Saw lots of negative reviews when I went to look up what time they open one day. Worked in customer service lots in my life and know how difficult it can be. Have only had positive experiences on the many occasions I've used this location. Noted that at least one negative review was actually meant for the nearby USPS store not UPS store. There were long lines a couple of times during COVID but that was from people spacing themselves out 6' and line never took more than a couple of minutes. Love this UPS store. Their staff is excellent - all of them are so kind, capable, and professional. I especially wanted to sing the praises of one employee, Mari. I recently had to prevent an already-shipped package from being delivered (due to a sensitive personal situation), and Mari went above and beyond to help me stop the package from arriving. She called me multiple times to keep me informed about the status of her efforts as she was working on the case, and even though there was very little time to get it done before the package was supposed to arrive, she made it happen. She even called to confirm once the package had been received back at the Piedmont Ave store, to ask me how I would like to dispose of it. I really appreciated her kind demeanor, thoughtfulness, persistence, and professionalism. She is an exemplary employee, and I hope she will be recognized for her excellent work. I am still reeling from an unbelievably bad customer experience at this store. I tried to ship two well wrapped packages, and Shitel refused to ship them unless I bought the overpriced packaging supplies that they sell. She was incredibly rude and condescending, and I've noticed from other reviews on Yelp that I am not the only person who she's been rude too. I am going to go off Yelp and report her behavior to UPS Corporate. This place does not deserve to be in business, and I will also notidy neighbors (via Nextdoor and Facebook) about my horrible experience. **Responding to owners' reply below: The response from the owner is incorrect and libelous. There is no UPS policy that this person speaks of -- I know because I checked with UPS. This store simply tries to con you into buying their overpriced supplies to line their pockets at the customers expense. Sad. Also, and here's the mic drop moment: I took the same packages to a different UPS store in the area... and they shipped them without a problem or negative comment (in contrast, the owners at the other location are charming, warm, wonderful people who deserve our business). Warning to future customers: THIS PLACE IS NOT DOG-FRIENDLY. Avoid it if you have a dog. This UPS store just gets worse and worse. Used to be pretty nice, and dog-friendly, but due to a change in ownership (I guess), now I'm not allowed to walk my sweet 15-pound dog into the store, BUT they also don't have ANY place outside (a hook or a bike rack or a small tree even) to tie up a dog on a 6-foot leash. (I can leave my dog at home - but not everybody can - and dog-walks are a prime-motivator for me to shop in the area and not get into a car - and there are certainly other places that offer similar services in the area). Please provide your dog-walking buddies with a place to tie-up their pups if you want to retain their business. read more

Don't come to this store if you are doing something as simple as dropping off your pre labeled packages. They will have you wait in line while other stores would let you just leave the packages if you don't need receipt so you can leave without standing there wasting your time for nothing. On top of that, the female clerk asked me "what is the description of the content" while the package is already pre labeled! I am not asking you to print me and label and calculating the cost, this is why this store is so inefficient. Absolutely terrible experience here. The staff member helping me wore her mask below her nose the entire time. (And yes, I know which specific location I'm posting about, despite the gaslighting question from the owner in response to another reviewer's concerns about poor masking at this same location. Clearly it's a repeat issue.) Their computer was completely broken and unable to print my return label, but they also refused to waive the $5 service fee to print it despite there being no self-printing option available. So yeah, go here if you want to pay $5 for them to print a single black-and-white piece of paper for you. I left without shipping or paying for anything and will never be going here again. When our UPS mailbox term expired we asked to have our mail forwarded on request and prepaid for both the service and the packaging. After 2 successful previous forwards, when I requested that the mail be forwarded a third time via the expected email, it was not done so I followed up with 2 telephone calls and they would not explain why the mail had not been forwarded nor did they forward it at that time. My wife happened to be in town and picked up our mail in person only because of this delay in forwarding and now they are demanding additional money for the in person pickup and any additional pickup, all because they failed to forward our mail (prepaid) on request. It is now a month later and the manager, Shital, will not explain why our mail was not forwarded after multiple requests. She has not refunded our prepaid mailing expenses. She has also refused our request to speak with the owner of the store about this issue. Our next step is to report this breach of contract to the BBB but I would prefer an explanation before proceeding. Your response below does not address the problem. - We prepaid for mail forwarding and it did not happen. - I repeatedly called to find out why it had not been forwarded and each time I was assured that someone would look into it and call me back the next day which never happened. - If our mail had been forwarded then we wouldn't have HAD to pick it up in person as there was no other way to get it. Therefore the actions of the store were absolutely the cause of the problem. - You have yet to reply to my many private, written requests asking you to describe why our mail was not forwarded. Why was it not forwarded? Read the previous sentence again and please respond. read more

