Customer service when ordering was good but this is the worst eggplant parmigiana I've ever had unfortunately. The eggplant was one huge steak like slab that was difficult to cut or chew perhaps from not being cooked thoroughly to soften it. My partner said the chicken parmigiana was ok but he said the noodles almost tasted microwaved. My chocolate gnocchi was put in the same bag as the hot food so the top melted off by the time we got home. Still tastes like chocolate so I don't care that much. Maybe we just went on a bad day since it was Wednesday but unfortunately I would never come here again even if the food was less expensive. I'm bummed because I have to find something else to eat because my eggplant isn't even really edible :( read more

I think people need to temper their expectations with the fact you're in basically rural Oregon. This isn't a city, it's definitely a small town. I came here after finding it on the Find Me Gluten Free app. I came here because I have Celiac disease and read the owner of someone related to the owner is also a Celiac. Ambiance is definitely Italian restaurant in small town America. It's at the end of a strip mall near the Albertsons market. My menu was a printed paper that had gotten wet and then dried so the ink for the drink menu was smeared. Waitress was nice. She let me know that the fried foods and the desserts were gluten-free. I was disappointed to find out that making the food gluten-free is an undisclosed upcharge and that there wasn't any gluten-free bread. I got the appetizer of fried mushrooms for $15 which I felt was a bit much for button mushrooms rather than a fancier fungi. I had the $24 gluten-free chicken parmesan and while it was fine, I think I'd go with something else next time. My husband got the regular pasta and ordered the $23 carbonara, not even looking at his menu. That was a mistake because their carbonara is a mushroom cream dish and my husband hates mushrooms. "Carbonara" is a specific dish - cured pork, eggs, hard cheese and salt and pepper. Imagine ordering bolognese and it being full of mushrooms as the default. It's odd. My husband ordered wine and I got an Italian soda in guava flavor. Usually I'm sucking down 4-5 glasses of water but the water here was the local tap water which has a strong mineral taste. Great news! The Vine is still awesome & the little energetic misunderstanding with the server I spoke of has blown over in a really beautiful way. One of the last experiences I had there she was our server & it ended with her bringing me a slice of their delicious chocolate torte on the house & a hug at the end of the meal! The food is still top notch! The Vine continues to be a staple of the area for friendly, affordable semi-fine dining. It's fresh & delectable & everything is made to order & in house. Also - budget tip: you can split any plate with someone for $2 & I swear it's the perfect portion for each person. So you're basically getting 2 meals for an up-charge of 2 bucks! Can't beat that! Their soups blow my mind every time & their rotating veggie app is always divine! This place is a real gem. Quaint, chill & just casual enough to not feel like a stuffy "high end" experience. Not what we expected. Restaurant in a shopping center. It was convenient. We were blown away. Very attentive service. Dalton was our host and waiter. Very polite and professional. Oh and bartender too. He did it all and did it very well. Just enough attention without being intrusive. Then there was the food. I had the spaghetti with meatballs. My wife had the salmon. I've been dining here with family and friends for years. I would say it one of the better Italian restaurants in Grants Pass. The location off in the corner of a local shopping center is a bit unassuming, but once you go inside it's a welcoming retreat. I usually get their chicken piccata or their beef short ribs. We tried The Vine on a Thursday evening about 6pm. We met our daughter for dinner, she has just moved to Grants Pass and we were visiting. The Vine is located at the end of a strip mall that includes Albertsons and several other businesses. When you enter you would never know it wasn't a stand alone business. We were seated in the back room next to a wall that had twinkly lights which were so pretty. Now for the meal... My daughter ordered the blackberry cocktail and it was really quite good, it was served in a champaign glass with a sugared rim. I opted for the limoncello spritzer it was so good I had 2. Hubby had a Peroni. We started with the roasted garlic appetizer it arrived with a full bulb of roasted garlic, a thick slice of cheese that was a combination of Brie and Gorgonzola it was delicious, and sliced baguette. We would definitely order it again. My hubby had his standard Spaghetti and meatballs he said it was very good. I had Chicken Piccata which I enjoyed but would have preferred a heartier type of pasta, it is served with angel hair and I'm just not a big