I went in to drop off a package to be returned to Amazon at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016. There was no one in the store and the owner was at the counter. She told me she could not accept the package. She said she had no room for it. Albeit, there were quite a few packages stacked up but there was room. She refused to take the package and said I could leave it outside the store and they would ship it out tomorrow or that I could bring it back tomorrow. Why would I leave it outside the store when it might get stolen? Also, I wanted it to go out today, I was in there way before 5 p.m. Obviously she did not want to take the package, probably because it was free shipping, there was no money in it for her. I imagine if I wanted to send out a package, she probably would have accommodated me and made room in the pile. She was very, very rude and mean about it. I've been in there other times when she was rude but tried to overlook but this was really it. Terrible customer service. I will never go in there again. I drove to another UPS store about a mile away and dropped off the package. They had a large stack, too, but accepted it. I will now be giving them my business. read more

Where to begin... - Prices: $6 for a cardboard box? This place exemplifies the Montclair surcharge (those in the area know what this is). I sent an MP3 player to LA. It cost $8 to send, and the total bill was $15. Is that popcorn made out of platinum? - Service: Grumpy, unskilled. The owner doesn't have a clue what customer service is, and hires the cheapest high school labor possible...then doesn't bother to train them. During our wedding days, we were receiving a lot of lovely gifts in the mail. Along with them came a boatload of popcorn. Trying to do the right thing, I brought bags upon bags of it to this guy rather than throwing it away. His reaction, "Oh, yeah, thanks, just put it over there." After close to 10 trips, giving away what he seems to charge $3,000/lb for, he still has no clue who I am. - Branding: Yeah, right. Have a UPS account number? Pound sand. Take it to the drop box up the street. "Too much liability" for the UPS STORE to handle. Really? The UPS STORE doesn't accept UPS ACCOUNT NUMBERS? So, is it just a mail shop that pays to put the brown shield on the door? Pretty much. Of course, using the drop box up the street means that UPS/this guy is missing out on the wonderfully overpriced packaging "services" that this place offers. Way to drive revenue and increase customer satisfaction! A total shame this is the only place in town. Guess I'll be driving elsewhere just to send packages. read more

Awful. They have 2 spaces across from each other in a small enclosed mall, but today there was only one staff person with literally half a dozen people standing in line. The copy storefront was unoccupied and when I asked the woman in the other space if someone was working there, she replied basically "yes, they'll be right back". Well, they weren't "right back" and when the second woman showed up 10 minutes later she needed to help the first woman handle the waiting crowd that was forming and it would obviously be another 15 minutes at least before I would get my one color copy made. Insane. Why have a business if you aren't going to staff it and the staff you do have move as slow as molasses and keep telling you some version of "no problem" instead of "it will be at least 20 minutes before we can help you." read more

Their customer service is extremely poor and unprofessional. Here is my story: I went to get my Passport photo taken. I also used them to send in my passport documents. My documents arrived safely but unfortunately the picture did not meet the required standards. As a result it was sent back to me. I went back to the store and after I complained the store did reverse the charges on the costs for the photo. I went to another place to get my photo and then went back to UPS to re-ship the documents. I also asked them to compensate me for the additional shipping that i would have to pay. My rationale is that I would not have to pay shipping twice if they did their job and got the photo correct in the first place. They refused. The store supervisor was very rude. I asked to speak with the owner. He was not there. I asked for his number. I was given the general store number and called and left a message and it was never returned. Overall, they are not competent (the passport photo service was done incorrectly) and they are extremely rude and have very little focus on the customer (supervisor was rude and owner did not return my call for resolution). After searching on Yelp for UPS Stores in the area I noticed that this location has the LOWEST rating. I'm not at all surprised. Spend 10 minutes and drive to a UPS Store that actually cares about their customer service. Stay away from this store. read more

