Went here last night with friends and overall had a great time! The doorman - AMAZING. So friendly and sweet. Good guy! His jacket was stolen while he was working- get him a new one, he deserves it!! The bartender who helped me choose drinks - super friendly and helpful. Made two great cocktails! Our original server- young female. Sadly a really rude vibe. Condescending and seemed constantly annoyed at everything. Thankfully there were two servers rotating so we quickly learned to only wait for him to take our orders. She was just too miserable that it made really uncomfortable. My whole group noticed her attitude immediately. I hate complaining about female servers so this was disappointing. What a gem. Finally made it in to The Wolves after a show in DTLA and this spot certainly holds its own amongst the ranks of rad cocktail bars around town. Now, I only had a glass of wine (womp, womp) so I cant fully speak to the cocktail menu, although I did give it a good look-see and there's a solid mix of creative stuff + old classics. What's most memorable about this place is the beautiful ceiling and overall ambiance. We were two of only a handful of people in the bar, so the bartender was nice enough to share some of the history of the space with us. We were assuming the cool facets of the building were just really old originals, but it was interesting to hear that a lot of things were shipped in to make the space what it is today. The ceiling was originally from a print shop in Chicago. Pretty cool! Don't miss the upstairs balcony, especially if you're here on a slower night as you'll probably have it all to yourself. This is a pretty loud part of DTLA and the people watching was a whole thing--I could've sat there all night if I hadn't gotten sleepy (red wine, am I right?). Not sure how busy it gets on the weekends, but I would say this is a good spot for groups (out of towners or otherwise) on a weeknight. Parking in this part of downtown is terrible (we took a rideshare), so I'd look for a lot or avoid it altogether if that's an option for you. read more

The drinks were delicious and very complex in the ingredients they used to create them. Our waiter was very nice, it was his first day and did great in taking care of us. The seating area is small so I can see how it might get really packed if you go later in the day on a weekend but it's worth the experience to check it out. read more

came on a friday night around 11:30 PM. Was seated right away & i got parisian vibes, my favorite type of vibe. Place was dim enough to have people look mysterious but not invisible. Music wasn't iconic or club-y, but it added the perfect background noise so that you can gossip with your friends in peace. Staff was extremely attentive and drinks were so cute & delicious. When you walk to the back of the lounge, you walk into an episode of Vampire Diaries because it indeed reminded me of a scene of Twilight and I almost felt like I had to stop myself from changing into a werewolf. Came here on a Monday night, it was busy, most of the tables were occupied and there was several patrons at the bar. The place looks fantastic, has a great Victorian kinda look too it with the dark wood, stained glass ceiling, its nice. The had a simple cocktail menu with about 8 drinks on it, we tried The Smokey pineapple, the Pomegranate something , A Four ROses Old Fashioned and a Yuzu cocktail. They were all fantastic! Our bartender Mario was a boss, his cocktails were fire! It's a real mixologist place, all the cocktail elements besides the liquors are house made, so house made bitters, fermented fruits etc. The cocktails are made with great care and they look great, most are garnished with little flowers. Fantastic spot, I'd recommend coming here on a week day. I've tried coming here on a weekend and this place is jam packed, it didn't look that great to chill in with a million people wedged in there. But week day this place is great. Awesome date spot. Will have to come back earlier next time and try their food, as the kitchen was closed by the time we got there. read more

The mixologists knew their trade: we enjoyed watching an Old Fashioned made with great care and a flash of flame; or the high pour technique. They have a solid variety of quality spirits to please everyone. Plus, comfort food, from charcuterie to truffle fries. We dropped in on a Sunday as they opened, greeted by a charming doorman, and found it easy to find a seat at the bar. Our bartender gave a very generous pour of Rye to our liking. I'd bring friends here in an instant. Worth a visit! Of course you're on your own for parking, but make a trip of it by strolling the neighborhood, maybe stop at The Last Bookstore or other shops. read more

