Every summer to be exact (family tradition) we always go here every time we are at the Boardwalk.it was those traditional things Marylanders and tourists alike tends to do. They gravitate to these fries , lines are long but very quick. You also have choices of sprinkling vinegar to your fries or do you want it on the side. I absolutely love the taste of malt vinegar so I go heavy on the vinegar and lightly sprinkle it with salt. Besides the amazing iconic taste of these OCMD boardwalk fries, I also love the experience of getting them. There are several locations to get these fries, but I like to walk down to the beginning of the boardwalk to get these fries. I like to deal with the crazy crowds of people who do not respect walking down the right side and up the left, I like the risk of getting splattered on by the swooping seagulls, I like the safety hazards of slipping on Dumser's ice cream from a poor child who accidentally dropped their cone, I like the bright lights and the loud noises from the boardwalk games & Carney workers yelling for participants... I like it all! Once I do reach my destination, I stand in the long line of eagerly waiting customers. The line moves extremely fast because everyone is getting the same thing, only difference is the size. I always get the medium size which as of summer 2022 is around $12 or you can get a small for $7.50 (don't get the small, you'll regret it) Packaging...honestly I love the packaging. The design is eye catching and iconic. The container is strong so you never deal with grease seeping through or an unfortunate disintegrating cardboard. Pro tip - salt your fries before adding the malt vinegar so that the salt has a chance to drop to the middle and bottom. If you use malt vinegar first, then the salt will collect on the wet fries on top (I've learned that the hard way). Customer service - the interaction is very quick because they keep the line moving, but they are still very friendly. The workers communicated well with one another and seemed to have a good work relationship. For as many customers that they see throughout the day, they still seemed upbeat. I'm sure the work environment is exhausting from the volume of customers, but they didn't let it show. With a perfect score of 20 out of 20 stars, I give this location an A+ Overall verdict - HIGHLY recommended! Don't let the fact that there is no ketchup or ranch deter you from buying a bucket of fries. Experiment outside your comfort level and try the malt vinegar with salt. Maybe we just had a bad batch this past Saturday, but paying $7.50 for a small cup of fries was not worth it, especially if they're soggy and dripping in oil. i picked up a fry and I saw a drop of grease drip back into the already super oily fries. You also have to season these fries heavily with salt for it to have any sort of flavor, so be generous with how much you dump in. The vinegar definitely made them taste better, but it made the fries even soggier after that. Only thing I liked about these fries was that they were fresh and for once, I actually enjoyed putting vinegar on my fries. Went for Lunch Food - 2/5. The fries were crispy to the point of having a hint of dryness to them. Colors were nice and they were fresh. The entire thing comes unseasoned in a cup, so you must apply everything on top, which makes for an uneven distribution of seasoning. Some had big clumps of salt/vinegar while others had none, and a big pool of vinegar formed at the bottom of the cup. It was a disappointing experience from a spot that specializes in one item. Service - 2/5. Service itself was fine but the condiments/seasoning table is atrocious. It is entirely self-serve from bottles only and this lack of serving pumps makes the area very, very messy. People easily mix the salt and vinegar, so half the salt containers get wet and unusable. A gross experience. Thrasher's boardwalk fries, it must be said, are God's way of giving purpose to the potato. These aren't potatoes fried in vats of duck fat, buried under piles of cheese curds or made inedible by the acetone whiff of truffle oil. They're lightly oily, slightly salty, moderately crispy French fries, dressed (if you're smart) with a sprinkle of apple cider vinegar. Thrasher's fries have a superb twice-cooked edge, a toothsome interior and perfect potato-to-salt ratio, but as with many such things, environment is a part of the recipe. I don't believe that Thrasher's would prosper in Atlanta or Paris or Kathmandu. They are where they belong: on the boardwalk, where kids can grab a cup just after body surfing and just before kicking ass at Skee-Ball over at Marty's Playland. Plus, those cities lack seagulls, which Thrasher's boardwalk location offers as constant companions, dive-bombing the fries of inattentive customers. I'm pretty sure that the five guys who founded their eponymous burger chain in Arlington, Virginia grew up eating fries at Thrasher's in Ocean City, same as the rest of us Northern Virginia boys that lived at the beach, come summer, because Five Guys' fries are a close-but-no-cigar attempt to replicate what Thrasher's has been doing since 1929. This location was open when a lot of other beachside businesses were still seasonally closed (including all of the Rehoboth Thrasher's), which is a virtue in itself. There's nothing complicated about what they do: just fries. They are not cheap with even the smallest serving at $6. A bigger bucket is a better deal, but you'll need some friends to finish that thing off. Given the nutritional value (or lack thereof), you really don't want to be eating that bucket yourself. This place only sells fries, their original fries, no drinks, nothing else. They're nice fries, the vinegar is what makes them unique, they're nice and golden, with just enough crisp. I'm not a fan of fries solo, but these are enjoyable while walking along the boardwalk, and sharing them. They're not cheap, but a serving is a generous size. It's the second most important reason I come down here; the first is to preach on the Boardwalk. I had fries for two nights in a row--Large fries. However, I don't feel yucky or sick to my stomach at the thought of fries. It's almost like they're good for you. I would have gone again but I do know that they aren't. But the night isn't over.
