Wanted to check this spot out for a while and had the opportunity this past weekend. We had some time to kill after the broad and before dinner, so we stopped by for a drink. There was already a line outside when we arrived at 4:55. We were able to grab a spot at the bar since we got there early, but the place was PACKED in about 10 min. The place is SO cute. I was definitely feeling that vintage vibe. We got the passion fruit drink and the cinnamon blood orange one (I totally forgot the names) which were good. My friend didn't like the cinnamon one, but I LOVE cinnamon so I was a fan lol my only complaint was our bartender. He was a little rude and seemed kind of annoyed when I asked for a recommendation. I don't know where to start but I'll give it a try. The decor is hands down my favorite over any other bar I've visited- it's romantic, gothic and just the right amount of quirky to bring me back again to show it off to more people. The drinks were original and delicious- I ordered the coffee banana, which was perfect. The dinner at the balcony overlooking the bar was a treat in itself and quickly felt like prime real estate- I recommend making a reservation for this spot. Last night was the third night this week I've been there. Monday and wednesday are great if you want to have a cozy, intimate dinner and drink with a loved one. Saturday night gets the rush, especially after 10. I reccomend you take some time to sit in the back bar. Pomegranate and Grapefruit is my go to for drinks. However, I've tried their Yuzi and Spicy Pineapple and they were also good. Spicy Pineapple is definitely more for the adventurous drinkers. read more

Was my favorite DTLA cocktail spot but I brought friends for their first time and everything was bad. Super crowded and a waiter never comes. You have to order at the bar and which is fine. The Jason Y the bartender made us 5 cocktails and none of them were good. 2 drinks from the menu were straight out disgusting and I got a whiskey sour which dive bars make with ice and no bitters and no egg white. That's how Jason Y made mine and it wasn't even well balanced. My husband asked Jason Y for 2 more drinks before we had tried the first 3 which he had just finished and Jason gave him attitude like "are you sure that's all?" Does he not want us to order drinks? He seemed like he was more interested in making fast drinks than quality. I put 2 stars because an Asian girl bartender saved my drink by redoing it the right way, in a coup with egg whites and bitter on top, that's more worth the price that The Wolves charge. Also unfortunately the smell of weed was coming through from outside and the music was a hip hop style which didn't vibe with lounge. I could have overlooked all the other things if the drinks were up to par with what I was use to at The Wolves. I hope this isn't the new standard. Maybe it's under new management. First off, stop serving the popcorn. It's burnt. It doesn't taste like Parmesan. And it tastes stale. It's a really bad first impression for what turned out to be a better experience (the popcorn was given "compliments of the kitchen"). It's nice to give "free" items, but just skip this. Besides the popcorn, the drinks were as good as I expected. This is not, however, the Puzzle Bar of DTLA that I had hoped for. The drink menu is skinny in comparison, but care is taken in crafting cocktails like at puzzle (for comparison, the ice is still crystal clear but not hand carved spheres). They still make their own bitters and now make their own liqueurs and other ingredients for cocktails. I'm an old fashioned fan, so I missed the great many drinks that could have been on offer. However, I enjoyed the two old fashions I tried including one that had seaweed bitters (which you could taste). Others commented they enjoyed their drinks as well, though the non-alcoholic coconut drink was noted to be a tad too sweet. The prices for drinks are ok for DTLA and what you get. I truly wish they had a more extensive drink menu - it's clear their bartenders are skilled. Truth be told, we did not order off menu. As for the food, it is tasty but skim. The beef Wellington was really tasty but I wanted more of it. The server mentioned they are more on the sharing side, but I have no idea how you would share it or the grilled cheese (I was told this was really tasty). The cheese plate was good if a bit pricey; there was a bit too much variety - it would have been nicer to have more of fewer items. The plate with the cheese was also a tad soggy. The prices for food are ok for DTLA and what you get. Servers were really nice and attentive. The drinks took a while to get to us considering there were so many bartenders. But watching them was half the fun! I wish we had sat at the bar as the drinks were the best part. The decor is a winner as they have an aesthetic and went all in. Everything looks perfect and provides a unique atmosphere. Even the bathrooms are fancy, though the doors provide some silhouette shows due to their translucent nature and lighting. To summarize, it was decent, but I really loved Puzzle and this doesn't replace this in my heart (but the food is better here even if it's scant). To be fair, I don't know the full extent of involvement from the people at Puzzle (I think just the bar manager), so sorry if I'm expecting too much or making a false comparison. But the only reason I know about this is because of Puzzle Bar, so I know they must be associated somehow - and the server told me as much. read more

