The food and overall feel to the restaurant was really nice, and unique. It would be better if the service was a little bit faster.

Warm and friendly with a deliciously creative (yet small) menu. Both the Salmon Benny and the Breakfast Tart met our expectations and would bring us back. Almost worth the border crossing by itself. My only complaint is that prices are about 20% more than what you want to pay and menu selection is understandably limited, but this won't hold us back. if you ever find yourself in windsor. and your morning is turning into lunch. i suggest you pay the ladies at the twisted apron a visit. they will deliver. in this little hotspot. i had pancakes and side poached eggs with crispy bacon. coffee is solid. but i think next time i would check out their big old chalk board. i saw something egg thing with home made biscuit that, in hind sight probably might have been more interesting. although it seems every plate is made with love. weird to think 5km on the other side of the bridge a house is on fire and your breakfast might be a bottle of malt liquor and a scratch and win card. read more

My daughter and I had the best brunch here. I had the eggs Benedict dish with smoked salmon on top on a waffle and it was so amazing!! Our waiter, who we have had the last time we came was wonderful. He was very helpful, funny, fast and friendly. We would recommend The Twisted Apron as a favorite place to eat for both breakfast and lunch. The place is casual, updated and very clean. Atmosphere was ok - except I was sitting in the middle of a server's path. Which every time they passed I would get a slight bump. We sat for about 15 minutes before anyone gave us a menu or water. Waitress was nice but it didn't make up for the SUPER SLOW service. When the food finally came out it was average. After we ate it took about 25 minutes to get the bill. The nice waitress disappeared, so I asked the bar tender for the bill who explained I had to find my waitress. But where? Finally she came back to the table and we got the bill paid and left. I even left a 15% tip. and I'm not sure why. If management is reading this review here is some advice. never leave customer's waiting for their bill. almost everything else can be made up for, but when you start wasting people's time, that's when bad reviews get written. good service trumps average food. read more

Decided to drop in for a first time visit and check out the breakfast. As my wife and I saw it on an episode of "you gotta eat here" which focused on Eggs Benedict. I was first bummed out that the mac and cheese eggs benny wasn't on the menu although it was featured on the show (but menu's change). So I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benny and my wife ordered Traditional Eggs Benny with a side of potatoe's. This is a breakfast order we have eaten many different time in several cities. The hollandaise sauce lacked seasoning and didn't seem fresh or homemade (kinda like store bought if there is such a thing), and there wasn't enough of it. Also the poached eggs were a little on the overdone side and not overly oozy. Also the waitress forgot to or did not bother to mention any special to us . Since it was our first visit we were not aware that they were written on a chalk board and I missed out on ordering the chef special omlette which probably would have been better than our mediocre at best Eggs Benedict. Overall the atmosphere and decor is nice, clean and kind of modern meets rustic look which I was into. But we both left super disappointed and have no future plan to return. read more

This place is phenomenal with its good, service and atmosphere. The quality of the food is great, they don't skimp out on portions or the grade of ingredients which was noticed to be of a really good quality. What makes this place unique is the quality of service, which is really high but what distinguishes this place apart from many other places is that good service is naturally provided by the staff rather than a scripted outline on how to treat your customer - friendliness oozes out of the staff. The only thing is that due to the twisted apron's popularity, you need to be prepared to wait a bit for seating unless if you call to potentially reserve a spot. Went for Sunday brunch on a cold January morning. I had brioche French toast and fresh maple syrup. It was light and lovely. Hubby had fennel and cheese curd omelet. Also light and tasty. Fresh home made strawberry jam and the best potatoes on the side. Service was quick and attentive. read more

Dropped my wife and father-in-law (he's 87 years old) off near the door because it was lightly raining while I go park the car. I come in the door 5 minutes later to find them waiting in the bar area at the entrance. This is the waiting area for when the restaurant is busy (since they don't take reservations). They are the only ones in the bar area and the restaurant is about 60% full (it's a Thursday night). I ask them why they are there and my wife says they couldn't be seated because the entire party wasn't there yet. She says my husband is parking. "Sorry, that's our policy". I get the policy. Can't seat an 87 year old man on a quiet Thursday night? It's scary when policy can't be overtaken by common sense. Food was very good. read more

Don't know what happened to this place but the quality of their food has really gone downhill. Went for lunch today and had the traditional eggs benedict. The poached eggs were overcooked to the point where the yolk was almost like a hard boiled egg. The egg whites tasted like vinegar (from the poaching I assume) and were rubbery. There was not nearly enough hollandaise sauce on the eggs and the home fries were very cold and soggy. Overall the whole meal was cold, bland and just plain awful. I will not return and will head to a place like Lumberjack or Squirrel Cage instead. read more

