I wasn't sure what to expect based on yelp reviews, but I typically enjoy most Ethan Stowell establishments. This one was no exception. K and I, with our friends P and K came here on a Saturday night during restaurant week and it's in the Via6 building. The space is cool and very open and not busy (granted it was halloween weekend and this place is located across from the spheres). There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar. We were seated towards the back in a comfy booth and the ladies opted for the restaurant week menus (app, main, dessert for $35), whereas the guys went for the prime rib for $36 (which is accompanied by bread and salad). We started off with calamari and wings- both tasty. For my 3 course, I did polenta fries, roasted half chicken, and profiteroles. K did the macrina bread and olives, fish and chips, and lemon pound cake. Polenta fries, good. Half chicken came with a roasted potato/onion/trumpet mushroom medley. Chicken was good, slightly dry at the breast, but potato/onion/mushroom medley was delicious. Macrina bread, good. Fish and chips were meh- it was a bowl full of fries with two small morsels of over breaded fish, and the lemon pound cake was very dense and dry. BUT the fries were great. Now the star of the show was the prime rib. You get a very large/thick cut of house made prime rib, roasted potato/onion/trumpet mushroom medley, a side salad, and basically a half loaf of baguette. It was cooked well, very tasty, and generous portion. I'd definitely come back to try some other things on their menu, but I definitely wouldn't miss out on the prime rib. read more

Looks great on-line. Decent menu but we were really disappointed. Location, ambiance and facility was good. Not very busy on a Saturday night which should have been a clue. Started with a request for sparkling water. They were out. Wait staff was poorly attentive and trained. Ordered prime rib, after checking with the kitchen, was told they were out. Two of my party ordered roast chicken. When I ordered, after confirming with the kitchen was told they got the last two! WTH! The food was mediocre. Typical American diner food. Completely unexciting menu. Food is average at best. Espresso martini wasn't cold enough and no 3 beans on top looked like someone just poured cold coffee in a glass. I just visited The Victor for the first time this past week with a few members of my team. As it happened, "a few" turned out to around a dozen...or so. In hindsight, probably not the coolest thing to show up with so many without forewarning, but upon arriving, Christine (I believe is her name) totally took it in stride, was very accommodating, super fun/interactive, and just the right amount 'spicy.' Overall, great vibe and great experience! My team recently returned to our downtown office a few days per week and I've been on the hunt for a convenient place to go for a drink. First time checking this place out, on their 2nd soft-opening night. Ethan Stowell owned. Amazing laid back restaurant, perfect for a casual evening with friends. The restaurant is very spacious a s doesn't feel over crowded with a few extra long tables for bigger parties. It's perfectly situated in the heart of SLU/Amazon area, right across from the spheres off 6th Ave. Definitely try the Wedge Salad, by far one of the best you'll have in the Seattle area. It's full of bold flavors and very filling with thick chunks of bacon, and a hard boiled egg. The Dungeness Crab roll is also a must, tons of crab with fresh flavors from the crab and minimal mayo/sauce. They also offer a great selection of beverages, plenty of options for that much needed night cap. read more

Had the best big salad of my life. Was visiting our son and daughter-in-law in Seattle and this was our first time here. Vic's Tavern Chop Salad is to die for. And it's huge. It is a meal in itself. The rest of our party had burgers and they too were delicious with hefty portions. And the cocktails were awesome and strong. Always a plus. The Nicoise was ok. It came with 3 pieces of rare tuna in triangular shapes with sides beautifully seared, baby tomatoes cut in halves, small whole baby potatoes, soft eggs, small portion of olives and green beans. The other 70% of the dish was just lettuce which I had maybe one bite of. And this big percentage or portion of lettuce goes the same for Steak salad and Tavern Chop which my co-workers had. All 3 of us dropped food on the table because there was so much lettuce compared to the actual size of the bowl. We weren't able to mix the salad and was technically forced to eat everything on the top, then left with just lettuce at the bottom in our bowls. 3/5 The Victory Burgers which I had a portion of was juicy and well cooked on the inside. It also came with side of fries which was beautifully fried. 5/5 The drinks were a little sweet and the waitress put A LOT of ice in all of them even though 2 of them should not have ice which we requested clearly. 2/5 Atmosphere was relaxing, clean and friendly. my husband, two dogs, and i ate outside under the heaters on the outdoor patio like maniacs on new year weekend! we actually grabbed a quick bite here to-go since we were staying at a hotel just around the corner, and we weren't expecting a whole lot, but the burgers we ordered smelled amazing and were cooked well. they tasted great, not too salty like another review mentioned, albeit maybe a little bit basic (good but nothing new or mind-blowing). we got a surprise envelope with our meal, which was a cool gimmick: come back in the next month and have the sealed envelope opened by a server, and win a prize! well, we woke up hungrier than expected, and wanted to have brunch somewhere nearby and dog-friendly before hitting the road. lo and behold, the victor tavern allows dogs on their patio, which has several wonderful heaters hanging from the awning! so, we returned quickly with that envelope, and we ended up winning a delicious dessert. we also had the clam chowder, which was hugely portioned and much heartier than expected; this was a welcome and warming surprise. the server was so nice even having to come outside into the freezing air to help us, and we interacted with several different employees who were all so helpful and kind, and who were all very friendly to our dogs. we cannot wait to come back for lunch one day and visit the amazon spheres right across the street! read more

