My friend had a matcha and I drank an iced tea. We shared fries. It was a very comfortable low pressure place. It felt like home. The check was pretty reasonable too. Short version: go somewhere else. Long version: We were in town on 27 July 2026 for a couple days and dropped in for dinner. We were a party of 6. It's a comfortable little place with a nice vibe. Our waiter, Daniel, was great. He introduced himself and told us about specials. He took our drink orders and promptly came back with same. We asked about some appetizers and he gave us great advice. We ordered the fried chicken app (yummy, fresh chunks of fried chicken with a nice dipping sauce.) we also had the eggplant croquettes, those were quite tasty. The dates wrapped in bacon were also yummy. We ordered more food for dinner. He took a couple more drink orders,all good. After a bit he told us the food would be out in about 10 minutes, and it did! We had a three cheese pizza which was great. One of our party had the cauliflower salad and said it was very good. The French fries were also hot and tasty. The lentil soup was reported as being just ok. The beef bourguignon looked great. Unfortunately, the beef was dry. It had great potential but missed the target. Same for the roasted half chicken, it looked great, the sauce was great, but the chicken was overdone and dry. The bread pudding was so so. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM was that Daniel left after the dinner came. Eventually a young lady came around to our table. She never introduced herself, but the ticket said Nyla. She literally never would clear the table. I cleared several big plates and put them on an empty table next to us. Those empty plates were there when we left. The plates with pizza crust and the finished bowl of lentil soup were also still there. She never brought the bill. I had to flag her down to get it. Then I had to get up to go pay. I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and finally had a chance to have dinner with a friend here. Inside, it was spacious with low lighting, giving it an intimate feel. They were offering the Restaurant Week menu, so we decided to take advantage of that. This included a drink, along with 3 courses, consisting of Appetizer, Entree, and Dessert. For the drink, I selected the Lazy River and only non alcoholic option, which consisted of Coconut, pistachio, mint, rosewater, lime, as well as seltzer. This was a bubbly, refreshing drink that was strong in Coconut and Lime. I had the Fried Calzone with sausage, tomato, mozzarella, and pecorino as the appetizer. This was 2 huge beautifully made Calzones, however there was barely any sausage. It was full of thick, melty cheese and well seasoned tomato sauce. The outer shell was wonderfully crispy. I just really expected and wanted to taste Sausage, so I was disappointed. I tried my friend's Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and I'm usually not that impressed by chicken, but I enjoyed this. The Fried Chicken was satisfyingly crunchy, tender, and flavorful. My entree was The Garrison Burger, which was a beef burger with raclette, confit onions, burger sauce, gem lettuce, and french fries. This was just okay. The meat was cooked well, but a little on the bland and dry side. The cheese with onion and sauce was a nice addition. Fries were thick, delightfully crispy with great potato taste. Dessert was Bread Pudding with sour cherries and buttermilk caramel. This was not a traditional Bread Pudding for me, but I did enjoy the rich, creamy caramel, as well as the cherries, which are my favorite fruit! I found the Bread Pudding itself to be thick, dense, and sweet from the caramel sauce. Service was pretty good. I wasn't that impressed by the food, but next time I would like to try the Piggyback Dates appetizer made out of dates wrapped in bacon with cheese inside. read more

I think the last time I ate here was during the shut down and hadn't been back since. Grabbed a solo brunch after an appointment nearby and I'm mad I haven't been back sooner. Ordered the garrison platter and it didn't disappoint. The pancake was delicious. I wish more restaurants would use warm syrup and let the butter melt in it but that's just a personal preference haha (they don't do that here btw just think it would take the pancake to the next level) I wasn't a big fan of the bacon but overall enjoyed it and would order again. Maybe try the sausage or see what alternatives are available. Definitely seems like a local staple with a constant stream of folks coming in. Chill vibes. The combination of Wasabi and Gin kicked me upside my head... Strong AF!! Whilst simultaneously tricking me to believe I was eating sushi. WTF! Now I freaking wanted Sushi, which they don't sell. My head was all over the place! The mixologists creativity was ingenious! Appetites now open, we chose some tasty apps. Charcuterie is a must when available. So the Cheese and Meat Plate it is, served with these infused diced apples, which we thought were some other fruit. Trying to test how great our palates were...Are these Pears? Plums? If you can't get into Dutch Baby and don't want to wait, come here. Uptown Garrison is only 6 blocks away from another brunch spot, Dutch Baby but the vibe is drastically different. Dutch Baby also doubles as a (delicious) bakery but the brunch times there can be very overcrowded and chaotic. Uptown Garrison serves brunch and also doubles as a cafe. I've come for traditional brunch on the weekend and also have come during the week for their cafe/brunch service. On weekdays, you order at the barista counter instead of a server coming over. They do serve the full menu of brunch if you order at the barista counter. I haven't come for dinner yet but I'd like to. Service is always good and food comes out pretty quickly. The food is a decent, affordable brunch and not much different than the brunch you'll get at Dutch Baby (and you'll get less of a headache trying to get a table). I've had the egg sandwich and avocado toast and have no complaints. The brunch isn't anything outstanding or different here but it's a solid place to come. They have pastries but I think they are made out of house and brought in by a third party. If you want a solid brunch without the chaos of Dutch Baby in the same neighborhood, Uptown Garrison is a solid choice. The entrance appears to be accessible for wheelchair users. The bathroom also seems to be compliant for accessibility. The second half of the restaurant is