I went to the UPS Store on Grand Avenue (across street from Lake Merritt) to ship two items. After waiting for the only girl at the counter to help two men in front of me in line, which seemed like forever...I told her I first had a box to ship UPS ground, and then I also had chosen a design mailer to send a small gift to a foreign country, and asked if they do global priority. She didn't know what I meant, so she asked another girl who was busy eating salad with her coworker, in full view of customers, I may add. Anyway, they told me something like it is $60 to send it, which I said "I can't do, that's crazy". I also told her I wanted to insure it, but they said that they can't do that. I didn't appreciate the tone they took when they told me, and the sales clerk began sort of rolling her eyes at me. I asked how much is it without the insurance, and it was still outrageously high. So I gave up on that one, and then she got around to printing a label for my my UPS Ground box, which had temporarily disapeared, so she blamed ME for it not being in front of me, where it was! I then asked to buy a book of stamps, and paid. After I left the store, I looked at my receipt, and noticed that I was overcharged for the stamps by almost $3.00! WTF? I turned around and went back in to ask why, and another girl told me simply "we charge $11. 50 for stamps". I said firmly that I wasn't told the price, and they should tell people first. This store SUCKS. I got an email telling me my package had arrived at the store but when I went to get it, the very rude clerk could not find it. She barely looked. When I told her the tracking information showed it was delivered she said well maybe the truck driver left it on the truck and it would show up in the afternoon. I was thinking if I ever wanted to jump off a bridge I would come here first to secure that deal. The people that work here should consider jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge - really they are that "lively" and "friendly". I called them and asked for their email address so I could pick up 3 copies of a 1 page document. Jerks charged me a "computer fee" of 5 bucks because (on top of the copy fee) they had to physically look at the computer to print it off. F this place. This is a terrible UPS store and it seeks to gouge customers at every turn. Today I left the store after being given a quote of $43 for UPS Ground Service for a moderately sized package. I went to another UPS store on Piedmont Avenue and it was shipped via the SAME UPS GROUND SERVICE for $34. Besides this gross discrepancy in UPS shipping charges, this store does not give customers free UPS Express Reusable Envelopes - you know, those brown cardboard envelopes for documents and small items. A few weeks ago I went in with a small document that needed to go via UPS Ground and asked for one of these free UPS envelopes. The owner said that he does not offer them *at all* and showed me his soft pack envelope FOR SALE for $3. At another visit late last year I was charged for a few feet of clear packing tape - maybe 24 inches in total. Here's the bottom line: when I'm in there, I get the impression that if I linger too long that they will charge me for the air that I'm breathing. I have now learned my lesson and will never go to this shop ever again, despite living less than two miles away. I rarely take the time to make any consumer complaint such as this review on YELP, but this particular UPS store has given me sufficient motivation. In fact, after completing this YELP review, I will contact UPS with a formal complaint regarding over-charges and their dishonest policy of not stocking free UPS materials such as the Brown UPS Express Reusable Envelope. read more

After reading all the horrible reviews there doesn't seem to be much incentive to warn others to beware but it's only decent to take the time to write. I was shipping 2 carry on size suit cases to the service center. I was told in advance that suite cases do not need to be boxed to be shipped but the owner refused to do this. She insisted on charging around $60 for this unnecessary service. I called UPS and was told that they would pick it up at my office and ship it without a box and without the fee. read more

This place is usually just a necessary evil. You need to ship something, pack something, etc. I can usually live with it. But today, upon returning a brand new item I realized I didn't need, I decided to use the credit to buy stamps. Nope. No can do. You can't buy stamps with store credit. Um, what? I could buy packaging supplies, but not stamps (that already were priced with a premium over the face value). I probably could have fought it, as there is no place in the store or on the receipt that says you can't buy STAMPS with store credit, but not worth it. Avoid this hideous "UPS store" at all cost. If you sneeze in the store they will charge for that, if you borrow a paper clip they will charge a rental fee. They are rude, slow, inflexible and rip off artists. So here's what happened. I ordered a camera lens to rent from a great company. They said that they would send it to the closest UPS Store to me so I wouldn't take a chance missing the UPS delivery to my home (This had to be signed for). The lens arrived to the UPS Store and I saw it arrive via UPS tracking. Before I could get up there a man called me (I could barely understand him, thick accent). He said my box was there and asked when I was going to pick it up. I said within an hour. He said that will be $10 to pick it up, I said WHAT? You must be kidding, I'm not paying to come and get my lens. He said do you want to return the box? I said no, I'm going to get it but I'm not paying $10. He said he'd hold it and told me to ask to talk to the manager when I pick it up. I ran up the hill asked for my lens, and they 100% insisted that I pay $10. I explained to them the rental company guaranteed it was free pickup. Finally I got so tired of fighting it I paid with a credit card. The two ladies kept looking at me and speaking in some foreign language and being SUPER SLOW... and when I asked to talk with the manager they said the manager was not in. And when I asked to speak with Kumar, the man that called me, they said he had left. I said FINE go ahead and charge for this pickup and I'll deal with the rental company or credit card company later and report what happened. The lady finally finished whatever process she had to do for me to get my box, I'm surprised she didn't finger print me... This is no lie, they were so rude and terrible. When I got home (after being held up in the horrid process for at least 40 minutes!) I called the lens rental company and they said that the UPS label clearly shows the contract code. Obviously this lame poor excuse of a business had no idea how to handle that. Well UPS Store if you are reading this, you need to learn to look on the bottom right hand corner of the label that means that the pickup is FREE. Look it up. These people are effing rip off artists, mean, inflexible, and have a serious bad attitude. The only other time I used this store, I dropped off a small UPS Box but learned several days later that it hadn't even left the store!!!! Do yourself a favor, NEVER use this company . These people are not good. I went in to close my mailbox after a few years of renting, as I was not using it. I got notice to renew, and walked in to shut it down. At the time, it was a little over a month after my box had expired. I tried to close the account and get my mail. They refused to give me my old mail, unless I paid $100 (I offered to pay for the month, or even for two months), which means I have to renew for a full three months. I am shocked to discover that they won't release my mail from the last month otherwise. Don't rent here, whatever you do!!! I have been unable to resolve this issue. I had to get a document notarized, and even before it was suggested, I thought of coming here. For 10$ i got my document notarized, with great customer service. While it did take about 10 minutes, it made sense, there's a lot you got to do to make it official. I was also able to make a copy of my document/notarization. I will definitely be back if I ever need to get something notarized and/or make a copy. read more

