First time here and the customer service was so accommodating taking their time to explain the sides and options m. we are so happy with the grinder for 2 that we ordered. food is so comforting. I love the outdoor seating area and the pasta salad is where it is at! Definitely my favorite side I tried.

The owner here is really sweet. Found this gem tucked away in the heart of downtown just around the corner from Mission Inn. I ordered their roast beef dip and got their soup of the day. The sandwich was very delicious. The bread was nice and warm and the roast beef to bread ratio was awesome. They're a juice sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. That chicken curry soup was amazing. Definitely recommend. It definitely games vintage vibes in the area and there are Christmas lights all over the trees. I'm sure this place is busy and beautiful at night due to the mission Inn and people coming from all over to see the lights.

Great sandwich spot in the center of Downtown! Came here for a Saturday lunch and tried the half corned beef/pastrami along with a French dip. The corned beef/pastrami was solid but the highlight was definitely the French dip. It really impressed me and had amazing flavors. The clam chowder side was really tasty as well. Service was good but the food did take about 15-20 minutes to come out. Overall it's a good lunch spot and the outdoor patio seating overlooking Main Street was really nice. A little bit pricey as the meal cost $40 for two, but the food was great!

There's nothing better than a delicious deli sandwich! The Upper Crust seems to be a Riverside staple. As I was walking by, I heard someone talking about it being a sort of local institution. Then, when I walked in, I love that I was in line behind a regular who clearly came here frequently. I get why. The food is good but the staff is amazing! I was greeted by the loveliest woman. While trying to choose between sides, she told me she'd give me a little of both to try because they were both homemade and she wanted me to try! I had a half chicken sandwich, the tomato flora tine soup and pasta and potato salad. Everything was so good!

Friendly and welcoming counter service at this casual eatery. We ordered the French dip and a ham and cheese sandwich. Each came with a side of pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, carrots sticks, coleslaw or fresh fruit. Soup costs an extra buck. We had the Thai noodle soup and it was delicious! The whole sandwiches are only $1 more than a half of a sandwich. So you may as well get a full one! They offer a wide variety of meats and cheeses. There are a few booths inside - but mostly patio seating in front or in a courtyard. A great find for lunch.

Today, I landed myself in Ontario, California. While staying at the Mission Inn, I was walking around checking out the plethora of restaurants in the area looking for lunch. I came across a simple sandwich shop, Upper Crust Sandwich Shoppe! Upon walking in, you notice there is very little inside seating but plenty outside. Very tight fit. It resembles the sandwich shops I run into when I frequent NYC and Boston. I thought the very friendly owner was from there but he's not lol! The menu has plenty of soups like chicken and rice, clam chowder, and chili. I got the chili. I went with his recommendation... chicken salad sandwich with squaw bread (dark/sweet/wheat bread). The food was absolutely delicious!!!! The sweet bread with the fantastic chicken salad is a grand slam! The chili is watery compared to what I like, but the flavor is perfect!!! Personal preference I cannot ding them for. All this was very reasonably priced as well. If you are in the area, Upper Crust is absolutely worth dropping in!

Was passing through Riverside and decided to stop by the upper crust to grab some lunch. We were greeted by the owner (didn't catch her name) who gave us the full spiel on her restaurant, and she was just the sweetest lady!!!!! She told us she's been open for over 20 years, which is incredible. We got a pastrami and roast beef sandwich on their homemade french roll and wow was it a good sandwich. It was so moist and so flavorful! We also tried their pasta and potato salad as our sides, and they were equally as impressive. Will absolutely be stopping by next time we're in town to try their chili!!!

Went today and got a whole sandwich plus a soup. The soup of the day was clam chowder which honestly was delicious. The sandwich was good but tbh the soup would be my reason for return. The gentleman working the counter was great and had a super great attitude and whole to store was homey but the outside seating made up for all of it.

amazing service and amazing food. have been meaning to try this local, family-owned business for a while and glad i did. the owner was very sweet and helpful. they answered all our questions and made recommendations. as an extra plus they gave us some of their butternut squash soup (i had a hard time picking between the two). it was the perfect way to end the meal. it felt like a hug in a cup. the hawaiian was good the cheese and ham/turkey taste high quality we just though it could be elevated with having the pineapple be grilled/warmed up and/or if there was more in each bite ambiance was good. it was clean and quiet. very comfortable. a lot of seating options to pick from so that was a plus. good conversations too. overall, we had an awesome experience . they are very kind here! will definitely be back to try more things like that selection of root beer, yum.

