I just started my business and lately I been in-need of more shipping services. Ernesto has been very helpful. He helped me enrolled my PO Box mail box, ship my items, and got me the right shipping tools I needed to package my products. He is always so helpful and calm even when is gets extremely busy. This mediocre 2 star review is a staffing issue. I used to pack and ship about 20 packages weekly in my hourly-wage, hustle days and so I'm no newbie to looking up directions and following them to make things quick and easy. Enter Amazon returns. I had to return a book that arrived too late to be of use and I was pleasantly surprised that I could just bring the book to the drop off location, scan a code, and have the book whisked away without printing or boxing anything myself. I set off walking the 1/2 mile to this location and arrive in short order. There were a few people already in side and so I stand back, making eye contact with both service people. After a minute or so, one of them responds with "I'll be with you shortly" and I nod (no need to rush anyone, its just a book). When I'm called up, the rep asks, "Are you shipping that?" I say, "yes, to Amazon" and they motion while saying, "you're gonna want to grab one of those.." and points to packaging material. Without breaking eye contact, I say, "no, I have a code that says you are going to pack and ship it for me" to which they respond, "That's not how this works". At this point, I want to express some words to this person because I've been reading and following directions since before the person was born. Nevermind the shortsighted clapback, I just say, "Yes, it is". Long story short, the employee scans the code, hands me a receipt, continues muttering thoughtless rhetoric, then I smile and say, "I'm an engineer and I've followed directions a long time". -Scene While this interaction was probably not indicative of a typical interaction, I do think there is a difference between knowing how to do your job with predictive mastery and being an overconfident hourly employee. All of the experts say, "Listen first" then "ask questions" to get the best understanding of a particular situation. Better advice has never been given. I went to the store to return my stuff, and they refused to scan the bar code from my email. They offered me a desktop computer, which is old and very slow to print out the barcode. I tried to log in to my Amazon account and email. The computer keyboard is not working properly. There are three peoples standing without a job, while I am the only person in store. None of them are not ready to help when I told them the computer key is not working. Instead, they're counting the minutes how much they are going to charge me. I was very rushing and left with my returning item.Finally, when check my credit card history,they charge me 10 dollars for no service and receipt.I reported to my bank not to charge me that I'm not authorized that transaction. Watch out, they literally steal your money putting an old computer and lazy employees in the store. read more

I rented a mail box when I was expecting a large amount of packages. At a certain point, the employees started recognizing my name and getting my packages as I walked in before even opening my box. Eric has been especially helpful. The line can get long but I won't fault them for having a lot of people coming through since they usually do what they can to expedite. read more

The assistant manager, who I'll call "E", is something else. I was waiting in line, minding my own business, when "E" gave me hostility about not being exactly on their little signs on the ground that say, "Stand here." I looked down to see where my feet were, and they were directly adjacent to the sign, but not exactly on top of it. I thought this seemed a little petty, so I looked around and 3 out of the 4-5 people in this place were standing similarly, not exactly on the signs but right near them. I asked "E" why he was giving me orders about this and not everyone else, which seemed to anger him for some reason and so he went off at me. He started yelling at me, saying if I didn't stand on the sign and adjust my face mask to be more to his liking, then was going to throw me out of the store, lol. I was just there to pick up a package, not to get in a petty argument, so I kept telling "E" to calm down and to stop having a public freakout. After a short outburst he eventually recomposed himself, but geeze, what an overeaction to a small situation. Whatever happened to treating the customer with patience and courtesy? Why does the customer need to calm down an employee and tell him to stop yelling? What a crazy place, this UPS store. Do yourself a favor, avoid like this UPS store like the plague if you don't want to endure petty squabbles with power-tripping assistant managers. The FedEx on 3rd street is great! Update: See the store manager's response below. Yikes! They have complaint after complaint about their assistant manager and rudeness toward customers and they still don't get it. Let me be more clear: Everywhere has covid rules, I follow them and I've never had a problem... Except at your store, where I was yelled at and had to de-escalate your employee who was having a bit of a temper tantrum. This isn't normal and you will keep getting poor reviews until you fix this. read more

We needed to notarize a life certificate. Our usual notary was on vacation, so we tried the close by UPS store. Their 'notary' at hand said, she was not allowed to answer questions on such a document, whereas the document itself stated clearly ".. must be filled in by a competent authority (such as a notary public)." Her refusal to read carefully the English translation(s) & her rambling explanation left us with no option. This UPS store just lost one customer. A notary public at Santa Clara quickly notarized our life certificate, as did our usual notary a year ago. read more

