Food is good, view is very pretty. Service is trash. Everyone looks like they hate their lives & no one smiles or says anything pleasant. Management should invest in bussers so the hosts don't have to run around cleaning tables & can focus on being an ambassador for the restaurant & offer a pleasant tone from the start. From the servers to the hosts to the bussers, zero pep in their step or care for any sort of urgency. While we were in no rush, we were still there for almost two + hours waiting 30 minutes in between every interaction with our server and staring at dirty tables being walked passed. This restaurant is located on the seventh floor of the restoration Hotel downtown Charleston. Beautifully decorated for Christmas, special menu for Christmas dinner. May I mention the outstanding prime rib that I had! All the servers were the festive mood everybody's very happy to be there even though they're working on Christmas Day the food was great. I had the shrimp tacos (served in a flour tortilla that had hardened by the time it arrived), a side salad, truffle fries, a glass of chardonnay, and the strawberry lemon spritz. The most frustrating part was the misleading service--when I ordered, the server asked "what side would you like?" indicating the tacos came with with a side, even pointing out other entrees that also came with sides but the menu just didn't show it. I later found out I was charged extra for the salad I didn't even want. Drinks took over 25 minutes to arrive, despite it being a quiet Tuesday at 2 p.m. Overall, great atmosphere--but the food and service didn't live up to the setting. read more

A great place to grab pre-dinner drinks and see the sunset. Amazing indoor and outdoor seating. There's no bad view. The staff at the hotel were friendly and showed us where to go. Elevator in the back of the outdoor lobby takes you right up to the 7th floor where the bar is located. Very expensive drinks unfortunately. Be prepared to spend $20 on a cocktail. Came here for Sunday brunch with friends. Was excited to enjoy brunch on the rooftop. Where we arrived, it took a while for the hostess to arrive. Seems like they were short staffed cause she didn't greet us but sat a party that arrived before us. Luckily about 7-10min later, we were able to ask for a table. We were sat outside and after about 10 more min our waiter came (was just informed that we were his table). Alex was our waiter and he was great. We actually moved to the other side because it was cold and breezy and the other side was a lot warmer. I'm glad we could do that without any hassle. We ordered our food, and everything came out as ordered. I got the breakfast, and it was okay. The eggs were bland and the grits tasted like they had been overcooked and sat out. I could still taste the flavor but unfortunately the texture deterred me from really enjoying. We also ordered the bread pudding French toast but unfortunately it was just French toast. We were a bit disappointed about that. Also, the pancakes were a little too crispy on the edges, but it was okay. Overall, Alex made it a bit better of an experience. I'd be willing to try this place again, maybe for dinner. Recommend they make sure the hostess recognize people as they arrive as there were plenty of times that the stand was unattended to the point that I saw people leave. read more

Ok just to give you an idea, my daughter turns 17 in December and she wanted to come to Charleston for her birthday for the weekend. We are here Friday to Sunday and BOTH nights she wanted to come to The Watch rooftop. We love this so much. Last night we came and while the food was great, the server was just "ok". While we were there we saw this lady (named Jenn) who we said "when we come back tomorrow we should ask for her specifically". She was so happy and so kind to the people. When we came back tonight we got her and wow. She is over the top. Her name is Jenn and we absolutely love her. We will be asking for her EACH AND EVERY TIME that we come. She was so sweet to my daughter and her two friends. And she gave her an apple pie desert for her birthday. WE LOVE THE WATCH!!!!! Thank you for being so good to us!!! read more

An unpretentious rooftop gem just a few blocks away from the Francis Marion Hotel was exactly what I needed after a long drive from Raleigh. Excellent colada starter with a comfort of béchamel macaroni and cheese topped with fried chicken. Yummy. Our server was a spunky and charming gal who I immediately felt a kinship with as we commiserated the sweltering heat. She gave me a great tip about a cooling neck bandana and even provided me with a ziploc bag for my carry out since I didn't prefer the precariousness of walking the blocks with a folding takeout box. Sat outside for a late lunch in the 95F temperature. Carafe of water with glasses full of ice were served and that is all we saw of the ice again. Our salad was served less any dressing. So we had to wait until the server returned to the table next to us. The salad was replaced with a properly prepared salad and it was very very good. My ravioli was served in a bowl and covered with a nice sauce, but, it was not cook al dente. However the dish was very good. No bread or salt and pepper was offered. He had great recommendations and was so friendly. They only had one bartender on a busy Friday, so the drinks took a while and came out the same time our food did. It's not the bartenders fault, they were working hard that day, and the restaurant just needed more staff behind the bar. I wanted to order an Apricot Spritz, their version of an Aperol Spritz, but they couldn't make it, so I ordered the Orange Basil Sunset. Like most of their cocktails, it's a nice drink for brunch, but I didn't love it (and I really like bourbon). For food, my friend and I shared the crispy buffalo brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tasted delicious, a little sweet and a little spicy, little did we know they would wreak havoc on our stomachs 4 hours later. I'm not saying it was the brussel sprouts, but it was the only thing we both ate, so be careful. For lunch with a view I've been wanting to try "The Watch" at the Restoration Hotel on Wentworth Street. Got off to a great start with a cup of freshly brewed coffee before ordering lunch. Spencer was a welcoming server and was friendly and attentive. I could not make up my mind as to what to order so I just ordered the tomato soup, a Caesar salad and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. With great views of the city from the 7th floor of the Restoration Hotel I loved the fact that you had a panoramic view of Patriots Point across the river in Mt Pleasant. You will not be at a loss for noticing all the church steeples in the city also ~ "is that why Charleston is nicknamed "the Holy City?" ~ so give a count while you are dining at The Watch if you'd like! we made thanksgiving reservations 4 weeks ago and confirmed twice. We were 15 minutes early and they told us we had to eat outside on the patio- the temperature was 57 and wind was blowing . the heaters were inadequate for the temperature and wind. we planned on a 2 hour dinner relaxing and enjoying thanksgiving- because of the cold windy climate we were done in 35 minutes . the bill was $466.00 . the food was good and waitress was fine . Not eating in the dining room as we expected was horrible. we came from charleston wv to have thanksgiving dinner with our daughter and her husband. They live here and will tell others about this restaurants poor treatment we recieved. read more

I will say their drinks were fantastic- I may recommend purely coming for drinks. Food wise: fried green tomatoes were good. The burger was OK, nothing special. We decided to come here on Labor Day as we were looking for an outdoor location. The rooftop is absolutely beautiful. Especially when you're going around sunset to see the sky turning colors. We were seated quickly but the service quickly went down hill after that. Our waiter was slow to take our order and bring our drinks. We asked for espresso Martinis since I didn't see it on the menu. He stated they were great but I'm pretty sure we received one of the drinks on the menu containing orange juice. We weren't able to finish it. We ordered the fried green tomatoes which were really good. We ordered salads for our entrees. The Caesar salad was average and just had a lot of dressing.
