Here are the good and the bad: Good: * Food: ~ Chicken tenders and waffle fries were so delicious with the chipotle bbq sauce. ~ Other people at my table had a burger and other dishes I don't remember, but they all appeared to taste delicious as well, and they liked it too. * Environment: ~ We ate outside just below the inside part; it was not bad. Some of the benches were beaten up pretty badly, including ours, which was not ideal. Nevertheless, it seemed like a fun restaurant and good scenery. Bad: * Service: ~ The guy was kind and all, but seriously, the incompetency mind boggles me. Why is it so difficult to write down specifically the order for each individual, and "audit" the order to make sure it's right when it comes out prior to delivering to the customer? Came with the family on a Tuesday. Plenty of staff and the service was good. Not very busy and decided to sit out side because it was somewhat cool. Had misters on the deck so was very comfortable. Had the brisket nachos, pickle dip, burrito bowel, fish and shrimp and Turkey meatloaf. Food was decent and nothing bad to say but nothing super delicious. Heard about The Yard from one of my friends and decided to check it out. Beautiful fun chill fun spot. Good for friends, family or date night out. Lots of seating outdoor, music, as well as an over 21 bar that sits outside the main restaurant. PSA!!!: If you are NOT family oriented, you hate kids, not planning on having kids, complains a lot about "kids being kids" THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!! They have fun activities like, ping pong tables, bean bag toss. Play before you eat, while waiting or after eating. I was seated quickly, food came back to my table within 10 mins of ordering. Great outside place for kids, adults and dogs. They have TVs everywhere where you can watch any sporting event. If it's a chilly night they have bonfires to keep you warm. The food and service was good. I like how this is a dog friendly place. They even have a patch for dogs to do their business away from customers. I went on a Friday night and they said the wait was 45 mins but it only took about 25 mins. The nice thing about the location is that you are close to downtown McKinney that you can just walk around the block to kill time. read more

I really enjoyed stoping by here for lunch. They had a great outdoor patio area. Perfect for a fall afternoon. If I lived closer and wasn't driving I would definitely visit more often and drink a few more of the beers they had on offer. The menu was solid. I had the loaded fries which were excellent. I was supposed to have them as a side Roth my burger but I guess they came as a separate portion and then I got extra fries. Probably too much food for me but I wasn't upset or complaining about it. Price wasn't bad. A little more expensive than I am used to for a burger but it is also in a fancy part of town so to be expected and they have a great space to maintain. Service was good and quick. I've been here twice now. On one of the HOTTEST days of Texas I sat outside under the misters and had the best meal. First the waitress was an absolute peach. Her name was not on the tab however beautiful blonde with a great smile. She was friendly, attentive and so loving to my dog. This place is basically huge "yard" with big shade trees and lots of games. There are two indoor areas: one is only a bar and the other is a restaurant with a smaller bar. There are lots of places outside to sit, relax, play games, and enjoy a drink. It was a little warm when we went so we opted for a spot inside. Their food menu was smaller than I expected. We got the front porch nachos to share and I got the veggie lover burger. Front porch nachos: you get a good amount of chips and they were not skimpy on toppings either! The chimichurri added a unique pop of fresh flavor to the nachos. It's hard to eat just one! Veggie burger: Its a black bean burger loaded with: mushrooms, goat cheese, arugula, and garlic aioli. To top it off, the bun comes lightly toasted and buttered. What's not to like!? It had so much flavor. The only thing I would change would be, maybe a little less goat cheese. I love goat cheese, but the strong flavor dominated some of the other flavors of the burger. Nonetheless, it was super good and I would totally get it again. We were delightfully surprised by our experience. Our neighbors told us about The Yard and suggested we try it out with our kiddos (5yrs + 3yrs), but we assumed it would be all outdoors, in the sun, in this heat & tucked it away for a cooler fall day. Saturday rolled around & we wanted a fun family date night spot & decided to try The Yard. It was incredible! We arrived around 5:15pm, easily found street parking about a block away & when we arrived they had indoor a/c seating available ASAP! The menu (kids too) had something for everyone. The boys chose the hamburger + apples slices & quesadilla + apple slices. My hubby chose a tap beer + Sloppy Big Tex + fries & I chose The Taco Stand (sans cheese) + fries. We all cleaned our plates, which is a great sign. Our server, Kelsey was so kind, attentive, checked in on us just the right amount of times & was great with the boys. She didn't rush us, but let us enjoy our drinks & dinner. After we ate, we took the suggestion, which appears everywhere "Come Play in the Yard" so we did just that. We played giant Connect Four, Corn Hole and watched the "big kids" play Ping Pong. Food - 2 stars Experience - 4 stars Visited the yard with a party of 6 on a Wednesday night. 1 hour + wait time. Fortunately they have a great outdoor experience. Kids played bean bag toss and ping pong while we waited. The whole outdoor experience is amazing, I must say. Good service good and reasonably quick given how busy the restaurant was at the time. However, the food was not great. I'm giving it to stars for the food and four stars for the experience. I will also plan to go back and give the place another try. Shrimp Tacos - would have been great but there was some flavor in the sauce that I did not like. Unfortunately this same sauce was the base of the elote corn side dish. I love elote but did not eat more than a few bites. Kids chicken tenders - You would expect kids tenders to be relatively plain but at The Yard they have some flavoring in the breading that gives it a weird taste. The kids did not like it nor did any of the adults who tasted it. Grilled Cheese - Pretty simple sandwich but it was the best taste of anything ordered. Burgers - Instead of a larger quarter pound patty, the burger was made up to smaller 1/8 pound patties. If I'm going to pay this much for a burger at least give me a real hamburger patty rather than to dry it out small patties. read more

