Tried for the first time on a Friday night, waited longer than expected but, please believe me when I say the wait was well worth it. I ordered the fried whiting with brown rice and cabbage, along with cornbread & sweet potato fries. My girlfriend had their Oxtails with brown rice, collard greens & cornbread. Have tried them twice already and love their service. Since most dishes are made to order you should call in advance and when you arrive the food will be ready for pick up. Due to Covid precautions, my mom (our master chef) couldn't join us for Thanksgiving this year, so my sister and I decided to have dinner catered. I found this spot on yelp and the reviews were great so I decided to use it. Monique answered every text and they were able to customize the dishes for me (I HATE onions). We ordered smothered turkey wings, jerk chicken, roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, stuffing, macaroni salad, greens, rice, yams and 2 desserts. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!! My husband is a huge food snob and even he was impressed. It was 10 of us in all, and we ordered half pans of everything (except mac and cheese of course - went with a full pan of that), and there was plenty of food throughout the weekend. For 3 adults and 1 voracious toddler, we ordered the following items: fish and grits entree (with cheesy scrambled eggs) shrimp and grits entree (with 2 eggs, over medium) corned beef hash entree (again with cheesy scrambled eggs)cheesy grits (side) maduros (side) turkey bacon (side) pancakes (egg-allergy friendly, with beef sausage links) crab hash (side (A++) buttered toast (side) Drinks: Sweet tea Iced tea Coffee Needless to say, we really threw down and the food was delicious at a great price (under $70 for our breakfast feast, entrees were about $11). The restroom was clean and the waitstaff was attentive. Mo, the proprietor, even came out introduced herself to us. I definitely will be returning to this spot. Here's my review of The Weekend Spot. Keep in mind, the three stars are not so much for the food but for the prep time. The good: Most of the food was delicious and it arrived hot! Not too salty or spicy. I especially loved the pollo guisado, which is kind of a stewed chicken with carrots and potatoes. The beef empanadas are the bomb! The baked mac & cheese was good. Everyone loved the fried whiting. The sweet tea arrived in large tumblers which is great for the price. Most restaurants in the area charge $3 for a 10 oz. can of soda. The bad: I had ordered cabbage but got green beans with garlic. I am not a fan of green beans. I wish they had contacted me or Uber to let me know they were out. I understand they were busy so I am not going to sweat it too much. The hoppin' john had no seasoning and the rice clumped together. The tea wasn't very sweet and the cornbread was regular cornbread, not the soul food cornbread I am used to (spongey and sweet), but the plantains made up for everything. The ugly: Now, I know restaurants get busy, but things need to be taken into account when you are running a restaurant business. I ordered through Uber Eats so it tracks my order in real time. I ordered at 7:32pm. I expected the order to arrive around 8:20pm according to Uber Eats. The closer to the delivery time it got, the more the time of arrival inched up. When the delivery time went to about 8:32pm I called the restaurant to see what was up. The lady that answered said my order was almost done and that the restaurant just got busy. It sounded loud in the background so I didn't press it. I had to call again near 9pm because the delivery time kept inching up. She said it was almost done again. At least she wasn't unpleasant about it - that's a good thing! My delivery guy was there, so it was not Uber. The delivery time finally jumped to 9:28pm and left around 9:33pm. Then the guy got lost despite my detailed directions so the order wasn't delivered until around 9:40pm. For a $50 order, I need my food in a reasonable time. I will say we were happy when the food arrived, but I contemplated canceling my order. I am glad I didn't but I have learned my lesson. This is a spot you need to go to in order to get your food on time. The food was good, don't get me wrong. You will like it a lot, but go to the physical place or you'll be waiting two hours. read more

Everything was well packaged, the only thing was the juice from the greens spilled over into the other compartments in the food container, but that's unfortunately what happens with collard green juice no matter what, lol. My only complaint was the wait, my husband and I ordered and was told it would be a 45 minute wait. We live about 24 minutes away so we figured we had a enough time to wait a bit and then get on the road, but once we were there we waited an additional 45 minutes. As we were passing through NJ from a weekend road trip we got hungry. So we typed in black owned restaurant because my friends and I like to patronize our people and The Weekend Restaurant came up. My sister called to see if they have a table for six and she said the lady was super nice and welcoming over the phone and it was a BYOB. When we got there they were just opening for their lunch menu. The waitress greeted us with a big smile and welcomed us in to seat us. She was extremely nice and even the owner came out to greet us which was really nice. The service was phenomenal the waitress was super nice and patient with us the whole time. There was a bit of wait time for the food but when our food came that was DELICIOUS!!! Nice presentation, hot, great portions and we got cornbread on the side which was amazing!!! It was so delicious when we were finish eating we ordered food to go!!! One day I phoned in three orders, on the same day, all at the same time. I went to pick up my orders 15-20 minutes later & it still was not ready, no problem. I waited for 10-12 minutes & the orders was finally ready. I asked for one of the three orders to be placed separately in a different bag & that's when the guy cashier looked in all 3 containers (multiple times) and noticed that two of the orders was the same, in which it should not have been. He then notifies the cooks, and the cooks reply was " well the porgy is reserved for a later order". So now I'm standing there looking like y'all really was going to sell me whiting in place of porgy instead of what I asked for, smfh! Someone could have easily communicated this in advance. Had I not asked for separate bags then I would not have known until I was long gone away from the store. Also, when the cashier was checking the orders, he kept leaving one order completely opened/exposed, and when I told him to close the container due to him keep breathing on my food, he catches an attitude like I said something wrong. Then the female owner comes out to do the price adjustment, and says "sorry, she should have told them about the porgy" (basically she knew ahead of time). Hands down they have the best banana pudding around. I'm a huge critic of banana pudding since it's by far my favorite desert. The serving has the correct ratio of bananas, wafers, and pudding.
