I have come to value this hotel as an ideal spot for a "stay-cation" from anywhere throughout Southern California (and beyond). The hotel itself has a charming ambience and is located close to, and within walking distance of, a plethora of local shops, markets, restaurants, bakeries, takeaways, and--of course--downtown San Clemente as well as the famous Pier Bowl. Rooms are spacious (especially the deluxe rooms) and are consistently being upgraded. Bathrooms are clean, and beds are all essentially queen or king, depending upon room choice. The booking process is always easy and straightforward, thanks to a client-friendly staff always eager to please. Since I have a preferred room for each visit (i.e., a deluxe room with a balcony from which to enjoy the views of San Clemente life), it is always appreciated when members of the hotel team accommodate my request. Each team member is top-tier, including Front-desk Supervisor Tray, Hotel Director Jesse, Sales Coordinator Jenessa, and Receptionist Daniel. This is not to forget the punctual, organized crew of housekeeping specialists who are thorough and quick with their daily services. Unfortunately, at the present time, there are no restaurant services available at the hotel itself. However, walking only 1 - 4 blocks opens up an eclectic mix of diverse eateries offering everything from sushi to tacos--and certainly breakfast, lunch, and dinner--or even just snacks, fast-casual, or adult libations. The Volaré offers a conference room ("The Del Mar Room") suitable for business retreats, training workshops, corporate seminars--and even wedding receptions. Also included on the premises is an expansive pool (for all guests) with an adjacent party room ("The Pier Room") for family-based celebrations such as birthday, graduation, and other special occasions. All in all, the Volaré, San Clemente, offers unbeatable value with its reasonable rates and accommodating staff in a seaside town with far-more expensive options. read more

The pool area is very neglected. At least have a skimmer available for guests to use so they can clean your pool for you. Also weird that pool access is through the carpark. The room keys are small wooden disks the size of a coin which seems innovative and cool but are annoying to manage. This hotel must allow pets because there was dog poop in the hallway once. The staff seem nice. The pricing is okay but you may be better off spending more money for a more premium experience. These photos are of the pool and the spa. Great value hotel located in the heart of San Clemente. We booked a room block for our wedding, and throughout the whole process, Jenessa was extremely helpful and accommodating. We got the king bed "suite", which felt like a regular room with a remodeled bathroom. Nice marble backsplashes and lighting in the bathroom, but otherwise the rest of the room felt dated. Oh well, we were only there to sleep, right? Also, the door, walls, and ceiling seemed thin, as we heard every little bump and people walking by. Our main gripe was that us, with the rest of our wedding guests, were placed in rooms all over the hotel. We assumed it'd be the industry standard that hotel room blocks meant we'd be placed together, but when we asked - they said it was something we'd have to specifically request when reserving the block. There was no communication on that part when we made the reservation. Service was a hit or miss. Everything was very "matter-of-fact" and it translated to us as "sorry, it is what it is". Meh. Parking is also limited, but thankfully overnight street parking is available, all within close proximity. We wouldn't recommend reserving a room block here, but for the location and price, we wouldn't mind booking a single room if we ever found ourselves in San Clemente again. I need to preface this review by the fact that I have NOT actually stayed at this hotel. My review is simply based off the decor and staff interactions. I came to this hotel the other day for a comedy show...yes, you read that right. I was a little surprised too, but it was super cool. It was set up in one of their event spaces. It was very intimate, but perfect. I was impressed by all the cute chairs out front when you first pull up to the hotel. Stayed here for valentines day weekend with my girlfriend. Used choice privileges points for the room so I can't speak to the room rates. Nice room, comfortable king bed, large TV set up to cast your own app shows. Bathroom was really nice bidet toilet with a seat warmer, shower and separate large bath tub. Great view of the ocean out of several windows and a sliding glass door that provided access to a nice balcony with a couple of chairs to enjoy the views. Had some trouble getting the TV to work but the front desk staff came up to our room and got it working quickly. Staff was friendly, helpful, courteous, and cheerful. We'll return. read more