This store has the rudest staff I have ever met! I needed to return some equipment to AT&T and they told me to go to the UPS store with my confirmation number to ship it to them for free. I walked in the it was clear that Melinda was annoyed that she had to help me. When she was setting up the shipment she only scanned one piece of equipment. i asked if she could scan the other so I had confirmation that they were shipping everything back. She said the other piece of equipment didn't have a bar code so I pointed out that it did. She snaps back at me and says "I am doing what i am required to do". So I start to explain to her why I am concerned and she interrupts me mid-sentence which she had done a few times earlier during the transaction. Now i am getting annoyed and tell her "stop interrupting me its rude". She says "You started it". At this point the manager who is standing there ask her if she needs help. Completely showing no concern for how she is treating a customer and in fact giving me a dirty look. Who over the age of 5 says "you started it'? I was dumbfounded. While I didn't "start it" I just let it go. WOW this is a horrible staff who has no idea how to treat people. Melina is mean and rude and the store manager is clearly clueless. Don't go here unless you like mean people. I also what to add that I have already called AT&T and given them the tracking number and list of equipment that I turned over to the UPS store. I had a package that I paid $50 to ship that was returned because of a mistake with the label. The response from the store was dismissive. "It was your fault." I took issue with this, because they could have pointed out to me before I shipped it to check not just that the address was correct (I did check the label to make sure the address was correct) but also that all the other minutia on the label was there (which I clearly didn't check, because I didn't realize at the time it was pertinent for the delivery of the package). So now I have to pay another $50 to have this thing shipped. The owner could have easily re-shipped the package and absorbed the cost, which would have been far less than $50. But, who does that sort of thing these days? Apparently not this store. I told them I would complain on Yelp. Their response was, good, do that! Done. read more

The mark-up here is seriously, brazenly ludicrous. Shipped some china to my father, three boxes, and found the price a little high. But it was okay, because everything got there okay. UPS website quoted me $28 for shipping a guitar from Oakland to Phoenix. At the store, it was $76, plus $65 for the box and packing materials. We bought our own box and packing materials for $10, and shipped the same instrument to the same address in Phoenix for $23 via FedEx Ground. Double-you-tee-eff, mother-f-words? This place is the worst for Passport photos!!! Do not under any circumstances trust that the photo you get will be usable in your passport application! I paid nearly $16 for a photo that was rejected - the reason stated was that the photo was over exposed and blown out! What's even more frustrating is at the time of my photo, I asked the associate who was assisting me if the flash was necessary. I was concerned that flash with the fluorescent store lighting would create a washed out look that would not meet standards. I should have rejected the photo because my eyes were red eyes and it was overexposed. The associate checked with his manager who said that everthing was going to be fine!! NOT!!!! Please do not entrust your passport photo with the folks at this particular UPS store. It's not worth the hassle. read more

I had a situation where I had to return a Christmas gift. I got a prepaid label from the seller and I dropped off the package and the label at the UPS store. I even paid $16 to have it packaged as I had thrown away the original shipping box. A week later, the UPS tracking says the box is still at the store. I call the store and ask and they tell me everything has gone out. I call UPS and they tell me the store is an independent franchise, and despite the fact that the UPS website says the box was received at a UPS store, and despite the fact that I have an official UPS drop off receipt in my hand, they are not responsible for it and that I need to take it up with the store. I was furious! Fortunately, the seller was Bloomingdale's. They looked up the tracking for the label they had given me, saw that the record showed I had dropped the package off and immediately refunded my money. Lucky for both me and the UPS store - otherwise I would have dragged them into small claims court faster than you can say "brand erosion"! What a dishonest way to do business! Personally - I'm never using that UPS store again. I've heard good things about the copy/mailbox place up the street so I think I'll take my business there. I had to return an online order today. they use UPS and provided me with a Pre-address/pre-paid return slip. Their instructions were to take it to a local UPS Store for drop off. So I needed ONE piece of tape to seal the Box . I kindly ask for one and the Owner/Operator directs me to the wall of pricey packing tape. I mention I only need to seal the box and he informs me they do not offer tape. Now, while I completely understand my one piece can mean 20 other pieces throughout the day, but this store also benefits from being a UPS store on several other occasions/situation. Oh, well, I learned to use the Packaging Store, next to the Video Room, down the block for future packing/shipping needs, they even have a parking lot! read more

