This was a first time experience at this restaurant. I made a reservation which probably wasn't necessary for this particular evening as there were available tables when we arrived. But, I would say a Friday or Saturday you should consider. The view at the top was very cool with views of the water as well as the island! We had cocktails as well as a couple of appetizers (chicken lollipops & the charcuterie board). The chicken was excellent as it has a crunchy exterior with the meat being moist & tender. The charcuterie board was a variety of meats, cheeses, nuts & fruit. Presented nicely and all the items were fresh & flavorful. The cocktails were good but unfortunately they didn't have tonic when we were there so had to pivot to another beverage but all was good! If you've never been check it out you'll have a fun time! read more

The grits were inedible because of salt, the bloody Mary tasted of Worcestershire sauce, the mimosa was made with fake cranberry, the collards were flaky, the pimento cheese made the omelet too salty...the only good food was the brioche toast. The rooftop is a wonderful place to experience on St Simons. The sunset views are post card worthy! The bartenders were very friendly and accommodating to our large party who were there to support a local musician. Unfortunately, we didn't order food but I've heard it's delicious. As a native of St Simons Island, it is nice to have a place like this to recommend to friends and family who are visiting. read more

Totally disorganized management so you have no idea when you show up if you will be seated or where. Event reservations are not honored nor are walk-ins as advertised. Food is slow and mediocre with promising dishes but slightly off with seasoning, ingredients and techniques. What a waste of a potentially successful venue if experienced management were hired Money in creates money out. read more

The food was delicious! We order the shrimp and grits and the pecan crusted redfish. However, we did wait an hour for both dishes even though we did have reservations. Our waitress was extremely kind and considerate. We chose this restaurant expecting a dreamy ambiance, but the live band that was overpowering the atmosphere. read more

One star is fair. Didn't get to experience the food as the "server/host" guy was so nasty. After one lovely lady told us to have a seat and she'd be with us shortly, this other guy said, "so sorry but you'll have to leave. I have this one reserved." They won't have to worry about saving a table for us in the future. Menu was also pathetically limited. So many amazing dining spots in SSI, so I'd recommend looking elsewhere unless you're staying at Ocean Lodge. read more

After a slight delay in securing the venue for a small Birthday celebration, what I ultimately received after extensive communications with Amy, who was so very helpful, was an EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCE where every detail was as I requested, the food was succulent and oh so good, and the staff was accommodating beyond what I imagined. Chef Matt allowed for a food tasting and totally delivered in cooking the salmon and steak to perfection, my guest raved about the food!! The bartender, whose name escapes me, made certain that EVERY drink was precisely made to order, and I believe he had as much fun servicing my guest as they did in partaking of the variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages that were made available to us. And Stevie Anderson, what more can I say than he was so very pleasant and accommodating and made the entire experience stress-free and most enjoyable. THE VENUE, THE ROOFTOP was simply grand!!! It overlooked beach homes/the beach, the weather was perfect, the music was comforting, and the overall ambience was all that and more. We all departed very happy after having an intimate and beautiful evening which had everything to do with the exceptional service rendered by the Oceanlodge Resort staff. There is a fabulous new chef Matt Schleis, that is preparing delicious food on the rooftop! It's a beautiful view with island breezes, and one of only a few restaurants that have one. The wait staff and bartender are so nice and very accommodating. This place needs to be more well known! read more

This place is great! I think they really had good drinks and the view is totally worth it.

Come during golden hour and sunset time. The views are worth it. The type of menu they offer isn't revolutionary or anything, but we enjoyed everything we ordered. What made the place special were the staff. Alex the bartender, Munzi our hostess, and our waitress was a complete darling as well(I want to say her name was Rachel... I'm so sorry) went above and beyond to make our evening one to remember. The drinks are made with EXTRA love and for a rooftop restaurant, they don't tack on extra charges for the views. Highly recommend for a nice evening in St. Simon's. read more

Wish I came during the day but it still was beautiful. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience. I would come back but only I'm town for a weekend and would like to visit other establishments. Tiffany was an awesome bartender. Her self designed drink called the Lodge Colada was delicious; order it. It was dessert for dinner. Then Anna was a super kind waitress. Whoever gave her a hard time eariler that day should be ashamed of themselves. Please go visit this place. You won't regret it read more