The Volare is a very cute, boutique-style hotel with a great location, close to plenty of dining and shops in San Clemente. The hotel is small, so amenities are fairly minimal, but it has a charming vibe and is convenient for exploring the area. My stay began with some frustrations and communication issues that initially left me disappointed. However, what truly changed my perspective was the hotel owner personally reaching out to me. She was one of the kindest and most genuine people I've ever spoken to in hospitality. She took the time to listen, sincerely apologized, and made every effort to make things right, which I deeply appreciated. If you're visiting during a weekend or the summer, the city trolley is a great added perk (though I wasn't able to use it myself). Just keep in mind it's seasonal and not available year-round. While the experience wasn't perfect, the owner's care and the hotel's location left a positive impression. I'd be open to staying again in the future. read more

Stayed here for Valentine's Day weekend. It was a cute place with some outdoor furniture and gazebos. Service was awesome as we had a couple of issues with our TV and a lot of laughs not being very technical savvy. Gotta admit, the room & bathroom was clean, great size and the restroom had a bidet with a butt warmer. It was my first experience with a bidet and now I want one for home. Especially waking up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, a butt warmer felt pretty darn good. Lol They had fresh cookies in the lobby, which looked delicious but I didn't have an opportunity to indulge. Maybe next time! read more

I would like to start by addressing the fact that hotel director Jesse was a complete nightmare to not only guests but to her employees. Her lack of disrespect to her own employees should absolutely be taken to corporate and I think a law suit is in order. The hotel not only doubled charged us but we were told can not use the pool but later were told by another couple in there, they were told they were aloud to use the pool. Broken spa with no water, false advertisement as far as what you see online as you do in person. To circle back about the employees the way Jesse treats them with lack of respect and makes the guests feel uncomfortable needs to be addressed. If those employees weren't there that hotel would be in shambles , as they were all so lovely and accommodating. read more

The hotel is conveniently situated right by the freeway. Luckily, there were no issues with car noises during my stay. Parking is self-park in the above ground lot or underneath the hotel. Neither area is a secured area. Staff was friendly and efficient. No issues with checking in or out. They asked for my phone number at check in and I received two automated texts with a shortened link url - which I was not a fan of. The first link directed me to "add on offers" like a room upgrade or alcohol. The second text was a reminder about my check out date and an offer to extend my check out time (for a fee). Parts of the hotel was under construction. The room itself was clean and nicely upgraded. I did notice part of the paint on the door was peeling, which was probably from an improper paint job, but otherwise had no effect on the overall impression of the room. The beach/pier is a bit of a walk from the hotel. There was a gentle slope upwards on the way back - not ideal after a long active day at the beach so be prepared. read more

The hotel is a little bit out of dated and could use some remodeling. There are always some sort of random stains on the wall and sometimes the tub doesn't drain well. With all of that said, we have stayed at this hotel. Probably 4 to 5 times. The location is excellent. It's literally one block away from Del Mar Boulevard. Parking is really easy at this location and there are so many local shops and restaurants within walking distance. This location has really affordable suites, which is great for my family of four. We always get the two bedroom suite because you can never have enough space. For this, the price ranges generally from $200-$250 nightly on the weekends. They have complementary coffee and water downstairs. They also provide free beach towels, which is great because you can just drop those back off at the front desk and not track sand up to your room. The staff working there, from the housekeeping crew to the front desk agents, deserve a five star rating. read more

She said her room is really nice so I'm going to check it out it's so cute and I never noticed it before. It's down the street from my favorite sushi place. They have a pool and you can use the San Clemente gym by showing your room key. The rooms are very nice! It's very conveniently located. The girl who works at the front desk is very welcoming. The hotel is in poor condition. The website photos are not at all accurate none of the room at this property match the volare hotel website. First checked in to a room right against the free way and it was so loud there was no way anyone would be able to sleep. They have an issue with the unhoused (homeless) while I was here a week, two different people would not leave the hotel causing police to be called. The hotel rooms were outdated and dirty, chips crumbs were left in the hallway for the entire week. There was a roach behind the bed I saw because I was looking for some where to charge my phone. Paint is peeling in the rooms. Curtains stained and ripped as well. Called the front desk several times no one answered. The guy at the front was watching something on his phone when I went to check. House keeping is minimal had to ask for toilet paper and towels even though the room was serviced during the day. Also was bite by a spider in the bed. Overall nice location but the hotel needs a real renovation and staff training on hospitality. read more

