The omelet was softly cooked just as requested, and was accompanied by perfectly ripe avocado slices, crisp roasted fingerling potatoes and a generous amount of rather salty smoked salmon. The drip coffee was strong and bitter, but our charming and outgoing server, Jojo, had no problems supplying us with extra cream and sugar. Of the food, I love the mushroom side with the truffle fondue. I wanted to dip everything in it as it was so flavourful and delicious. Complimentary bread with butter and blue cheese butter were offered to start. The brussel sprouts side was also unique with the added pistachios and a crisp for some crunch. The hearty mussels and clams starter were great for a rainy evening. Portion was enough as a meal by itself, too! There is a covered parking lot for those driving. The first time was amazing--the portion was generous and the steak was cooked really well. The second time wasn't quite as impressive, but still enjoyable. This time, however, the Tomahawk was noticeably below the standard I had experienced before. The doneness wasn't quite right, with quite a bit of over-charred exterior, and there was also a lot more fat than I expected. What I found particularly strange was the way the steak was presented this time. Normally, a Tomahawk has the meat on one side of the bone, but this one seemed to have the meat separated into two sections, almost as if it had been cut through the middle of the steak. It just didn't feel like the Tomahawk I was used to having here. The steak also cooled down very quickly, and once it got cold, the texture became noticeably tougher and less enjoyable. The service was also particularly slow this time. We were seated around 7:30 PM and placed our food and drink orders within about 30 minutes. The drinks came out within roughly 20 minutes, which was reasonable, but we waited almost an hour before the first appetizer finally arrived. Considering it wasn't an especially busy evening, the wait felt quite long. That said, the other dishes were still pretty good. I especially enjoyed the Stuffed Squid appetizer. Overall, I still think Alta is a nice option for a small gathering or dinner with friends. I've enjoyed my previous visits, which is why I keep coming back. I just really hope the Tomahawk can return to the quality it had on my first visit.

However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser!
