My cousin wanted to go to Three Bear Restaurant for dinner. Being the Yelper I am, I looked it up first. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the three star rating. However, the food was a little better than I expected. The broasted chicken tasted better than I expected, but the texture was a little bit too stretchy - not something I prefer. Maybe it's just what happens to chicken when it is broasted and needs to be accepted. The bison burger, on the other hand, was just lousy. It did not have very much flavor and was the driest burger I have ever had. Our table of five only had three people ordering food from the kitchen and it took about half an hour to get out. It was not even a busy night. When you walk inside, you will probably either think that it is a 90 year old woman's house or a late 1980s restaurant with most of the customers being 90 year olds. We went for dinner and noticed the booth the hostess was seating us at had garbage all on the floor and under the table. I asked if it could be swept up since it was a mess. She said no, we only clean at the end of the night. I said it was a bit of a sanitary issue since we need to be mindful of COVID. She rudely said that it wasn't her fault. It was the tourists' fault and it wasn't her's or the restaurant's responsibility. So... we left. Couldn't eat a $20 dinner with trash all around me!! So weird. read more

Just ok. It's in a resort town, we had a large party and they were fairly busy. Servers were hustling and trying hard, but the overall experience still fell short. Half our group got the salad bar and the other half had side salads - but no one got their salad plates until after all the entrees were served and we reminded the waiters. Smoked chicken was pretty good, but the prime rib left a lot to be desired - especially for $35. All in all, probably wouldn't go back with all the other options in the area. read more

Horrible steak!! I do not advise wasting any money here. The cook clearly is not capable of preparing properly cooked meat. And this is a restaurant that has multiple steaks on the menu, so I would expect proper temperatures (with medium rare being a common cook temp). The cook failed to prepare a medium rare filet, and it was extremely dry and tasted horrible. When it was re-prepared it was clearly raw and rare. At that point, at closing, it was time to leave the restaurant after having wasted $32 on a filet. Please do not waste your money here, there are much better places to eat in town with cheaper and more delicious food. read more

Went over 4th of July weekend. Restaurant was not very busy. Food not really great and service was lousy. Ordered spaghetti and meatballs and def not given spaghetti noodles. Server said they had been out and been using penne noodles. You think they would tell you when ordering "hey we're using penne and not spaghetti". Also ordered chicken sandwich, chicken edible, bun was old and tasted old tomato had big portion of core in it. read more

Stopped on the way home from Yellowstone on recommendation of a local. Service was good, prices normal for resort area. Hamburgers were large, good selection of items on the menu. My brother said the tomato bisque soup was the best he's ever had west of Denver. read more

Tonight is the first time in my life I ever didn't leave a tip. If I could leave NO STARS I would do that, too. My boyfriend's elk burger was akin to a frozen patty and the fries seemed like the frozen variety as well. My bison rib-eye was still making bison noises it was so bloody. I ordered it medium rare and it was virtually uncooked in some places. Still, I soldiered through it because I don't have a problem with rare meat. The real issue was the cut of meat. I would venture to guess only half of the ten ounce cut was edible. The rest was gristle. Down to my last edible bite or two I discovered raw meat so we flagged the waitress and that's where the train really went off the track. The waitress was virtually inaccessible the whole meal. She barely breezed by the table to check on the food and didn't even wait for the answer before she ran off. When we finally were able to get her to stand still and listen to us her response was, and I quote "Sometimes our grill doesn't work right." When we looked a little surprised at her "explanation" she said, "You ate it, what do you want me to do about it?" Bear in mind that half of the portion was still on the plate due to it being inedible. Still, she took the plate, came back and said, "My manager agrees you ate it as well." I've worked service before and I know two things. First, bad attitude, defensiveness and combativeness with customers is a top down problem. The manager, we found out later, wasn't any more sympathetic or proactive. Second, the customer's experience isn't up for debate. It's not a court case and I'm not on trial and have to prove your food and service sucks. That's my perception of the experience and as a business, you do what you have to so I don't leave with that perception and write about it on the internet! Last, I'd like to say that though this was the worst meal we've eaten in a while and the worst service ever, the cost of this place is crazy expensive. It looks like a cafeteria but we spent big bucks to be treated rudely and eat nasty, microwave style food. A vending machine in a gas station would be better. read more

