The S.O. (MadDog) and I have been searching for some great Thai since moving to the western burbs. We've got a few favorites in the city but so far we haven't had good luck in the suburbs. MadDog recently began working in Western Springs, so we were in the neighborhood and pulled up Yelp to see what looked good. After seeing a few reviews, we decided to check out Thipi Thai. So glad we did! We went during dinner time, but we got seated right away (it wasn't very crowded, at it was nice enough for outside seating to be open.) It took a bit for a waiter to stop by, but it gave us time to check out the decor. It's on the dark side, but otherwise the atmosphere was nice. We felt a bit underdressed, but most of the other patrons were also in casual attire, so don't feel bad if you're not in your date night gear. I ordered my favorite standby, Pad Siew with chicken and MadDog chose the Kung Pow Noodle Chicken based on the suggestions of some Yelpers. We also got an order of crab rangoon because I am a sucker for all things fried cheese-stuffs. Delicious, all around! My Pad Siew was near perfect: sweet, lots of broccoli and chicken. Needed a tiny bit more egg but that's just me. MadDog loved his Kung Pow: it was spicy and very flavorful. He was really happy he browsed the Yelp reviews for ideas. The rangoon was nicely fried, without being too greasy, and the filling was delicious. Thumbs up to the Thai Iced Tea, which MadDog loves and always helps with spicy things. Price wasn't too bad and it was worth it. We'll definitely be back again. Hopefully we won't have ladies next to us chatting about "Fifty Shades of Grey." I swear it's following me from work now. I've been enjoying Thipi Thai for many years as a local patron. The noodle dishes are designed for complexity in taste rounded out with a customizable spicey level to your liking. The atmosphere is gorgeous and I can't wait to go back for the complete dining experience. I tried the Nutty Noodle dish this week and was very disappointed for the first time ever. This is, I believe a new menu item and tasted terrible. The description lists "mixed nuts" which, to a person who enjoys variety, would naturally enjoy and the expectation might be a mixture of peanuts, pecans, cashews, perhaps some almonds -- nuts that compliment each other. No. It's overwhelmed with walnuts. The whole dish tastes like musty, pungent walnuts. I've had delicious Thai noodle dishes from many good and average restaurants and never once experienced walnuts in my dish. Yuck. read more

Delicious! One of the best Thai places in the Chicago suburbs. I've been here for lunch quite a few times and I really enjoy it. The best part is if you go for lunch, you can get true lunch portions for a lunch price. You don't pay a lot and you get just what you'd want to eat for lunch. I always hate when you go out and have to order something huge for lunch because that's the only size they have. I can go here, eat a nice lunch, and not have to worry about having to go home with the leftovers. Also, when the sticky rice and mango is in season, it's the perfect dessert. I've had quite a few noodle dishes, some spicy tofu dishes, and tried a few other things. Everything is always flavorful. My husband's favorite food is Thai and he loves this place. So that should say something, Also, the place is gigantic on the inside and the bathrooms are huge and always clean. Waiters are always friendly and the food always comes out fast. read more

Ordered takeout from thipi last night and every dish was awful, bordering on inedible. Two orders of pad Thai, and the eggs in both dishes were brown burnt and smoky tasting. Other than the smoky flavor the dishes had no taste whatsoever. The crab rangoons were soggy and chewy instead of hot and crispy. Thipi is more expensive than other area Thai places so you would think it would actually be good but not so much. And the portions are small. Not ordering from here again. read more

The quantity of the food is horrible! I have been here before and the quantity was never this less! I am still giving a 2 star for taste but for 3 people the quantity has decreased badly!!! We already knew we have to eat after another hour because we saw the quantity. Last time I came we had leftovers and it was amazing... This time the Pad Thai had less noodles and more of vegetables. We have gone maybe three or four times to this place. They did improve by our last visit, but I was not impressed. Another reviewer referred to the cooking as an American Stir Fry. Our first time, we actually requested spicy and it was almost detectable. We mentioned our lack of seasoning and they brought out the spice tray for us to use. This made the Pad Thai more acceptable, but just. The other knock is the price. Would rather go down the block and around the corner or better yet, south on Lagrange road about 2 miles to Cida Thai! read more

