My husky puppy turns 1 tomorrow! We had to get some treats for his big day! Unfortunately they were out of stock of the birthday cakes which really was a bummer because that's the whole reason we came. But we ended up getting another treat that said happy birthday on it. Stumbled into this place while visiting Deep Ellum with my sister. I thought it would be fun to buy her dog a special treat (aunt points and all that). I was surprised when we made our way through the store to find they had a substantial selection of cat toys and treats as well... perfect as a peace offering once we got home to relieve our cat-sitting friend! As a bonus, they carry a great selection of goodies from small businesses! Just had a dog food emergency and i was too far from my typical petco/petsmart location so i decided to spend a little more and go to this dog boutique a few doors from my office and i was shocked at how helpful they were. This is one of my favorite pet shops I've ever been to! We got to meet one of the owners when we stopped in over Memorial Day weekend and she was extremely friendly and helpful. It was clear that she knew a lot about all of the products she stocked and was able to make great recommendations. I love supporting local businesses and spoiling my dog, but usually prices are very high in these type of stores - however, I definitely thought all of the prices were extremely reasonable for this business! They had a great selection of cat treats, toys, accessories, and food as well! I waited a couple of days to write the review so that I could use all the items I got, and the leashes she helped me pick out have been wonderful, the treats were yummy (or at least thats what I gathered from all the tail wagging) and didn't upset my dogs' stomaches, and the toys are great quality (since they are still in one piece after 48 hours with my dogs). Overall, I would say if I was a local, this would be my main shop since the owner was kind & knowledgeable and the prices are fair! read more

Finally had a chance to go into this store, and is my new store. I used to have to go between Green Pet and the Pet Supermarket to get what we needed and order toys in Amazon because they are ridiculously priced everywhere else. Upper Paw actually carries all the different pet food brands we use and the toys are not overpriced. They had cute hand made dog cookies, lots of treats. I cannot say enough good things. The store was clean and the lady working was so nice. She let us try some traction socks on our dog before buying them. We got a giant bag of dental treats (wheat free!), an adorable handmade hair bow, three cute handmade cookies, three new toys, traction socks, and a new hair brush for $80. I had to stop looking because they just had too much stuff I loved. I can't wait to go back and I will be telling people about this store. read more

Cute pet shop in Deep Ellum. We stopped here on vacation to pick up some treats for our dog. The owner was working the front counter and was very nice. Prices are very reasonable - probably the best I've seen for a boutique. You wouldn't be able to tell from the outside but it's actually quite a large store. They have a lot of cute homemade cookies for the dogs. They also had some without icing which was nice because we are traveling and it's hotter than Satan. They have a public bathroom which was awesome because we'd been walking around for a few hours at this point. read more

This place looks really small from the outside, but it is actually pretty big! It had a lot of cute things for dogs and cats (toys, cookies, leashes, bows/bow ties). They had a refrigerated food section, cards, a Dallas sports team section, a brain stimulating toy section, and even a stroller/carrier section. Lots of good stuff in there. One of my favorite pet stores! The owner is super sweet and welcoming. They have cute little bow ties and ties for your pup which are adorable and super cute little dresses, but I come here for the treats! They even have birthday puppy cakes, which is good to know if you're like me and love spoiling your dogs! They even have little birthday hats. The Upper Paw is such a great little shop. Getting there is easy. I'm very close to Deep Ellum, yet far enough I usually drive. Parking is easy especially if you're familiar with the neighborhood. The store is aesthetically pleasing too I came in shopping for a dog I anticipated on adopting. Got the basics: food, bowls, collar, treats Turned out he got adopted by another guy, so I got a puppy instead. I exchanged a few items and they were so so helpful. That weekend, I brought the pup by and we got some toys. Everyone loved on her and they gave her a couple of treats. Such a better experience than the big box stores (I do like petco!) Selection of items is great. They only stock the better brands of food, which worked out for me. They have a lot of your normal items, but they step it up a notch and have the best of the best. For example, my Petoji collar and leash are AWESOME! (Made local too!) And lastly, prices! Like I said, I do like petco, but almost everything I can get here- and it's closer. The prices are very very similar if not the same. My food costs the same here and at petco. I'm willing to pay a few cents to a few dollars more to support a local shop with great people/service. Send them a quick Facebook message or give them a call if you want to know if they have a certain item. One of my favorite places here and I always find a reason to pop in! If you want, make an afternoon out of it because Deep Ellum is a rad neighbourhood. read more