They took out the pool so there is actually 2 rooftop bars with phenomenal views. Anyways, it is a worthy and unique experience. Great place for an event. Way underpriced. Great costal gem. We came to the Rooftop for dinner tonight and were not disappointed. They have a new chef, and a really great server team. We enjoyed our food and the view is killer! It is quiet and the prices are reasonable. We will be back because it is hard to find quiet restaurants in SSI with great food! If you're a Yelp friend of mine (or read my many reviews of Japan), you know I'm not one to give low ratings. I rate on expectation... What does Rooftop at Ocean Lodge advertise? And does it deliver? With the atmosphere and pricing, The Rooftop sets the bar high! You would expect a 5-star meal (our food was maybe 4-star at best). With an ocean view and the location, you expect a superb atmosphere. (This was on point). What ruins this place was the service. If it was a here or there mishap, you could overlook it, but this service was horrid from the start. #1. We had a 7 o'clock reservation. We were seated (yes seated) at 7:45! #2 Our drinks while waiting for our table arrived at about 7:40 (and Chardonnay is NOT Sauvignon Blanc). #3, 4 & 5: Food took forever to arrive. Our drinks were not refilled. My mom's birthday treat took about 30 minutes. Overall, we were there over 3 hours, but it wasn't by choice. I hope this was an isolated incident due to the holiday, but reading other Yelp reviews, I don't think so. Positives: lobster Mac and Cheese & the filet mignon were delicious. Veal bucco - so, so. Fried green tomato appetizer was yum! Truthfully, this was the worst dining experience my husband and I have ever had (and we go out a lot... But not often in America, so maybe I'm being too critical???) and it was not easy on the wallet. Rooftop needs to step it up a bit and make it worth it to drop the dollars. With such a great location and high prices, they can't afford poor service because believe me, people will stop going. (I won't be back). read more

We stayed at the hotel and came here for drinks, appetizers and/or dinner each evening. The staff was super-friendly and the service was very good. We had visited in early May but the restaurant wasn't open yet. I'm so glad we were able to come back to experience it! We sampled quite a few items off the tapas menu and entrees, as well as cocktails! Honestly, everything was fabulous and we overheard other customers saying the same. Highlights were the blackened scallops. We had them as an appetizer, but they are also served as an entree. Be sure to ask for toast points to sop up that SUPER-YUMMY butter sauce. I had the shrimp scampi which was flavorful and the shrimp was cooked perfectly! Overall the restaurant and bar were a great experience for us during our stay and made our nights! read more

The only reason that I selected 2 star is because I had to. This place provides the worse service I have ever seen. We waited a hour and a half at the table and the waitress did not even bring our drinks and the staff members didn't seem to care too much either. Perfect place to dine for your last evening on St Simons Island. The gorgeous tablescape photo accurately captures the romantic exotic feel of this dining experience. The menu is all about the appetizers and luckily this is a place where the yelp free appetizer (w/ 2 dinners) offer is met with no resistance or hassle. Future hubs and I were torn on all the great app options so we narrowed it down to three: Mussels Mcdonaugh, Fried Green Tomato & Crabcake Napoleon and the Shrimp Spectacular. All three were quite divine but my favorite had to be the mussels. The wine broth served with the mussels was so rich, buttery and intoxicating I wanted to drink the bowl but settled for dipping my bread. I suppose refraining from drinking the broth was a good call because the owner made the rounds around the time I was doing my bread dunk lol. The Fried Green Tomato & Crabcake appetizer was easily the prettiest most colorful dish. Getting the right amount of each component on your fork was the most exquisite reward for your palate. The shrimp are also yummy though not as unique in flavor or presentation. For dinner we each went for the braised short rib though we differed on sides. I selected collard greens (sweet & vinegary, I prefer a more smokey savory flavor) and mashed potatoes (creamy, cheesy goodness) and he went with grits (flavorless) and a potato dauphinoise (bland, we were warned by the waitress). The only side winner for me was the mashed potatoes. The short rib itself was fork tender and very lean. I'm not sure if the weird sauce from my greens changed the flavor of my meat but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. We agreed on an apple tort for dessert and we loved what tasted to be a homemade vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream. The tort itself was good but I'm not sure that it was made from scratch as implied on the menu. The staff is very friendly & accommodating. We arrived a bit early and they seated us right away at a high top with a good ocean view. I don't like high tops so I asked to be moved. Later we heard other guests say they dined at Rooftop the night before at a high top on the side balcony and it got very buggy. We also met the friendly hostess, Angie working at Wine, Body & Soul and we were happy to see her the next day at Rooftop. This place does have a beautiful view; however, it's not on the beach, but it's high enough where you can see the ocean and hear the waves. Even in January, it was nice enough to sit outside with a heater. It was a slow night and the hostess was also our server, but you definitely pay for the view not the food. We had mussels as our app, and they were very small, and there were quite a few empty shells in there. We tried to get a bottle of champagne to celebrate my birthday, but the only option was a $95 bottle, which seemed a little ludicrous when you're only paying $30 for your entree. For our meals, we had the grouper and scallops...... both were very overcooked, so we didn't finish it. Maybe it was because it was the off season, but the food wasn't worth the price, but I'm glad got the experience. read more