I've been visiting The Upper Crust for years, and I've never been disappointed. Although I live in Sacramento, I frequently travel to Riverside for work, and whenever I'm here, the egg salad sandwich from The Upper Crust is an absolute must. If you love egg salad, trust me, this will be one of the best you've ever had. My recommendation is to get it on a roll with cheddar cheese--perfection! The service is consistently excellent. The staff is incredibly friendly, and you can tell they truly value customer service. Once they learn your name, they'll use it every time you visit, which adds a nice personal touch. The restaurant itself is cozy, but they have a lovely outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal while people-watching.

The inside itself is tight you may be the lucky one to snag a seat if not, there's cute patio seating available among this pocket of shops. A great stop to take in the downtown vibes also a front row seat for the Saturday farmers market. Reasonable for the downtown area, fresh baked bread served with their soup and sandwiches, salads and seasonal fruits. Great service and pleasant visit. Sidewalk metered parking available but on Saturdays the street is closed off for farmers market. Parking available in surrounding areas with a short walk.

Absolute best sandwiches and customer service in downtown Riverside. Nope! It's not up for debate. This is my second time and the sandwiches are amazing. The ingredients are always fresh and crisp. So the service is good, the sandwiches are good I ordered a chicken sandwich and a veggie sandwich with the sides. But I also got a chicken Cesar salad and that was horrible!! They took forever to give me the salad and the chicken was cold and not good the the salad had not been washed and as I was about to take the second bite thank goodness I saw what the salad had like these little black eggs. I was so grossed out and felt sick. I would suggest to keep with the sandwiches but that's about it be careful with the the veggies especially the the lettuce so sad because because the service was good and the sandwiches were also but why not be more clean when it comes to washing your produces. read more

Wonderful sandwich shop in the heart of downtown Riverside. The food is always fresh and tastes homemade, and the staff is warm and welcoming. When the day is beautiful I like to eat out on their patio. My go-to is a veggie on sourdough with pasta salad. Trust me get the pasta salad. My husband enjoys the Italian or pastrami on a French roll with fresh fruit or chips. Nearly the worst BLTA I have ever had. The first three ingredients were lettuce, lettuce and lettuce, and not the green stuff. It was the greenish white part of ice berg. $14 and I got 2 slices of bacon. I am not exaggerating when I say nothing else was noticeable because of the horrendous amount of lettuce. Pure waste of money when expecting a "sandwich shop" to serve a good sandwich. They need to improve! read more

OH MY GAWSH !! I have been craving a really good sandwich, you know, the kind someone else makes for you. I have finally found it. This place WILL NOT disappoint you. I ordered the listed special, chicken salad with tomato bisque soup. The owner took my order and literally treated me like family. She recommended it "the way she likes it "(minus the mustard for me). Can I just say WOW! What the heck is in this sandwich? Heaven, that's what's in there. This sandwich is moist and absolutely one of the best chicken salads I've ever had. The bisque tomato soup isn't one I would've normally ordered, especially in the summer but I am so glad I did. She recommended it and said it was full of flavor. It absolutely is! ! It is delicious and did I mention she makes her own croutons ? I can't wait to order this soup for my family this fall. This shop owner has truly been showered by the flavor angels. This is my now go to sandwich place and I will be returning here often. read more

Liars. Advertise honey baked ham but it is the cheapest quality processed ham. With all the recalls of deli meat, I didn't eat not eat it. Potato salad looked like seasoning salt had spilled all over it. Inedible. The most half a**ed lunch I can remember. Never ordering from them again. read more

Had a tuna salad croissant sandwich from Upper crust today during my pit stop. I was greeted such an uplifting smile and conversation, for a second it felt like the quarantine never happened. It was quick for me to develop a liking for this charming little sandwich shop. What got me even more was the fun collection of vintage root beer for you to purchases Back to the sandwich... it was wonderful. Good flavor, good croissant, great presentation. (Just look at the fruit arrangement on my plate! It's so intentional) I am convinced that one important ingredients of this shop here is TLC. Anyway, I had such a wholesome experience here. First time here and definitely worth the visit! The staff is extremely friendly and personable as well as helpful in exploring the menu. I went with a turkey sandwich on squaw bread with potato salad. My friend chose the special, which was an egg salad and salad. Nonetheless, we both devoured our sandwiches and sides. Cost wise, it came out to $21, which is $10-$11 a person more or less. This is average for a downtown restaurant, however, Simple Simons can cost you up to $14-$16 a person. Highly recommend visiting this place and trying it if you're in the area. I went for lunchtime and it wasn't too busy, but it was extremely warm outside. There is only a few spots inside to sit, but there is shady seating on the patio. read more

