The person taking names was taking bribes to take others in front and she literally told us those words. This is one of the coolest speakeasies in San Diego! The interior is so creative and immersive--from when you walk in, you are transported into a westworld feeling universe between the wallpaper, seating, decor, art, and buffalo on the wall. The menu is extensive and extremely creative. Every drink we had was delicious and interesting. Very well crafted and came out quick. Toxic love was one of the more unique tequila dessert-like drinks I've ever had. If you like cookies, you'll like this drink. Our waitress made great recommendations and was very personable. I'd fix the business hours, we rarely go out and been excited to see this place. Walked and got in at 10:30, hours say it's closed at midnight. Was told they're at full capacity by the manager and closed, asked if people walked out, if we could go in, cause we'd wait at crush and brew and was told no. Saw a couple walk out a minute later which would fit us in, but it's obv they wanted to close early so they could get off work. 10:40 and couldn't get in cause they're at "full capacity" while people were leaving the place. The vibe with all the decor is great. As a bourbon collector/drinker I found this place to have a decent variety and that was the type of bar I was looking for. It's hard to see exactly what they have on the top mid shelf so know what you're looking for. My wife and I sat at the bar and the bartender seemed to not really want to serve us. It wasn't busy at all and she was busy talking to others. Didn't seem to pay us any attention. I think her name was Karli. I did meet Justin whom was friendly and helpful. I ended paying $35 for a 2oz neat pour of Bookers 8 year and $20 for a 2oz neat pour of Old Fitzgerald. We found an extra drink on our check that we never ordered but that was corrected. Ok this place is a must try. These were the best drinks I've had in old town easily. The service was great. The mixologist are incredible. After you order a drink or two, the server and the mixologist have your number. Just ask them to make you something custom and they hit every time. The menu is original and you'll have a great time trying unique and tasty drinks. I have had very poor service the few times I have gone. The last visit was the worst. I walked over and put my name down for a table for 2 and was told that it would be about 45 minutes to be seated. That was close to their closing time, but my girlfriend and I just went to the restaurant to have some food while waiting. After waiting about 40 minutes and clarifying that they would be closing soon, I walked over to see if I could talk to the hostess and waited almost 10 minutes. When I was approached and told that they were now closed, I just suggested that maybe they should be open and tell prospective customers that if the wait time was going to be close to closing time, then maybe they should just be honest with the people and let them know that they may not be able to seat them. I got attitude and then was approached by a male employee asking if there was an issue, I said "yes" and maybe we could talk out of the area we were in. As we walked out of the hallway, the guy just turned and walked into the Crush & Brew bar area. This is the poorest service I have ever experienced at a Speak Easy and I have been to many across the country now. I don't even know if I would go to have food at Crush & Brew any more. read more

This cool little speakeasy is tucked inside a restaurant and can be found behind a big red door. As you enter, you'll have to push past the vault door in order to enter the bar area. The entire experience is set in an old western kind of vibe, with cool decor touches, like wanted, posters and mismatching antique chandeliers. The drinks we had were pretty reasonably priced and well balanced, but a tad on the stronger side (I wasn't complaining at all.) our waiter was super attentive and friendly. My friend and I were coming up to the area for a Yelp event and figured we should make the most of our time in Temecula so we looked up some speakeasies in the area hoping we'd be able to get in! Most of them were pretty booked out but figured we could drop our names on a waitlist and test our luck. Well, Santa's Electric Parade was also in town and what started out being a major detour inconvenience led to us having no wait to get into Thompson & Twain!! While everyone was at the parade, we got ourselves into this awesome little gem. We got two drinks initially, I got the Right As Rain and Flying Machine and my friend got a couple drinks from the spirit forward side of the menu. All our drinks were amazing. We then needed to head over to get our food from our Yelp event but let them know if they had space we'd love to come back for another round. Lucky for us, we were able to snag a couple seats at the bar and ordered our final round of drinks. I ended up getting the Cryptic Stranger and honestly the drinks here are so strong I only drank about half of this one and my friend finished the other half along with his drink. Such a fun little speakeasy! Located in the back of Crush and Brew behind a hidden door (of course), you'll find a cute Southwestern-themed space. We arrived at 5pm, right when they opened, to get a table for four. There were three menus available - happy hour (which consisted of basic cocktails like a mule or and old fashioned for $10), speciality cocktails (about 12 or so options for $16), and a holiday drink menu (probably another 8-10 options for about $16). We all tried a different cocktail for our first round, but everyone loved the espresso martini so much we each got one for the second round. Sheilahn was our server and she was awesome! So friendly and helped us choose our drinks. It did get busy pretty soon after we arrived so I recommend going early if you want a shorter wait. read more

We had an unforgettable experience thanks to Karli, the bartender, who introduced us to some of the most original and flat-out delicious cocktails I've had anywhere. Each drink had its own personality--balanced, bold, and totally unexpected. You can tell this place puts real thought into their menu. Yes, there was a bit of a wait to get in, but the team handled it like pros. They gave us 10% off at Crush Brewery while we waited (which is the bar that cleverly hides the entrance to the speakeasy), and that small gesture showed the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back. And come back we did. The vibe inside Thompson & Twain is just cool as hell. Moody, intimate, with a perfect mix of mystery and comfort. I was genuinely shocked by the pretentiousness and condescension exhibited. Having traveled extensively, I have never encountered such a dismissive and ignorant environment, especially in a place like Temecula, California. Upon arrival, we were informed of a three-hour wait, only to be texted 24 minutes later. When seated, the staff claimed we had only reserved for two, despite our party of four, and accused us of "sneaking in" due to their own error. The bartender's hostility was unwarranted and unprofessional. The drinks were subpar; the "Münchensen on Prime" tasted like burnt rubber, and requesting a simple Old Fashioned was met with resistance because it wasn't on the menu. Four drinks cost $70, which is exorbitant given the quality. To top it off, the hostess informed us, "Last call is at 11:30, and we kick people out by 12/12:15," a statement that felt more like a threat than a courtesy.
