Visited Walrus this evening with the family for dinner. It wasn't busy so we were immediately seated and presented with menus. They had several ciders available, so I went with a Downeast Triple Berry. We requested fried goat cheese as an appetizer,which was yummy. I then requested some broccoli cheddar soup, which was thin and runny, but still tasty. For dinner, I requested lobster mac n cheese. My wife requested a fried chicken sammich and fries, and my son requested the short rib dinner. My lobster mac n cheese was not very good. The lobster didn't taste great. Without the lobster, the mac n cheese was pretty good. My wife's chicken sandwich was delicious and the fries were good too. My son said his short rib dinner was a 4 out of 5. This was a rough experience. Came for bottomless mimosas and apparently they don't offer them anymore even though the sign said it. Service was bad and didn't get items we ordered. Server never returned after we got our food and it took over 30 minutes to get a check so we can leave. Had to chase someone down. Food was ok. Stopped here for date night and were glad we did! The place was packed for some sort of company holiday party, but our server was very attentive and made sure to keep us in the loop if he thought our food was taking too long, which went a long way. The gin mule I had to drink was absolutely delicious and I could've easily downed 4 or 5 of them if it wasn't for the drive home. Our server let us know that the restaurant had run out of queso due to the private party, so our soft pretzels and one of our entrees didn't have the queso they were supposed to come with. Either way, the soft pretzels came out piping hot and were really good with the honey mustard or just plain. I had the spare rib sliders as my entree and really liked the chipotle mayo it came with -- the sliders would have been very dry without. My fiance had the chili queso burger (sub veggie patty). As I mentioned before, the restaurant was out of queso, and he gave it an 8/10 anyway (but the queso would've made it better). The mushrooms were good also. The plus is they are open very late on Sundays. The down side is parking. So they both cancel each other out. My biggest complaint are the prices. We're from outa town and Andrew, the bartender, really made our night a great one! The service was so good we brought friends with us the next night. We ordered take out that was delivered. We ate probably 30 min after it was made, so I'm taking that into consideration. I ordered the wings and they were still crispy. Umm, where do I start? Overcooked brussel sprouts? Bland, tasteless steak frites? Overcooked, hard, chewy calamari? One would think that the Walrus, with decor and ambiance alone, would be a great outing with great food - absolutely not the case! I can't even say the Walrus serves 'ok' bar food as I would not get any dish that I ordered again. The brussel sprouts were an overcooked mess, to the point of being slightly mushy. Further, it seems like bacon bits were sprinkled on top. Anyone knows that if you're going to do Brussels with bacon, it should be sautéed together so that the Brussels have a bit of bacon fat seasoning. These Brussels tasted like they were boiled in hot water with bacon bits added as "garnish." Next, the steak - no sear, no seasoning, nothing. Lastly, the calamari - tough, burnt, chewy. We complained several times, as did others and were basically told "oh well." And no one in our area was even watching the game. Waitress did the best she could under the circumstances. A place I would recommend to anyone visiting Columbus! Being pescatarian the menu is so awesome and even for vegetarians it's a big menu. Today I ordered the lobster Mac n cheese and the vegetarian nachos for an appetizer. I would rate both of these solid 9.1's as they are always made great, hot and ready to eat. I wish I would get more chips for the nachos as there are soooo many toppings. I got the lobster rolls for lunch today and this time I asked for them warm and I will never change that again! Hot lobster rolls are the way to go! A solid 9.4 and I get these every time I go. If you are looking for a lobster roll and you're an east coaster this is the place in Columbus. June was my server today and did an excellent job dealing with my stupid friends so thank you! I would rate this place a 9.2 on most days and if I'm feeling the need for a food coma I come here! I've ordered from the Walrus on ubereats before and really enjoyed their burgers and fries! I came in the other week on a Wednesday for karaoke night. The talent on Wednesday nights! Pretty much everyone who sang deserved to be on national TV including our friend who got us to come out. We ordered drinks and food (did a little more drinking than eating this night). Everything was pretty good. I didn't care for the taco salad (beef was a little dry) but the po boy was interesting (very fried but also very flavorful) and the mac and cheese was my favorite out of everything. I also appreciate any restaurant/bar that has sweet potato fries so this place gets a bonus point for that. The bartender asked us a handful of times if she could take away our plates when we were still eating. She seemed in a huge rush to clear the. Other times we would make eye contact to order another drink and she would totally avoid. It was a little uncomfortable. Really disappointing. Didn't like it the first time but figured we'd give it a second try because we live close by. Bad both times. The sandwiches are just eh. Fried are eh. The goat cheese balls are good but that's about it. The nachos are disappointing. The music is awkwardly loud where you have to scream at the person sitting across from you to talk to them or you can just stare at each other. I would recommend avoiding this place. Came to the Walrus based on a referral from our hotel and, although not completely disappointing, in my opinion it wasn't worth the 4-star average it enjoyed on Yelp at the time of our visit. The food is pretty good, but not great. We did really enjoy the lobster pierogies appetizer (they were excellent), but the bourbon buffalo and the garlic Parmesan baked wings were most decidedly average (our table of 4 didn't even finish the order of 10 wings). For my entree, I had the blackened cod fish tacos daily special, which were uninspired--they weren't bad, but lacked any notable flavor. For being "blackened", the fish had zero heat to it. Meanwhile, if you are dining with a group and looking forward to a dinner conversation, the Walrus is not your place. The music pumped into the dining area is seemingly at a dance club volume level, so much so that our foursome could barely carry a conversation--there were an inordinate number of "what", "huh" and "excuse me" questions interrupting the flow of the conversation throughout dinner. Also, the booth that we were seated in was in dire need of new padding and