Jason was our server and he got our orders right. Food was warm - not hot - but it took awhile to get it, so we ate it as it was. It was good. This is a comfortable place to eat, so we got our "free" pies to eat in the restaurant. Husband got a cream pie, so there was a $2 up charge. But he LOVES their coconut cream, and cream pies or specialty pies are $2 more. When it came time to use our reward, Jason had to ask for help. Made another visit with my wife (off diet) for late brunch. Right in and seated. This time wife ordered the Ultimate Skillet. Excellent but a lot of food so half came home. I was in the mood for Country Fried Steak and Eggs. Eggs were perfect, Steak was crisp and delicious. We did pass on the pies, thankfully. Service was great, place was fairly quiet. Standard Village Inn food, nothing more or less. They took over another restaurant so the layout is a little more open, fresh and a bit quieter than the usual Village Inn. Our server (Morgan) was prompt and friendly. I do not like restaurants that automatically add tip to the check as it de incentivizes good service. Morgan, however, did a good job. Great experience! This particular location felt more like a local diner than a Village inn chain, and made me feel very welcomed. Servers were super friendly and helping each other out despite a busy brunch hour when I went in. Sat at the bar and had attentive service. Great conversation with the hostess, didn't catch her name but was a local from Pinellas county. Coffee came out in an insulated carafe. Options for vanilla, hazelnut or plain cream. Seems like they had a ton of options for lattes and other drinks as well. Got the V.I.B meal with eggs, toast, sausage and waffle. Everything came out quick enough and fresh. Eggs perfectly over medium and the breads perfectly toasted. The sausage patty is the hamburger-patty looking kind but tasted like standard pork sausage, yummy though. So thrilled there is still a Village Inn nearby! I was so sad when the one on Race Track closed. (Again). We arrived about 1pm on a Wednesday and waited a few minutes for staff to come up to the front. Even though it looked very busy, they still had a booth for us! Our server, Matteo, was wonderful! Happy, friendly, and very pleasant. Menu hasn't changed much from what I remember, although, I noticed you can now get the breakfast burrito in a bowl which I thought was very convenient. I stuck with my favorite, low-carb "build your own"...2 eggs, cheese omlette, bacon and sausage links. Hubster got his favorite, the Ultimate Skillet. They charge an 18% surcharge on your check. The manager stated it was the tip for the server. When asked why then were we charged tax on the 18% surcharge, she stated it was to make sure the server paid their taxes on it. I told her there was no tax on tips anymore and she just walked away. My friend assured me she had been here 2-3 times since it became Village Inn and we had just had pies from another location at our Thanksgiving dinner . They were good. The special of the day was Fish and chips. I love fish and chips and so I ordered the special. Let me say here that it was awful but the manager did not charge me for the meal and brought me a piece of pie. The breading on the fish was not cooked thru- the inside was mushy and raw. The fish itself was frozen in the center and had no flavor. My friends said her meal was good. I will not be going back there any time soon. Maybe after a long wait. Village Inn is known for its high quality pies. While it had been years since I bought pies from them, they did not disappoint. We ordered a cherry pie and a french silk pie. The cherry pie had the right amount of tartness in the cherries and was loaded with cherries. The french silk pie was excellent as well. I highly recommend ordering pies from Village Inn. The liver with extra onions was cooked perfectly, just the way I make them at home. I go there just to get the liver and onions. I ordered an omelet with toast instead of pancakes, but what I received was plain white bread not even toasted, and it was very dry even with butter on it. You are also charged a tip automatically added to your bill, even though the bill asks for an additional tip. Pros: Great sized restaurant with tons of seating! Nice location and love the drink menu. Con's: the cook leaves a lot to be desired. Tried this place twice now and both times the food was murdered. Asked for light hashbrowns and they came out burnt. Literally to a crisp! Asked for soft poached eggs and the yolk was totally cooked through. Requested a re-do on the eggs and very little improvement was made but in addition it had some dark gross tasting brown stuff of them. Potatoes were deep fried in the Ultimate skillet and veggies were so tiny it was hard to get any in a bite. The 'juice' with the senior citizens coffee was insulting to say the least. Came in a shot sized cup as if I were a child. Really hope they either get this cook some training or get a new one but can't say I'll be rushing back any time soon. read more

just returned from breakfast with wife. do not like the forced 18% tip weather food or service is bad. they are losing out because i always tip 20 to 22% . server did not bring water for my wife or ketchup for me and forgot my pancakes. then the bill came and was charged for more than the price on menu. their 4 item breakfast turned into five items. the menu says 2 eggs with bacon under the first item but they said eggs are one item and bacon a second item. very misleading. will not be returning. read more

