Looking fir a place for breakfast downtown near everything I chose this location for the reviews and proximity to the park. I was not disappointed. The food choice was extensive and my coffee so delicious. I had a breakfast sandwhich of eggs, nitrate free bacon and mushrooms on gluten free bread; so good. My granddaughter had the yogurt parfait; which tasted like it was churned out back it was so fresh tasting and she had a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. All very good including my hazel nut almond milk latte; yum yum! I highly recommend. Thinking Cup prepares their Hazelnut Lattes with a house made hazelnut paste and real hazelnut bits that add a crunch to the beverage towards the bottom of the drink. Stopped in for some coffee after exploring Brattle Books and the Common. There wasn't much a line and it moved fast. All the food looked super good and was displayed beautifully. The menu was good and the prices pretty much what I expected. I ordered a mocha latte and had to wait a bit for it but they only had one person on the machine and the girl was doing her best! My mocha was pretty good, but you could tell the milk had been rushed and was heavy. The latte art was so good especially with the rush! Well this place was a disappointment which really surprised me because there are so many positive reviews. While the seating area was nice we just did not enjoy anything I ordered. 1) I ordered a hot chocolate which was beyond bitter. I had to add sweetener (0 stars) 2) The banana bread which was nothing special, I've made better at home. (2 stars) 3) The sea salt chocolate chip cookie had too much sea salt concentrated in the middle which made it too salty overall. I got a vanilla ginger latte with oat milk. It was my first time trying the vanilla ginger syrup with my latte since the barista recommended it and the syrup is housemade. They have a couple of unique syrups that are made in house. The vanilla ginger flavor was okay and was nothing special. I barely tasted the ginger and the latte overall was good. read more

Visit Date: May 28, 2019 I loved Thinking Cup. I didn't know they were a Boston chain until we passed a few of them while walking around Boston. Hubby and I just randomly picked it as the coffee shop I wanted to try. I was going to get a fancy drink but I recently started weight watchers and was counting points during the vacation and when I saw the gluten free donut that's what I had to have instead of the drink. My coffee was delicious, the donut was so awesome as well. My hubby wasn't so satisfied but he doesn't write for yelp, although I do like to note his opinion at times in my reviews. Ha! Had the opportunity to visit Thinking Cup for a second time during our short visit and using our "lessons learned" from our first visit (see my first review for what those were lol), our experience was made better. I'll explain below. Funny thing - we REALLY wanted to give Tatte a try that morning - which was a couple blocks down Tremont from Thinking Cup (corner of Tremont & Boylston). But as we approached Tatte, we saw the INSANE line of people out the door and instantly pressed on to Thinking Cup. Lol (I'm sorry but imho noooooooo coffee shop, no matter how on-trend, is worth waiting in a ridiculously long line). We got the sandwich-fixes right this time. We ordered our egg bacon cheese sandwiches on a TOASTED everything bagel (instead of a tasteless, tiny english muffin) - MUCH BETTER AND WAY MORE SUBSTANTIAL. We upsized our lattes from Small to Medium. Way better as their small sized cups are tiny. And this time, one of us ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (how could we not with the extensive GC menu staring us in the face - see my pic). Good choice. The only bust was the blueberry muffin. It was substantial in size - not a bad thing - but it was DENSSSSSSSSE OMG. I laughed when, hours later, my traveling companion said it sat like a rock in her stomach lol - and hours after that she goes "I was just thinking....if I tied a string around that muffin and swung it around my head and hit someone with it, it would actually HURT." Hahahahahaha - the visual of that makes me laugh every time I think of it. So, that would be a big NO to the blueberry muffin unless they change the recipe... Service was again excellent, friendly and upbeat - and our order came out quickly. I like that they press additional cashiers into action when the line gets long. Thumbs up to that. OHHHHH - BONUS! The barista made beautiful latte art for both our lattes!! Made our morning!!! THANK YOU!!! Highly recommend Thinking Cup! (Note: We did, later in the day, get a chance to try out Tatte on Washington Street - 2 totally different experiences, "feels" and ambience. This is our second time to a Thinking Cup during our stay here in Boston, and I am not disappointed in the slightest! The coffee is freshly roasted, espresso is strong and bold, and the food is fresh and appetizing. I highly recommend the B.A.L.T. (Recommended to me by an employee). Extremely fresh veggies, and crisp bacon! If you're looking for a Vegan option, they have an assortment of baked goods that change regularly, or you can opt in for a sandwich