$14 for a box and some tape. Not a large box, but a box to fit a small book. Complete rip off. Avoid at all costs. Go to Target or the Post Office to purchase boxes. ONLY drop off here. Don't fall for their $2 tape fee. read more

Went here with my fiance to get a domestic partnership notarized. Owner stayed past normal hours in order to notarize the document for us. Incredibly polite and helpful. On top of that, gave each of us a small gift in the color of our choice. Best possible experience and I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

There are two USPS's two to three blocks away in opposite directions, no need to waste your time here with Manju, she's rude & incapable...a combination that wont have her winning any customer service awards any time soon. After Manju wasted almost an hour of my afternoon reviewing the definition of flammable, and then struggling with that information, I refused to ship with her and took my business to the Post Office on 1st st. They shipped the same (because it's not freakin flammable) package for 50% less...arriving twice as fast. Save your money and your sanity...you have waaaayyy better options within walking distance of this crappy "establishment". read more

I've visited this location twice, and twice i've left upset. The same gentleman worked here both times I visited and his attitude just brings a vibe of negativity. In each instance he did not even look at me, but addressed me in a short, terse, and rude manner for not complying with his many rules and regulations to drop off a pre-packaged box. I've used the wrong tape, he needs to verify weight before i leave, etc. Customer service delivered at this location would be a solid 0. I do 99% of my shipping through my office/Fedex to avoid this person. read more

I came here once to take an online driving exam to satisfy my online driving school requirement. While I took the course at home and sat through hours of boring videos that I could not make go any faster, the DMV required that I get up, drive over to the nearest UPS store, and my take my final exam online. I am obviously a bad driver since some cop gave me a ticket for driving in the carpool lane at 8:56 A.M. This was according to his watch (as mine said 9:01 A.M.). Anyway, if I am such a bad driver, why risk the health and safety of the citizens of San José by making me leave my computer at home and drive to a UPS store? It makes no sense. And neither did my damn ticket. Complaining aside, the staff here was nice enough to set me up with a computer so I could take my final exam, which I passed. Now I am back on the road being a menace to society! I am such a rebel! Normally, I would give a place like this 3-stars, but I came here on a Saturday and it was pretty empty (so the employees were clearly not very busy. As I took my exam, the employees played some terrible music in the background. The entire time they joked and laughed and occasionally would help customers they walked in. But not once, did they clean up the awful mess in the place. It felt so cramped in there with so many spilled boxes all over. I can forgive the bad music. I do frequent the Cinebar. But the mess was terrible and distracting (so I must deduct a star). Maybe I have ADD? Or maybe I just needed a beer that morning? read more

I came in here a few days ago to ship some items that were already pre-paid by the receiver (packaging, shipping, etc.). It was a pretty straight forward process and I thought it should only take a couple minutes. Now, let me tell you about my experience... Allen was the name of the associate helping me out and I told him that I needed to ship my items and to charge the amount to the specified business account. He told me what the estimate would be for packaging and shipping, but, again, I told him that it was already prepaid. He told me that there's no way to do that without an invoice (or some other kind of paper that he wanted, I can't remember). Okay, so maybe there's a chance that I didn't print out the required documents or something, so I told Allen that I was going to give the receiver a call. Allen then says, "You're wasting your time. Whatever they say, I can't do it." Wow, talk about horrible customer service. A normal sales person would reach out to one of their co-workers for advice, but not Allen. I decided to give the company a call anyway and they gave me clear instructions on how UPS should be able to process the transaction as is, without any additional documents. So I hung up the phone and relayed the information to Allen but he still said he can't do it. So, I call up the company again and they asked to speak to Allen directly. After a lengthy conversation, UPS apparently DOES have the ability to process the transaction, proving Allen wrong. However, now Allen says he can't do it because his "system is offline." I finally gave up and drove to another UPS store. I honestly think Allen's system WAS online but he was just too embarrassed about being proved WRONG. The other UPS Store I went to was able to ship it out with no problems (surprise, surprise!). Don't ever come to this location unless you love dealing with low-class individuals that can't even provide basic customer service. read more

I rent a mailbox here and I've been satisfied with the experience. The people behind the counter are friendly, they contact me when large packages come, my mail is promptly sorted, etc. I also love the free underground parking. I appreciate how Gilbert and the other employees take ownership of a problem - they say they will make it a point to take care of something, and they do so. read more

