Came back again and it never disappoints. This place is consistently good and the best place for group settings. Last night, it was packed with graduates and their families. We got in and out at 8pm. We ordered 3 perle froze, half order of chicken nachos, half order of brisket nachos, and sweet & spicy wings. Everything was so good and the drinks were strong. If this rating were based just on the ambiance it's an easy 5 stars. It's a great place to come sit outside with friends and get some drinks. The watermelonade drink was fantastic and the salt rim looked like a salt lamp. The backyard punch tasted medicinal, but it was happy hour so not too much money lost. If you haven't given The Yard a chance, add it to your list. It is one of my staples when guests come to town or I want to enjoy the weather and a drink. You can easily show up without a reservation but know you'll have quite a wait on your hands on most weekends. If you're a patio lover like myself, the wait won't matter after you grab a ranch water and gather round the many fire pits on the property. The food is tasty and is what one can expect from an American restaurant in Texas. The fried foods are typical southern fare but the nachos perfectly compliment the setting and go great with a Dallas Blonde beer. The bar has a great mix of traditional cocktails and adventures spirits to accompany their large selection of beer (both local and traditional). Overall, The Yard should be experienced. Loved the outdoor seating area...was a beautiful location that had both outdoor heaters and fans, so I could see this being a great venue for different kinds of weather. We went at 5:45 on a Monday, so it was slow. We opted to sit outside because it is nice and shady. Our server was fantastic, (I think his name was Avery?) didn't hover but was very attentive. The food was phenomenal we started with the queso... fantastic, great flavor. My kids both opted for the adult chicken strips, they were great...crispy yet juicy. I got the Del Mar shrimp tacos with garlic green beans.... The tacos were good but the green beans were out of this world, fresh with great flavor! Their "pint" beers are served in a 12 oz plastic glass, so even at happy hour with a buck off $6-7 a "pint" prices it's not that great of a deal. Food was disappointing with a burrito bowl with a cup and a half of vegetable ingredients and maybe a table spoon and a half of shredded beef topping. Another sorry serving for $16. On top of that parking here sucks with the commercial lot full at 5pm and not emptying out, so figure on street parking 2-3 blocks away. Bartenders at back bar have a bit of attitude when asking about get real pint of beer. Another overly hyped place, I won't be back. read more

I came here on a visit to Dallas in the summer. The outdoor seating was great. It was very hot outside as you'd expect, but The Yard has mature trees providing plenty of shade. This coupled with the fans they have made it quite comfortable, cooler than expected. I had the nachos and a salad. The large nachos is large enough to split across two people. The pricing was fair, not too expensive, but not cheap either. They do offer a military discount and applied it to the food and the alcohol, so that makes the pricing better. read more

It's pretty big, and is almost always busy and yet the service is fast and responsive. The last time there, Rosario was our waitress and she did an incredible job. I had wanted to try this spot for a while so finally made the drive over. The yard is a home in downtown McKinney that has been turned into a restaurant. When you are here and realize this is makes you feel bad about your sad little backyard at home. . We checked in and they said there was a bit of a wait and we could get drinks in the bar but they weren't very specific in where the bar seating was compared to sears you had to wait for We had to find someone to ask as it turns out the table in front of the bar and not bar tables. Once the bar clarified we were able to order drinks in the window and go site in the gravel area. Overall a great place to eat outside with a nice view. The Elotes were very good. Not my top #1 but solid top 3 which is good. The hot dog was very dressed up and big and very solid meal. The fish taco was very interesting and came deconstructed but when put all together was fantastic and a definite must to try. The chicken sandwich was also very good and juicy and not over done.