Don't know where the best mixology cocktails in town? Definable in the Wolves! Banana cocktail is majestic! The music on the background will accompany your conversations with friends so you'll be able to hear each other and the same time not to hear other conversation. This place is a perfect gem for a lovely romantic dinner at the bar zone. They also have beers for somebody who still prefer beer to the cocktail. The menu also offers some great and inexpensive appetizer option and some full dish options you can have at the bar. Also, there are some Vegan and Gluten free options. So, none of your gluten free or Veg friends will be offended. The place is great for small 2-4 people companies. Me personally went there out with my best friend on Sunday evening. The place was pretty full and you might wait in a line to get in for a little while. Absolutely recommend to all cocktail lovers and design lovers because it is absolutely beautiful inside. Put in your name, go for a walk, have a drink elsewhere, and get excited for them to buzz you and bring you back. The cocktails are incredible, with a wide variety of flavor profiles, and a staggering number of house-made ingredients. Before we even got started, we were served chilled samples of their house vermouth. Bites were also delightful. That flatbread never had a chance. Service was friendly, staff was knowledgeable, and damn I sure do enjoy watching people sculpt ice. It's weirdly zen. Or something. And oh man, just the space itself is like a dream, with patterned ceilings, stained glass, and an overall vibe that took us away to another time and place. I've walked by this place so many times and always missed it, but finally got to check it out last night! Really loved the ambiance and decoration. Fun jazz music in the background and just really beautiful interior. My friend and I had the pleasure of having Nick as our bartender. He was able to explain to us different drinks and make great recommendations. I had the Ardbeg and the Black Currant Scotch. Both really delicious without losing the smoky taste. His work was like magic, chipping away at the huge chunk of ice while carefully handling the torch. We didn't try any of the food but I am definitely coming back for the drinks. read more

A truly phenomenal bar. As soon as you step in, it's as if you've been transported to Paris. We got extremely lucky and got the best table in the house at the indoor balcony overseeing the entire bar which only consisted of three tables. The food menu is limited, but the cocktail list most certainly is not. The dishes are sizable and will definitely fill you up. My favorite cocktail of the night was the Yuzu which was classified under "delicate and subtle." And that it certainly was. The amount of effort and detail that goes into their drinks and decor is incredible. The long wait is understandable because once you get in, you're not going to want to leave. Cool and chill spot with a classic jazz flare ambiance. Nice classic restoration, delicious food and great drinks. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars since the sink to wash your hands was not working properly. (For the price we pay for food and drinks, times all the people that eat & drink there) Management can afford to have a working sink and better soad diapensers. This place has a cool old school vibe. The ceiling is really neat stained glass and the rest of the bar is this beautiful wood. There was a live band on the second floor which added to the ambience. We were able to walk in and get a booth with about a 10 minute wait around 10PM on a Saturday night. Parking- can be atrocious in the area so Uber if you can Why 3 stars? Nobody liked anyone's cocktail besides our friend who got a mock tail! Wouldn't go back for drinks, even with the cool atmosphere. We can't comment on dinner but been there done that. read more

