We have had take out and we've also eaten in the restaurant several times and each time we've been quite pleased with he food. Take out: The food does not take very long to prepare so you can pick it up rather quickly. Everything (depending on how far you have to travel) is still warm enough to dig right in when you get home and it all tastes good. The serving sizes are pretty average, so if you have a big appetite then you should order a bit more. Dine in: The restaurant is a decently sized place with a lot of tables and a pretty cool decor. There's a big bar and a very chill atmosphere. The service was very friendly and, when we were there, it was not very busy at all. The food came out hot and tasted fresh, everything spiced right where we would want it (sometimes you can end up, at Thai places, getting things REALLY spicy). The serving sizes here are about what you'd expect. The prices are not terrible but, like I said, I think the servings could be a bit larger for take out. In the future I'm sure we'll return for both dine-in and take out. read more

AHHHHH!! I love Thipi Thai!! It's delicious and wonderful and fresh and clean and delicious and wonderful! I can't wait to go back!!! Not only was the service exceptional, the food was great and the prices were just right. Impressive. Who knew this little gem was hidden inside of downtown Glen Ellyn? What a treat. I have been eating a lot of Thai food lately because it's healthier and better than Chinese food at my local restaurant joints, so finding this place was exciting. Our close friends live nearby, so this will hopefully be a place we frequent when we are hanging out with them. Even for takeout. We started with a coconut shrimp app which was 4 shrimp and a perfect little app for two people to share. We should have gotten 2 orders or a second app for our group of 4. The shrimp were fresh, hot and delicious. Two of us ordered the spicy basil chicken. Of course, as I am such a pain in the ass, I had to order it without mushrooms, easy onion and lotsa green bell pepper. My friend ordered it with brown rice and he was happy that he did, and even thought it was an extra $1, it was worth every penny. My meal showed up with all the green peppers as requested, minimal onion and not a mushroom in sight (at least not on my plate). Thank you TT, for taking such care in perfectly preparing my meal. My girlfriend opted for a salmon lo mein dish and she really enjoyed it. There was a ton of fish and she was very pleased. My fiance ordered the lemon grass beef dish and also was very pleased. Who knew he even liked lemongrass? There is a first time for everything, I guess. The bill for the 4 of us, was about $65 and we each had a perfectly satisfying meal. We've eaten at Tipi Thai several times, but not since the pandemic began. Our server was working her first night; she was trying very hard and hopefully will get the experience. The food and drinks(I've stopped consuming alcohol) were absolutely wonderful and the bill was very reasonable. We need to support these local restuarants! Keep up the great work. read more

Second time trying Thai food and my taste buds are SO getting used to it. If you like potstickers, start off with the FRIED potstickers, but be warned, you'll obsess for the next few days. Next time I'm getting an extra order! YUMMM Main course: Seriously, the Green Curry.....hmmmm! Again, the coconut milk offsets the spiciness perfectly! On tippy toes totally tasting Thipi Thai. We took it to go. Very nice room, a Thai place that would be nice to stay and enjoy, we just had other plans for the day. I was hungry and wanted leftovers. So, I ordered enough for 6 people... even though we were only two. The "not so" good first: Two orders of Chicken satay.. $6 each order, four to an order. Pounded thin, they were dry and hard... not enough cucumber salad, very good peanut sauce. We love satay and these would be among the worst we've had. Panang Curry ($11.00, holy cow!) with Chicken, extra spicy. Very tasty, but severely lacking in chicken and bell peppers... like the runniest soupiest Panang Curry we've ever had. The chicken that we could find was dry and hard as well. Not enough white rice for all that sauce. The very good: Pad See Ew (Pad Siew $10.00) with beef, excellent portions... very tasty. Pad Thai with chicken ($10.00) very good, great portion and very good flavor. Also quite attractive even in the to go container. Thai Fried rice with Tofu. ($8.50) Yum, this was very good. We ended up letting a lot of the Panang Curry sauce seep into this.. This is the second time we've been here, and I'm thinking that Satay is not their thing.. I don't remember the Panang Curry being this poorly done before, so maybe we got them at a bad time (middle of the day on Sunday) However, the only reason we went back this time was because the place we wanted to try is closed on Sundays. After a great film (The East) at Glen Art, this was just a short walk away. Great service and the menu is diverse and perhaps best viewed on-line ahead of time... as we were hungry! I was disappointed with some weak hot tea and it was quickly made a bit stronger and the second cup did have a hint of Jasmine. Not sure how long to steep this type tea, or how dark and bold it should be. The food didn't take very long to arrive and an appetizer should have been on our radar, next time. This was my first Thai experience, so I'm no expert but every taste of my shrimp "Garlic Madness" seemed to intensify. It's on the medium spicy scale but not much heat was detected. The garlic flavor was bold but not overbearing. I too love the brown rice option and it went well with the dish. They seemed to have a nice steady flow of customers, for a Saturday night but glad we didn't have to make the climb to the second floor dining area. I can see another visit when another hard to find film makes it way on the scene. There is another brother that operates the La Grange location independantly. First time at this establishment and I must say I loved it! It has to be the best hidden treasure of the Western Suburbs. It is located in downtown Glen Elyn near the Glen movie theatre. Upon entering the restaurant you will be surprised how elegant the restaurants interior is decorated. It seats plenty of people and it has very high ceilings. The food is very fresh, all made at Thipi Thai itself. You can taste the fresh ingredients and the quality of the noodles. I was very impressed that I will be coming back for more :-) read more

