I've been coming to The Wicked Oyster every year as part of our summer vacation tradition. The indoor atmosphere is steeped in history and old world character, while the food is contemporary and inventive. The Buttermilk Fried Calamari was so good I asked for a second order for the table. The grilled Romaine salad had a hint of smokiness from the grill and was highlighted nicely with a smoked tomato dressing. The spiced tuna sashimi was vibrant, fresh and wonderful. However it could have used two more slices of tuna to be perfect. The Clam Digger Flatbread Pizza had a great flavor profile but could have used another 2-3 minutes in the oven to crisp up the dough. They offer a great variety of specialty house cocktails, beer and wine. They also have a vast outdoor area to enjoy a meal. Went for dinner last night. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks, a dozen oysters and dinner. We never got our oysters! What a disappointment to go for oysters and not get them. Our dinners were good (sole and tuna). Probably will just stick with Mac's Shack. read more

The Wicked Oyster had for years been on our A-list of Cape Cod eateries. No more. In 2004 Ken Kozak and Eliza Fitts opened the restaurant, but due to the loss of their chef last year decided to sell the business to new owners Alex Hay, Garrett Smythe, and Sebastien Taffara. Judging by last night's meal, they have miles to go to recapture the Oyster's former luster. We started off by attempting to order coffee, but the waitress informed us half and half wasn't available, just oat milk and whole milk. We passed. I had no complaints with my appetizer of crab salad, but when the entree of sole arrived, I saw an abundance broccoli stalks in addition to a few florets. These stalks were tough, fibrous, and barely edible. My first thought was the management was trying to stretch precious resources, but it could have been sheer culinary incompetence. On the plus side, the service was fine, and the ambience of the outdoor dining area was enhanced by a jazz acoustic guitar-upright bass duo playing bossa nova tunes. An enormous disappointment from the service to the food. Do -any- of the staff smile? Or seem happy in any way? My group is uncertain. This was a highlight restaurant choice in years past, and we were so looking forward to it this year. The lazy lobster wasn't lazy. We had to DIG the lobster out. And it was overcooked. Two in our party reported that the chowder was watery (independent of each other, one didn't hear the other/didn't know they'd come to the same conclusion until we left and were reviewing our dinner experience). The gazpacho was weird. It had the consistency and taste of a pasta sauce. We said no thank you to desert. It is definitely off the list. Would not recommend at all. read more

The one star is for the hostess and our server, who were lovely. We were hungry after a long day of kayaking and just couldn't wait at Mac's ( we are Wellfleet regulars). I wish we had!! Wicked Oyster was fantastic years ago, so I ignored it. The first red flag should have been when I called and asked how long for a table-"right away" at 6p on a Saturday. Ugh. The lowlights: -Husband's first cocktail had no bourbon in it. Server agreed it was off and replaced with a visibly improved drink. -Calamari was flavorless. We were starving, dipped it in sauce and ate it. -6 cool-not-cold raw oysters- server saw me scraping up a paper thin oyster from the shell and offered to replace. 2 of them were like this, she brought out two slightly fatter oysters on a hot plate. Hm. -Husband had tuna entree, it was good. -My daughter and I each had the grilled halibut which was good (though quite salty), but 1/2 raw. Server brought it back to kitchen. My daughter's was cooked through, mine was aside from about and ounce, I didn't mention it. -2 flourless chocolate tortes were awful. Creme brulee was good. -My first cocktail was excellent. My second was cloudy and tasted like sour mix. I told the server, she told me it doesn't have sour mix in it, but then quickly asked if she could replace it. She did, tasted the same. I took a few sips so she wouldn't ask about it and left most of it. $280 for lackluster food, poorly made cocktails. We will stick with Mac's from here on! read more

Just had one of the best dinners I've had on the cape! My wife and I came in and sat down at the bar. Hannah was the bartender, she was very knowledgeable about the menu items and made fantastic cocktails. The cranberry Mojito was a big hit. Food wise the clam chowder is incredible, tuna sashimi is life changing. We had the risotto with scallops, and the seafood stew, both were fantastic. We wanted to drive up to Wellfleet to eat some oysters at the source. Looked at lots of Yelp reviews and chose the Wicked Oyster based on what we read. Totally happy with our choice. Great old building with wide plank floors. Comfortable but not stuffy. Our waitress was very nice - good energy but not overbearing. We had raw and broiled oysters for starters and both were very good but the broiled were better than very good. A touch of garlic butter made each sublime! My wife had the pan seared cod about which we had read previous reviews and she was thrilled with it. I had a halibut special which was outstanding. A bottle of Sancerre at a reasonable price was perfect with our apps and dinner. We were enjoying ourselves so much, we added a flourless chocolate cake dessert to the evening. All in all a really great experience. Our reservation was at 7:00 and it was pretty quiet when we arrived. By 8:30, the place was much busier but still not full (off-season). We've been coming to the WA for a few years while on vacation and are going to take it off our list for next year. After doing NYC-style competitive parking in their lot, the dining room was chaotic (maybe it was just a stuffy night with lots of loud-Harolds) to the point where we asked to be moved outside, when things got better. Food was good and prices a little better than some others in Wellfleet. Service was quite good. But bottom line, I'd rather wait at Mac's Shack or plan ahead for Winslow's. read more

This is my go to spot for gourmet fare during the pandemic. We celebrated my brother's birthday and it became his new favorite restaurant. The outside dining experience in the evening is lovely. Canvas coverage is artfully strung among the buildings and trees. The waitstaff is attentive and respectful. It's a rough negotiation for the staff over peastone. That being said, our server Justin was handsome and quite capable. I enjoyed the Lazy Lobster at $33.00 and my brother had the filet at $29.00. Top quality gourmet fare. We are absolute foodies and spend a lot of time in Wellfleet during the summer. The reason I give this 2 stars is that they are horrible with kids. It's to the point of awkward. Our kids are 5-7 and 13 and each time we have come in it was clearly obvious they were not the welcome part of the cliental - we were rushed through dinner each time. What's odd about this place is that even the best restaurants in town embrace family dining - spend your money at Mac's it's a better experience and better service ! read more

