Stopped in here to grab a drink before our late dinner reservation and we were pleasantly surprised. The bartenders were very welcoming when we walked in, so we ended up sitting at the bar. I got the Tea Thyme and my boyfriend got the Third Rail. Both of these drinks were well balanced and really delicious. In addition to our drinks, we also decided to try some of their jerky as an appetizer. We got the Sonoma, Mighty and Sriracha flavors. I really liked the Sonoma jerky and my boyfriend liked the Mighty. Would definitely recommend trying some of the jerky when you go! read more

I got the Scottish fizz which was tasty and well balanced. For the jerky, we opted for the sampler with included the mighty, sriracha, red eye, and sonoma. My fiance's brother recommended this place when we came up for a visit. It's tucked away off the main drag, so you definitely won't see it unless you're looking for it. Dimly lit with candles at every table. Cool vibe. They have a deal called the "Rail Shot." It's only $10 for a shot, a beer and a taste of their homemade jerky! Several options for each item. I've been wanting to come to Third Rail for awhile, but it never crossed my mind since it's on a side street I never walk by. One of Dogpatch's hidden gems, you could say? My friend and I came here in the late afternoon for a few drinks. It wasn't too busy, but the best menu item (the Third Rail Shot) takes awhile to prepare. For $10, you get a half shot, half beer, and piece of jerky. Great deal! My favorite combo was the IPA, bourbon, and mighty jerky. Just remember to tip the bartender well. We had a great conversation with the bartender. I think her name is Shannon? Anyways, she made us feel like regulars, which we just might become. Good variety of cocktails, fresh bar snacks, and beers on tap. There's a variety of seating around the room, perfect for groups or solo adventure-seekers. Best of all, it's next to the Muni T line, which I take from where I live. It's not too busy in this neighborhood. And that whole bar trifecta I mentioned earlier is dog-friendly! Solid cocktails, nice bartenders, and delicious jerky. Whether you prefer stirred and more boozy cocktails or more refreshing options, Third Rails has both. They also make good recommendations including off menu options if you're looking for something different. The Rails Shot is also a good option - a shot, a half pint of beer, and a little bit of jerky. It'd be cool if they had more tap options (they generally have an IPA, a stout, a pale ale, and a Kolsch I think) but with so many great cocktails I guess it's not really needed. They also change the cocktails a bit with the seasons which is cool. Overall definitely a solid bar with good cocktails and one of my favorite spots in SF. It was my first time hanging out in dogpatch and I'm soooo glad we found Third Rail as it's such a cute hidden gem! My friend and I came before dinner and tried their cocktail & jerky. We got the Escape to Jerez & Tally Ho - they were $13 each and came in great presentation and tasted great! We also ordered one of their many jerky selections (Grandma Frances)- it was $4/ounce and was a great snack food to pair with our cocktails. Fun and Funky Place! I got the "special" for $10 and it consisted of my choice of a 1/2 beer, a shot and a couple slices of jerky. Really neat little spot in the Dogpatch neighborhood if you want to grab a drink and hangout. It's kind of hidden so you really got look for it or you'll miss it. I've Came here a few times to hangout and last time was for a coworkers birthday party. Came here with my friend after we did a first round at The Sea Star next door. The first thing that stood out to me upon walking here was the lighting. It was brighter than most bars I've been to which created a very friendly atmosphere. The bartender was very cordial and we connected over the fact that we both lived in Hawaii at some point.. I can't say much about the in house drinks because we got canned cider and sour ale. One unique thing about the place is their focus on different types of jerky. I loved coming here pre-COVID because of the cozy, chill vibe and can't wait until that's open again - but I'm glad to hear they've been able to figure out an outdoor situation that works well for the time being. The street they're on doesn't get much sun and it can get a bit chilly and the outdoor setup isn't anything fancy, but the cocktails were so good! We got the bottle for 3 drinks of the mezcal, tequila cocktail and it was smooth and strong. Great combo. You have to order food for now, but they've partnered with Wooly Pig, which I also love, so that was a great deal. In the past I've only really tried different beers and bourbons but I am