Showed up early, just after 7, for a Sunday outdoor reservation and were seated immediately, 1 of only 2 good things that happened during our very long visit. There were multiple empty tables when we arrived, at no point were all tables filled, and very few customers were indoors. Once seated, our waitress greeted us, delivered glasses of water and took our drink orders in a reasonable time. As she delivered our drinks: sodas, beers, and wine, she informed us of the specials - low country boil as the entree, baked beans and Cole slaw as the sides (with entree costs of $25-30). She advised Mahi was the catch of the day but did not know the market price for it. As we joked with her for saying '20, 30 dollars ', another waiter overheard and was able to provide us with that answer. She also advised that 3 menu items had already sold out for the evening. She didn't inquire about appetizers, but gave excess time (15 minutes) to decide our meals. We placed our orders when she finally returned, discovering other items had sold out during our wait, and talked while we waited. 35 minutes into our wait salads arrived for those who had ordered them, they were tasty and gave us hope for a great meal. We watched a nearby table get seated, receive drinks, place orders, AND receive meals, before anyone at our table received a refill on long since emptied beer glasses or watered down & weather warmed soda. An hour into our wait, our conversation lagged, and after our near neighbors, who arrived after we ordered, received their meals, we flagged down our waitress, who advised due to the holiday (Memorial Day) they were very short staffed in the kitchen, that she'd been helping out in it; but, she would call down (the kitchen is on a lower floor of the building, food travels up a very slow elevator) to see how much longer it would be. She offered to refill my soda, but we had to call her, as she walked away, for refills on beer. She never offered or provided a refill for the person with wine, of wine or water. When our meals arrived with drastically different temperatures, those with cold food didn't want to complain and risk it taking another hour to get another. 4 orders: 1- the catch of the day, Mahi Mahi, blackened, to a customer who choose the sides of the day as her other choices had previously sold out. She, said the fish had no flavor, questioned if it had even been seasoned with the correct seasoning, the Cole slaw was ok, not anything special, the baked beans were clearly ungarnished, unaltered, canned baked beans. The food arrived warm but not hot. 2- the crab cakes, asparagus, and a salad, as her first choices had also already sold out for the evening. Her salad was tasty, spinach, almonds, etc; had given hope for a nice meal when it arrived much much earlier. The crab cakes were tasty; but, the mango salsa that was to accompany them was not present. She waited until her meal was cooled then began eating without it, by the time it arrived, she had finished her side and had slightly less than one cake left, which worked out as the salsa was delivered in a half filed 2oz plastic condiment cup. The food arrived warm but not hot. 3- grilled shrimp, asparagus, salad. Fairly basic house salad. The grilled shrimp were not local (a crime to not serve local shrimp in a shrimping community, especially at the prices), and were nearly cold, as was the asparagus. The shrimp were odd in that some were peeled but for the tail but some weren't at all. Both were bland, unseasoned, and a huge disappointment for the one who had ordered them, thinking to get local wild caught shrimp. The plate and portion size disappointed. 4- the Cioppini. This was the ONLY meal that arrived hot. It was also the only meal that was as tasty as one would expect from such a restaurant. Pasta with red sauce, mussels, calimari, shrimp, etc. It was more than enough food for 1 very hungry person. Starving, we quickly ate our food. We'd wanted dessert, but didn't want to spend another hour there. Total time: 2.5 hours. read more

If you're looking for a nice spot to hang out with friends and family while enjoying some amazing views then this is the place for you! I would describe the menu as heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. The food was absolutely amazing though and so was the cocktails. All the staff were incredibly helpful and super polite! We had an absolutely amazing time here and we will definitely be making a stop there next time we're in town! The only thing that I think they could do to improve is add a Sunday brunch. This would be the PERFECT spot for a Sunday brunch. I can already attest to how good the bloody Mary's are, so all they need is bottomless mimosas and they pretty much have everything required for a great brunch spot! read more

I was at this place last Saturday night and watched the band from Eastman called Midlife Chrysler. the band was half descent, but did not get much participation from the crowd. I think being in the roof top should be loud enough for people to hear it , but they need to improve their sound system. Talking about the restaurant itself , this place would be top rated in the West Coast. I found the place with real good ambience and sitting right by the Water is such inviting and o can't describe enough the Zen of this place. The food was not as remarkable, top of the line being in the Seafood place but the Chef put a lot of creativity on presenting their plate . Overall , I was very pleased.
