We love Lakeside! Yes it is definitely an older space but if you love vintage charm then you'll appreciate this diner. We have had breakfast here a ton a lunch once. We have never been disappointed. The owner is so friendly and hardworking. Yes, the pace is a little slower during busy periods but the coffee is always warm and refills are abundant. For the amount of food you get, the prices are hands down the best in town. If you want trendy- maybe not the ideal spot for you, but if you want to feel like you're stopping at your mom's or grandmas house for good home cooking, this is the place. read more

This place is a time capsule. It's been around for 50 years and the decor is a throwback to the gravel mosaics of the time. As many have noted, the waitress, who I believe is a co-owner, is charmless. There is no warmth and you will no doubt be treated like an unpleasant intrusion as you are sullenly indicated a table and served. The menu is standard old-school cafe fare and I think one of the few appeals of this place is that breakfast is served all day which is a rarity in Antioch. They boast a sign that says "voted best hamburgers" but it doesn't state by whom: I assume it is a award they have given themselves and to be fair, the burgers are hand-formed and juicy. The burger and patty melt we ate was flavorful and I have to give them credit for it. They are also the cheapest place in town to eat which I think accounts for the loyal regulars that keep this place going because it ain't the ambiance or charm. Lowered expectations will be rewarded but under NO circumstances visit the bathrooms. read more

My daughter brought me for breakfast and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast. You do walk into a time capsule but the food was made fresh, of good quality and served quickly, the portion size was large and was very good. Since then I've come back several times and tried different menu selections and so far none has been a disappointment. Keep in mind this is an old school diner type joint but where else in this day and age can you get 2 breakfasts with endless coffee for 22 bucks? NOWHERE that I have found. Go to any other place in antioch or anywhere else and your walking out with over a 50 dollar bill for basically the same food. Or you can go to mcdees and pay the same for 2 cappy sandwiches and hash browns. More if you want coffee. Thier burgers are one if not the best I've had in antioch and the fries are awesome was well. I've been here once prior to this visit for breakfast with a friend and the food was great then so decided to try it for breakfast with my husband. There was one server and one cook (I think he may be the owner because he cooked my food when I came for breakfast). Service was a little slow, but it didn't really matter all that much to us. A couple things to note: they do not have a drink machine, everything soda related was in cans and while we were here, the only selection was sprite, Diet Coke or Pepsi(can't recall which), and Mtn Dew. They are warm and are served with a glass of ice. I ordered the breaded pork tenderloin and it does not indicate on the menu, but it comes with a heavy brown sauce, carrots (or a vegetable) and mashed potatoes. When it was set in front of me, I did not have high hopes but whooooooa was it good. Like every part of the dish was fantastic. My husband had the burger and he said it was great, too. I tried his "fries" and they were crispy on the outside and like mini mashed potatoes on the inside. Soooo good. The interior is very much mid century modern and I loved it. It's quirky. I love a small quaint diner feel but this place was like stepping into the twilight zone. The waitress shouldn't be waiting tables, maybe she saves her personality for the regulars but she was cold and unwelcoming. She never came back to the table after taking our order,we had to flag down the busboy to get water and other condiments. I actually wanted to leave as soon as we arrived and should have. The owner was the only one cooking so food was coming out rather slow(which had it been good wouldn't have been an issue). I think the only people who are giving this place a good review are the regulars who go there because they go behind the counter to get what they want. A patron went behind the counter and served himself coffee and then proceeded to actually make another pot. I guess people go here because the prices are cheap because it's not the food. Cute little diner in downtown Antioch and that's about all that's good about it. When I walked in, it was as if I was interrupting a conversation between two of the employees (maybe one was an owner or manager?). They turned to me and said, "Can I help you?" I responded by saying, "One for breakfast." It was such a an awkward and odd way to be greeted. The hospitality didn't stop there. The waitress and, let's call her manager, carried on a very personal conversation about family conflict which drowned out the tv playing The Price is Right. The service was lackluster and I truly felt like I shouldn't have interrupted their conversation by trying to have a meal. Not one smile on anyone's face except an older gentleman (possibly Bobby?) toward the end of my meal that filled my coffee with a great attitude. If everyone had his demeanor the experience would be much better. The waitress could take a lesson as there were no customer service skills. Now on to the food. I ordered cup of coffee and the "Field Hand Special" which is 2 eggs (poached), hash browns, ham, and biscuits and gravy. The eggs were cooked perfectly, but neither they more anything else was seasoned. It all came on cold plates which rendered the food a lukewarm temp and only became worse as I ate. I love breakfast and will sometimes I'll have two entrees at a diner like this. Here I didn't finish one. The biscuits and gravy was not made from scratch and it showed with gummy flavorless gravy that I have no idea when it was cooked. The ham was cold and rubbery. Hash browns oily. It was a disappointing experience because I was so hopeful for a small town diner to represent the community and be a go-to place for a solid breakfast. Other reviewers are right about how they treat the regulars as a few came in while I was eating. Even with modest prices there is nothing to pull me back to give the place another shot. Two stars. Lakeside is a classic American restaurant. I had the best hamburger I've had in a very long time there. Our waitress was a bit shy at first but opened up and was friendly and charming but not overly attentive. The cook ( who I think might be the owner) introduced himself and told us a little about the restaurant. This was our first visit but it won't be our last. No social distancing or precautions other than a bottle of sanitizer by the front. Wish I could say the food was good, but it was terrible. Very cheap quality. Just happen to have no choice but to go there because the place across the street was closed. There were only 2 young girls working and the line was out the door. They were seating every other booth for some reason so the wait was long. The waitress was really nice and who I believe was the owner was barely helping them out and was none too friendly to any of the costumers supplying his business with money . This restaurant can easily not be noticed very well. The sign doesn't stand out very well. But as we are so close to Antioch, we just never went there. Our plans for Mother's Day had changed and recently my daughter had recommended Lakeside Restaurant. She was very impressed with their reasonable prices and good food. She was right as usual . Cheerful waiter greeted us and was very attentive the entire time we were there. I had the Lakeside omelet that had ham, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms and I asked for cheese included. Comes with hash browns and toast. All too often hash browns can be over done and can have a very strong after taste. These were really great and my omelet was simply wonderful! My husband ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs over easy, toast and a side of sausage links. He certainly enjoyed his meal also and joined 'The Clean Plate Club'!!!! I had gone over the menu checking on lunch and dinner selections. Really well rounded choices and very reasonable. This is easily a 5 star restaurant! The food is always fresh and meals are made to order. Sometimes they may not have everything that is on the menu, but there is plenty of other choices. BEST juicy hamburgers. No blanched fries. I love their pancakes! If you go there often you will see that the cook and waitress work their butts off and by the end of the night, they are tired. Everything is homemade here! Sometimes you encounter the kitchen not having the full menu but it makes up for it when you taste the food. I have been going here for years and feel like a part of the family. It's a small family owned business thats been in the same space in downtown Antioch for over 23 years! The food is completely fresh and everything is made from scratch. The staff is a husband and wife and occasionally I think their kids. The husband is the cook and the wife works up front. Its a great atmosphere and you really feel like home. My favorite is the burgers. Hand patted it seemed like and HUGE. The only downside is they don't take credit cards so its a cash only establishment which can catch you off guard! Otherwise I love it and the people. read more