I drove quite a distance to have a passport photo taken here because of the excellent Yelp reviews. The gentleman who works here was very nice but very misinformed about the current Passport regulations. When I asked him if it was alright to smile in my photo he said "Yes." but he did suggest that I mail in my renewal rather than bringing it in person to the Post Office. The next day I talked with a co-worker who told me that she mailed in her renewal with a smiling photo and the government mailed it back to her! I think I'll go to the Auto Club for my passport photos...:-( If a business makes money by taking US Passport photos I expect them to know what the current regulations are! We paid $22 for a letter to be mailed to our home address, and the cashier mistakenly put in the UPS Store address instead of ours. Which is fine, mistakes happen. However, when we called to have the letter sent to us, the manager/person in charged wasn't very responsive (in fact, we had to call back repeatedly) and at the end we just ended up paying for the letter to be sent AGAIN. The letter contained very sensitive documents with private information, and for that reason, we asked that it needed a signature to be delivered. However, we found the letter on the street outside of our house. Completely unacceptable and I won't use UPS with any sensitive mail in the future. read more

It's summer, and I need to travel. I booked my ticket to Barcelona, and oooooops! forgot about that expired passport. I frenziedly printed the application and filled it out. I had to get a passport picture, and a couple places I called closed at 3. WTF!? I needed expedited service. Now! Then I happened to call up this store, and the guy who answered was so friendly and welcoming and told me they were open until 6! Yay! I found rock star parking and was immediately helped. My picture was taken and passport pictures were available in a minute! I asked for the whole application to be sent via overnight express. Then I realized I didn't know what the fees were. I need to get a passport photo and a nationalization picture at the same time. I looked it up and was the closet to my house. I called before I went down there to make sure they do passport pictures, because it was 5pm that time. The guy that picked up was really nice and said it only takes 5mins. I was thinking wow for 13 bucks for 2 pictures and 5 minutes..that sounds great. I went there, we took the picture and he printed it out and that took less than 2 minutes. The bad part is that Piedmont ave is really busy at that time and there are no parking around. Would recommend this place for the speed that I got what I needed to get done in the time I expected. read more

Great! I come here for copies and printing and have never had a problem. I think the review left by Mavourneen L. must be a joke(?) I'm smiling in my passport photo, and I checked travel.state.gov for the requirements for passport photos. Most of their examples of "correct" passport photos show people smiling! They also have a list of reasons why photos are rejected, and none of those include smiling or mailing in a renewal form. People really shouldn't leave one-star reviews based on inaccurate co-worker comments. read more

Hiten (who owns/manages the store) has to be one of the nicest, most genuine individuals I've ever met - and clearly he has trained the rest of his staff to always put customer service first. I can not come into this store for months, and Hiten always remembers me, remembers details from my last visit (didn't you get passport pictures taken? How was your trip? Did your family like the presents you sent them? etc etc). I used to be able to walk to this store from my house, but about a year ago moved to Montclair. There is another UPS store walking distance from my new place - but I still drive down the hill to go to Hiten's store whenever I need to ship, fax or mail something. I'm shocked they have a bunch of negative reviews, as I've been going several times per week for many years since I got a mailbox here. Everyone who works there has always been accommodating and sincere. Sure, they are busy often and you might have to wait a minute or two, but the service is heads above the post office or any FedEx or UPS corporate location. I only wish you could drop off FedEx packages like you could when these stores were Mailboxes ETC, but now they are part of the UPS family. Hiten, Melinda, and staff are kind, attentive, and efficient. I have been a customer for 5 years now, and they have always done their best to take care of whatever I need. I've had them ship, pack, handle my PO box, notarize, and take passport photos. Everything was done with attention to detail and polite efficiency. Shame on other reviewers for blaming them for UPS losing a package after it went out (go review UPS the organization, not this store). My one story about a lost package involves the FedEx drop box across the street at Citibank getting looted over New Years Eve. I'm thankful for this store. read more

I shipped a large box from this location. The sales associate encouraged me to get the insurance. What she didn't say was " If you package it yourself the insurance is useless". My box arrived with all of my things damaged and broken. I heard the UPS driver throwing my package out of the truck on delivery. This was in June. I returned the package to the UPS store in Santa Fe for a claim, they sent it back to Oakland. I have not received my package back. Terrible customer service. read more

I went into this location return a package to Norton they sent me an email with the barcode on it they said the UPS store could scan and print the label for me I asked the woman to do it she said she could only print it if it was in a square and a rectangle I asked her to please try showed her the instructions she said she couldn't speak English and certainly couldn't read English and in fact would not even try... She told me she was the owner of the store she needs to have UPS address her and make her Her store is she has no right to be in business I went to another UPS store about 2 miles away the woman scan the barcode printed the label and I was in and out of there in less than one minute. read more