Great food but not worth it for the prices. My salmon was $26 and as you can see the portions were quite small. I also think for such high prices the service could have been better. Food quality alone is 5 but everything else just wasn't worth it for me. read more

Cute location, very kind and accommodating staff. The service was attentive. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't up to par, particularly for the price. I got the risotto with a lobster tail. If you know anything about risotto, you know that cooking it is basically an art form. It takes constant attention to achieve the correct consistency. Unfortunately, my risotto was watery and very undercooked. It therefore had no flavor and was crunchy instead of smooth and creamy. The lobster tail was tiny, and extremely overcooked to the point that it was almost hard to get a bite of. Very rubbery and completely tasteless. Not a bit of seasoning or butter on any of it. The risotto was supposed to be lemon butter risotto, but again, it was so watery (due to being very undercooked) that it had no flavor. My boyfriend got the same dish but short ribs, and in addition to the equally undercooked risotto for him, the meat it came with was also extremely over cooked and felt more like a dried out pot roast than a short rib. I ordered some calamari bc I was still hungry after not eating my dinner, but it was mostly the chewy rings and a few tentacles with a very sweet sauce that I personally just didn't like. Considering the many amazing options in Wellfleet, I'd probably skip this place for dinner. But it seems like a lovely place to grab a drink! read more

Went to this place on a Tuesday after Labor Day and it was a terrible experience and value. Our mains were such a bad meal, all four of them and very expensive. We would have complained but we didn't see our waiter from the time he delivered the meals till he bought the check. Look, we paid $220 for this meal and had to stop at Wellfleet market to grab a frozen pizza, a far better value. The night previously, we dined at nearby Winslow's Tavern, an outstanding dining experience and $25.00 a couple cheaper. It sucks to not only have a bad meal, but poor service and very expensive makes the pain far worse! Feeling totally screwed, plenty of places here to eat! read more

This is one fo the best places to visit if you want a good variety of seafood and more. This is not a place with basic seafood. It is made in different ways with different flavors and tastes. It is all fresh for the day. The chef and the team are excellent. The staff is very friendly and will work with you and answer any questions you might have. They will take their time. One thing is to make sure you have a reservation. During the summer it is one of the places to go for dinner and you need a reservation to make sure you can get in. We started with a Wedge Salad to start. Then we had Fresh Oysters. This was excellent and very fresh. For entree we had lobsters with rissoto. This was good and different. We also had chowder for a full meal. And we had pasta with a topping of chicken and fresh shrimp. The was nice and different. We also had a bottle of white wine (since it was all seafood). The prices was excellent. For where we were and what we had it is a good place to be. And make the reservation. It is worth the waste. read more

Our entrees were taking a little longer than normal but we didn't mind since we were on vacation but the bartender made notice of the delay and offered us dessert on the house. Great spot to visit when down the cape. The beautiful thing about cape cod is the access to incredible seafood about anywhere you go. Went here the week of 4th if Juky and overall good experience. Great appetizers and service- however somewhat disappointed with the entree size I order a close to $30 swordfish entree, only 8 ozs of fish a couple steak fries and a handful of what is "side salad" Overall tasty- but if I knew the fish was so small I would have looked for a couple more apps. read more

Very good dinner place. Classy and romantic atmosphere. Fresh garlic cloves that spread like butter on the pre-dinner bread. The bread its self is fresh and warm. I had salmon with gnocchi. Very very good. If I could change anything, it would be less olive oil on everything. From the garlic, to the beat salad, to the salmon. Everything was covered in oil. We were having dinner outside at the Wicked Oyster tonight. It was sunny when we were seated when suddenly in blew a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain and, GET THIS, they tried to put up extra umbrella's which had no effect in keeping us or our food dry AND they wouldn't let the 3 tables outside eat inside despite many empty tables because they were reserved! The extra umbrellas all blew down anyway because they tried to rig them on chairs! We left drenched mid-meal and they CHARGED US full price! I told them what happened and they said they can't control the weather! What they understand about hospitality is exactly nothing. I still can't believe it happened. Interesting enough, Yelp said the place was closed... as we tried to find a Wellfleet stop for some of their world famous oysters (and our favorite). But they don't close until Thanksgiving! As we almost drove by, we did a double take when we saw the OPEN sign and parked. The building is about 2-300 years old, with gorgeous wide plank floors and adorned with lovely artwork (for sale!). But the SHOW stopper of this joint is their oyster stew - kissed with sherry, 5 plump and luscious oysters, roasted corn, and a daintily creamed broth that will make your knees week. A SERIOUS far cry from the awful and bland clam chowder we had at Fog Island on Nantucket. Of course we had wellfleet oysters, PERFECTLY shucked. Shared a clear fried sole and sweet potato fries, and a spinach salad with 2 of the buttermilk battered oysters. It was a pricey lunch, flawless other than our not too friendly and aloof server. Wish we would have had one of the other lovely ladies. Ours didn't seem to want to be there... BUT the food was fantastic, the building charming, and the staff is warm and welcoming (minus one...) read more

first time here for dinner. the 4 of us would of had fun anywhere but to talk while eating very good food was a surprise. We ate/shared: clam chowder, sashimi, lobster with corn risotto and seared scallops (5) with those fancy miniature vegetables. The waitstaff enjoyed chatting by one of the entrances. Customers appeared to be secondary. I really dislike asking for something simple like butter a number of times. However, I will definitely be back. read more