Doggie heaven for those with high maintenance pups. My puppy eats a grain-free diet. We use the Victor brand. In the suburb-leaning-toward-rural areas, you can only get this brand in certain feed stores. It is a pilgrimage to get her kibble, for serious. Imagine my surprise when a small local boutique carries it not 5 minutes from my new home! Suffice it to say that I am a regular. They also have canned foods at prices that pretty much match PetSmart. We actually found a better selection here. They have boutique cookies that they offer for free when you check in. There are leashes, toys, water bowls, and other accoutrements inside. Oh yeah, they have cat stuff too - blagh. read more

LOOKS: From the outside The Upper Paw looks like a small storefront. However, once you open the door you immediately are welcomed into a large pet store that is laid out quite nicely. INVENTORY: Definitely has an impressive selection of dog foods along with leashes, toys, treats. I was pleasantly surprised at how much inventory was in this store. I've been inside Downtown Pawz and liked it but was more impressed with the stock at The Upper Paw. Typically I'll drive over to Mockingbird and get my dog's food from Pet Supplies Plus but now there's no need to go the distance as this store really does have it all. OVERALL: Very excited that this business has opened and would encourage other downtown and Deep Ellum residents to stop by with their dog to check it out. You'll definitely be pleased! read more

I came in from out of town hoping to buy a backpack to carry my dog in. The owner of the shop was SO kind and accommodating and let my dog and I try on several backpacks and bags. In the end, I was not able to find one that fit my dog, but she completely understood and gave me a recommendation for one. In my opinion, this is hands down the best pet store in the DFW area. As a resident of Deep Ellum, I was tired of making the trek to Bishop Arts or Preston Center/Highland Park Village to shop for healthy, "green" pet products, so I was thrilled when The Upper Paw opened so close to my home. Not only do they have a fantastic selection of safe toys, quality dog food, and treats, but they also have supplements and treatments that I haven't seen anywhere else in the area. The husband and wife that own this store are not only incredibly kind, caring people, but they are also extremely knowledgeable about their products and how they may be used to satisfy your pet's unique needs. My pups had been having stomach issues for months, and they recommended a dog food containing probiotics that has completely cured their condition, as well as other supplements/treatments that have helped tremendously and aren't carried anywhere else in the area. If you want the best for your pet, and to support an extremely deserving local store, you're only option is The Upper Paw. I'm so glad you're in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. I always have too much fun investigating the new cat toys and towers and darling clothing that my cat hates. My cat decided that he didn't care for his dry food if it was delivered from Amazon and every other place I was able to find Taste of the Wild was too much of a drive for me. Discovered this place and while the selection is awesome, the owners are top notch! When I was trying to give my tempestuous cat more food selection, they were there to guide me with samples and suggestions, which my cat actually loved. When I was perplexed that a cat couldn't enjoy cat nip, they provided the perfect remedy: Silver Vine. My cat's into the finer things, you see, and his getting older and fussy makes his old toys boring. Not with silver vine. Everything is awesome with silver vine. Finally, my sister's dog had recently become quite sick and was to be put down the next day. I went in hoping to send him into The Great Beyond with an extra-special treat or two. After explaining the situation, the owner immediately knew what to do and sympathized for the loss of a pet. She handed me some CBD treats and that was that. I bought my puppy dog the "egg on toast" cookie and she ate it all up immediately! That's really saying something because she's generally so picky about treats and can take weeks just to eat one cookie. Definitely will be getting some more of these snacks. Wish they had food themed soft dog toys though. read more