This is a must-stop place if you're in the area! I tried the chicken salad with the Mac and potato salad sides and it was all phenomenal. Good size sandwich too, portions are perfect. Looking to try more places downtown Riverside, we decided to try Upper Crust Sandwich Shoppe. First impression is that it is a nice part of downtown near the Mission Inn. Seating is primarily outside which is nice when it is sunny outside. In addition to the menu options you can also create your own sandwich item with an assortment of different breads. Each sandwich comes with your choice of one side item. I took a for me to decide what to get. I heard that the Pastrami is one of the most popular items. I wanted to try something a little bit different, I decided to get the BBQ beef on twist bread. The sandwich was alright, I would probably opt for something different like the Pastrami or Corn Beef next time. For my side I got squash soup which was good. My wife got a turkey croissant sandwich, this sandwich was better. I liked the buttery taste of the croissant was the highlight. My wife got potato salad which was really good, it was the best version of potato salad I've tasted, yes I recommend that as a side choice. Overall Upper Crust is a great place to try out if you're looking to try a traditional deli in a unique setting. read more

We were sat right next to where they made the tortillas and can see them being made since they had glass windows around it. However, there was one gentleman that was making tortillas who was on his cell phone texting or whatever CONSTANTLY at the same time while doing this. He had a glove on one hand and no glove on the other, and was touching the tortilla dough.....We all know how dirty a cell phone is! And what made it worse is at one point he itched the inside of his nose with his finger, and didn't even wash his hands or have gloves on after that. Definitely made my stomach turn and what caused me to go and write this review. I suggest a camera be placed at the tortilla station, add the notes about bacon in the beans and chicken in the rice, and add bell peppers to the fajitas. Also, maybe give the option of meatless beans and rice for the non-meat eaters

I really don't know what some of these people are complaining about...I go here almost every day and the food is spectacular. Everything I eat is fresh and the only time I have any sort of wait for my food is if they're really busy....but that's to be expected. If Eileen was really waiting 50 minutes for her food to arrive then she should've left and not stayed there just to have something to complain about and if ever there is something worth complaining about, the owners go above and beyond to correct it. While I am there, I am constantly hearing people rave about how delicious their food is. Don't get me started on the pumpkin cookies....I have ordered them for many occasions...they are to die for. They are open 7 days a week...Mon - Sat from 10 - 5 and Sun from 11 - 4. Also, if you're in a hurry you can call in your order and they'll have it ready for you. read more

Wow! I can not say enough good things about this place! First the sandwiches are so tasty. My fav is ham on white with tons of mayo and lettuce. I also like the Hawaiian with cream cheese and pineapple. The brownies are out-of-this-world. I can not go in a nd not get one they are huge, chewy and chocolatey. The place has a feel of having been there for a long time with large wood booths or separators. I ordered the grilled pastrami and Swiss sandwich and got it with their potato salad. The pastrami was griddled and has an old school flavor and style with some nice crunch from the sourdough. A great sandwich overall! Parking in the neighborhood wasn't too hard to find along the street and even if you need to park a block or two away, the neighborhood is nice to walk through.

The sandwich was absolutely worth it--I would recommend it 100%! It had the perfect kick from the sriracha aioli, a generous amount of tuna, and the pickled onions added so much flavor. Everything came together perfectly. We also ordered the Basil Pomodoro after one of the staff members recommended it, mentioning that it's one of their most popular items. They definitely didn't steer us wrong! It was incredible, and honestly, I'd order it over and over again. The creamy stracciatella cheese (a lighter, creamier version of burrata) paired perfectly with the sundried tomatoes and basil. If we hadn't already ordered the California Melt, we probably would have gotten a second Basil Pomodoro because it was that good. For drinks, we tried the Iced Strawberry Matcha, which came with strawberry purée at the bottom and strawberry cold foam on top. I'd easily give it a 9/10--it was refreshing and delicious. We also had a regular coffee, and that was excellent as well. The staff were amazing from start to finish. We came in really early. The OPEN sign is not even on yet. I only addressed this so that they can make it presentable for everyone who wants to come back as their customers. Bathrooms are one of the reflections on how clean and how well the shop is kept. I hope when I get back, I can change my rating for them.
