BIRRIA 3 TACO SPECIAL, QUESO DIP
    Karla T.

Yummy choice! My son loved the birria tacos and I enjoyed my carne asada & shrimp tacos. I will say I wasn't a huge fan of the queso - the cheese combo didn't hit for me, but my son liked it - salsa was really good! It was off season so it was easy to get in/out.

Yummy, fresh, authentic tex mex! Great service and tasty food; love that they offered mocktails! Staff was great and manager was walking the floor and delivering food. Always love to see that! Cool venue with lots of character. NA pina colada was so fresh and tasty without being overly sweet or syrupy!

Came here on a Wednesday preseason in May. Arrived at 4pm, plenty of tables open but not empty. We were able to sit immediately. Service was fast and friendly. We had the nacho fries for appetizer coupled with the $5 house margarita for happy hour and white sangria. During this time of year ambience is much better as the restaurant is not as chaotic and noisy. I ordered the birria tacos and my wife got the fajitas. The birria was good but not great. The meat was really good, but the birria sauce was not as flavorful compared to other taco places I have tasted and wa not spicy. That being said I also did not ask it to be spicy because most places it is already spicy. Usually I would have shared my wife's fajitas too, but i was already stuffed from the fries and my tacos. But this is our go to place for Mexican food in OC.

Service was a little slow because we sat at the bar and there was only one bartender so not her fault at all. Got chips and queso and the queso came out lukewarm instead of hot but I ate almost all of it so can't complaint too much. Marg was soo good!

9/25/25 - Another night in Ocean City, MD and another Mexican meal. Tonight, we dined at Mother's Cantina right on the main drag. I was very optimistic as the parking area was very full each time we drove by and tonight was no different. The place seems to be popular with the locals as there was a lot of foot traffic observed while we ate our meals. The chips were warm and fresh and we upped the game by ordering a side of queso which was wonderful. The salsa was ok.... a bit too chunky but it had a delightful cilantro taste. It had zero heat. For the main course, I went with a Mother's burrito and chicken with the filling. The filling is made up of rice, peppers, onions, cheese, sauce and beans. The burrito was average but not terrible. It was a bit light on chicken but not so skimpy that it's an issue. My real issue here is the entire dish (burrito and side of rice) have a strong mesquite flavor. I like mesquite but I didnt particularly want the flavor in my burrito and rice. No where is mesquite mentioned on the menu so my first few bites were definitely a surprise. My wife ordered an inferno burrito. It looked exactly like mine and the only difference we could see is it had a bunch of jalapeño peppers in the stuffing. The wife let me sample it and much to my surprise, there was no heat at all. None. The meal was not quite what I expected but it wasn't a complete failure. It's not a place I'd run back to if I ever return here but it's nice place to grab a decent meal. Just don't expect to be wowwed or blown away with heat. Overall Rating: B-

We came during happy hour. The margarita was really good and a great price $5.00 My kids loved the kids menu and it came with an activity. The burrito fajita and chicken fajita were ok. Overall a good spot to eat.

The food at Mother's Cantina is some of the very BEST we've ever had. The fajitas are my very favorite, so tasty but the Chili is the best chili we've ever had & we think our chili is the best until we had Mother's. We often beg for the secret ingredients but they are keeping it a secret for a good reason!!! We just tried the Triple Birria Tacos which are now our favorite, so delicious. I can't say enough about how good the food is there & we are real foodies & try everything. And, let's not forget the house margaritas which are always the most authentic & also huge. The service was also the best as they couldn't do enough for us & so friendly. The venue is very rustic which we love but also very clean. Our absolute favorite mexican restaurant in Ocean City, Md. I only wish we could convince them to open on Long Island, NY where we live

    Straw shorter than the cup

For several years we would always visit this location during our summer trips. Last year my husband got the chicken fajitas and it was very dry and difficult to chew. We sent it back and the replacement was a little better. We came back again this year and now the chicken fajitas are $25.96, you do not get any rice with it here (we travel quite a bit and it is standard at most places). My husband didn't get any lettuce, no pico, no cheese, and no sour cream. He asked for a small portion of rice instead and they said no. Which was fine. Then the food came out and he got one small chicken breast sliced on a huge bed of onions. Lots of onions. It was a very small portion, much smaller than previous years. So $26 for a very small boneless chicken breast. I got the single shrimp taco and it tasted good. Another odd thing, the straws are shorter than the cups. The straw goes down into the cup and you have to fish it out. Unfortunately we will not be returning. We will try some other spots in the area.

