I've had their breakfast burritos several times at the Ramsey Farmers market which I really enjoy. I really appreciate that they focus on vegan and natural sustainable food so when in the neighborhood I called in an order for pick up. I decided on the salmon burger. Like others, I came here for the healthy offerings when staying nearby. I was pleased to find that their menu is more diverse than the usual healthy eating spot. I got the Salvadoran Platter, which was healthy and interesting with scrambled eggs, beans, avocado and plantains with plantains. A tasty salsa and white cheese cubes were also on the plate. I wish I were in the area more often because there were many things on the menu that definitely looked appealing. Also, the young woman who took my order was so, so nice. The food is inconsistent but it is consistently over priced. Most recently, I ordered their chicken (gluten free) noodle soup from their refrigerator section for my kids. When I brought it home and reheated it, the noodles melted and made the soup have a thick, coagulated consistency. My kids refused to eat the $15 quart of soup. The manager would not give store credit because of "personal preference." If you can't make a good chicken noodle soup, how can you expect me to try anything else you make? And if you're going to charge that much, stand behind your product. I will NEVER go there again. I've been ordering from True Food since they opened on South Broadway in Nyack. I wanted so badly to support this local business. I would even stop in at the Westwood location. I really enjoyed their German sour dough bread. Once. It was never the same twice. I was unsure what this place would be like, but it proved to be a-ma-zing. The waitress was THE NICEST waitress I've ever met, going above and beyond the call of duty in catering to my vegan needs. I am not a vegan nor someone who puts health-thoughts into their meals. But my brother, sister-in-law and I love the bike riding trails over there. So after a ride one day we decided to stop in here for a bite. Now my sister-in-law used to be vegan so this was right up her ally. But for me, I was super nervous. I hate that I love this place. I order the same sandwich every time and the lately they have been giving me exactly two slices of turkey meat. They fold it up to make it appear as if it's 4 slices, it's not and you can't fool me. The majority of the sandwich is bread and toppings. I know it's organic meat but for a $8-$10 sandwich, this is bs. My husband hates going there because he thinks it's a ripoff ($35-$40 for lunch) but like I said, I like the taste of the sandwich. The owner has never been pleasant in the years I have been going there and has this reputation around town (as I'm friends with other local business owners). Just over the border as we drove from Connecticut to New York, we discovered a cute little cafe called True Food. As we drove through the quaint town of Nyack, we also drove by a Peruvian vegan cafe and had to wonder how many vegan joints this little town had. It was late on a Sunday and we were just looking for a quick, healthy meal so this seemed like the best option. True Food's logo states "real food, real good." Their mission is to offer delicious, fresh wholesome dishes, salads, sandwiches, soups, entrees and baked goods...all organic and at affordable prices. I like that. Although they are all vegetarian, there aren't as many vegan options as one might like, but the burgers sounded so good, we just decided to order both flavors. The cafe is relatively small and has some hot food served deli-style along with salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot wraps, soups, and entrees. They offer lots of snacks and fresh baked goods including vegan and gluten-free options. They also offer an array of packaged salads in the cooler against the wall. I grabbed a Bruce Cost Pomegranate Hibiscus Ginger Ale and took a seat by the window. Zach and I grabbed an Heirloom Tomato and Cucumber Gazpacho from the cooler and started with that. It was loaded with heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, red onions, basil, parsley, olive oil, lemon, salt, and black pepper. We both liked the soup just fine, but felt like it was missing something. We added salt and pepper and it improved the taste. For our entrees, we ordered both burgers. The sweet potato quinoa burger was Zach's favorite. It was made with sweet potatoes, quinoa, ginger, onion, cayenne, bread crumbs, garlic, olive oil, and salt. It tasted very fresh and homemade like just sweet potatoes and quinoa smashed into a patty, but it was also missing something like more spices or herbs. It was served on this great toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, and cabbage. My favorite was the kale pecan burger made of kale, pecans, couscous, ginger, onion, bread crumbs, garlic, olive oil, and salt. Again, homemade taste, but lacking a little flavor. We topped it with some of the hot sauce on the table. The burgers were soft and tended to crumble and fall out of the slightly too small bun. But, all in all, we really liked them and were glad to find some healthy food on our way home. When we left, we took a look at the vegan scones, but decided to leave with the German Sourdough bread. It tasted so moist, salty, and fresh that I just couldn't resist buying a whole loaf. True Food is a great option if you find yourself in upstate New York near White Plains. You'll find fresh, healthy options in an inviting atmosphere. read more

Stopped by for a late breakfast. Lots of choices but the prices are pretty steep for the portions. The power bowl is around $12 without any added protein. The sausage egg and cheese was hard to eat because of the small slices of bread. Everything kept falling out. I'm not going to say anything about any particular dishes, because True Food rocks every plate they put out. I find myself comparing every establishment around the area that claims fresh or organic standards to what True Food does and they all fall short. The menu changes enough to where it never gets boring, and most importantly, everything that comes our feels like it was cooked with passion and respect. Everything is always well presented, the place is spotless and both the owner and the employees are extremely personable and warm. I'm lucky and proud to be a regular customer at such a fine business. Now I will go back to my Salsa, Avocado, Potato, Black Been and Feta breakfast. YUM. read more

Nyack is so lucky to have this amazing restaurant. The food is crazy-good, vegetarian and some dishes with local free-range chicken. That's it. All local, organic produce. No corners cut. The owner is usually behind the counter, smiling and happy to see you, and the other workers are nice and helpful. It's very clean. After a week or so of eating out, on the run, or food that has bar-codes my body almost forces me there for food so good you can feel it nourishing you. I bought a sweet treat which was spoiled due to improper refrigeration. The cashier refused to take it, issue a refund or credit an exchange back and told me to take it up with the manufacturer . After requesting to speak with owner, Pamela, also refused to acknowledge that the food they carry is spoiled. They take no ownership and in their markets, things frequently go on sale when they are past their expiration dates. Very stingy business and overpriced with a very stingy and rude owner and staff. I liked that True Food offers options for a variety of diners, so I was able to still get meat (whew). I opted for the chicken salad sandwich, my friend went with the sweet potato burger, and my husband did the huevos rancheros. Similar to other reviews, while everything was fresh, it lacked seasoning and flavor. My husband made a good point - a burrito is a perfect excuse to add in some spice and heat, neither of which it delivered.