This place WAS 4-star. Portions were large, service was good, prices gave patrons some value. Food is still pretty good, that's why it's not 1 star. To be short and sweet, the service was terrible. Some guy was our waiter that literally only came to our table to take our order, deliver our drinks, and present our check. After waiting more than 35 minutes for our main course after finishing the apps, I had to ask another server if our food was coming. Our waiter signaled to us from the other side of the room that it would be another minute by raising his index finger in the air. Are you serious? Would it be possible that you could walk over and perhaps make something up as to why our meal is delayed? The "so called manager" seemed to be more interested in his haircut and TOMs shoes than he was in our experience. Is there anyone in this restaurant that cares about a little table of 2? First off, I love Thai food. In fact, I love pretty much all Asian food. And although Thipi is not exactly the palce for your true ethnic eating experience, you can still have a great experience. The staff and the atmosphere are always top notch. Not sure if it will change since they will be moving to a much larger place a couple blocks away. Nonetheless, tonight I had to tone down the heat for I took my son out for his bday. We had sesame chicken, basil fried rice, and pot stickers..oh and a cucumber salad. All of which were outstanding. The rice had a little kick for there was diced jalapenos in it. All that said, I love this place and will continue to go. You should to! read more

Unfortunately, Thipi Thai just is not the same place to eat as it once was before. We decided to give this restaurant another try and this time we ordered carry out. Considering we order 3 main dishes and a rice dish, we were sadly disappointed with this place. They really have downsized on their portions and upsized on their prices. If we wanted to buy a vegetarian dishes, I would have opted for that. Meaning there is hardly any meat in the dishes and they loaded up veggies that they serve, baby corn mainly. It is so disappointing when we are expecting great food and great portions, considering prices have increased. The taste unfortunately was completely different as well. Either they are different owners or just do not value having repeated satisfied customers. Will not recommend this place any longer nor go back. read more

So disappointed. Tom Yum soup was below average. I am so used to having super fresh ingredients. It didn't even taste like Tom Yum soup and believe me, I have had several 100 bowls of Tom Yum soup. The papaya salad was disasterous. Limp and bland. No fish sauce, no lime, no dried shrimp. Wah. I had the Thai drunken noodle, I think that is what is called and it was mediocre. Pleasant looking restaurant with pretty atmosphere. Prices seem rather high for Thai food, typically about 50% more than most Thai restaurants. We started with soups. My partner's Tom Ka Kai was very good. My Tom Yum had nice shrimp and two kinds of mushrooms but needed more spice. That was made up by my main dish order of green curry, which was very spicy and very tasty. My partner's rice dish was also good. Not sure it's worth the price, but then La Grange has become rather ritzy and it's located right downtown there. Friendly and prompt service. read more

I'm here visiting this great City and I ended up getting the worst waiting time for To Go food. I phone in my order in hopes that by the time I arrive to the (20mins) restaurant my food would be ready...but it wasn't so I had to wait another hour after my initial call and i was getting the run around about my food still being cooked and almost ready..smh I would not recommend this place to anyone. We switched to Thipi Thai after our former Thai place kept messing up our orders and delaying our delivery. Thipi Thai is our new go to Thai restaurant. The food is flavorful and they actually make it spicy when requested. The Panang curry is my go to dish. read more