fan of angel hair. I should have paid more attention but nevertheless it was delicious. Our daughter had the Lemon Basil Shrimp, this to me was the standout dish of the night, even if it was served on angel hair. It was light but still had a depth of flavor that had you taking "just one more bite." I will order it the next time we go back. I was disappointed that they don't have oglio and olio on the menu, it's my favorite Italian dish but to be honest very few restaurants do offer it so I wasn't surprised. We ate at the Vine two Fridays ago -- this after not eating there for 4-5 years. We were really pleased with all aspects of our meal experience: the ambiance of our seating arrangement was very good, we had an excellent, long-time server who was very attentive to our meal needs, and our dinner was excellent. I had the traditional spaghetti and meatball, my wife their carbonara. Both meals were well prepared, tasty, and had larger portions than we anticipated. Chicken Parm was very good. Nice breading, the right amount of cheese and liked the sauce. Normal spaghetti and generous portion gave me another full meal. Chicken Piccata was okay the chicken was a bit chewy but that can happen. Appreciated they allowed a substitute of veggies for pasta when asked and they were very good. Everyone liked the chocolate cake and I also think the creme brûlée was enjoyed. We did have a group of 6 and it took longer than expected for the meals to come out. We had dinner at the Vine Restaurant last night. The food was delicious! We tried several menu items and the creativity, flavors and portion sizes were great. The seared calamari appetizer was flavorful and served on top of an ancient grain. The soup of the night was a chowder filled with salmon, sweet potatoes, corn and coconut. Our entrees were also very good- I had the chicken piccata and my husband ordered the pot roast. We have enough food left over for dinner tonight. I should also mention the cocktails were tasty too. Our first stop at GP was at the Vine restaurant! This is a favorite of our friends and I understood why after dining here. Staff was very welcoming. They were super busy but had time to greet us with a smile. Our waitress made some recommendations based on what we were in the mood for. A gentleman (Dustin?) checked on us. Shared a story or two about the restaurant and his roots to GP. I love the personal touch the entire interaction had. Meals were prepared fresh. You can literally taste it in every bite. Sauces are very light, yet packed with flavor! We loved it! Mrs. shared her Chicken Carbonara with Ian. Both of them loved their dish! I had their Chicken without any pasta. Lemon was not overpowering. It was faint, mingled well with the sauce and gave every bite of chicken a rich taste. This is how restaurant food should taste like! Not greasy, not light/bland. We were late going home from a lovely day in Ashland so decided to find a local eatery thereby eliminating having to stop again. The selection descriptions had my mouth watering and made it hard to decide what to have. We were seated immediately even though the place was quite busy. I finally chose the Chicken Piccata and my husband, the Bosciaola after our attentive waitress Darian described the dish - the menu didn't explain anything beyond the ingredients. I admit it's been a few months since I've come back here. It may be a good bit longer before we return. This was my favorite Italian restaurant. Tonight was just so disappointing. We made a reservation, and when we arrived on time expecting to be seated immediately, we ended up waiting 15 minutes while the young hostess seated others without a reservation. It was puzzling and annoying. Someone needs to explain to her the purpose of having a reservation. While we perused the menu, we watched the people around us as we usually do. The wait staff seemed to be confused and not sure what their job was supposed to be. The young bus boy kept walking around as if he were searching for something. I'm not sure if he knew what was expected of him. He didn't really clean up the empty tables; as the waitress was doing that in between serving customers. The employees seemed to be wandering aimlessly, trying to figure out what was to happen next. The food had been the entire reason we came here, but this time was so disappointing as to make it a total failure. The lasagna was very salty with so much cheese on it, and the sausage was overcooked. I recognized one noodle layer, and that was well hidden by all the cheese. Hardly any sauce, and I think it was supposed to have spinach, but that was hard to tell. I loved coming here, but this was a total failure from the start. I love The Vine! The food is amazing and very reasonably priced. The drinks are fun and delicious; I always get a lavender French 75 and my husband the barrel aged manhattan. They have a great wine list, including a lot of local and Italian wines. The ambience is pleasant. I