After visiting for brunch today, I'm excited to be able to update my review with a full five stars…read more- Swing the Teapot is officially one of my local favorites! I had the tea experience with Black Velvet and it was just what I needed. I'll admit that the licorice and peppermint were very faint, but it was still a tasty tea and sharing a large pot with my partner, we finished the whole thing. My MIL loved her ginger peach tea, and my friends each enjoyed theirs, one getting his go-to peppermint and the other trying the red raspberry and remarking in how pleased she was with her choice. Lesson learned- if you come here and DON'T get tea (with the adorable teapot, teacup and saucer, all charmingly mismatched) you're doing it wrong. Because I'm weird, I just ordered the Irish soda bread with a dish of whipped cream as a "light" breakfast, and I appreciated that the server humored me to the fullest. My partner had a blueberry muffin that he was super pleased with, probably his favorite that he's found in the area so far. My MIL unabashedly devoured her chicken salad sandwich and the potato salad it came with - usually she's picky so that's quite the endorsement. The avocado toast and burger that my friends ordered all looked fantastic too. Great service, delicious food and tea, and very good prices- next visit will be for the live music!

Their potato leek soup was delicious as was their hibiscus, rose hip tea, my friend had a shepherd's pie, a well made mimosa and apple pie. No pictures of the apple pie, it was devoured in conversation before I could take a picture.

There is also advertising on the large screens so you can keep up to date to see what is coming in the future that you may be interested in seeing. Parking is free and if it is really crowded, there are people in the parking lot directing you as to where to park. There is no guesswork with where you should place your car. There is also quick access to the parkway. You have to go thru a metal detector once you get there and if you have a handbag or a knapsack, they will ask you to step aside so it can be inspected, The seats are very comfortable but the seat numbers are not readily visible-I had to ask someone if I was in the correct seat. I would recommend for any live performance.

This was a cool venue for smaller music shows. We went to see Franke Valli and the Four Seasons,…read moreand the ticket included parking. There was a line to go through security, but that was a pretty quick process. You couldn't bring in food/water, but you could buy a can of water, which is not such a great way to store water for ongoing needs. Of course food/drink was way overpriced as is expected at venues you can't bring your own. Almost a non-existing merch section, but that may be more about the audience than the venue. The circular rotating stage allowed us to have a better view/be closer than a venue with the same capacity with a forward-centered stage. The sound was nice where you could hear very clearly without the sound being overbearing. The only big issue (which is true for a lot of venues) is the poor design to leave the parking lot and everyone merging in together to a singular light to leave. I'm not sure how much can be done to revise this, but it's a pretty big factor in us contemplating if we want to return or not.

I came to the Shrine World Music Venue with a few friends after a Friday evening at a cigar lounge…read more I had no expectations and had walked by the Shrine several times not knowing what was there along Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. Unless you know about it, you can easily walk by, given it blends into the general Harlem cityscape, especially during the day. Then at night, especially during the afterhours when I was there, the scene flips and this place becomes turnt up! People were lined up trying to get inside at 0130. The bouncers were searching and patting people down, nothing absurd or overly intrusive. There is a cover charge and they take credit cards for the cover. As you walk inside, the bar in on your right. Keep going and the dancefloor awaits you. It's not that large, but people are generally very courteous. There are a few places to sit, especially in the back in the left corner. That is also where the steps lead you downstairs, presumably to the restroom, which I did not have to use. The vibe is poppin' inside and it is fed by the DJ on a stage in the back, playing Worldbeats, Afropop, Afrobeats, Reggae, Dance Hall, and Soca. They are setup for live bands here. The volume is high, but not uncomfortably or earsplittingly high. The people here are drawn to this vibe and energy. You can dance here all night and the air conditioning and ventilation are of the capacity to keep you and everyone else comfortable. Stick around until closing time at 0400 when everyone starts walking out and the AC nearly turns the Shrine into a refrigerator. For an unassuming place on the outside, it is clear this is a place you can come to with friends or a date if this is your vibe and it's hard to imagine anyone not enjoying this. Prices are reasonable too at the bar. They have a good selection of draught and bottled beer. Guinness on tap was $9 for a pint. They serve up the cocktails too. Four fun and returnworthy stars!

We did have two drinks and the service was OK. You're here for the music. My understanding is after the bands leave at midnight you can dance until 4 AM. This is a good chill, relaxed spot. You don't need to get dressed up. It's very casual and you will have a good time.