I needed to eat lunch fairly quickly between movie viewing at LaGrange Theater. After previously wandering around the suburb's downtown, I had spotted this Thai spot. I loved the colorful signage, by the way. I entered the restaurant around 2 p.m. or so on a Wednesday. The decor was impressive and I was surprised at the large size of the dining area. I took a closer look at the prices, which seemed about a dollar or two above what I'd usually pay. It was a toss up between going to Noodles & Co. (where I've rarely been disappointed) and trying something new for a similar price point. I elected to stay. I was seated promptly near the front window after I decided. Uh oh. I found out that I was the only customer in the restaurant. I wasn't overly concerned because I had seen several dinner diners (at least by the window) the other day. Later into the meal, a couple of women were seated near me. Again, I went against my usual taste test of Pad Woon Sen and decided on PAD KEE MAO WITH TOFU, mildly spiced ($10). I was pretty disturbed that ordering shrimp with most dishes increased the price at least $6. The dish arrived promptly. The serving size was filling and justified, but not as large as I was used to receiving in Thai restaurants. The major let down was the tofu. It was fried to dryness, seemingly re-heated. Let's just say it didn't scream fresh. The spice was done as requested, but I didn't care for the dish that much. I elected to go to Noodles & Co. a couple of days later when I needed a quick lunch instead. I ordered the Pesto Cavatappi with Shrimp. It had a fresh taste and the plentiful shrimp were cooked perfectly. Yes, it was a different cuisine and fast food, but I got my basil AND shrimp fix satisfied. We used to love this place but the last couple time our food has been so sugary and sweet! It doesn't matter what we order,the sauces all taste overly sugary and way too sweet . Not sure what is going on but we are gonna have to find a new Thai place unfortunately. We brought family there today and we all ordered different dishes and everyone said their food was sickly sweet. read more

Bland Food, Slow Service. I mentioned to the waitress that My wife h ad a wheat allergy and asked if a dish had any flour in it. She said all their tofu was made with flour!?! I asked her to verify this. She came back saying, no there was no flour in the tofu. Clearly not someone who has a clue about food. All three of us ordered different dishes. All were bland - the thipi noodles, pad thai and a special sesame dish in which I couldn't taste any sesame, just the cloyingly sweet sauce. We waited 15 minutes for a waitress to take our order then had to go find someone to ask for a bill at the end of the meal. After being served no one ever came back to our table to check on anything. We don't eat out often so this was a big disappointment. Won't be going back, that's for sure. read more

I went back recently and found it a nice experience. I still love the decor, the staff seemed friendlier, the food was good and plentiful. I had the lettuce wraps. I thought it was strange to serve iceberg lettuce with this but it was good. read more

One star is too high, in my opinion. We have not been here in a while and thought we would reconnect with what once was a good restaurant. When the host initially started to seat us next to a table of uncontrollably, loud, screaming children, we should have left. After being relocated to the don't window, 25 minutes passed with no server addressing our table. Was the restaurant crowded, you ask? No! It was not crowded. Shame on the clueless host who smiled at us when I informed him of the situation and left. Way too many great Thai restaurants out there to even think about stepping foot in there again! read more

My kids took me there on Mother's Day and I had the Pineapple Curry, and it was amazing. Definitely want to go there again.

Thipi Thai is the best of the best. It don't get no better than this. Great food and drink menu. I recommend you keep coming back until you've tried all the menu items. read more

This place is adorable. I stopped in here on a week night, and was seated in the front part of the restaurant. They have a very cozy and comfortable feeling to this place, and it makes you feel very welcomed. Their food is above average, and our server was on top of everything. I'm giving Thipi Thai 3 stars to even out my two completely different experiences on 2 different nights. This evening's carry-out was aweful. Deserving of 2 or less stars. The lard nar was not really edible. It was a soupy sour mess. Nothing in it tasted fresh or as it should. The chicken satay was fine except it seems like they left out a couple sticks of chicken. The woman at the front desk was a real pill, too. Too bad. The first time my husband and I went there I was pretty excited about it. 2 stars tonight. read more

Wonderful little Thai restaurant! Reasonably priced, good portion sizes, great food! My favorite is the Red Curry.