I visited this place while bar hopping last night with some friends for a birthday celebration and was sadly disappointed by the service. We ordered a few drinks (a G&T and two beers) and a baguette with salted butter to munch on. The bartender never asked the type of Gin -- it was only after we looked at the receipt that we realized it was well. Luckily, we caught this before the drinks were made and were able to ask for my specific preference. Then, we received... just a sliced baguette. No butter even though we specifically ordered it. When asking abt the butter (since we ordered it), there was some commotion between the staff -- eventually, it became clear that our bartender had made a mistake and only charged us for the bread ($5). Ok, understandable, so we put down an additional $5 to cover the butter. The bartender proceeded to charge the entire $5 for the butter. The menu specifically listed baguette with salted butter for $7, yet the bartender saw it fit to take the entire $5 for a measly pat of butter. Fine. It's only a few bux; annoying to have that happen (especially as it seemed to be a misunderstanding on part of the staff -- the bartender confirmed he did hear that we asked for the salted butter with the baguette) but ok, fine. As we finished the baguette slices (about 7 small slices, three of which were finished while waiting for the butter), we jokingly asked if they could give us more bread as a server was clearing our plates. Response: "We could but we'd have to charge you for it." What kind of... it's bread. A mistake was made with our order, a misunderstanding was had, and you've already overcharged us for what we DID order. You've already accepted a generous tip on our initial order, taken the additional $5 we paid for a pat of butter, and now you want to charge us for a few more slices of the baguette? AND act as though WE made the mistake? To add to all of this, the baguette slices were so hard I almost chipped a tooth trying to bite down -- less of a baguette, closer to pieces of rock. We fell upon this random establishment during our bar hopping extravaganza on Friday night :). This place looks like an old Irish bar with outdated decor from the 19 century with beautiful glass ceilings. The bartender or the mixologist really did a great job in making their cocktails. They mixed, moved and tossed their drinks as if they were making a magic potion for you. It's really a sight to see them in action. Funny enough, two of my friends were already a bit tipsy and the bartender told them they were both done and cut their tabs. I did respect their decision but that made us move on to the next bar lol. Great bar with a lot of charm! We came here after a concert at Pershing Square. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman checking ID's in the front. We stepped in and felt like we were transported back in time. The atmosphere is very cool and the decor is quite unique and charming - the ceiling and the seats in particular. I had a Yuzu, which was recommended by our friend and had gin, yuzu liqueur, and lime - really nice and refreshing. My bf got the Spicy Pineapple with Smoke, which had mezcal and he really enjoyed it. We also got the Bruschetta for the table, which came with prosciutto and was delicious! Sweet art deco, this place is a fantastic find. Though on the pricey side for a casual night, this place has outstanding artisan drinks that match the revived early 1900s decor. A great throwback bar! The hostess and staff can present a bit haughty, but I expect its intended as part of the environment (if not, at least a construct of it). This place is AWESOME! We went to see Cory because we would follow him to the moon and as he promised this place did not disappoint. This place has an incredible cocktail menu! I tried five different cocktails (shared) and they were all pretty delicious. It's on the happening side of dtla on Spring. Lots going on over there. We really liked the low profile on the place and the decor was really unique and thematic. There was even a seance going on upstairs when we got there. There are very few bars and restaurants that you can classify as beautiful. The Wolves is in that class. The Mrs. and I had pre-dinner drinks Friday night at The Wolves before making our way over to the Stocking Frame Restaurant. Stepping into The Wolves is like stepping back in time. The interesting thing is that this bar was built from the ground up, but it looks like it has been there 100 years. The drinks are just as beautiful as the bar is. I noticed when people walked in that they had to take a step back just to admire the beauty of the place. The Wolves prides itself on using the freshest ingredients. Our amazing bartender, David, told us that because they use fresh ingredients that the drink menu changes seasonally and the drinks never tastes the same even if you make the same drink twice. Not only are the drinks a feast for the eyes, but for the senses as well. Each drink has a significant fragrance to it. Here is a list of the drinks we had: Mandarin Manhattan Bourbon Amaro & Hops Bourbon Cranberry with Smoke Floral Gin Martini Smoke & Coffee The bar staff and cocktail waitresses are classically dressed. Conservative and classy as not to distract from the surroundings. Food is also served at The Wolves but, unfortunately, we didn't try any of it. The drink prices are a bit high, so be prepared. However, the drink prices are worth the experience. The Wolves is an easy walk from Pershing Square so you can take the train in if you choose. The interior of this bar is absolutely stunning! It is reminscent of a speakesy from the gorgeous stained glass ceiling and wooden fixtures throughout with some jazz music playing from the roaring 20's. Super chill ambiance and the bartenders are very friendly. They have a door man who only lets several bodies in at a time to prevent the bar from getting too crowded. He said that nobody likes to sit at a bar having other people standing so close and ordering right next to you. This is true! The cocktails came with a price, but tasted like they were made with great care. From the delicate and subtle list, I tried the yuzu (my favorite) and korean pear with apricot. Both were so refreshing, yet not too sweet. The korean pear with apricot is so extra because it's sprayed with a unique bamboo fragrance. Never had a cocktail that smelled so good. I also tried the fernet and mango from the strong and robust list of cocktails, which tasted heavily of rhum, but still had the mango flavor. This has been added to my list of favorite bars in LA! read more

With 19th-century Argentinian doors, 1910s Chicago train station ceilings, 1850s upstate New York booths, they did not leave one element to chance. The space is simply beautiful. Elegant. Picturesque. Immediately vaults into the highest echelon of 'Best Venues in Los Angeles.' The cocktails are put together with an equal amount of thought and a great array of ingredients. The bartenders are nice, friendly, and will talk - not a small feat for a place with this motif. That said, it helps that they are firm with their crowds and do not allow standing room drinkers. It really creates an intimate time to enjoy the splendor of the space. We were only there for drinks, but the menu looks serviceable as well. Will definitely come back, if only to ogle more! The Wolves is very good, but there were a couple missteps that left me wanting more. First, the good: The interior design is really neat and the bar definitely lives up to its 1910s aesthetic. The drinks are unique and generally quite good. The atmosphere is worth the trip alone. Areas for improvement: The space was quite loud. I went there expecting an intimate cocktail lounge but got the vibes of a sports bar. It could have just been an off night but overall it detracted from my experience and what I think the bar was striving for. Some of the drinks were fairly aspirational in their intent, leaving even this adventurous drinker confused (looking at you, Let Them Talk). Overall: It's worth the visit, but if you are seeking a cozy cocktail lounge vibe you may need to look elsewhere. read more

I totally stumbled onto this place and DEFINITELY a huge fan already. Apparently this place used to be a printing shop and they remodeled the place for over a year. It has a total 1920's vibe with a spiraling staircase and a cool, medieval feel. All the cocktails are so unique and the descriptions sound so tasty. The best part is that most of the ingredients are freshly acquired or made in-house. Just sitting at the bar and watching the bartenders make the drinks itself is quite an experience. The bartenders were dressed very dapper in pinstripes as well. The bartenders were also very friendly and answered all questions in full detail. I definitely learned a thing or two about drinks and the ingredients they use. One other thing that impressed me were the LARGE ICE CHUNKS that they use. It's out on display and they literally chip off ice cubes from the large ice chunks. Apparently this type of ice melts slower, so that your drink doesn't taste all watered down. I loved my drink - which was the Korean Pear with Apricot. It was rum based with the right enough balance of sweet and sour. All their drinks are seasonal so be sure to check it out a couples times in across seasons :) read more