I can't remember the last time I had Thai food! Earlier this week I had a lunch meeting with an attorney whose office is in Glen Ellyn down the street from this restaurant and he suggested this place for lunch. On a Monday at 12:30 the place was pretty empty. We got waited on right away and literally IN and OUT for an efficient, yet GOOD lunch. They have plenty of lunch specials all around $7 which are the perfect portion. I ordered the beef pad thai, it was very good. This is the most authentic Thai food in the west burbs I've found so far and really enjoy their green curry, pad see ew, and spicy basil dishes. They don't mess when it comes to spice so if you have a low spice tolerance, I would be cognizant of that when you're ordering and ask for mild if you need that! We really enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere and the food is outstanding. Had the appetizer platter with spring rolls, pot stickers, crab Rangoon, chicken satay and cucumber salad...every item was delicious. I ordered Pad Siew which was very flavorful. Everyone in our group loved their entrées. The only issue that was unpleasant, is every time the bathroom door opened, the whole restaurant smelled like septic/sewage and we were not seated near the bathroom so it was a strong odor. So it's Saturday night and we're trying to figure where to go for dinner before our movie we think we find this cool lil Mexican spot on Yelp, we walk in and it's really jamb packed and everyone was really dressed up so we turn around and leave as we are walking back to our car when we seethis this Thai spot and say f-it why not. We go in and there's about a few tables left the food let me tell ya was amazing perfect flavor perfect temperature on the apps and entrée. When I made a telephone order for pick up, they said they can not use a credit card over the phone to pay and would not give a reason. When I arrived, they charged my credit card an additional 18% gratuity without warning. They said everyone is doing it and I had no say so if I wanted my order. I was what some people would say "Strong Armed" into paying a tip for ZERO services received. Shame on them. I will never support a restaurant who forces a tip on a take out order. Beef lar nard had like 5 slices of beef and only a few broccoli. Flavor was good, however, but once the beef ran out , I just stopped eating it. No side rice included, so it will get tossed. That said, the Chicken pad thai is very good. But overall, way too expensive, and 18% "added no matter what", is excessive. At this point, better off going somewhere else or hate to say it, even getting Panda Express or something. Why pay $40 for a meal for two people, when I get a lot more food at other Thai places in the area (including rice, spring rolls, etc.), or the same amount of food for half off at chain, that will taste just fine for dinner. We ordered six different entrees, from mild to "three fires." When we got the bag home, we found six separate plastic containers...buy none of them was marked what they contained! This made it very hard for us to know whose dish was which one. They should have a plain label they could write each dish's name on, or use permanent marker directly on the plastic lids of the takeout containers. I had the Bangkok Noodles with Chicken. The dish consisted of green beans, bell peppers, broccoli & fresh basil w/ a thin rice noodles sauteed in a red curry coconut milk. It was a perfect mix of flavors! My fiancé had the pad siew (Stir fried fresh noodles, egg & broccoli in a dark brown sweet soy sauce). We've had our fair share of pad siew from multiple places and she had nothing bad to say about it from here. As it was the early afternoon, it wasn't busy and our service was then great too. Pad Thai absolutely a horrible taste as noted by the 4 of us who tried this. We ordered 2 and the extra is still in the fridge...I was tempted to drive it back to them. We don't know what happened there, but would not recommend. Basil chicken with jalapeños had more peppers than chicken. Good taste if you like spicy, but horrible portion for what they charge. Cucumber salad had poor taste 2 orders...would never order this again. Overall, not impressed with this place. I see other reviews and am shocked. We had a group of nearly forty senior citizens there today for a high school reunion luncheon. Thipi Thai did an EXCELLENT job for us. We were all separate bills -- can you imagine!? -- and they hardly missed a beat! Not what it used to be... we had eaten here several times both in the restaurant and take out so we were excited to go again. Wish we didn't. We started with spring rolls, which were weird and gross. Usually spring rolls are either the cold non fried rice paper, or fried egg roll type wrappers. These seemed like they were egg roll wrappers, but not fried. They were grainy and yucky. We actually sent them back - which is something we never do. Instead we got chicken satay, that was equally as disappointing. It was like little slabs of rubbery microwaved chicken on sticks. Not like any chicken satay I've ever had. Entrees were slightly, but not much, better. Noodles were over cooked and sauce had a very vinegar taste to it. Giving Thipi Thai 5 stars is the easiest thing I have done all day. Nay, make that week--and I've been on vacation since Tuesday. Honestly, on a particularly frustrating day in which absolutely NOTHING had gone smoothly or worked out at all (Whole Foods stopped selling taffy apples!), this restaurant is to blame for the much needed relief and delight I'm now basking in. My dear friend had endured her second oral