accessible via a small staircase but the other half does not require use of stairs at all. My shakshuka rating: 7/10 I went for brunch with family and was deciding between the shakshuka and the fried chicken and waffles. Don't think twice-- order the chicken and waffles (unless you're vegetarian). (The presentation of the shakshuka looked better than my pics. I mixed it around before taking the pics) The egg in the shakshuka was cooked all the way, so don't expect a runny egg. There was also a lot of peppers, which didn't bother me at first, but near the end, it felt like a lot. So unless you love peppers, go for it. You also get served a side of bread, which helps. But let me tell you-- I kept wishing I ordered the chicken and waffles! From what I tasted off my relative's plate, it was slightly spicy, and the chicken could've been seasoned more, but it was very satisfying. Brussels sprouts: I'm a huge sprouts lover, but I didn't enjoy them. They were too tough and had little flavor. Fried calzone: I liked the dough, but it came barely warm. Burger: very sizable, but this was the only thing positive about it. The bun was tough and old. The meat was over cooked (I asked for medium-rare) and, again, barely warm. The fries tasted old, too. Pizza margherita: the flavor was ok, but the dough was way too soft. Overall, although we felt warmly welcomed and graciously served, we have very little reason to go back. Marg- 5/5: we did have some extra toppings but you really can't go wrong with a Marg. I thought it was great. The sauce was scrumptious. My only gripe was with the dough. It's surprising how many places give you plane grits and this that's how it's supposed to be, but these were approved by a Southerner! Went for brunch today and was disappointed with the service. We wanted to sit outside. They said they have a table but that they need the table back in an hour for a res. That's fine. However they didn't let us know that we only had an hour, and also that service would be slow. Food took a while to come out. 40 min after we sat, waitress dropped the check (we were done eating but we still wanted coffee). Coffee comes out 15 MIN LATER (so 55 minutes into the hour) in to-go cups. The whole point of ordering coffee was to enjoy it there out of actual coffee cups, not as a goodbye present (at our expense). If they brought it out fast and we could have enjoyed it for 15 min at the table, that would have been perfect. We felt so unwelcome. We were fine with leaving in an hour but they took so long with everything we ordered and then basically kicked us out. Waitress wouldn't even make eye contact or acknowledge that we felt uncomfortable for the last 10 min we were there. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly host. The restaurant was nicely dimmed and the AC was just right for the humid warm day. It seemed moderately busy for a Friday night, but we were able to be seated at small tabletop with very little wait. We decided to share the garrison burger, mushroom pizza, buttermilk fried chicken, beignets and lattes. We ordered everything up front, to reduce the wait time of eating by course order. The beignets came out first. They were four to an order and came with vanilla marscapone. They were delicious - fried to perfection and not too sweet. The beignets paired well with our lattes. Unfortunately that was the peak of our meal. While we could taste that the rest of the food was made with quality ingredients, it left a lot to be desired in terms of seasoning. The burger was bland. It's listed as coming with a "burger sauce". We couldn't taste it. It felt like we were eating soggy bread with bland meat. The fries were ok. The mushroom pizza was also bland. We could kiiiinda taste the garlic but thats it. We feel like maybe some truffle oil could have saved this one - but thats neither here nor there. The buttermilk fried chicken could have used more chili honey glaze and more seasoning over all. If it weren't for the dipping sauce, most of the chicken would have gone untouched. Although we got our food fairly quickly, the service was underwhelming. Nobody wants waitstaff hovering over you while you eat, but to not have your waiter check in on you at least once after receiving your meal, defeats the purpose of dining out as oppose to ordering take out. The first time I came I had breakfast, The Garrison Platter it comes with organic pancake, 2 eggs any style, house-cured bacon, strawberry jam. The bacon was BOMB! Nice thick slice of bacon. The eggs are fluffy and the pancakes had buttery crispy edges. I would deff order this again. On my second visit I had the chicken and waffles it came with buttermilk fried chicken, chili honey, Liège-style waffle, buttermilk ranch, maple syrup. The waffle at first may seem small but the whole dish was perfect size. The chicken was perfectly cooked through. Nice and crispy full of flavor. I didn't like the buttermilk ranch but if you eat it with everything it kinda goes lol. But the cherry on top was the chili honey! I love me some spice! Third time I went for dinner. I had the Artichoke Pizza which came with artichoke puree, garlic, oregano, fried artichoke, lemon fresh parsley, Parmesan, lemon. This pizza was delicious. A little turned off by the big pieces of artichoke. I wish they were smaller pieces so it can be eaten in one bite. But it was a good ratio of ingredients as far as cheese, topping and bread. It also had a nice crispy and charred bottom. The parsley & lemon was a game changer it gave it that touch of freshness! My fourth time I also went for dinner with my sister. We started off with the Sausage Calzoniti. This was sooooo good. Be careful not to burn your mouth it comes piping hot! Then we ordered the Broccoli Pizza. It came with roasted broccoli. Chili purée, garlic, mozzarella, caciocavallo, Parmesan and lemon. This pizza was good but I wouldn't order it again. I just love me a meat pizza. The beignets were good. It was a good portion size. I give them props for cooking them to perfection. It's tough to fry these bad boys and not get at least one undercooked! It came with a size of vanilla marscapone. The apple crumple was a fail for me. It was too dry for my liking. It should of came with some ice cream or some other cream base sauce to make up for the dry crumble on top. Had the great opportunity to visit this restaurant today. It's a quaint New York restaurant that is very warm and comfortable when you enter. Remember, you must show proof of vaccination.
