The Village Coffee Shop salads are excellent. The picture below is of the California Chicken Salad.. My favorite salad at the Village.

Amazing place awesome service. Great cooks. Great food. Come join us at the Village Coffee Shop.

Country fried steak with Italian breadcrumbs....

We should have known better. Came by on a Sunday morning and it wasn't packed. The coffee tasted burnt and old. We ordered the "huge country fried steak" breakfast because it's their specialty... the fried steak is breaded in Italian breadcrumbs. But the bottom of it was as if they pressed it into the crumbs again. Raw breadcrumbs Italian season topped with a white country gravy does not go together. There was no seasoning on the hunks of potatoes for the "country potatoes" and it's as if they did a hash brown, French fry, potatoes mix? Very confusing. Overall the spot is severely outdated, the food was rushed with no passion behind it but the ladies who serve there are all very friendly hence the 1 star. They were the only good thing about it.

Here's what I ordered and ate today at The Village Coffee Shop, just one among many breakfast menu items and Village specialties!

Listed above this little box in which I am typing my review are the reviewing suggestions: "food," "service," and "ambience"; well, The Village Coffee Shop in Lodi (next door to the O'Reilly auto parts store) wins with me in all three categories! Breakfast has always been my favorite meal, and The Village Coffee Shop knows how to fix it and serve it with a smile! The wait staff, cooks, and proprietors Juli and Raleigh are all hard-working for, and personable toward, the clientele. The patrons themselves are "repeat offenders" like myself, some of them being as faithful as "Norm" from the Cheers sitcom in showing up virtually every day for some fine country-style breakfasts and lunches. There are scores and scores of photos of happy customers posted in the back room, though I myself haven't yet attained to such an honor. And I can't leave off mentioning the friendships and unspoken bonds with other Village customers whose faces youve seen a hundred times before you finally get to know them by name. Also worth mentioning is that the food is both tasty and affordable. Last but not least The Village is without question a "gives back the the community" eating establishment. Special meal events (often spaghetti and/or lasagna served) are a frequent activity of The Village, with raffle prizes for the winning ticket. The Village has a special interest in donating the proceeds of these "events" to women's shelters and relief aid for low income families and other distressed members of the community, aid for the families of injured or fallen fire fighters and police -- you name it! If my budget allowed, I'd be eating at The Village Coffee Shop in Lodi seven days a week. And now you know why!

I Love this spot. The ambiance gives classic diner from the coffee mugs to the menu and quick service. The staff is always friendly and the food is always spot on. I love the classic 2 egg breakfast. It's just wholesome food.

Definitely not my favorite breakfast place in Lodi. The food was just okay, really lacked flavor in my opinion. Ambience was okay, service was good, my favorite part of this place is their homemade jams.

Stopped by to enjoy some amazing breakfast at The Village Coffee Shop on my way up to Sacramento. Amazing food! Came in hungry and left full! Our server Mariah did a wonderful job always topping off my coffee and making sure I had what I needed. Great people, good atmosphere! Can't wait to come back again!

    Diner brekkie. Word.

You gotta have diner food at least once in every city you visit. It's an unwritten law. Village Coffee shop is your quintessential bustling diner complete with a long counter, melamine wood grain table tops and a hanging refrigerated dessert case. The short order cooks were cooking 5-6 orders at a time at a cadence I couldn't keep up with. Piping hot coffee, hot cocoa with a giant dollop of Reddi-Wip and stick to your ribs biscuits and gravy, flapjacks and chicken fried steak. I'm not much of a brekkie fan, toast and yogurt is usually how I roll, but this time I splurged with a warm cinnamon roll. Tasty and hit the spot. Judging from his plate he loved the B&G and chicken fried steak. Gotta love the teens griping about having to work or do the dishes. A wise man once said "youth, it's wasted on the young" to which we always replied "wealth, it's wasted on the old", we always got a chuckle. I digress. Lots of menu options, the place was crowded and tables were turning over by the dozen. This diner isn't going to win awards for its esthetic, but that's the charm of it...that and the terrific service and darn good prices.

Stopped in for breakfast, to what appeared to be a very local family owned business. Everyone who came in knew everyone and the waitresses knew how everybody took their coffee. It was our first visit which we thoroughly enjoyed our food. The atmosphere will definitely go back. I had the California omelette, and my husband had ham and eggs. The biscuit was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed my omelette.

My friend and I went to the Valley Coffee Shop on a whim bc other places we wanted to go were not open at 10:30 am on Tuesdays. We were pleasantly surprised by the neighborhood coffee shop feel of the place, comfortable and cozy. We were seated right away and were given enough time to go over the menu. Our decaf coffees came right away. It was the one of the best decaf drip I had in a comparable coffee shop, much better than Chuck's in Stockton. We both ordered the hamburger scramble. I love that they gave us a choice of side we want. I wanted cottage cheese and fruits, while my friend ordered hush browns and small pancake to go with her order. The hamburger scramble hits all the right places, especially with added salt, ketchup, and chili sauce. Delicious. I will come again with my husband. He will love this place.

Trusting in Yelp reviews, we headed to Lodi's highly rated and popular Avenue Grill. Service was wonderful. Our server (blond lady with glasses) was friendly and chipper and had a very nice demeanor. She was on top of everything. Food came out quickly too. Seemed like the rest of the customers there were local regulars, who knew one another. Cozy, family-friendly vibez. I got the chicken fried steak with crispy potatoes. Good country gravy, seasoned potatoes, and chicken fried steak was delicious. Big portion, enough for leftovers. My husband got the steak & eggs. The steak was a little too dry and under seasoned to my husband's liking. He always orders medium-well, but it was more well. I did agree that it didn't have much flavor. But I had it the next day for leftovers and thought it was good mixed with my gravy and potatoes. So if you're looking for a good traditional breakfast diner, this is probably your spot. I don't think it was worth a drive from Sac, just because there are a lot of similar restaurants, but if you are already in the Lodi area, definitely worth a visit.

Bad: Their "Kobe" burger was $29 or so and was a good portion size. The problem? Lacking any kind of flavor or seasoning. The beef was flavorless. The stroganoff was a good portion size but again it was severely lacking in the seasoning department. Good: Those who ordered the corn soup and the porcini mushroom ravioli enjoyed them. They especially enjoyed the sauce from the ravioli. The desserts overall were enjoyed by the table. The sticky toffee pudding, while not as rich as we are used to, was still relatively good; soft and moist enough. The dark chocolate oblong with mango passion fruit was enjoyed by everyone too. The interior remains unchanged; like a classy London gastropub. Service: communication is key. Where they dropped the ball was that we mentioned on the reservation that we were there for Father's Day and prime rib, which they do on Sundays. As you walk in you even see the sign for the prime rib special. We sat down and the server mentioned that there was no prime rib this weekend. I had even chatted with them on the reservation app and they made no mention of this. We could have gone somewhere else had we known in advanced. Our server was relatively nice too.