surgery, and while the restaurant had nothing to do with that, even the spiciest curry was enjoyed by her. What a trooper! Scrumptious to the last bite, I was a big girl and finally, for the first time in my life, was able to finish a meal--well noted at dinner by my companion. How could I not, though? This dinner was prepared with me in mind (or just the general population that enjoys food). Broccoli, tofu substituted for chicken, and noodles made this dish the toughest competition for my next Thai venture. Hey remember when Michael Scott compared Scranton to New York and said that New York was Scranton on steroids?? Well besides him getting a "New York slice" at Sbarros, I'd trust his opinion just as you should mine. Yay Thipi! I am very partial to Thai food and this is by far my favorite Thai resturant in the burbies. It located in a cute downtown area and their logo happens to be my BFF;s tattoo! Shes a big fan of the food but primarily elephants. Anyways the food at Thipi is delicious and unique, along with the decor.You get to eat with elephant tipped silverware! It makes your meal just that much more fun:) I usually start my meal with the jasmine hot tea.It really flowery and you get free refills which I appreciate since I can drink a tona tea. Last time my BF and I got a special tofu egg roll appetizer.It came in a lil boat! I wanted to steal it!Then I usually get some sort of vegetarian meal.My favorite is the spicy basil that is extra spicy so be aware.It seved with an ice cream scoop of rice topped with a flower carrot which is so cute I wont eat it. Thipi Thai has been on my list of "to try" places for eons. Although I'm in the Glen Ellyn area somewhat often, somehow Thipi Thai and I seemed to have always missed each other....until my last adventure in to downtown GE. Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was that Thipi Thai is decorated in a nature inspired, contemporary Asian theme. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. And aromas of curry and lemongrass filled the air. So far, I was smitten. Our table of 4 ordered a few appetizers and a couple of entrees. We started with the veggie rolls, super crispy potstickers, coconut shrimp, a cucumber salad, and some Tom Kha Kai soup. The portions were large, the flavors were robust, and those potstickers were unlike any kind I've had before - crispy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside. Did we stop there? Nope....we followed up the appetizers with an order of Thai Fried Rice and Beef on Fire (which yes, the name suits the dish well). One again, we found ourselves with massive portions. One entree can easily serve 2-3 people, with the price of what comparable Thai restaurants will charge for one. Service was fantastic. Our waitress was happy to make accommodations and each dish came out piping hot and just as we had ordered it. While catching up with our fellow diners, we lost track of time and noticed we were still having drinks and chatting well past the close time. We were never asked to leave or finish up. In fact, no one said anything and patiently waited for us to leave. Even when we apologized - the staff was just happy to have accommodated us. Overall: Great customer service. We live a few blocks from Thipi Thai and have had spotty service and food over the years.. Last night we decided to give the restaurant another chance. The meat for two of our three entrees had a burnt flavor and the broccoli in our third entree was extremely overcooked. We ended up throwing out two of the entrees. Came here for lunch today and was extremely disappointed with my dish. I ordered the chicken pad siew lunch special. When the dish came out, I already had a gut feeling it was not going to be good (I've had my share of pad siew since it is my favorite Thai dish). The noodles were soaking in the dark brown soy sauce, almost noodle soup like. I couldn't see any chicken in it and there were about 3 broccoli florets sitting on top of the noodles. The noodles were not flat and wide, but were crumbly and soggy. The sauce was nearly inedible, being overly sweet and salty. There were about 4 thin slices of chicken breast, which I had to wipe the sauce off to feed my toddler, but that's all she got. The server should have been ashamed at serving a pad siew dish like this at a "Thai" restaurant. Thipi Thai is home to perhaps the loveliest menu I have come across in a restaurant. More like a hardbound picture book for children, it features full color pictures of Thai food elements-- lemongrass, eggplant, coconut. Lovely! After such a stunning book-arts moment, however, much else is a let down. The waiter seemed to regard us as an unwelcome intrusion on this quiet Monday afternoon. Did we do something wrong? He got around to smiling at us sometime after we got our food, which was nice of him. Maybe they have a history of people ordering lunches and running away before they're served. Who knows? Spicy Basil Eggplant and Vegetable Delight were both very nice looking and tasty to eat, with appropriate lunch-size servings. The Thai iced coffee was unaccountably bad. I'm not sure what made it so un-nice-- the brand of sweetened milk? It was too-too sweet, as if they had used sugar in addition to sweetened milk or something. I think that if I want Thai, I'll wait till I get home and order Charley Thai Place take-out. In the shrubs I'll stick with lunch-time staples like Panera, Chipotle and Corner Bakery. Went in tonight (6-29) to hop in for a quick take out. Young girl in braces was polite and helpful. While placing my order, 2 other girls were talking about guns, drawing pictures of bullets on the reservation list and wondering when the cops were going to come take them away. Never once acknowledging I was standing 5 feet from them. Paid for the food and waited... got to listen to more of their story. Not sure its great form to curse in front of guests. I loved their service! I was pleased at the way they are so willing and kind to make anY good substitutions. The waitress herself gave me great suggestions.