what a great find we just left here we were on our way home and both Hungry, so I threw out some Ideas to the BF and he said Thai, and the first place we tried was closed, oh well there loss as we found this little gem got the Shumai (Crab Dumplings) for a starter they were good, I really liked them the BF wished we had gotten Crab Rangoon oh well more for me, oh but he did eat his share still ha ha I had the Chicken Garlic Madness nice tender and juicy pieces of Chicken with Carrots and Broccoli in a brown sauce with rice it was very good and filling I am used to the food at Thai places coming out to share so this was different as we each got our own plate and not to share style I also got the Coffee layered Pie it was good also I want to go back and try the Orange Beef as that was one of my favorite dishes to get in Seattle they don't offer chopsticks you have to ask for them, that was kinda weird also I am used to having to ask for a fork if I want one read more

The food was terrible. Lettuce wraps served with a quarter wedge of lettuce (had a bug on it), a chiçken substance that looked like dog food and a brown sauce... that's it!!! Gross. Spring rolls drenched in sauce... I mean drenched in this gross looking gel. Service was awful. 3 tables, 2 servers and the manager. No one came around to fill drinks. Forgot chop sticks. Asked a couple of times. Eventually came. Took forever to get anything... and since they forgot everything... well, it was a slow meal. Thankfully the company was great! Oh man. I'm not very adventurous with food. I tend to stick with the "safe" Italian or American/steakhouse cuisine. I've never eaten Thai food before. So when the hubby and I decided to do a double date in La Grange with some friends, I wasn't sure where we'd end up. We met at the theater and decided to just walk until we found something we could all agree on. The exterior is what first caught my eye....we parked in the big lot by the train tracks, and walked to meet our friends at the theater, taking in all the restaurants on the way. Thipi Thai was of course the first restaurant we saw, and it was definitely appealing. We met our friends at the theater and walked all the way back, past all the restaurants in La Grange, with my hubby kind of nudging everyone back to this Thai place. Like I said, I've never eaten Thai food before, so I was a little nervous. We ended up back at Thipi and after checking out the menu....surprisingly we all agreed on it! Can I just say....the crab rangoon....OMFG. Amazing. I will go back there JUST to eat that dish. I only had one because we all split it, but I definitely could have ordered that just as my dinner. I've had crab rangoon before, but NEVER this good. I'm starting to drool just remembering how awesome it was. As my entree, I had the Garlic Madness with beef...I'm a garlic freak, so anything called "Garlic Madness" is going to catch my eye. I was almost disappointed because it wasn't as garlicky as I had hoped, and also not as spicy (it had one pepper next to it on the menu, but apparently I'm a little more tolerant of spiciness as I had thought, because I didn't detect ANY spicy at all), but it was still super delicious. Especially because they were able to add baby corn to it....OMG I love baby corn. But I think next time I'm going to order the other garlicky entree I saw with two peppers next to it. I was afraid it might be too spicy, but after tonight I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with it. Dessert?? OMG. We had the Thai Basket (I think that's what it was called) with the bananas and chocolate wrapped in a wonton and served in some raspberry rum sauce....OMG TO DIE FOR. I didn't think I had any room for it, until I took a bite...and then another bite....and then another bite! WOW. I will definitely be back. Even if I only get the Frenchtini and Crab Rangoon. So, I'm back in the Chicago burbs, and I'm searching for amazing Thai food. This is the second Thai restaurant I went to around the Downers Grove area, and I'm disappointed!!! The restaurant is located in downtown La Grange, and parking wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The restaurant decoration was beautiful and exceeded my expectations. We were quickly seated and our server took our order. I ordered a Tofu Pad Thai (medium spicy) with an order of egg rolls. The egg rolls took awhile to come out, but it was worth the wait. The skin was fried perfectly with the wonderful Thai sweet/sour sauce. It was great. We continued to wait for our entree and noticed that the other patrons were just getting their food. Finally, the server brought us our Pad Thai (after at least 35mins of ordering)! One bite, and I regretted ordering this dish. The tamarind sauce is overpowering the entire dish. It was very very sweet and not even a little bit spicy. I was very disappointed! The portion was good and presentation was nice. I drank lots of water and managed to swallow the rest of the food. After we were finished, it seemed like forever before the server brought us our check and took our money. I would definitely budget a full 60 minutes if you would like to dine here. Unfortunately, I will not be returning; the drive is too long for sub-par food. Sorry Thipi! read more

