Our group had a fantastic dinner at Southern Tide at Sea Island this past week. The service was outstanding from start to finish, and the staff did an amazing job handling our lively "kids" table while making everyone feel welcome and taken care of. The cocktails were delicious, and every appetizer and entrée we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Highly recommend the calamari and the smashed avocado dip. For our entrees, the cavatappi was a favorite with blackened chicken added, as well as the fish special of the day. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance of a casual and relaxed beach evening, but still charming right at the beach club. Overall great food, excellent drinks, exceptional service, and a wonderful coastal vibe. We'll definitely be back when we're in town next! read more

In terms of location, Southern Tide is as good as any restaurant along the Georgia Coast. Sadly, however, this once consistent favorite of mine has declined significantly. The food has lost its' sense of innovation and at times just isn't very good. A secondary issue is that the staff changes with every visit, and you can feel the impact. Both of these issues are masked in large part by Sea Island's large number of hotel guests at the Cloister and also its' many members. In my opinion, this high volume of patrons has more to do with a lack of reasonable alternatives rather than the quality of the restaurant itself. In the end, I have the utmost faith in the Sea Island Company, and I believe they will hit the reset button in time. read more

The food was out of this world! We loved literally every dish we tried. The servers were great as well. I love that they have receipt request cards for you! We came in for dinner as part of a very large group. We had a cocktail hour first with servers coming through with appetizers. We had a set menu that consisted of a salad, an entree with a filet Mignon and crab cake with vegetables and a decadent triple layer chocolate cake. All very tasty. The servers did an amazing job. Whenever we stay at the Cloister, this is one of our favorite places to eat. Seating is available indoor and outdoor. We love sitting outside with the view of the beach. Service is always top notch and the food is fantastic! My husband loves burgers and sweats that the burgers here are the best. It was a perfect medium-rare, topped with pimento cheese, crispy fried green tomatoes, and bacon jam. Our order of Smashed Avocado Dip (guacamole) came with a large bowl of warm chips and slices of watermelon radish. I ordered the pea tendrils salad with goat cheese and blackened shrimp. This is a restaurant inside the Beach Club at Sea Island Resort. We had spent some time at the pool & the beach and decided to eat before we went back to the main resort. The view of the beach while eating at this restaurant is amazing. It is also nice to see all the chefs working on your dish soon as you order as they have a partially open kitchen. Staffs are nice. No reservation needed for brunch. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays at the time of our stay Food is good and well prepared. Their servings are big. The kids menu offer a decent selection and a good size. The shrimp tacos was absolutely awesome!! One of the best we had by far. The a la diabla platter is basically shrimp and grits with a bonus of scallops. The shrimps were huge. The scallops were cooked well but was a bit pungent for my taste. Really good food. Took gluten free needs seriously. Beautiful atmosphere with ocean. Tuna poke was the best I have had. Family enjoyed their meals as well (shrimp and grits, chicken, muscles). Only reason I am not giving 5 stars here is that they need to have a solution for the flies. For this upscale restaurant you should not have to swat flies every 10 seconds from your food. First time eating here, as it was also my first time in Sea Island. We had reservations for outdoor seating, which were adhered to right away. Loved the open air, outdoor seating & view! However, the food was not all that great in my opinion, but I heard the fish tacos are great! I went with four other ladies for lunch around 1pm. To start off we had the pimento cheese deviled eggs...none of the ladies liked them as there was too much cheese on them. I am a cheese lover, therefore I didn't mind but I wish we had gone with the fried green tomatoes. The pimento cheese was all you could taste. Entree-wise, I went with the Caesar salad topped with salmon. I was very much looking forward to a homemade Caesar salad but found that the dressing was not homemade. I would've loved the anchovies puréed into a homemade dressing but not only was the dressing not homemade, the anchovies were whole and lying under my salmon, where they got warm and too fishy tasting. Loved the amount of shaved parm on the salad but it didn't taste freshly shaved but rather store bought &/or of not great quality. I will say the salmon was delicious. It was cooked to perfection & well seasoned. I'd give my meal a 2 but bc of the vibe, I'm giving it a 3. I'm thinking there are a couple of 4-5 star meals & apps on their menu, but unfortunately I didn't choose the right ones. read more