There seem to have been a lot of bad reviews of this place in the last few years; I mentioned this to the manager and he said there'd been a change of management in October 2012, so maybe things are better now, because I liked this place a lot. When I came in it was crowded, but I got seated pretty quickly. My waitress was super-friendly and was laughing and joking with other customers, too. I ordered the bison steak (on the recommendation of my waitress) and it was GREAT, juicy and delicious, the best the Matrix has to offer. My sides -- mashed potato and green beans -- were also top quality. At $28 it wasn't cheap, but that's what I'd expect to pay for steak in a tourist town. read more

While the food was above average what we experienced was absolutely ludicrous. My wife and I both ordered chicken sandwiches( which were very good) and the salad bar for an extra $4 each. While we both anticipated the salad bar being ayce it was not and the sugar on top was no one ever told us and they bring you the smallest plate ever. After we made our first plate and then asked for a new plate for the salad bar the waitress told us "ohh yah you only get one plate" which makes no sense because we didn't order a side salad, we ordered the salad bar. Unfortunately they did nothing to fix the issue or even try and correct it. The menu is misleading and quite frankly deceitful. The service was subpar. I would not return. read more

service was exceptional. we had toddlers and kids with us and the server was so good at addressing their needs. food was pretty good. chicken and wild rice soup was old/rice was soggy, and the flavor was nothing to get excited about. my bison ribeye was actually really good, and went well with my salad. the sour cream and chive topping for the baked potato wasn't very good. it just seemed that the servers outlasted the food on this visit. go for the beef/bison steaks. but stay away from the bison burger. it's nothing special. read more

Dang, when did this restaurant go downhill? We were here in 2007 and we really enjoyed it. My husband could only eat about half of his steak as most of it was gristle. The side was veggies that looked like something you'd pick up in a cafeteria like Luby's. Bland and boring. I had the salad bar, and it was OK, but I'm not a fan of iceberg lettuce being the only option. Would have been nice to see darker greens...ever heard of raw spinach? The service was slow (perhaps it had something to do with us being there just before the season started). The only redeeming quality was the Apple Brown Betty. That was quite good and since I ate so little of the salad bar, that ended up being most of what filled my belly. We love coming to W Y, but probably won't be going back to 3 Bear anytime soon. Sad to say that as we remembered this place to be pretty awesome. Maybe their breakfast is better than their dinner. read more

Wheelchair users beware! There is a 3 - 4 inch threshold at the entrance. Our power wheelchair couldn't navigate it. In addition there is not parking for van unloading unless you can side ramp on to the sidewalk. The owners of this establishment should consider a commercial ADA door threshold so all patrons can enjoy what looked like a nice restaurant. read more

Just went here with the family. The restaurant was busy so the service was a little slow but we expected that. The food was average. The steak I ordered was not very flavorful but my fathers chicken was good. The waitress was busy but that don't excuse forgetting one of the beers we ordered. Also, a steak we ordered was wrong twice even though she wrote it right! AWESOME for breakfast. We ate at Running Bear and several other places, but Three Bear was definitely the best. Gravy on the biscuits was quite flavorful. Biscuits were fluffy and hearty. We arrived an hour before closing and were met with a smile. While the salad bar wasn't very extensive, the soups were quite tasty, and we both had the chicken pot pie, which was excellent! The chef had the chance to come out and speak with us and talk about the food for a few minutes -- he was nice and seemed genuinely interested in our feedback and talking about how he prepared the pot pies. I ate dinner here and wished the reviews on yelp reflected my experience I had there. The place was great and the food was delicious, our table ordered the pork tenderloins which were the special and they were seasoned well with generous portion sizes. Service was great and the bar was a bonus, no idea why this places rating isn't higher. We didn't do the salad bar though but just got the sides which were done perfectly! I came here for dinner and breakfast when I stayed in West Yellowstone. Me and my sister split a buffalo rib eye, which came with 2 sides. We chose a trip to the salad and soup bar. The salad was fresh, but limited on items. We chose chili for our soup. Tasty. The buffalo was lean but I was hoping it wasn't seasoned with pepper so I could taste more of the animal. I got a taste of the farm raised trout my mom had ordered. Tasty, but definitely not as good as the trout from the night previously before. We came back the next day for breakfast to use the coupon from the motel. Average at best. The buttermilk biscuits were burger bun sized. I ordered a veggie scramble with cheese. They serve pancakes with huckleberry syrup, which is sweet and tart, and all kinds of delicious. Locally made, and only found in this part of the country. read more