I called ahead of time to confirm they did fingerprints and was told by a man, yes, but I needed to get there by 5:30 because they close at 6:00. I arrived by 4:50 and after standing in line for about 15 min (being ignored even though I was the only one with papers and not a box) I was asked why I was there. When I said for fingerprints the woman said "we can't do that after 5." I protested but ignorance was pled about who could have told me that. So I said I'd make an appointment for the next day - there are signs saying "Appointments Available" - and the woman asked "what time?" I said 2, she said fine and went back to the customer ahead of me. I asked "are you going to write it down?" and she said no, we don't take appointments. I almost laughed but irritation won. I'm not big on writing reviews, but this UPS Store deserves one from me. I have used them for many years, and through three different businesses I've run. I've used their PO boxes, and pretty much every service they offer, from faxing to notary to shredding to shipping. And while they are often busy and running between their two stores across the hall from one another (not great feng shui), and though they are often dealing with grumpy customers with little patience (me among them), the people working at this UPS store have been nothing but patient and professional. I'm dismayed to see so many less-than-stellar reviews for them, but as someone who has done business with them, and depended upon them, year after year for about 12 years now (even before they were a UPS store), I have rarely been disappointed. read more

These guys will not let you tape up your box in the store! They will not recognize their own prepaid receipts! They will tell you to hurry up, and that they are waiting on you? For what I don't know, I just came in here to mail a package to a client. I looked behind me, no one else was waiting, I am the only one in the store. After a brief exchange the guy at the UPS finally did recognize the receipt as a legit UPS receipt, but wanted to charge me $55 dollars for packaging. I said I would be glad to package it myself, but I guess you can't do it in the store even if you have the receipt and the box. I am now at home looking up the address for another UPS store close to my house. I sure do miss the UPS by my old apartment. There, I could throw on a bit a tape, no problem, for well under $55, actually you can tape it there for free. What a bunch of uptight losers at UPS montclair! read more

I was so worried about shipping an important box of camping gear to a remote region in Idaho. But Frankie and David at this UPS store helped me choose the right box, insurance and shipping speed to meet my needs. They were compassionate and personable and made my visit to this shipping location an enjoyable and successful one. I had been a little glum most of the day, feeling as if I couldn't really accomplish anything. But Frankie & David gave me a much-needed sense of accomplishment, in the form of getting my box mailed to Idaho. I couldn't have done it without them. read more

It is important to support locally owned family business whenever possible and since I live on Mountain Blvd (near Thornhill), this is also a super convenient location. Unfortunately due to multiple past experiences from myself, my family, and my friends, I now drive to a further location for absolutely no other reason than to avoid this store and the folks running this business. The people did not listen to simple requests and avoided helping me ship packages, buy a mail box, use the mailbox, track packages, and worst was that I sent a package to a friend and realized that I put the wrong address on the box-went in and did a re route to the new address the next day way before it was delivered and they said that they could not do it (which as a business owner for thirty five years I know is untrue)-they said to wait and see what happens...well it got returned-they would not ship it nor give it to me unless I paid AGAIN to have it shipped, which I did just to get the GIFT back from hostage status and NEVER have to go back here. If only I can give negative stars, this place has gone downhill over the years and I have been a patron for over 20 years. The ladies at the counter ( shipping side) are downright rude! I witnessed several arguments while waiting in line and every customer interaction the ladies had with clients was rude and I have a very high tolerance so for me to say this, it's pretty bad. I had a simple return to JCPenney, I used to be in their system, not anymore? Years prior, ladies at the counter were able to take package to same address and looked up the physical address but of course, lady at the counter was a no person- no you are not in system and no I can't find the address and no I can't ship your package. I found the address in 3 minutes on my phone. To the owner of the establishment, train your workers, or lose a lot of business! I would rather drive farther than to give you more of my business! read more