Drove all the way out here for lunch only to be turned away at the gate. You cannot eat here if you're not a resident or guest at one of the properties. The people at the gate were rude and made us feel very uncomfortable. The listing should have this vital piece of information. Never have we ever felt so disrespected. read more

This would be the best lunch spot at Sea Island, right by the beach club! We enjoyed cinco de Mayo dinner there and it was quite busy, but Miles took care of us well. Located on the beach side of the island. Comfortable environment with good service. Food was average. Cornbread to start was good. Biscuits a bit bland. Calamari was over breaded and standard fare. Gumbo was very good while the drum was a bit rubbery and tough. Cheesecake desert was ok not great. read more

The large tower offers a daunting task to complete even for two people. It's a dozen oysters on the half shell on top of a pound of king crab legs flanked by a pound of pleasantly pealed boiled shrimp. In there some where is a dandy bowl of pickled shrimp and fish in a remarkable sweet spicy vegetable mixture. Service is impeccable and the ocean view is not to be missed. read more

I'm giving it three stars because people going there know what they are in for, a resort restaurant that only resort guests can dine. The gumbo, as other reviews remarked was underwhelming at best, shreds of crabmeat and little else. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The host was very pleasant and our waitresses (one was in training) were great. The view of the beach was fantastic and the overall vibe was great. However, our food was some of the most disappointing I've ever had at a restaurant. We ordered the two specials, something you think the restaurant would want to capitalize on, a 10 oz New York strip and whitefish on pea purée. The steak (we initially ordered as medium rare but had to send back because it was so well done) was horribly chewy and had very little flavor. The fish was cooked well but had absolutely NO taste. I understand that the people who eat at this restaurant aren't worried about the cost, but a $110 bill for some crappy food is something that I will never do again. read more

Perfect lunch spot! This was my families favorite place to have lunch at The Cloister. Beautiful restaurant conveniently located in the hotel, with beautiful views of the ocean. Welcoming from the moment you walk in, with super friendly staff! We had the same server for each meal, Khalil, & he was so friendly and attentive. We chatted with him for a while each visit, and it was refreshing. My mom has a tendency to alter menu items and both Khalil and the chef were very accommodating. All the food was delicious. We didn't have a bad meal! The street corn & hushpuppies (with ranch) are a MUST, and great apps to share with the table. The shrimp and grits are amazing as well. I was so disappointed with my meal the other night. It could, with a little tweaking and imagination been so much better. Against my better judgment I ordered the most expensive entree which was the grouper on a bed of red peas and okra with basil oil. The grouper was perfectly cooked but had no flavor. It was sitting on a bed of brown mush. Where is the okra I asked the waitress? It's cooked in there she said. Well you certainly couldn't find it and if you are an okra lover like myself you don't like it cooked to death. The basil oil should have added color and taste but I had to put on my reading glasses to find the three minuscule drops. Nice servers and staff. Perhaps an anamoly but shockingly bad on food quality. The gumbo I ordered featured measly U70 shrimp, no crawfish, no crab cake, a small bit of something sausage-like. Literally like gumbo at Applebees. Other entrees at the table similarly disappointing. The pimento cheese (appetizer) was really good .But when we ordered the country fried chicken breast it was really over cooked .And the sides tasted okay . We ate here on our first night at the Cloister after being on the road all day. We wanted somewhere casual with great food, and since we were staying at the Beach Club, we decided to give this place a try. The service was top notch and staff was very accommodating and friendly. Cocktails were really good, and had strong pours. The calamari was really crispy and tasty. I wouldn't get the deviled eggs again....nothing special. The Tennessee Hot Chicken was phenomenal, and I'd order it a second time! Overall, great place with awesome views. read more