I had an excellent stay at the Volare during Memorial Day 2024! The best part of the hotel is the location- you're only about 3 minutes drive from the beach or you're right near a free trolley that can take you to & from the beach. The beach was amazing and there are tons of cheap places to eat right across the road. We loved the hotel too- though it had an expensive vending machine and there were parts that were a bit holder, the front desk service was excellent, and the room was very clean and tidy. The bed was also super comfy with soft linens, and for a standard room it was super spacious (we had a whole second area that was a living room). Plus, bonus points for the pool and hot tub. I would absolutely stay here again and we had a great stay. Highly recommend! read more

We stay here for the second time this weekend. Overall we enjoyed our time. But a few things to note: The bathroom is nicely remodeled, but the overall room is old and tired. The bidet wasn't working. They sent a nice maintenance guy who couldn't fix it. The room and bathroom had weird smells, on and off at different times and throughout the night. There multiple small flying bugs throughout our whole stay. Very annoying. The 2 out of 4 front desk receptionists were unfriendly. They don't seem to want to help you. I've stayed here before -- when it was a Holiday Inn. The hotel hasn't changed much. I was given a room with a view of the freeway on the third floor. The hotel doesn't have A/C corridors. Supposedly there is a workout room but I think it was closed. The room was clean -- there was a smaller flat screen tv. The bed was comfortable. It was pretty much what you would expect from a hotel. Lots of towels, bath products in the bathroom. It had a microwave and a small fridge. It's close to a bunch of restaurants. For Covid, there is no free breakfast and whatever restaurant they had inside is closed. Staff is masked up, though I did pass a cleaning person that had their mask on their chin because that somehow helps. read more

Where to even start!! Checked in for the 4th of July not even 10 minutes there I hear this cry for help. Open my door and there is a lady butt naked in the hallway bleeding. I gave her my robe and walk her to the lobby. At the front desk is her boyfriend and the host. We ask the host to call the cops AND to my surprise, she told me no with a smile on her face... Since my cell phone was dead I had no other phone to use. After 10 minutes of convincing the host, she finally let me use the phone to call the cops for the lady. The boyfriend hit the lady who was naked crying in the hallway. This was a nightmare! I had my two kids with me and obviously did not feel safe so we left and never stayed the night. To have a host who did not care about anyone's safety I would not recommend the place at all and I will stay far away from it! read more

Great proximity to food, the pier / beach, and super close to the freeway. In fact too damn close as that's all you hear is traffic, non stop, along the I-5. The pool is far from relaxing again the freeway, and honestly is an after thought on the location, plus the pictures they posted are manipulated and truly do not capture the real feel.. This place is old, run down and in dire need of renovations, stained old nasty carpet, peeling paint and wall paper, just that old funky smell. Beds suck and the pillows are worse. If i would have known maybe the front side of hotel is maybe quieter from noise, so if you choose to stay opt for that side and learn from my horrible experience! This was my 2nd time staying at this hotel and both stays were really nice. The location is 5++++++ stars, you're pretty much right in the center of town. Just steps away from the main streets that have all the restaurants, bars and shops. There's a cute line of trolleys that run from town (right near the hotel) down to the beach and train station and back up to town. The hotel itself is actually 4.5 stars for me...it's reasonably priced for the location and interaction with the staff was good. The hallways just seem a little dated but once in the room, it's really clean and more updated. The view on the front side is awesome, you can see the ocean and check out what's going on in town. I don't think I would want to stay on the backside, as I'm guessing the view would be the freeway. I would definitely check on that before booking any room that isn't an ocean view. I asked for a late checkout this time and they had no problem giving me until 12:30. (Regular checkout is 11:00.) I think they forgot to let housekeeping know though because she tried twice to come in and clean the room between 11:00 and 12:00. Not a big deal though, she was really nice and apologetic. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel if you're planning a stay in San Clemente. read more