    Steak Fajita

Came here for dinner tonight and it was rather pricey for what we received. The margarita was delicious. The tacos were good, but they were overpriced for what I got. $20 for three tacos? Nahh. My girlfriend ordered the steak fajitas. When she received them, they were overcooked and we had to send them back. Instead of serving them back on the skillet it came on, they gave us a few pieces of medium done steak on a plate with a couple peppers and onions. Girlfriend still said it was pretty tasteless and she left unsatisfied with her meal.. although I thought that my shrimp tacos were pretty good. For one margarita and an order of tacos my total came out to be a whopping $40. The restaurant was pretty nice. They had a couple tables, booths and bar seating as well as high tops. Probably won't come back here even though service was friendly. Come for drinks, don't bother with the food unless you're really drunk I guess

    Yes you can!

Is the Spanish rice vegan or is it made with chicken broth?

Our Spanish Rice is vegan! We use a vegan margarine for flavor, but otherwise just herbs, spices, stewed tomatoes, and water. Thanks for the question!

We saw some good ratings and gave this place a shot and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff who helped us make the right selection. As my wife was fasting, she went with a small fruit bowl, my son chose shortstack pancakes, and I tried the veggie hash. The fruit bowl was decorated well and had plenty of variety. From blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, watermelons, apples, bananas, and others, all the fruits were fresh and perfectly ripe. The pancakes were very large and just one would have been more than enough for two people it seems but they even added berries for my son on them. The veggie hash had lots of potential. It was cooked well, however, lacked seasoning. It seemed slightly bland and I had to utilize ketchup to give it some identity. However, the quality and variety of veggies inside was great. Overall, I am giving four stars due to the fact that the prices are high, but the service and quality are worth it; especially for such a close location to the boardwalk.

There's a good variety in the cocktail/beer/wine menu too. My husband and I got the salt pepper shrimp, which came with peppers and onions. It was butterflied and breaded super well, and was fresh and crispy! It also had a good balance of spice and salt. The beef in the lo mein was so tender and juicy. I feel like sometimes other places give the tiniest thin slices, but this is almost like small pieces of steak. It's a great portion for 2-4 people depending on how many items you order. The pork belly bowl was also outstanding. It was on a bed a rice that soaked a ton of the flavor. It came with zucchini and bok choy, which was a great fresh flavor to balance the belly. We made a last minute reservation and were seated super quickly. The service was so friendly from our server who was an owner and the bartender too. Total out to approximately $72, not including tip. What's hot - Menu. Breakfast is available before noon, so hubby and I made certain to arrive before then, because I'm a huge fan of breakfast. Aside from breakfast options (such as breakfast burritos, omelettes, etc.), they have a good variety including sandwiches, salads, burgers, a good variety of appetizers, etc... - Quality. Delicious. My veggie omelette was very fluffy and soft. I'm not a fan of thin omelettes and this one did not disappoint. There were a good amount of veggies included. They put the cheese on top of the omelette, instead of inside with the fillings, but oh well.... My omelette came with 2 slices of cantaloupe and a strawberry, in addition to has browns, which was nice. I appreciate having fruit. The hash browns were not greasy, as well. My husband's burger challenge was enormous. The bun was very thick, which makes it difficult to eat. You definitely have to eat the burger challenge in pieces. There's a good amount of fillings, such as tomatoes, lettuce, and bacon. Their waffle fries are well-seasoned, which adds to the flavor. - Service. The staffer for our table was polite, attentive, and helpful, especially in answering any questions we had about the menu. He checked in on us regularly, which was helpful when we needed refills and/or anything extra. - Layout. Their outdoor seating area is a good layout. It does not appear outdoor tables can accommodate more than a group of 4, so be prepared depending on your group. - Price. Pretty good value for money, especially given the portions. That I had to pay extra for cheese in my omelette was surprising and disappointing, but it appears to be something that is becoming more common in restaurants. - Layout. There are umbrellas covering the outdoor seating, which is helpful. Towards the end of our meal, it started raining, so the large umbrella covering was helpful. However, part of the umbrella started coming apart. Rain also drips down on to your back, so just something to be aware of. Final answer Worth returning.