and make it vegan! (They have specific versions). I'd give a full 5 stars, but sadly the Banh Mi was missing a few ingredients. Nevertheless is was still plenty tasty! Love it here. Staff is kind and I love the perfect balance between coffee house woody cave old academic aesthetic and natural light fresh sunlight aesthetic. The espresso here is noms noms noms. I think my only only qualm is the lack of vegetarian sandwiches. I think they have one or maybe two? It would be nice to see a couple more vegan/vegetarian options so I can feel better bringing my vegetarian friends here. Zucchini bread is also incredible. Coffee across the street from the Boston Commons, this place does a brisk business with the suit crowd in the morning. I waited in queue briefly and at the register, ordered a cortado and breakfast burriuto. They were ready a few minutes later, separately. The cortado was rich and very tasty. Just the right amount of coffee and milk in the cup, served in a short glass. Delicious. Breakfast burrito was a decent size, nicely stuffed with eggs and ham and a spicy salsa. Watch out, the salsa is a little wet and almost dripped on my clean shirt. Oops! Neat little spot, perfect for a quick or a slow coffee. This is a cute little coffee shop just across the street from Boston Common. Sat down here to do a little work after walking around town being a bit touristy. I had a chai tea and found an open table. The ambiance is very casual, seems like a lot of people were coming and going. As someone else said, the lack of wifi wasn't helpful, had to tether off of my cell phone. So not a fantastic spot to work from. They had a case full of delicious looking pastries and the menu of food looked good. All I tried was the tea though. It was a slightly spicier chai. Love the vibes and the drinks aren't terrible, which is a win for me in terms of cafes. I usually go to have a cup of tea or hot chocolate since I am not a coffee drinker. It's small, but love getting work done or to just journal and spend a chill afternoon. If I could review this for only the cinnamon roll, then easily a 5 out of 5! The cinnamon roll was soft, fresh, and had plenty of cream cheese frosting. It was amazing! Totally worth it. As for the mocha and the breakfast burrito, I was unimpressed. The mocha did not have a lot of flavor. It wasn't rich or creamy with mocha flavor or coffee flavor. It was very blah. The breakfast burrito needs to take some notes from the California style breakfast burritos. The burrito itself was small, which was not the problem. The problem was that the ingredients were all separately placed inside the burrito and all of the ingredients minus the eggs were cold. The black beans, bacon, salsa, cheese, and tortilla were cold as though they were taken right out of the fridge. The eggs were the only hot ingredient. The cheese was not shredded as you typically find in burritos. The cheese was a square slice of cheese that was folded. Thinking Cup was really cute inside and looked like they had great pastries options. Their prices were very reasonable. Really cool place I found early in the morning before exploring Boston. Only downside of this place was the fact it's 2019, it's a coffee shop, and it didn't have wifi. Not to sound like a whiny Millennial, I mean I can be, but I had some grad school homework to do before I started my day and had to use my hotspot. We visited this location and were very pleased with our experience. It is not as busy as Newbury Street and allows you to have a conversation and hear each other without being drowned by the neighboring tables and overall noise. I had specific questions regarding dietary needs and Jack (the employee at this particular location) was extremely helpful and patient. He did not pressure or rush us despite others in line behind us. His recommendation was wonderful. It can be hard to find the right combination of experience when you visit a cafe - ambience, food, service and noise level and I have to say that our visit checked all boxes. I hate using the word "respite," but Thinking Cup is a respite in the bustling city of Boston. At least for this lady who is two years removed from city life. Are cities always so loud and so full of people? I guess they are. It's not like Thinking Cup is devoid of people -- quite the opposite. When I visited, the place was packed. Almost every table was full, and there were people in line waiting to order. However, there is something about this coffee shop that is quiet and peaceful. I felt like my shoulders could relax as I sipped my iced coffee and ate my brioche. Speaking of iced coffee: I found the best iced coffee, and it's here. It's here! I suggest ordering the largest size available, because it is excellent and you will just want more. Apparently the coffee is Stumptown. This place is like a patisserie with the large variety of baked goods and desserts. I feel sad that I only ordered a brioche, because I saw a flourless chocolate cake in the display case that was calling my name. Muffins, scones, cookies, cakes, cheesecake, brownies, blondies, bars, buns, tarts, eclairs ... you'll find something to eat here, for sure. Restrooms are for patrons only.
