Last minute stop-in and we were very pleasantly surprised. Both pizzas were cooked with just the right amount of heat to be firm but not burnt. The red sauce on the Zep (my favorite) had a little sweetness to it. I'm so happy they use COLD banana peppers too- that's exactly how I make it at home. It's such a refreshing contrast. I was a bit disappointed. The pizza was a bit bland, no real flavor. I ordered the chicken and pepperoni and the chicken also had no flavor. It is a big size for the cost but the fact that it's lacking flavor it's not worth it. The server wasn't super friendly and just had us sit and we waited a little before even getting a menu. Once we got the menu we ordered the food but he didn't even bother to ask what beverage. I did notice that he was a lot friendlier and open to explain things to other customers that came after us. My son asked for pizza after we visited the Riverfest. Several people had mentioned how good the pizza was and it was right at the corner. Ordered a maple bacon pizza and a coconut custard cup....$30 total seemed like a lot but I was thinking the pizza would be a good size. $20 for a thin personal size pizza to me is pricey but my son said it was really good. [Coronavirus review] This place is open during corona, though I found it confusing that they are apparently running out of the back porch; signs seemed to suggest if you wanted frozen custard you should go to the front, but that was closed off and no one was there, so I went to the back and got in line with the pizza folks. It does seem like most people are reviewing the pizza (a long rectangular creation), but the sign says pizza and frozen custard, and I wanted dessert. The banana split I ordered was a rather magnificent-looking mess that drew looks from other people in the local park; someone asked me where I got it and went straight over. This dish was an entire banana with custard and sauce, but also quite a few other preserved fruits; if you're going to indulge in sugar, might as well get it from fruit. Found this spot visiting Occoquan for the first time. First off, it's definitely a pet and family friendly spot. This is a great option as it allows you to try two of many interesting styles. Today, we got the Diablo and Maple Bacon. Of the two, I would recommend the Maple Bacon. It had a strange flavor consistency but in a good way. It was sweet and savory. The Diablo sounded and looked good but it just didn't match up to the maple bacon in flavor. In fact, the Diablo was mostly flavorless. It was fine but just not what I was expecting from the menu description. It lacked the spice that was advertised. If you have time to spare to sit and relax, then this place is ok, but if you're looking for a quick dine in, then make sure to either order ahead so when you get there your order would be ready for you to enjoy. We did save room for their custard which surprisingly I was able to finish. They have various flavors to anyones liking and it was super soft. My husbands diablo was missing the spicy sauce & the habanero) and then that order was completely messed up too. We emailed again- no response again. They have a great product, when they get it right, but unfortunately that's not reliable anymore. And their customer service didn't even respond. And worth mentioning- the customer service on sight is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. They will walk right past you & never speak to you. You have to basically beg someone to take your order- and they take their phones off the hook when they're busy. To be quite honest, this place overall was quite a disappointment. From the ambiance to the food, every aspect of this establishment left you wanting to leave. The sauce and dough were extremely generic. Nothing about the pizza made it worth the hefty $19 price tag. We were both expecting a much larger and more tasty treat. Unfortunately, while this whole experience might have been better on a non-holiday, it is clear to see that the current management/owners do not know much about pizza (the primary dish) and are simply another pizza joint that we will be sure to avoid. Went here for an afternoon dinner. They were relatively busy. Food was okay. 5/10. Service was absolutely horrendous 1/10. Ambiance was nice 8/10. Service- horrible service and they are understaffed. I saw maybe 3 people working the floor. But they ignore you, walk right pass you, don't acknowledge you until you say something or try to flag them down. Wait time from being seated to getting our order taken was like 15 minutes. We waited maybe another 15 minutes to get our drinks. The waters did come out almost immediately though. When I went in to asked how much longer the food was going to take- the server gave me attitude and asked if she was my server. My food wasn't even in the oven then. We spent way longer sitting around waiting and actual time spent eating. Other people were waiting awhile as well. We saw a couple who had placed an order for food online and have been waiting awhile . No one checked up on them and when they finally flagged someone down- their food wasn't even made. They got up and left. No one updated us on wait times. Food- We ordered the meat lover pizza and the Bavarian cheese board. The meat lover pizza looked delicious but it was average at best. Nothing special about it and overpriced. You can get a better tasting pizza at &pizza. It wasn't worth the wait and poor service/ the Bavarian cheese board tasted better. The pretzel was crispy on the outside and super side on the inside. Slightly over salted but really tasty. Once again- completely overpriced. You can some cheap cuts of cheese and some ice cream topping jam. Not worth the cost and the poor service. Ambiance- nice spot with good amount of outdoor seating. Lots of bathrooms to use downstairs and upstairs. I will not be returning. As we were winding down our 8-day East Coast