Everything was delicious! Stopped through on a bike ride and enjoyed the outdoor seating (and the overall indoor arrangement looked great as well). It was like an oasis!!! in such a cool part of town. Clean, open, good feel. Had a salad with fresh garden greens and a soup that even though could have been hotter, both were satisfying. The staff was pleasant and the menu looked ample with lots to choose. I would love to see advertised or printed on the menu that this "neighborhood" eatery purchases from local vendors, offers gluten free options and supports local ranchers. To me, it's important to know where my food comes from not only from my grocers, but indeed when I eat out. I will go back again in hopes the conversation I had with the owner sparked some changes and perhaps next time I will be eating some grass fed, grass finished local beef with that local brew..... which btw is already on the menu. I love this restaurant. Has a specific, homey, feel. The food is served fast. The burger I had (Hickory BBQ) was an excellent tap dancer on my taste buds (very fun) and the fries were baked to perfection. read more

The food is good but don't expect huge portions despite the price. After giving The Trough several tries, our biggest complaint is the service. Consistently, it is incredibly slow, if not confused. This is not a place to get a quick meal or ticket. We once waited a full hour for a late breakfast in an almost empty room. Turns out there was a "glitch" in the ticket not being sent to the kitchen but shouldn't our waitress have investigated when her later tables were getting food before us? Very frustrating when, not once but twice, she brought those tables' plates to our table only to have them whisked away after a tantalizing whiff of bacon. I want to love this place since it's Target Range walkable and the happy hour in the summer can't be beat but it is it's own worst enemy. read more

This was my first ever trip to the Trough, which was highly recommended by my friends. I ordered a small salad with chicken. Chicken costs $1.50 extra. My friend ordered a large salad with chicken. We get our salads to go, as we were on our way to Idaho. I didn't realize until we were already on the road that they didn't put any chicken on my salad. My friend did get her chicken, and it was about 2-3 pieces. Huge rip-off. And it wasn't even busy or anything. They just didn't do it right. Two stars because the salad was OK, if way too expensive for what it was. I probably won't go here again. read more

This was our first trip to The Trough and I have to say that I was very disappointed with our service. When we arrived there was no greeting from any of the employees, and there were plenty that could have said hello. We found a seat and the waitress came up with menus quickly and took our drink orders. My husband and I both ordered a beer, although they were different kinds. The waitress immediately went and poured our beer after taking our order and brought my husband the wrong kind, after reminding her that he ordered a different kind she stood there, clearly waiting for us to say we would take the beer anyway. So my husband did say he would just take that one for now, expecting that we would at least not get charged full price...which we did anyway. The waitress then brought us complimentary bread and after 5 minutes came back and grabbed it when we were not even halfway finished with it. We got our entrees with no glitches. I wanted to order ice cream after dinner so I told the waitress that I was going to have some. I tried ordering a flavor, they were out; tried again, also out of it. The waitress should've informed me that they were not available when I told her I would be ordering ice cream. Overall, the service was very poor! The food was pretty good but not great and we probably will not go back for a long time, if at all. read more

Impeccable service and lovely atmosphere! The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. They ran out of mashed potatoes, but apologized in advanced offered substitutes. They then surprised the entire table with complementary ice cream. Well done! read more

Pretty good food, and in a part of town that really needs more places to eat. Pleasant service, very nice comfortable setting. Open cafe type, but with a another raised level with soft seating and a fireplace. Still, prices seem a bit high for servings and quality. Better than Ok, but not GREAT. I was bicycling and stopped in for a quick sandwich and latte. No one noticed me outside at a table, so I ordered at the counter "to go". The cashier was really snotty! But I got my food and ate outside at one of their tables. Still no server came by, which was okay. Food was a bit over-priced, but tasted good. Lunchtime is very busy there, and my suggestion would be to not have "seated" service for lunch (only dinner), and let folks get on their way. read more