Was here on Friday 9/10. Was visiting a friend in Seattle and it was right down the street from her building. I arrived after 9PM and was starving and we were able to get right in. The drinks were great. I got some variation of a whiskey sour which was great, and she got another frothy drink which was also great. I ordered the King of Clubs, which I assumed was a Club sandwich (I didn't read far enough into the description, more in a minute.) She got a Kale and Romaine Caesar and added chicken. We watched as the table next to us got their food. Their burgers looked great. We were encouraged but also probably thinking (at least I was) that we should have got burgers. Yeah, we should have just got burgers. So, my sandwich arrives, and the waitress sets it down. It's cut in half. I take a bite, and then I'm like, what is this? There's no turkey on this sandwich. It's this weird patty made of some kind of protein, too much mayonaise, maybe some mustard and just not at all what I expected or wanted in a club sandwich. I was convinced she had brought me the wrong thing. So, I look back at the menu. I didn't have my glasses on when I first looked and also ordered quickly because I was hungry and the club sandwich was the first thing that caught my eye, especially the first part of the description which included applewood bacon and avocado. I guess I just never got to the part that talked about a "rotisserie chicken croquette" Yes, a "croquette". Picture a crab cake, but make with bland chicken with too much other stuff, and pressed into a patty the size of a burger. The texture was awful and the taste was not much better. I tried to make the best of it, but could only eat a half of a half (one quarter of a sandwich.) There were a lot of fries on the plate, so I picked at those, but they were not as epic as I was hoping either. Basically, I left about 85% of my meal on my plate. And her salad. OK, it's a boring salad to start with (Kale and Romaine.) And adding chicken did nothing to help. Granted, they were very generous, there was probably a full breast on top. Almost too much chicken. But it was just plain, white chicken. Some huge chunks, some skinny shreds, not appealing to look at, and not really even to taste. After a few minutes she was like, "this is too much chicken, I wish there was some more greens." She offered me some since I was NOT enjoying my sandwich so I took a big chunk, and then realized I put down this whole sandwich full of gross rottiserie chicken to eat this piece of bland chicken breast and from then on I just could not eat or look at any more chicken. The waitress came by. Not necessarily to check on us but to ask if we wanted another drink. I was tempted as the first one was good, but my friend said no thanks, so we passed, which was good because they were a bit pricey and if we would have had another round that would have pushed my bill over $100 for 2 rounds of drinks and crappy food. But what I realized is the waitress never asked how we were enjoying our food. Did she not notice our plates were still full of food and we had stopped eating? If she had asked, I would have told her. Instead, I'm writing this review. Another worker came to clear our table and offer us boxes. We said No. Again did she not realize I had literally taken 2-3 bites of my sandwich and had absolutely zero interest in taking it home? Or see the big chunks of chicken and zero greens in my friends salad bowl. My understanding is this place had just opened. I think that day actually. You would think they would be looking to get more feedback so they could work on their menu. Everyone was nice. Service was good. They just didn't seem to care that we didn't care for the food and had no interest in doing anything about it It's possible I will be back there at some point, as it is convenient to my friend's house, and it's open late. And if I do, I would try the burger. But I would recommend that most people stay away from the King of Clubs sandwich. I would even suggest to the staff at Victor's Tavern to take it off the menu. Get some sliced turkey and serve a traditional club sandwich. It's a classic for a reason. read more

I don't give many 5 star reviews but we have been to the Victor Tavern several times and have absolutely loved it. First, the happy hour menu is huge, with good deals on food and drinks. Portion size for happy hour plates are great. Highly recommend the steak tartare and Caesar salad. Wings are not too bad either. Off the happy hour menu, the French dip sandwich is amazing. Came here for happy hour with some old friends and we opted to sit outside (its heated and i had Chloe with me). Service was good and the food was good as well. I'm glad this place changed from the previous restaurant (over priced Japanese food that you can get at a teriyaki place that's just as delicious but half the price). Next day we did the Seattle Underground and decided to come back here for happy hour food and a drink. Food came out quickly and was very good. I had the prime rib sliders and a Caesar salad. SO GOOD!!! Everyone else had burgers and fries. Food was hot and burgers were generous. The bill for four people, including tip, was still over $100 but we all agreed that it was great.