upholstery. My friends and I went here which was a high recommendation from one of them who tends to go there with work pals when they have events downtown. The server was tremendous, was super nice and welcoming. I ordered the Shrimp Po'Boy which came with fries. The fries were really good, but the Shrimp Po'Boy was ok. I think the sandwich was lacking shrimp, there were 4 great piece on there but a few more would have been appreciated. Felt like most of my bites of the sandwich was slaw and sauce. I've been to The Walrus about 4 times now-- I was surprised to see that I haven't written a review yet. I feel that the first time I would have rated 5 stars, then 4 stars on my 2nd and 3rd visit, but after visiting this last time, I'm thinking 3 is fair. I'll go with 4 to average it out. On entering, it's a pretty standard-looking but long restaurant shape, with tables in the front and a bar in the back. They have a small patio out front, which is where I ate on my first visit. Parking can be a bit sparse on the weekends, but you can generally find a spot somewhere in the vicinity. The food is decent, with one of their best staples being the lobster pierogis. I generally enjoy those, but the name really doesn't explain what they are. It's more like 3 large fried ravioli in a corn/lobster chowder. If you order those, get fries to dip in your extra chowder. I'll detail the rest of my most recent experience below. The Walrus salad we ordered was 'fine', but it featured sliced apples that were neither fresh nor dehydrated-- they were sort of in the middle. Not great. The baked wings we ordered were actually pretty gross to me. They weren't cooked enough and had absolutely no crispiness to them, the skin was pretty much wiggly, for lack of a better description. Service was ok. After we ordered food there were no issues, but it took them a really long time to bring out menus and drinks before that, and we were a decent sized party-- you'd think it would be worth the attention. The only thing I can think of is that they were distracted with hosting a company holiday party happening in the bar area-- this also made it extremely loud and difficult to navigate to the bathroom. This restaurant is not set up for private events happening in conjunction with regular dining. They really shouldn't take large reservations like that without closing down the restaurant to outsiders, because it impacted our experience a lot. The best part of this last visit was the Honey in the Bank cocktail that I ordered. It was a lavender and bourbon concoction, and you could really taste all ingredients clearly. Someone at my table really enjoyed the Hot Pastrami sandwich, so I'll include that, but I didn't taste it. The fries are also pretty good. I would definitely go back for drinks and food during late night if in the area because it's better than many of the other late night food options, but I probably wont make a point to head back extremely soon. read more

Had a birthday dinner here with a party of 7. Since we had a reservation we were seated immediately. The waiter, a former flight attendant, was upbeat and friendly. He really set the pace for a fun evening. The food was all top notch, however the hummus appetizer was lackluster. It was boring, just carrot sticks, celery sticks, and a few pieces of pita bread. The short rib dinner was a hit - a huge portion that would make us come back for more. The goat cheese ball appetizer was also a treat - a nice change from mozzarella. I made reservations for 8 @5p to celebrate my birthday with coworkers. It was Tuesday Trivia, Happy Hour. We took advantage of the HH specials with the Tres Generaciones Anejo Tequila for$7. Pretty good deal. I also ordered the nachos with no Pico and it was extremely flavorLESS but it was good enough to eat. The tacos were bland as well. 2 of my coworkers were leaving earlier but other were staying to cont celebrating and we were still waiting on food and drink orders. The waiter seemed overwhelmed and kind of rushing as with each order and when the 2 people that were leaving requested their checks, he brought everyone's checks. My friend thoroughly explained to him we were still staying as we intended and actually planned to play trivia as they host every Tuesday. I'm not sure what the miscommunication was but shortly after, the "manager " Candice came to our table to tell us she had a reservation for our particular table for a party of 12 and needed the table. My friend explained to her we made reservations as well and we were still ordering and waiting for orders. She walked away and my friend requested a to speak with the GM and it they sent Candice back over who claimed to be the manager. We explained to her that we were highly offended and obviously felt uncomfortable staying any longer as we were basically told to wrap up and leave. Her excuse was she was told we were done but not once in her conversation did she offer an apology or own her part. She interrupted is while trying to reply to her and basically cont. to make excuse. We told her we just wanted to cancel the orders and cashed out. It wasn't until then she offered a round of shots, we declined. She then offered gift cards, we declined especially because we'd rather not even come back at all and we'd already paid our bills. She came over and gave us the gift cards anyway and offered an apology on our way out. We decided We wanted to get rid of the gc so we wouldn't have to come back so we went to the bar. Candace came to the bar to take our order and told us to keep the gift cards. At this point we just kept them. I won't bother going back at all so I'll gift them to someone with a warning. The staff also had good knowledge of the beer and didn't hesitate on recommendations once you described what you like. Food was decent. I ordered wings because it was during NFL final week. Holy goat cheese balls! Let's start there. The goat cheese balls are simply amazing! They are nice and crispy on the outside and super warm and creamy on the inside! SO SO SO good! I will continuously return just for those goat cheese balls. My stepson and I stopped in around dinner time a couple Thursdays ago. Sadly, the restaurant was empty which made me feel bad for the employees. I hope that it's not always like that. You can't take away my goat cheese balls! Lol. I liked that the place was decorated for Halloween. There are plenty of TVs for entertainment purposes. While my stepson was enjoying Steve Wilkos, I was enjoying the 90s music playing in the background. My stepson ordered the breaded chicken sandwich and I ordered the shrimp po boy. Both were cooked to perfection. My stepson devoured his chicken sandwich before I even took the first bite into my shrimp po boys. (Yes, I was busy taking foodie pics). Both sandwiches were super busy, but super delish. The coleslaw and Thai sauce on my shrimp boy totally made the entire sandwich! It was amazing!