First impression was waiting 10 minutes for someone to check us in and another 20 minutes trying to work out how a reservation for 2 nights booked 3 months in advance was overcharged from ~$400 to over $1000. The room was spartan and at the far end of the hotel facing the freeway. The room had no in-room documentation on the hotel services or even a Do Not Disturb placard. The extra blanket was a king-size towel. If you are planning to stay there, bring a pair of slippers. There aren't even disposable ones. The gym/work out facilities are half a mile away with no signs or maps on how to get there. The San Clemente Gym with whom the hotel is affiliated with is old with old equipment but the staff are nice. Not a good value, not a pleasant facility, and surely not a place I will stay at again. read more

Came here couple weekends ago with my daughter, my husband and his service dog. When we got to the counter, the genteel at the front desk informed us that we had actually booked for October, and not for August I don't know how we made such a huge mistake while booking. Nonetheless, He was so helpful, I wish I could remember his name... I believe it is something like Vido. Anyway he was able to accommodate us in the same ocean view room and for the same price, which was amazing of him to do. He was also very helpful in recommending where to go grab some good food and was very friendly to my whole family. We had an amazing time, so many boutiques, great restaurants and dessert shops all within walking distance. The only problem now is finding the time to get away from our busy schedules out here in LA so we can enjoy another stay here. read more

We booked this hotel for a small couples weekend, but unfortunately could not stay. Entering the hotel I noticed it's outdated decor. It's not too bad; it's not trying to be five star, it's economical. Walking through the halls, I noticed that the the carpets smelled of industrial strength deodorizer. Suspicious, but not a deal breaker. We walked in and I noticed an extremely dirty fabric covered bench. Whoever thought to make it fabric had a much more charitable opinion of humanity than I . You don't even have to get close to clearly see all the various offenses to which it had been subjected. Stains galore! Next, I notice a cup mark on the TV cabinet/dresser. Is that picky? Yes. But we've after many exposés on hotel bed bugs and germs, I am anxious about hotel stays. But that wasn't the deal breaker. Because I am afraid of the aforementioned snuggle insects of luxury, I turn the bedsheets down deeply, fully exposing the fitted sheet. The top half of the fitted sheet, the area you are most likely to see, looks clean. Then the deal breaker: The bottom half of the sheet is ridiculously and obviously stained. So? Could be a mistake? I don't think you could make up a bed and not notice an obvious stain on it; it isn't possible unless you are at seeing eye dog levels of vision impairment. Horrified, I theorize: some cleaning person tried to cut corners and didn't bother to clean, or the hotel's method of cleaning sheets doesn't actually remove stains--even obvious ones. Sort of like when your dishwasher sucks and you can see last night's pasta after washing.. Even though I'm horrified, because I am dramatic about germs, I turn down the sheets on the other full-sized bed and there are stains as well, but more faint. I'm even more grossed out because who knows what those stains had been before they were poorly washed. I neglected to mention that upon walking into the room we were greeted with icy coolness from the corner air conditioner. My husband switched on the heat a bit to warm the room after we entered, but now that I'm close to the unit, after pulling back the sheets on the second bed, I can see that the thing hasn't been cleaned in some time. There are dust bunnies, and the offspring of dust bunnies. It is so dusty that bunnies are being launched on plumes of air before floating to the carpet. I inadvertently inhaled a bunny, and it tickled my throat. It was unpleasant. I also noticed that the lamps had not been properly wiped. There were residue specks of the dried glue of some long consumed condiment. I cannot wholly blame the hotel for this. What kind of animal grabs lamps with sauced hands? No sense of propriety. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay. I didn't trust the hotel because it was so dirty. I didn't even look for bed bugs. I had seen enough I understand that times are tough. People would rather onlyfans or defraud the government with I'll-gotten PPP loans than work in hospitality. People today mostly hate their jobs. You know, late stage capitalism and all that, but I can't do dirty. The overwhelmed front desk was nice when we complained and left. Best of luck! read more

My only problem was that the check out time on our door said 1200, I called to make sure. I spoke to Sue, she said 1100, I requested for a late check out and she said no because 8 other people had already requested to check out late. That totally sucked,lhey should change their checkout time on their doors and not say that "you can't checkout late, because 8 other people did already". At 515 when we finally just went to the hotel, the gentleman at reception was rude and short. He simply said he didn't get that message. At 1150 on the day of checkout the manager knocked once then proceeded to barge into the room stating we had to checkout now.