Update 7/31: I received a call from the General Manager who was very kind. She asked that i come back and give them another chance. Went back on a Friday and ordered the hand battered cod. It was 100% better! Definitely not frozen. I would go back on a Friday for those. Unfortunately i believe on all of the other days the fish is frozen, and the chicken is always frozen. I appreciate the great customer service though!!! Thank you! Went there on a whim for a late lunch. We ordered the chicken strip and fish and chip meals. Chicken was hard, tough and overcooked like it was leftover and microwaved, not freshly made. Possibly frozen, not made from scratch. The fried fish looked like it came out of a Gordon's frozen fish box, both were exact same size rectangular in shape. Zero flavor. Hand battered..I have a hard time believing that. 18% mandatory already added in the check is probably making up for their lack of customers bc of the bad quality of food. $37 for frozen fish and chicken and a drink was way too much for this place. My husband and I went to the Village Inn located on 3682 Tampa Rd., Oldsmar. There is one owner and he owns nine other Village Inn's. I truly believe the Village Inn is a perfect fit for the Oldsmar community, decent food, reasonable prices and in and out pretty quickly. The menu is traditional American diner food, although I do wish they had healthier options, particularly with the obesity epidemic. I had the turkey avocado melt with cole slaw and it was really tasty with thick slices of turkey! Crystal was our server and she was friendly and professional. She had our drinks and food out promptly, always smiling and a very nice personality. The restaurant interior decor was completely updated and it had a clean contemporary look and the booths were very comfortable. They have table and chairs in the center of the restaurant and I couldn't help but notice the sturdy, over sized large chairs which were made with solid hardwood with extra wide seats and extra wide back support. After seeing the list of delicious pies they offer I get it! The restaurant was pretty busy but not loud like other restaurants. I can appreciate my husband and I having a conversation and we can actually hear each other even though it was pretty busy the restaurant is quiet which makes it a pleasant atmosphere. Overall we had a great experience with the parking, ambience, service and food and we will be back. Just an FYI, I was disappointed to hear they will be opening a full bar soon which I don't quite understand for a restaurant that really specializes in breakfast and lunch. There are way too many restaurants in Oldsmar that serve alcohol and we have more than enough deadly, dangerous drunks driving on our roads. From the start the service was not good. I actually had to go over to the two servers sitting in a booth talking to come take our order. The food arrived quickly with a complimentary hair in my bowl of fruit. Never saw our waitress again until she brought the check. She spent most of the time at a table talking to another customer. I decide to tip her accordingly at check out. Until I found out a mandatory 18% tip was included in all checks. The hostess told me that our server was supposed to tell us that at the time of service. I am assuming she forget since I had to ask her to take our order. I decided to call a manager after I left because of how busy it was with customers buying pies for the holiday. When I called, I asked to speak to a manager. I was on hold for a few minutes. When someone did pick up, it was the hostess not a manager, so I asked again to speak to a manager again. After being on hold for 11 minutes, I hung up. TERRIBLE all around. This used to be our favorite place however I think it's a bit ridiculous to add a 18% mandatory tip and have the server not bring us silverware. We had an issue regarding our prices- they were charging us more than it was and the server instead of just listening to us and grabbing the menu so we can show her that it was priced wrong. unfortunately she's did not and she was very much in the wrong. She proceeded to tell us that we were wrong and that it would have been more. That was not the case, we have no issue paying the amount of money we have but if it's priced wrong and tip is already included, you bet I will make aware of the wrong price. At the end of the day they fixed it, but no one in that establishment bothered to apologize. The server handed me the ticket without saying she is sorry or that it was priced wrong and just walked away. I do not believe that whole experience was worth a mandatory tip of 18%. Another thing, I feel like basic training needs to occur because for us to not receive any silverware or have us wait until they run to the back to ask a question on the device they use to put in the order it should not happen as often as it does. I was super excited when the Village Inn opened close to our home. I grew up going to Village Inn when I lived in New Mexico. Sadly, we had a bad experience there. Although, the waitress was super nice, our order came out extremely wrong. We asked for additions to our order but the waitress substituted the items that came with the meal even though we said we would pay extra for them. Our food became cold waiting for the sides we actually wanted. Also, simple things were not brought to us like ketchup so we had to go to other tables and ask for them ourselves. At the end of our meal, the waitress asked how everything was, we were honest, she smiled and ignored all of it. This is not the restaurant I remember growing up.