now a huge fan of the cocktails and I look forward to going back. With a new bar popping up almost every month in SF serving "artisan" cocktails, something needs to stand out from the rest; whether it be the concept, the product, or the amazing service. Sorry, but the only thing that stood out about Third Rail was the ridiculously easy, free street parking. The staff at Third Rail weren't very friendly. The cocktail menu was nothing out of the ordinary but they do sell jerky for $2.50-$3 an ounce. The cocktail menu is split up to four sections: aperitif, seasonal, citrus, and spirituous. All cocktails are $10. CC's accepted. My first cocktail (601) was horrible and tasted like star anise which wasn't listed on the menu description. I've never sent a drink back before but my friend insisted after he took a sip of it and thought it was awful. I got a replacement drink (Tally Ho) which then tasted like drinking straight lime juice. Very poorly balanced cocktails. *le sigh* Nothing worse than wasting booze right? There are mostly brown-color liquors if you prefer it straight (looks like they carry good top-shelf bourbon and whiskies too). Their snacks selection is pretty original and thanks to their accessible prices you will be able to have fun trying many of them! Cajun (3/5): If you like sweet, this could be your choice. Otherwise, go for the others options. Mighty Meat (4/5): Their most solid option. It is fatty and spicy enough but not too much. A true mighty meat! Sriracha Jerky (4/5): If you cannot handle spicy, this is not for you. Probably my favorite! Sonoma Smoke (3.5/5): This was the favorite snack of my table. However, and maybe I'm more sensitive to the dry flavor of the prosecco, I mostly just tasted the prosecco. It was also a pretty light drink, but to be fair, I asked Jeff for a ginger drink that was not too boozy (the Tally Ho is the other ginger one) and he said the Aperitifs are the lighter drinks). SEASONAL: * Sweet Thang - 4.5 stars (Tito's Vodka, pomegranate, thyme, white pepper, lemon) Love the sprig of thyme sticking out of this drink. It has the unique effect of allowing you to smell it every time you take a sip, which adds to the flavor in a totally unique and wonderful way compared to if it were mixed in. The pomegranate was the strongest flavor, and it was boozy but didn't taste so much so. * Harvest Moon - 3.5 stars (Pueblo viejo blanco tequila, Asian pear, kubler absinthe, lime) The tequila definitely stood out in the flavor here - not as sharp in flavor as the Sweet Thang, more mild, more mellow, but also well balanced if you love tequilas. Bone crusher - GET IT! I love the idea of whiskey and jerky pairings, so genius! I generally like my jerky less dry, but my favorite part about their jerky selection was their unique flavors. The espresso flavored jerky and salami were incredible. We didn't have much else except the bone crusher so I can't speak to the other cocktails. Third Rail addressed these needs of mine perfectly. I arrived at 8:30pm on a Friday night, and there was abundant seating, and maybe around three or four small parties already there. I went to Third Rail with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and I was really impressed. The space itself is a cute bar area with tables around the space for bigger parties or if you don't want to sit at the bar. Both of us started with the Rail Shot which is your choice of a beer, a shot (bourbon, tequila, mezcal, or fernet), and then a pick of a jerky for only $10. Such a great deal! After trying the jerky we decided to order a few more drinks and split the large jerky sampler. All of the jerky flavors were really really good but of course we had our favorites. My personal favorite was the Mighty and the Sriracha but all of them are a must try. The bartenders were very attentive and really very nice. The atmosphere of the bar was great, it wasn't too loud and was very easy to have a conversation. I highly recommend each one I tried: Diplomat with Maedira fortified wine (putting cardamoms on the orange peel was a cool touch), the lemony Third Rail, Lochness with cinnamon and apple, and a perfectly executed Manhattan. In addition to cocktails, I sampled a number of their beef jerky. Sriracha flavored beef jerky was my favorite. I have never had beef jerky accompanying cocktail drinking (instead of nuts for instance) before and enjoyed it a lot. They also let you being your food, too! The ambience was also cool. A fantastic neighborhood bar. At the moment it serves tiki drinks, as well as its signature jerky. There's a few outdoor seats, then a handful of tables inside. There's a good balance of spirit-forward drinks and more light drinks, especially now that it's tiki season.