Horrible service. I would recommend going to an actual UPS store rather than a authorized dealer store. This place, an authorized dealer store, charges $2 fee per package to wrap packages by a "Certified Packing Expert" to ensure the "Package" gets to its destination safely. This, of course, is a bunch of crap and an apparent business scam. A 9-year old kid with a hand held tape dispenser can be a so called "Expert." But hey, people have to make a living and when you don't have tape laying around, paying $2 for two 6-inch strips of tape, is worth it than driving in afternoon Bay Area traffic. To quote the immortal Kimmy Gibler, "How rude" was the person behind the desk as well. Smh. In summery, a one star review. read more

All i can say is that ups has a bizarre way of counting days. 5 day shipping will be counted as follows. the day you drop off the package doesn't count as a day. Then, the 5 days will be counted as follows: suppose I drop a package off on monday. the package will be in their system on tuesday. tuesday-wednesday is 1 day, wed-thurs = 2 days thurs-friday = 3 days, friday-monday = 4 days. monday-tuesday = 5 days. Thus, as the customer service representative told me, a package dropped off on monday can be expected the next week on a tuesday by the end of the day. horrible customer service in terms of talking to a customer and seeing what they wanted, just got pushed from one person to the next until i spoke with a manager who explained to me that ups "guaranteed" shipping doesn't have much of a guarantee at all; he didn't know what happened if a package (like mine) was delivered late because "it doesn't happen" shipping from another vendor in the future. nothing too bad about the store itself, other than the people of course, but ups is not going to be my method of choice for anything that has perishables that need to get somewhere in a gauranteed amount of time read more

Absolutely vile experience dealing with this location. Sounds like the owner is a tyrant that is only concerned with the bottom line. I came in to return a package recently and didn't feel too confident about my tape job and asked if they wouldn't mind just adding a strip of packaging tape and was flat out refused, furthermore was told that if the package opens up during transit that they would not be at fault... really?? Why would you be man-handling my package in the first place! Was told I could purchase an entire spool of tape if I needed to. Come on, seriously? I needed at most 12 inches of tape! Apparently the owner wasn't it but the employee held firm to this policy, so I can't blame them but after I commented on the owner's draconian business practices the employee threw me out of the store as if I was unruly. I was upset, definitely, because I was being taken advantage of, but asking me to leave? Too far. This location obviously has no concern for their customers and if not for bearing the UPS name it would have been out of business ages ago. I suggest not wasting your time with this store. Either choose a different vendor or drive to another location. read more

I had been meaning to mail something out but just hadn't been able to find the time to hit up the post office during the week. I decided on Saturday to finally get it taken care of, but unfortunately neither post office in dtsj are open on Saturdays. Wanting to finally take care of the errand I just went to this UPS store instead. There was only one employee working and the gentleman in front of me had a large package he was getting packed. After waiting a few minutes, I was helped by the nice young lady who was extremely knowledgeable about all my prices and options and was very professional. My whole order was completed in less than two minutes. Unfortunately, I can't give this place any more stars because of the price inflation they have for usps flat rate services. I think I paid more than a 50% premium on what the usps charges, but then again I didn't have to deal with the post office and this was the only option open downtown on a Saturday. read more

Hate to say it but this is the worse place for service ever. Not very friendly at all and when you ask for someone else it only gets worse. I went in and saw a lady almost reduced to tears from dealing with the lady behind the desk, then another associate came out and blew her off as well. The lady then walk over to help me and brought that same attitude to me and I had to check her because I wasn't in the mood and I had gotten into it with these people a year back. If you need the services they offer check another location. If you want to find out for yourself be my guest but from one yelper to the next I'd say don't ruin your day coming here. read more

Unlike Tom I'd have to say my experience wasn't quite as glowing. Granted, we all have a first day where we're being trained on their job, but getting an international package shipped doesn't need to take 15-20 minutes to do. Actually, the fact they have dance music blaring at the store can't be good for anyone's moral or concentration - they might want to turn the Rhianna down so the customers can be heard. The folks here seem ambivalent at best about working in some franchise outlet (though I don't blame them) - and the idea of giving customer services at large chains sometimes isn't seen as necessary, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by this place. read more

This store is fine for basic things like shipping and passport photos, and the people who work there are typically friendly and helpful. I would not recommend anyone come here to have fingerprints rolled, though. I had to submit old-fashioned prints on a card, and came here since my previous experiences at the store had been positive. I wasn't very confident during the rolling process (which took upwards of 20 minutes), but honestly thought they wouldn't let me leave with bad prints. Long story short, the prints were rejected, which significantly delayed the application I had submitted. When I was having a second set rolled (at a different location) it became painfully apparent that the woman at the UPS store had absolutely no idea what she doing when she rolled mine. All in all, this place is great for simple services, but if you need fingerprints rolled, I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more