I especially enjoyed the Banana Creme and the Fig. The bread pudding creme brûlée was not at all what I expected, but still nonetheless sort of a diabetic induced goodness, if that's your thing. Portions are rather small. Definite date spot to change up the scenery, at a cost. Drinks are all generally in the $14-16 range. I've only been here once and loved it. We ordered Old Fashioned and Manhattans which were done very well. All of the bitters is made in house which I really liked. But you can tell that the bar program manager, Kevin Lee, no longer has a presence here. The passionate pursuit of perfection and an unwavering philosophy for a balanced cocktail is gone. I've long been a fan of Kevin Lee since his days of running Puzzle Bar in La Mirada. His cocktails were always perfect in taste, in balance...he considers all the senses and tastes when crafting his drinks. Every single drink was fabulous. He left The Wolves about 2 weeks ago...and it shows. Both the old-fashioneds and mint juleps we tried were more like rocket fuel than cocktails...you could have lit them on fire. Super heavy in bourbon and rum...and not in a good way. The fresh fruit juice cocktails were indeed that...more fresh fruit juice than anything else. While the juices were great, it was missing the careful balance that Kevin Lee tries to achieve. It's a damn shame that it's gone downhill so quickly since his departure. I can commend a team if they bust their asses to infuse their own spirits, make their own bitters, and craft flavored syrups. But it's no good if you can use those ingredients properly. We were seeing our daughter perform at the Exchange on Spring St., and we wanted a place with some character (and a good bar) before her late show at 11:30pm. The Wolves didn't take reservations, but we were lucky and got seated right away at about 8:45pm on a Friday night in their balcony upstairs. At first it was just us up there while the bar downstairs was packed, but then more people arrived. There was only one waitress serving us up there, but she was great, and very pleasant. The menu is limited by design, but what was there was really good. I had the mussels, my wife had the burger, and we shared the truly delicious olive dish, marinated warm olives with french bread. Drinks were great, wine selection by the glass was a little too limited, so I might suggest they work on that. But everything else was delightful. The place is gorgeous in a cool retro style, many antiques, and even a smoking patio upstairs looking over Spring St. We would go again. read more

I write my review with a heavy heart. I used to frequent Puzzle before Wolves opened. There was no other Bar like Puzzle, the concept, the attention to detail, the Bar staff, the drink menu and small bites menu, was by far my favorite bar in Southern Cali. Bartenders were awesome and they made the place awesome. So I never made it to The wolves pre covid, but I wouldn't doubt it was awesome. All the negative service comments were similar to Puzzle, but it is only because when they do give good service they go overboard and that is difficult to do with a larger crowd, so I could imagine the growing pains here at the Wolves. that being said, talking to the bartender they just re-opened after covid, have been open 3 months and are on a limited staff. Very difficult to hire new staff, and OG bartenders are gone. The Drinks menu was very lacking, the Bartenders attention is gone. I believe they sold to a new ownership who doesn't understand the concept of what Puzzle was. Whiskey selection is sad. They only had one bartender so I believe they are looking for more bartenders but can't find any. So forget about finding a craft cocktail bartender which is what it used to be. I felt overlooked by waitress, but again, when they did attend to me it was great service. Rebuilding after covid is tough, but the saddest part was no management in sight. The Door security was a super cool guys, bartender was cool. but there was a lot of mess everywhere like if someone was living there. All this alludes me to the change in ownership because the original owners were detail oriented and this past experience was not. It was a cool looking bar, good drinks, good service and ok food. Again no management in sight. So I will probably give it another go in 3 months as a follow up. I hope its still open and I hope its totally different. read more

Hi, I need to share my awful experience at the wolves restaurant. I was with a few friends, we sat down and our waitress was rude and unfriendly from the minute we picked a table. our experience was already edgy I didn't get her name, but she has really long brown hair. I had one of my friend from NYC visiting and my other friend that's a member of the DTLA COMMUNITY. my boyfriend came to join us from our loft about 20 minutes later. keep in mind we are locals. This is our neighborhood, so we are always out eating experiencing the most gorgeous restaurants. We all had one round of drinks and was ready for a new round. When our server told us that she was uncomfortable serving us because she claimed that we were too intoxicated. She also made a comment about my boyfriend having to much to drink when she hasn't even meet him yet he was in the bathroom. She just accused him of being drunk because supposedly we were all over the limit. I said that this is very inappropriate and we felt targeted from the start and it didn't help that she was rude the whole time so I got very defensive quickly. We ended up talking to the manager. Hopefully he settled it. He told me he was sorry and would get to the bottom of it maybe by looking at the tab and seeing that we ordered three meals and ordered one round of drinks so therefore we weren't over served and we paid for a second beer that we didn't even drink. This was a horrible experience because of this one waitress. I could never recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. read more

Love this place! The moment you walk in, you're instantly transported to an eclectic space with vintage Victorian, murder mystery and steampunk vibes. It is a gem and a refreshing scene in downtown from all the cold, new American, modern takes. They were unfortunately out of the High Tea but were able to make us the Pear, Goji Sake into that portion so my friends and I could share. Though a little pricey, every cocktail sounded intriguing and it was difficult to choose! All the servers and bartenders are nice and very knowledgeable. Definitely will be back :) read more