Such a charming restaurant!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the food!! It is always fantastic!! Last time we were there we were part of a group of 9 in which I think the server was struggling with. We didnt really care because we were having such a great time together. Then we smelled the 'smell'... I thought the guy next to me was stinky....wasnt him...we all started looking around and couldnt find the smell...finally we figured out where the smell was coming from...the napkins. Great place to eat in classic Walkerville. Rustic decor, old wood floors, and exposed brick. Food is locally sourced, fresh, and high quality. Meal today consisted of a "Twisted Burger", and "Canadian Burger". Beef was a little tough and dry, but side salads and coleslaw were fantastic! Many beverages are bottled, I don't imagine refills would be free. Good selection of local craft beers. read more

Had lunch here because they have a good reputation for handling gluten allergies. They did fine, I think...I'll know tomorrow. They seemed knowledgeable but not specifically set up to isolate potential threats. No dedicated fryer, and they run all bread and buns through the same toaster, so if they toast your gluten free bread you can rest assured it isn't gluten free anymore. I can work with all that. The reason for my average rating is that the food was average. I had their twisted burger and beet salad. The salad was really good but the $15 signature burger was oh so pedestrian. I also can't help but to feel a little skinned because I have a food allergy. The extra $1.50 for a gluten free bun sucks, buy what really hurt was that the complimentary sides weren't safe and the only attractive option in the menu was a salad upgrade for another $4. read more

This used to be my favourite restaurant, but after my last couple visits I had to rewrite my review. They have severely decreased the size of their portions, their prices have gone up and are now way too much for what you get. They used to have the best wait staff, but now many of them are rude. And, the straw that broke the camel's back, they now have a "rule" that they will not seat your party until everyone is there. We went tonight and there was one table occupied and they still refused to seat us until our friend showed up. We just left. Twisted Apron has gotten way to big for their britches. My husband and I were very disappointed with the meal. I ordered a salad that unfortunately had a piece of plastic in it. I did get a new one. My husband ordered the Salisbury steak special but what he got was a rare steak over mashed potatoes. We told the server that this wasn't a real Salisbury steak and she said she knew it wasn't when we ordered. She never asked how he wanted the steak cooked. We weren't charged for the salad or steak but management should inform their servers exactly what the specials are and how they're prepared. Probably won't go back. We expected a better menu. I originally wanted to get their breakfast Poutine, however i am vegetarian so I can not eat the gravy. I asked if they served mushroom gravy but they do not. I am from Detroit, Michigan, USA and commuted to this restaurant from Detroit. Every restaurant in Detroit that serves Poutine, ALWAYS offers a vegetarian option gravy! ALWAYS! But every time I go to a restaurant that serves Poutine in Windsor, they NEVER offer a vegetarian option. My friends from Toronto have told me that Toronto restaurants always serve a veggie option Poutine as well. I'm not quite sure why Windsor is slow to catch up to their customer's growing needs. read more

This place is so good!! I came here by myself one day to read my book and the service I got was amazing. I had the chicken salad sandwich with a coffee. The chicken salad blew my mind, it was so delicious! On a second visit I had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, and I guess my standards were set pretty high by the chicken salad because I thought the eggs benedict was a little bit disappointing. Came here for a semi fancy dinner with my boyfriend and his co-workers. I read a lot about this place online and a hairdresser also recommended it to me, so figured i would try it! It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was half full, so we were comfortably seated. The atmosphere is nice and they display their own restaurant's made jams and pickles for sale, which is a nice personal touch. Kind of instills confidence in the place, since they are confident enough to sell their own condiments and sauces! Boy, were we not disappointed! The meals we had were delicious! I ordered the fish tacos appetizer and my boyfriend had the parmesan truffle fries and the chicken salad. His friends had the cheese platter (all for himself and he couldn't finish it!) and fish and chips. Needless to say, we were so happy that we ordered dessert, and we don't usually, but the food was so good that we just had to try the salted caramel pudding and toffee cheesecake. The pudding was heavenly, and my bf loved the cheesecake, although it was the baked kind so it was too heavy for me. I am pretty confident that everything on their menu is delicious in that home-cooked way. Let me start by saying this review isn't about the food (as it never arrived). I've been here before and the service and food were both great. This time however myself and two others arrived at 1230 on a Friday afternoon. We were seated at 1245 and ordered immediately. The order was two orders of pierogis, deep fried pickles and a sandwich. Half hour later the pickles had not even come out yet and my brother had to be somewhere at 2 o'clock. I spoke to the manager and she took care of our bill and said she'd rush the food out. Another 10 minutes goes by and it still was not out. My brother had to leave for work without even eating anything. A full hour later out food finally came. We were told that there were new cooks working however I don't believe that to be true. And if that is so then why would they be scheduled at lunch on a Friday. This was extremely disappointing as I was hyping this place up to my family and on top of that it was my birthday. Although the situation was handled professionally and I've enjoyed this place in the past I'm sad to say this will be the last time I visit this establishment. read more