So, this is one of those places that run poorly on purpose. Have not tried the food here yet. However, it's not intended to give the customer the best experience. It's located in a far off town called Antioch. It's just one of those places where there isn't much to do. When I walked in, I had to ask if the place was open since you had one employee sleeping on the booth and another employee checking his texts. When I came in, nobody walked up to me to ask if I wanted to sit down, so I had to speak up to get their attention. It's more a help yourself kind of place. When she took our order, she barely talked, or should I say mumbled. She then came back and told my husband we are out of biscuits and dropped the menu on the table and walked away. A man and a woman walked to empty booth near there and I could see now she was going to sit there but she greeted the couple looks like they knew each other! She walked over to where she placed the cake asked if she could put a small bag by the cake that held cake candles! The elderly couple said do we get a piece absolutely they laughed ...They knew each other! Went early afternoon on a Friday after seeing the "best burgers" sign in the window. We were greeted, if you want to call it that, by quite possibly the most bored waitress I've ever encountered. She asked if we wanted coffee, we said no, she brought us water. End of discussion on beverages...they have a fountain soda machine, though it appeared out of order. The soup of the day was supposed to be clam chowder, but we were served some sort of vegetable chicken stew (which was surprisingly tasty, though not what we ordered.) Our sad waitress was also apparently the cook; she served our burgers with little discussion. The burgers, too, we're surprisingly tasty. The fries were chopped pan-fried potatoes...and tasted horrible. 2 stars given for the good burger, though the rest of the experience left plenty to be desired. This place is a perfect example of a poorly managed and even worse staffed business. I came in on Father's Day, with my entire family and the experience was something to laugh about, all of the way to Lake Geneva, Wis. When we walked in, there was nobody to seat us, so I grabbed a big booth and the rest of my family followed me in... as the manager told us that he could not fit us in. Funny thing, there was plenty of room to be seated. It got worse from there, we had a waitress, that reminded me of a Russian Prison Guard, that I read about, Gulag! She was about as fitting of a waitress as a flamethrower is as a cigarette lighter. So then the manager takes over... "sorry, we are out of Hollandaise sauce, (no eggs benedict), we are out of strawberry's, (no strawberry pancakes), we are out of fruit, (no fruit plate). Hang in there, it gets even better... the bathrooms are atrocious and certainly not a place that I would want my kids using, talk about losing your appetite. Now, it gets even better, when I go up to pay, the Manager/Waiter/Cashier/Host/Dish Waiter, says, "We only take CASH!" WHAT? There is no sign on either of the two entrance doors, or at the register stand. I ask you... what kind of restaurant, does not accept credit cards/debit cards? I will tell you what kind, the kind that should not be allowed to be in business. I paid the bill in cash and ended up giving them a .96 cent Tip. This place should close its doors and go out of business, they are not up to the task of running a real restaurant. We were going to go to a new restaurant in Antioch, called Mauri's Cafe and next time, that is where we will be! read more

Still only accepts cash at least they now have a sign by the entrance door. My mind told me Get the hell out of here, but I figured, How hard could it be to make breakfast and stupidly went in anyways. Place seats about 50 people and the was only about half full. Most of the people sitting looked unhappy and did not have food on their tables. My wife noticed that there was only one guy In the kitchen after we placed our order... Too late to bail! I watched patrons go behind the counter and get their own coffee refills which was weird. After about a 30 minute wait for the food to arrived as reviewed earlier and had the presentation of a chow line with food just slopped on the plates. My wife's bagel had a glob of cream cheese sandwiched in it that looked like a stick of butter. I wish I took a picture of her face when it was served as one would have thought that it was a turd..lol. The rest of the experience was less than lacking other the the homeless guy that came in and took over the lunch counter with his own desk calendar, notepad, and giant street map. If it were not for the circus of characters it would have been a complete wash out. Unfortunately we will NEVER return to the Lakeside Restaurant...
