Stopped in here for some dessert after having an enjoyable dinner at the Keswick Tavern .. place reminds me of an old fashioned ice cream parlor which I love .. I initially ordered two items on the menu which neither were available. Was a little disappointed but the sundae I did get was ok. Nice place for families especially with little ones. The dark haired worker who may have been the family member of the owners was very rude to the other worker there... ordering her around and slamming the ice cream fridge door and the way she talked to her in front of customers was uncalled for and absolutely horrible . I'm all about work quality but she was totally wrong. One time here was enough for us as we don't like hostile atmospheres. read more

So much potential. Don't be fooled by it's cute old fashioned style. I got a Root Beer Float. It's mixed on the spot in that old 50s way. The soda flavor was bland, and the soda water had a bad after taste. My ice cream was crystallized rather than creamy. My husband got the waffle sundae. The waffle was hard. About halfway through my less the par ice cream float, I took the lid off only to look and see a dead bug floating on top. We were just traveling through the area, and stopped in for a sweet treat. Our first experience was great about 1 year ago. We went for the second time and my daughter asked for a brownie sundae, and was given 2 bite size pieces of brownie that was microwaved to burning hot and her sundae did not come with whip cream. Went to Weldon a while back and it was a horrible experience. Let me tell you exactly why this place deserves the 1 star rating I have given it. Me and my girlfriend had seen the signs for the place before it was open, and we couldn't have been more excited. I love milkshakes, my girlfriend loves ice cream sodas, and we live in the area. This place had so many future visits in store from us, but the service, prices, and sorry excuse for good shakes and ice cream sodas have just made it a charming idea only, and not a place that we'll spend our money. I got a milkshake, it was 5-6 bucks, and in a plain plastic cup. It wasn't thick, it was watery, and honestly, I thought I'd have the option to get it in a classic metal cup. I feel like I could have gone to Friendly's and paid less, and gotten twice the experience I got from this place. No "for her"e or "to go", just oh here's a non labeled plastic cup. The best part?? It somehow wasn't even cold! My girlfriend got a chocolate ice cream soda. Which wasn't cold either. Also, before the kid behind the counter even made it, she had to ask the other girl how to make it. What? I'll chalk it up to this being a new place, but everyone should know how to make what's in the menu, and if not, have the people who know how to do it make it, then train the other employees how to make it later. It was pretty much warm chocolate seltzer. The kicker, was the next customer literally asked the manager (some guy behind the counter not in a uniform), if she could have her float colder Me and my girlfriend want to try this place again, but we also don't want to waste $10-15 on stuff that we can get somewhere else that is not only better, but we can get it faster, and colder. I'm glad I waited s bit to write my review, as other have had bad or meh experiences and hope changes are made. I was thrilled to hear of the concept in Glenside, Pa. So I took my 9 year old son for what I hoped would be a sit down at a bar type of experience. Well, the location is small and while they have a bar to sit at, seating is very limited to four or five seats. They offer a number of options from soda's, sundae's, malts and ice cream. Oh, I should not forget home made ice cream sandwich. There is about a dozen or so options for ice cream and all can be made into malts. There are numerous options for hand made soda's as well. Some options for sundaes you can order. I ordered a straight up chocolate malt. That is the true mark of a soda fountain. It needs to be awesome. Mine was average. I found chunks of malt on the bottom, that came up in the straw. It needed to be mixed better. I also like a thicker malt. It was good ice cream though. They need to perfect the milk shake or malt in my opinion to be a true soda fountain. My son went for ice cream. A double scoop of mint chocolate in a waffle cone. The ice cream was creamy and flavorful. Scoops are small sized, but it was plenty for him. The ice cream is good. So, I rate it as average and hoping changes can be made to improve some things. Service was slightly slow and they could be slightly more friendly. I will try the location again as they are still newly opened. read more

We have gone here 3 times now. Love the decor and have really been in need of an old school - soda fountain. That being said I think there is room for improvement. 1- don't use styrofoam cups 2- the ice cream is decent but not amazing. salted caramel is good. Mint chocolate chip is not as rich with flavor as it could be. The banana (monkey business) was average. Bottom of a cookie jar also average. Had a ice cream soda that was not cold enough. The egg cream was good. I like all the soda flavor options. I think there is tons of potential, some music would be nice to enhance the atmosphere. And again- get rid of the styrofoam. read more

Overall the place has a great atmosphere and vintage feel. I ordered the dairy-free coffee ice cream which did not have a good flavor and tasted "icy" with a slightly freezer burn flavor. I saw her struggling to scoop it so it was probably old. I told the young woman working, who was apologetic and I asked if I could try the other dairy-free option. She told me to throw away the scoop I had and she'd get me the other one. She scooped it for me and when I went to get it she said she'd have to charge me for it because her boss told her to. I explained to her I was surprised because the ice cream tasted like freezer burn. She said the new flavor was "fresh" from a new container. So nearly $10 later I got a scoop that was better (not great,) but better. I would not return if they are knowingly selling not so fresh ice cream and then charging a customer a second time for a poor product. After careful deliberation I chose a waffle cone with Bottom of the Cookie Jar and Espresso Crunch ice creams. The girl helping us was full of great recommendations and friendly. The inside decor is sugar-coated vintage, which feels right for the neighborhood. One of a handful of awesome eateries to wake up this sleepy village. Will definitely come back! read more

Visited recently and had a pretty meh experience. Service: the ordering line was fast. The kids making our malted shake and float were not. They were distracted by their music selection and socializing with friends. I don't expect teenagers making minimum wage to be perfect robots--it's just an ice cream place after all, but we definitely waited longer than necessary. Which wouldn't have been a big deal, except that the float my wife got was the absolute lousiest I've ever seen. Warm root beer. Half full. Melted creamy foam that used to be ice cream. It was completely worthless. And for more than 5 bucks, it should have been much, much better. My malted shake was okay, but sweeter than I'd like. Just my personal preference. It's a serviceable little place that might have some good offerings, but the float was bad enough that we probably won't risk it again. read more

The girl behind the counter must have really wanted to get home so she can go hang out with her friends because she would rather treat a customer rudely than do her job. By far the best place for ice cream in Glenside. The ice cream is always fresh and delicious. I particularly love the tiramisu and most of the "flavor of the week" (peach cobbler and blueberry crisp were two recents). There is a small seating area indoors and out. They also have a small selection of old fashioned candy at very reasonable prices. The soda is also pretty good, but would enjoy it if they get a bit more sophisticated and branch out into the craft soda world instead of adding syrup to seltzer. read more

First--not sure what all the hate is about "ripping off" Franklin Fountain. If you want to drive all the way into Philly, park there, and pay double for your ice cream--feel free. I think this is a great addition, and a great location. The 4 mini scoops for $4 is a great idea. They have some interesting flavors--unfortunately, the Bottom of the Cookie Jar was out. I will definitely be back to try more flavors, a home made ice cream sandwich, and a milk shake. I hope when I return that there is more than ONE person working. One person on staff on a 72* March day--bad, bad planning. And it might be nice if the management learned how to spell--kind of embarrassing when 2 or 3 of your flavors listed on the ice cream board aren't even spelled right. This place is one of my all time favorite ice cream places to go. Everything they make at the store is absolute top notch including the ice cream, milkshakes and many other frozen treats they offer.
