Lost after Label Created at UPS Manhattan Beach Store
    Ozan K.

I know there are a lot of positive comments below around the customer service when things have gone well at this store, but I believe, as an operator myself, this experience is important because when things go wrong, the true integrity of a business shines. I was in Mexico on vacation when my brother tragically died. As a result, I had to fly immediately to Myrtle Beach and drive to Cincinnati for the funeral and had my neighbor in Manhattan Beach ship an expensive suit, shoes, belts tie, shirts, medicine and contacts urgently (~$5k of value) from my apartment. He took the package to this UPS store in Manhattan Beach on Friday, May 20th and paid $155 for 2-day air given the urgency even though this rate is crazy for a 10lb package (see Shipment Receipt). By Sunday, May 22nd the status on the package was still "Label Created", which was weird ("see other attachment"). On Monday, May 23rd, my executive assistant ("EA") called the store to inquire the whereabouts and a female employee disclosed that 2 other packages were "lost" on Friday as well at this store! The UPS employee took down her number, and Mike worked with my EA over the course of a week to try to find the package. I totally get that packages can get damaged in transit, but when a package is "lost" and / or "stolen" (and there are 2 other packages with this same outcome) at the UPS Store, you would think Mike would have empathy and live UPS customer values for his store to make this right (while fixing their internal operational deficiency for future customers). On the contrary, he was very resistant to do the right thing for his store's deficiency and communicated that he will only reimburse $100 for their operational deficiency at the store that forced me to not only lose $5k of personal belongings but forced me to buy a new suit in Cincinnati for the funeral. Buyer beware for the service you will get when things go wrong with this UPS store, notably in the context of a terrible situation.

    See you on Friday!!

You can't ask for better customer service. The employees go beyond their typical duties to help you out.

Been coming for 6 years. Mike runs a tight ship...and it trickles down. They always deliver, no pun intended. Solid group and service.

They do UPS and FedEx, but not USPS. Not a problem for my needs. The woman who helped me was just super nice and helpful. I got in and out quickly. Worthy of a shout out. And I hope everyone uses them the next time you need to ship something.

They refuse to own up to their mistakes. I am extremely disappointed in Alberto and The Mailbox. They are changing the facts after the fact. Please do not believe any response they post here. I tried multiple times to get them to do the right thing. Mistakes happen, but it is what a business does when that happens that matters. I needed to get a notarized document by Friday at 3 PM. I was in their office on Wednesday and knew the cutoff was probably around 4 or 5 PM. We looked at 2-day options to make sure it got there before Friday at 3 PM. I decided not to risk it and paid extra to have the package arrive Thursday night by 8 PM, based on the understanding that it would be sent out Wednesday. I have their receipt that says Thursday at 8 PM, not Friday at 8 PM. I was never told it would miss the Wednesday cutoff. If I had known, I would have paid extra for FedEx Overnight Priority to get it there Friday morning or gone to FedEx myself where the cutoff is 5 PM. The package did not arrive on time and caused major issues. When I contacted them, they told me to file a claim with FedEx even though they knew it was dated Thursday and not eligible for a refund. I spent an hour on the phone with FedEx on multiple calls, a total wild goose chase. After I found out the package missed the cutoff, they changed their story and said I had been told about it and that they were doing me a favor trying to make the cutoff. That is not true. If they had said the cutoff might be missed, I would have made different choices including a 5 minute drive to Fedex store to get it there by 5 PM or again, sent it Overnight Priority to get there by Friday by 11:30 AM. I thought I was supporting a local business, but they do not deserve support. I am disappointed they refuse to make this right. They may reply claiming I was told otherwise, but that is not true. If something goes wrong, you will be out of luck. Go to the UPS Store (they are great) or FedEx Office instead. This was my first and last time going there.

Upon entering the store, I was confronted about a previous review I had written. My post had been printed and pinned to the wall behind the counter, and I was identified by two staff members--a woman and a gentleman--as soon as I reached the counter. Shortly thereafter, I was confronted by the manager, Brian. At no point during this interaction was I asked how the business could earn back my trust or improve my experience. Instead, the situation appeared to be predicated on the idea of "getting back at" a customer for leaving feedback. The conduct demonstrated what appeared to be a coordinated effort by staff to single me out rather than address concerns constructively. During the exchange, Brian also yelled "A** H***" in my direction. Regardless of the intent behind the remark, those words should never be spoken to a customer under any circumstance. Given the scene that had been created, I felt it was necessary to disengage from the situation out of concern for my own safety. The fact that employees had coordinated to target me made it clear that the situation had escalated far beyond a normal customer interaction. As I left and reached the door, I realized I had forgotten to give them a receipt for packages received. When I returned briefly, I observed staff laughing and cheering about the incident that had just transpired. The core issue here is the weaponization of a group of employees to target a customer. This behavior is unacceptable, and every customer deserves to know that such conduct occurred. To Brian and the staff present that day: your cheering and sense of triumph--"we got him"--has resulted in the permanent loss of a customer of over 11 years. I will no longer be doing business with this location. I hope you recognize the long-term cost of that decision and reflect on how future customers may be treated.

I needed them to print the shipping label and there is a charge for that (under $3). They will have the email information on a sign closer to the door that people should send things to in order to be printed so that it's ready to go by the time you reach the register. The people that work there have always been super friendly and this time was no different. BONUS: They have a mailbox for real mail if you need it!