Americana Tour with our last day in Virginia, we decided to visit the historic town of Occoquan, Virginia to explore the shops and try what some are saying the best apple pie at Mom's Bakery. We had explored all the tourist spots in Washington DC, so we decided to check out Occoquan based on the recommendation from a server at one of the first restaurants we had eaten at in Alexandria, Virginia. After walking around the town, we decided to eat lunch at Third Base Pizza & Frozen Custard because we were craving pizza and so glad that we did. Occoquan is a quaint town established in 1604 and it was interesting to read about its history. My buddy and I enjoyed walking around the town and wandering around the town's shops. If we hadn't filled our suitcases with the bounty of souvenirs, I know we would have purchased items at the many stores that had intriguing knick knacks. After walking around, we decided to eat lunch at Third Base because we had been talking about eating pizza, which was a cuisine we had not eaten at during our entire trip. Third Base is a restaurant within a yellow paneled house that has a charming porch. There is seating inside as well as outdoor seating, but we chose to dine inside due to how cold it was outside. We were the first customers of the day, so we were seated immediately. I loved the inside decor with the wood beams in the ceiling, the wood paneling on the wall, and the distressed brick. You have to try out a restaurant that has a John Cena WWE wrestling figure as part of its decor. Out of the different cuisines my buddy and I ate at in the four cities we visited, we had not feasted on Italian specifically pizza. Pizza was on our mind when we cane upon Third Base, so we decided to satisfy our craving. After perusing the menu, which has a slew of Signature Pizzas, we decided on the Meat Lover pizza, but decided to add mushrooms and onions to make that pizza a little more healthy. The Meat Lover pizza is described as an authentic artisan crust with delicious sauce made from San Marzano plum tomatoes and their blend of special spices, add shredded mozzarella, sopressata, crisp bacon, pepperoni, sliced Italian sausage, basil pesto and Parmesan cheese for a meat lover's dream. It definitely was a meat lover's dream, but I recommended mimicking us by adding the mushrooms and onions. When the pizza came out, it wasn't your typical round pizza, but it was horizontal and on top of a wooden board. The pizza was beautiful, but even more tasty than it looked. All of the toppings were savory, the meats cooked perfectly, and along with the crust, that pizza was memorable and yummy. If you want to change up your Washington DC trip, I recommend you check out Occoquan, Virginia for its history and shopping. The soft serve isn't good at all. Our first order was cheesecake and chocolate and it just tasted strongly like coconut. It had that odd texture that overly processed ice creams with too many stabilizers have. The other order was German chocolate and it tasted nothing like chocolate, although to be honest, it was hard to taste almost anything after taking a bite of the coconut. They also rang up the second order as two flavors even though it was only one, so they charged us extra. I've never had clams on a pizza, but wow what a standout. It's really different from anything else I've tried and the pizza is incredibly unique tasting. The ambiance was pretty great, we sat outside, and a nice man came to start a fire for us, which was really really nice on a cold winter day. There was the option to sit inside, but again due to social distancing, we prefer to sit outside if possible. My one star off has to do with the price. This place is ... EXPENSIVE. I think maybe because it's Occoquan, or maybe it's the ingredients? I don't know, but it ended up being about $20 PER PIZZA, before tax + tip. Ended up being about $50 for two people, for LUNCH. It was an appropriately socially distanced lunch with friends at the restaurant-- and that's a lot to ask during these abnormal times. Also, I got the gluten free/cauliflower crust (extra $2.25), which looks considerably smaller than the regular pizza, but is still incredibly filling and delicious. Perhaps with less space to work with on the pizza, all the toppings are still there and there's a bit of pizza flavor in every bite. Restaurants with GF options are always nice to have. Non-gluten free pizzas are rectangular and fit on the entire board size of the pizza. I think this place is worth it, just definitely not everyday and maybe not even every week, but if it's a special occasion and I'm in the mood for some gourmet pizza, I'll come back to third base pizza. read more

I was very excited to try but I am a little disappointed with what I received. I ordered half Italian and half zep flatbread pizza as well as a banana split. The pizza was pretty good however for the price I was expecting something of higher quality. It was very similar to &pizza but more expensive and not worth the price increase. Meats were good. I love the little neighborhood area this place is in -- small and cozy. Third Base is situated in a house that looks so homey and residential we had to do a double take to make sure it was the right place. Upon coming in, we were greeted and were able to pick our own seats. Menu had creative options and also gave the option to build our own pizza! I ordered the spicy speziato (Italian salami, spicy tomato sauce, fresh basil, and mozzarella) and was very happy with my choice. The spicy tomato sauce was definitely the highlight of my pizza and it really tied all of the flavors together nicely. My favorite part of this meal is that everything tasted so freshly made and obviously from high quality ingredients. I also loved the presentation of the pizza and how the portions seem huge but each slice is thin. Service was excellent and overall we had an awesome time at Third Base.