I grew up in the heart of the city, and have enjoyed Thai food since way before it was even popular. Finding authentic dishes is difficult in the burbs, and this place is awesome. Clean, nice staff, cute bar area. read more

Yesterday I ordered a regular order of basil chicken. My first time ordering from them. It was takeout. When I got it home and started eating it it was packed with garlic. I absolutely love garlic. The more the better. But this..... this dish was in inedible. I may as well of been given a bowl filled with chopped garlic with soy sauce on top of it. Absolutely disgusting and they should be ashamed for serving a dish like this. I'll never order from them again, and you shouldn't either. The fact that this was my first time ordering from them and they struck out so badly gave me the inclination not even to let them correct the issue. I'd rather just put it here for you to read. So, if you like chopped bowls of garlic with soy sauce on top of them. Order from these guys. They serve the best. read more

Been disappointed two out of two times. The food didn't seem thai to me- more of a American stir-fry with no kick whatsoever.I can only remember vegetables. The food had no flavor. My memories are of stir fried vegetables(I'm not a vegetarian). read more

Exceptional Thai Food, friendly atmosphere and good service! The owner definitely promotes a sense of community, especially by supporting the local elementary school. The Sixth grade Cossitt Kid's loved their fried rice from Thipi Thai at the recent CCC event. La Grange is lucky to have such a delicious restaurant! read more

I came here as part of restaurant week, which was such a great promotion! For $20 we got an appetizer, soup and an entree. For the appetizer, we chose the Thai egg rolls, 4 crispy little rolls with chicken and cabbage inside- yummy!! The soup was a wonton soup, which I don't have a lot of experience with, but I found the broth bland. It was a large portion, with lots of carrots and cabbage in it. The wontons were a little mushy and fell apart. The main entree was tofu pad Thai- large portion, lots of tofu, and lots of veggies on top. I enjoyed it and had a serving for leftovers. It was nice to find out that it was also half price wine day (Sunday) so we had a good bottle of Sauvignon blanc for $17. Our server was a little bit abrupt, but I've dealt with worse. My boyfriend and I used our groupon here for lunch. We did the Thai sample platter and we had chicken pad siew and beef pad siew. The potstickers - AMAZING. So much better than your average/small frozen generic ones. These ones are breaded and stuffed and possibly the best thing ever. The pad siew dishes were good/standard. The bf got his a little spicy which I think added some great flavor. Pricing was pretty reasonable. It's a great area and perfect for a date! read more

Personally I think this place is over priced for Thai food, but it is good. I like the curries here and noodle dishes are quite tasty too. My kids love eating here or ordering out from here, but again its too expensive for Thai food like this. However, I have yet to find a Thai restaurant that tastes decent that is close to home and that's not in ChiTown! I rate this 3.5 as opposed to 3 stars. read more

*Vegans Beware* This place has great food. My only issue is that although, I am not a Vegetarian nor Vegan but I'm sure they would like to know what I'm about to say. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai. There was a lot of tofu mixed in with my food. When I asked the server why, he only apologized. I asked the manager if the tofu was seasoned with the chicken and he would not tell me. He too would only apologize. The ratio of chicken to tofu was pretty much the same. I told him if I were a Vegetarian or Vegan I would not appreciate my tofu being seasoned with meat. I would be cautious of ordering the tofu from this place. read more

On Sunday we placed an order at 5:20, eventually they gave me my "partial" pick up order at 7:55!! I will never go back to this establishment EVER!!! I had to fight to get my money back, which she informed me that I would have to call the website, which by the way is their website, in the morning to get my money back! I refused to do that and after a heated argument she gave me some cash back! I have never been treated so poorly! What a horrible experience!!! read more