Avoid this UPS Store if you can. It's the worst UPS Store I've ever been to. In my short 15 minutes there, I've seen several disappointed customers. This UPS Store extorts you for everything. They charged me $4 to print my return label for an Amazon shipment. They wanted to charge me $7 for an envelope and didn't even provide the shipment service. I don't typically write bad reviews but my experience was just so bad. I called to see if they did livescan fingerprinting and they said yes. I drive up there, wait in line for about 15 mins and then the woman asks what I needed and then tells me the machine is broken, did it like just break? You couldn't tell me that over the phone when I asked? OK maybe it's not my day, let me try again the next day. I called ahead and told them I had been there yesterday for livescan fingerprinting and I asked if the machine was working today because it was down when I went. The woman tells me it works and to come down. I drive up there and the woman acknowledges that I was there for that before and then tells me she has to check if it works... but when I called you told me it did? Anyways, takes them about 20 mins to set it up, I'm waiting there patiently and it looks like it works perfectly fine. The young lady helping was rather rude, she grabbed my hand and treated me like a 5 year old. We tried to get my fingerprints and she didn't look like she knew what she was doing, she finally gave up and just said ITS NOT WORKING, handed me my things and I just left. What a waste of time! I ended up going to this place called A Welcome Live Scan Service in Alameda. They were really sweet and the whole process only took 10 mins. read more

We use this UPS store for both mailing packages as well as receiving our mail and I couldn't be happier using them. They are always friendly and helpful. I know when I leave packages with them to pack and ship, I get the email notification within minutes - the task is done immediately. When I walk in to get the mail each day, frequently they see me coming and pull out all the packages so they are waiting for me on the countertop. I have read other people's reviews and understand there have been difficulties but that has never been my case. I appreciate their help - they have made my job easier. read more

I just had a book de-bound and punched there and the gal who helped me couldn't have been nicer. (Srishti, my receipt says.) She also helped my ship two over-sized packages about a month ago and was very kind and efficient then, as well. She even expertly multi-tasked by assisting another customer with a fax while punching my book. No complaints here. When I called to ask about the book de-binding, I spoke with Frankie, who was also very nice. The many negative comments made me concerned about going here, but both of my experiences have been great. read more

I've shipped to many states, and abroad to Rome without a hitch for the past 3.5 years on a monthly basis. Adding my bad experience to the long list of 1 star reviews for this UPS Store. A package I was shipped was destroyed in transit by UPS. This was not pleasant, but it happens. It was this store's responsibility to handle the damage refund process. They didn't break the package, but they were the shipper of record so had to handle the customer service aspects of processing the refund. The refund took much longer than expected to process. They promised to call me with updates but never did. They informed me that UPS would not refund the entire cost of shipping and could not explain why. I phoned UPS and they told me the exact opposite (that it is up to the store to refund shipping costs and they must explain why they don't refund the full amount). The store told me several other things (e.g., the damaged package would be returned to me) that turned out to be false. Either they're ignorant of how their partner (UPS) actually works, or they withhold information and funds for profit. I've escalated the case directly with UPS and they asked the store's "Concerns" group to contact me several times but they've never in touch. Do yourself a favor and visit a different store! read more

It is my experience that services like Yelp are platforms for disgruntled customers to air their grievances; people who have had a bad experience with an establishment are more motivated to post to Yelp than those who had a good one. This review is motivated by a good experience - the excellent service i received at the UPS store compelled me to share my experience. I needed to ship two paintings; both 7 foot by 12 foot. both framed with glass, and both requiring insurance. The manager of the store helped bring both paintings in from my car, and with the help of his employees constructed in a matter of minutes a custom box for each painting, complete with two kinds of styrofoam materials, right before my eyes. The packages arrived at their location on time and unharmed. The staff of the store exhibited a reassuring level of competence; these paintings are of high sentimental value, and im happy to report that the staff treated them as such. I went into this store to ship a small package today and was so frustrated by the unprofessional and unhelpful attitude of the woman working there that I walked out, unwilling to spend a dime here. After some initial poor communication and a major rate hike compared to the estimate I got on UPS.com, I was still going to ship my parcel. The clerk said they were unable to guarantee delivery by a certain day (understandable- it's the holiday season), but she refused to even speculate about how long it might take and instead kept saying "it might or might not arrive" by a certain day. I asked whether it might be two or three days longer, and what was her opinion based on her experience? But she just kept repeating that line. I asked if I could speak to a manager, and she said there was no manager there but they'd give me a business card. The other employee got a card for me, and I asked for the name of the manager, to which she replied, "We have no manager, only an owner." So I asked for the owner's name, but she said they are not allowed to give it out and I should just email my complaints to the main email address on their card. That sees pretty pointless, since the unhelpful clerk is as likely to check that email address as anyone. Bottom line: It's worth the extra time to drive to FedEx in Rockridge rather than spending money/time at this store. read more