Wow! This place is an amazing little gem. I can imagine this place is very busy on the weekends, because the atmosphere is so awesome! Very laid back, with quality food and drinks. On our visit, the staff members we interacted with were so wonderful and friendly. For an appetizer, our group ordered the chips and queso... YUM! For drinks I had the Sarita, and the Honeysuckle. Drinks were pricey, but worth it because they were pretty strong! For the meal, I ordered the yard burger. Hands down amazing. Overall, great experience, we will definitely be back! read more

This spot is beautiful with a wonderful outdoor area and a nice, well AC'd indoor area. We came because it's always packed when we pass by and their social media pictures look amazing. However, we were quite disappointed in the quality of the food. For example, the shrimp tacos is pictured multiple times on Instagram with 3 beautiful tacos with plenty of mango salsa on top, etc. when in reality it's only two and it does not look anything like the Instagram advertising. We also got the smothered fries - food tasted fine, not great but not bad - fries were not very fresh and the tacos were mediocre. The service was not that great but perhaps the waitress was having an off day, it happens. The place was packed and food took a while but you would expect to be fresh but it wasn't. Not sure we will be back and not sure why so many people come. Might be a good spot to get a drink and maybe some chips? Too many good spots around - Union Bear will/should outcompete The Yard. read more

Our favorite restaurant in McKinney! We had such a great time on a rainy Sunday here. We couldn't enjoy their huge front yard full of TVs and picnic tables but we were quite happy inside. Our server was attentive and gave us great guidance about food and cocktail options. They have a great beer selection and we also enjoyed their Bloody Mary (homemade mix and infused vodka) and their Watermelonade (like a jolly rancher with a little bit of salt and tahine on the rim). I really just need to rave about the nachos. Guys, these were so good! The best chips!!! And they have the perfect distribution of all of the toppings spread out beautifully. We got the Chicken Tinga added and it was bomb!! It was also quite nice that when we asked the cheese to only be on one side as my friend is lactose averse, they gave her a separate tray. A perfect addition to a growing community! Located at the Historic Downtown Mckinney, this place is under Thirty Three Restaurant group. The group behind Union Bear and Taverna Rossa. From that alone you know that food will be awesome (I'd have to make and update review for that once I tried theirs) ;) We stopped in about in hour and a half before closing. There were still people (adults) playing yard games outside and a few families dining inside. It was cold so we decided to sit at the bar. Draft, cans, bottles and awesome collection of liquors (see pics). After being helped with our drink orders we pretty much watch how they clean the bar. The bartender was really at it, she wiped down every single bottle on display to make sure there isn't any sticky, hunk leftover. If that's how they clean every counter and liquor bottles and fridge every night then it would be a treat to see their kitchen on how they clean it too! This actually has got me excited to try their food. 1. Because of the restaurant group behind all this and 2. How they properly train their employee the proper clean up after every shift. read more

We love going here with our dogs and sitting outside, watching games on their huge and many TVs. The staff are wonderful and the food is fresh and delish. Great beer/wine/cocktail choices too!