always enjoy the waitstaff. I love taking family and friends here. They always mention it and their favorite menu items. My mom loves the lemon shrimp; my faves include the boscaiola, pollo alla Marsala, and the carbonara di pollo. This absolute gem of a restaurant captured our attention about 6 months ago on a previous visit, and our experience was so good we had to visit again. I hope the residents of Grants Pass realize what a great restaurant they have! The manager said a local poll rated it the fifth best restaurant in town. I'd say more like the top five in Oregon. Let's start with our meal... No detail is too small. The presentations are inviting; it looks so good that you know it's going to taste good. The still warm focaccia our server brought us was good with either the whopped butter with finally chopped sun-dried tomato (I think) that came with it or the olive oil and balsamic vinegar requested. Nicely browned on the top, soft and flavorful in the middle. I ordered a Caesar salad that was perfectly prepared. Tossed lightly in a tangy Caesar dressing with what appeared to be freshly grated coarse Parmesan. The croutons appeared to be house-made. It was ample for the four of us (I. Fact I had a second helping and my palate was disappointed when it was gone). My entree was the Carbonara alla Pollo. In a word it was delicious! It's not classic carbonara, but as the manager told me it's the Southern Oregon version. Loaded with chicken and mushrooms in a cream sauce with what seemed like a touch of Sherry topped with the coarse grated cheese, it was rich, mouthwatering and filling. I loved it! My wife had the Chicken Marsala, which she had on our previous visit. She will tell you it's the best chicken Marsala she's ever had. She's shared bites with me, and I have to say she's spot on. The wine list is good with a good variety and prices to suit every budget. Local Oregon wines, including from the Rogue and Applegate valleys, are featured. I asked our server for a wine recommendation and she unhesitatingly said the Zinfandel. With such an enthusiastic recommendation I tried it. She was right; darn good. And yes, I had it with my Carbonara. For dessert we shared a Crème Brûlée that was a quality match for everything else we had. A word about the staff: friendly, efficient, all on the same page. They clearly worked as a team, helped one another, and ensured a fine dining experience. The manager was working as hard if not harder than anyone -- carrying plates from the kitchen, helping the chef, helping the wait staff. It's a staff in sync and harmonious. This restaurant is on the west end of a strip shopping center, and well worth the effort to find it. I recommend it highly. read more

I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and my wife ordered the fettuccine alfredo. We each ordered a salad as a side for a $9 additional charge. My spaghetti sauce was very sweet. The salad a giant green piled mess. A small container of dressing on the side. You need to cut the greens into bite size pieces just to eat it. All along our trip I started watching menu prices for salads with dinners. None were more that $7 and most were $5-6. All were more tasty and easier to consume. Service was fine. In fact there was only one item on the menu that couldn't be made as GF. At first we saw it was in a strip mall and were seriously apprehensive. However they came recommended by another up-scale restaurant in town and we were so grateful because it was one of the best dining experiences ever/anywhere (and we are well travelled). We don't live in Grants Pass but we're in the area for some business and it happened to be my birthday. I was looking forward to a good meal at The Vine. Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience and we probably won't be going back. We ordered a Caesar's salad and split it. It was very good but could have less rock hard croutons in it. The salad was the best part of the meal. I had a steak dish (Bristecca Piemontese) with garlic mash potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The vegetables consisted of butternut squash and Brussel sprouts. My first bite was of the Brussel sprout and it was rancid. I thought maybe it was just one. I tried another one and it too had a rancid taste and I spit it out. It was truly disgusting. I told the waitress right away and she offer to exchange the Brussel sprouts with more butternut squash. I told her I would just pick the Brussel sprouts out. My husband had a beef and rigatoni dish (Bocaiola). It was cold and the flavors bland. We would have considered dessert but just wanted to box up our remaining meal and head back home. I was hoping they would discount my meal or comp the salad but there was no offer of that. Our server was great and I think she felt terrible that our meal was subpar but it's not the wait staffs problem, it's the cooks and the owner/managers responsibility to ensure they're customers leave happy.
