Jury is still out for me on this place. Lily Thai, another restaurant, also on Grand has been my go to place for a while, but now I've tried Thip Osha thrice (once delivery). I was really excited the first time because it tasted spicier and had ingredients different and more original than the reliable Lily Grand. What makes it hard for me to switch completely is I don't remember being sufficiently impressed Subsequent times. I felt like I have to be impressed because it IS more expensive than Lily Thai while getting less. For instance there is no soup included with the lunch special. Also Thip Osha is small, and not in a cute or "charming" way, but in a cramped way. I felt like there was hardly room for servers when hardly anyone was there, so I can't imagine what it would be like when full. The thought of ten people there would keep me away. Also while the food is presented in a very pretty and appetizing way, there is a view into the kitchen that is not "charming" (as it could be if done with creativity). I feel sorry for criticizing them on this, real estate is at such a premium in NYC, but size does matter! If it was a bigger place, with similar pricing to Lily Thai it would be a no brainer that its better, but as it is, the last time I ordered Thai it was the older place and I didn't feel like I was missing out at all. Both places are good, even if the new one is "hipper", so I hope both are able to survive. Having more choices is definitely a good thing in this case. read more

I cannot say enough nice things about this place. This is my go-to place to eat, not just Thai food, but any dine-in or take out, in the East Williamsburg area. Where do I even start? I have so many nice things to say!! For starters, is super well located - right next to the Grand L Station/exit. There is a small (very small) seating area, but it's not uncomfortable. It is often a little crowded some nights and weekends, but I'm okay with that as it shows how amazing the food is here. Which bring me to my next point: food! The pad thai is on point EVERY SINGLE TIME. No matter if I order pick up, which is quite often, delivery, or if I seat in. They have never, ever, EVER gotten my orders wrong...even with my "special requests". The Thai tea is one of my fave things in the world also. Not to mention customer service is lovely here. When I find new thai places that are actually good I get very very happy!! Thip osha on grand street is such a small hole in the wall restaurant, super casual and quick but they know their stuff! The lunch special is amazing, it's $8.95 11:30 to 3:30pm and it comes with a house salad, free appetizer and entree. The green curry and the pad see ew are both stars! I love that everything I've tried here is the perfect amount of spicy, it's probably still not for beginners but if you love a little heat then it's for you! Worst Thai I have ever had, and I had many. We just ordered delivery and all the dishes were so flavorless that it was almost impossible to distinguish one from the other, least eat them. The most bland pad Thai, summer rolls that literally just had lettuce and a piece of tofu in it, dumplings squashed under the sauce and also questionable and a Tom yum soup that was simply broth with veggie and nothing of its usually wonderful lemongrass flavor. No idea what happened but every single plate was extremely disappointing and we could barely eat it. Super well designed layout at this spot and very cozy feeling. I got the Tom Kha with chicken and it was so incredible I ordered it again. Two bowls in a row and only $5 a piece. My girlfriend got the Tom Yum which was also fantastic, and our friend got the Green Curry which came as a huge serving. My husband and I just moved into the neighborhood and was in need to finding the best take out places in the near vicinity. We found this little gem that just opened and decided to give it a try - safe to say, they are now our go-to-take out place. We placed an order over to phone and walked over to pick up. The restaurant is a tiny and cozy, definitely not meant for large groups, best for 1-2 people seating. The kitchen was quick to make the food, but not sparing any quality. The staff is definitely Thai as the food reminded us of our trip to Thailand a couple of years back. We went back yesterday for take out and to try different dishes and it tasted even better. TL:DR, portions are great for the price, Tom yum noodles are pretty good with pho rice noodles. If you just want to grab a small bite, appetizers will give you that quick fix. If you can't handle spicy, they can change it for you. This review will focus on the papaya salad, roti canai, and Tom yum noodles. Papaya salad: if you are a fan of sweet and sour flavors combine with the crunchiness of plant matter, this might be your OTP. I didn't think tomatoes and green beans would fit in a thai cold salad, but there is that local acidity (from cherry tomatoes) and sweetness (from green beans) that ensures that every bite is not the same flavor all over again. Not particularly filling, but it keeps your stomach busy. Roti canai: Thai roti is sweet and flaky. I do enjoy that the roti is more of a thicker crepe style, which makes it less messy when you try to tear it. When you get that sweetness of the roti in combination of the coconut curry dipping sauce they give you, it just makes you want to eat more. A great primer for the bigger dish. Tom yum: Tom yum flavor is like sweet and sour, combined with spice that essentially causes your mouth to water from the flavors bombarding you. I ordered this with the chicken, but I'm sure it will taste the same regardless of any additional meats. In the soup you get an assortment of vegetables and a large helping of vermicelli noodles (the ones you find in pho). The noodle are fine and soak up a lot of the broth between them so you get a strong kick of flavor from the broth. When have this during the 15 degree weather of New York, you can be sure you'll be happy. read more