During our recent visit to Yellowstone, our tour package included daily free breakfasts and a one-time free dinner at the Three Bear Restaurant. Overall this place is a family-friendly restaurant with good food and really cool atmosphere and decor that reflects the history of West Yellowstone. Our service was always prompt and friendly and I frequently noticed the staff going out of their way to accommodate the customers. Breakfast was mostly good and apparently the French Toast was delicious as one of my sons had it each day during our visit. Dinner was so so. The rime rib was good but not the best I've ever had. Of course, you can't beat the price (free) for the quality. read more

OMG this place is amazing! Everything I ordered and my family ordered was obviously homemade! Get the triple game meatloaf! It is SO good. Their pork chops are perfect! It's hard to get pork chops perfect but theirs are perfect. First time having fried green tomatoes and they were delicious. Then we got desert. Holy. Crap. AMAZING brownies and local ice cream but, listen to me, get the Apple Brown Betty! One of the yummiest things I've ever eaten. To top it off, the service was perfection and everyone is friendly. OK . This could have been better. I dined on a Sunday evening there. First of all I think it is rude to your customers if you supposed to be open at five and you are not open when you should be. That being said my wife and me had the prime rib and the rib eye buffalo steak. The prime rib was good ( as all prime rib should be) The buffalo steak on the other hand was pretty tasteless . No evidence it had seen any salt pepper etc. Looked like it had been taken out of the fridge thrown into a pan with no other preparation. I added my own salt and pepper at table ( I never do this) and ate the steak with au jus . Maybe this was a function of the animal but I just think the food was prepared poorly. read more

A very busy restaurant close to Yellowstone Park. Was recommended to us by a local resident/business owner. Place was packed when we got there for dinner. We were promptly greeted and seated by the friendly wait staff. We were met almost immediately by our server who gave us a rundown of the daily specials. Service was one of the fastest that I've experienced. Ever. One of the people in our party, opted for the salad bar. I opted for the soup. After ordering and going up to get our salad and soup - we came back to the table to find our dinner orders being delivered. The food was cooked to perfection, no evidence of food sitting under a heat lamp. We had salmon steak, buffalo ribs and fried chicken. Generous portions (for 2 meals!) and tasted great. If we ever go back to West Yellowstone, we will certainly eat here again. read more

Busy restaurant on Yellowstone Ave; good location, easy to find. The potato skins were delicious. The spaghetti plate was really bland and water down, I wouldn't recommend it at all. The grilled chicken sandwich was just standard quality. My dad got the open faced roast beef, which was served in a generous portion size with salad bar and one other side dish. Overpriced food in general. Our waitress Emma was nice, but I wish she was a little more attentive... There was a daily special dish I overheard another waitress advertised to her customers that I wished I had gotten if I had heard about it. read more

Went here with a friend. Food was good! I had grilled salmon, they served it with a cucumber dip that you could use. Excellent. My friend ordered steak, it was also good. Prices were high, but on the level of what you get around here. We both ordered Huckleberry drinks, I had margarita, friend had daquiri. Um, we thought margaritas and dacquiris always came BLENDED. Nope, we got them "on the rocks." Server went back and got them blended for us. Apparently, you have to ASK for those kind of drinks to be blended. Plus, I thought it was weird that they charged us for our drinks (ok) but added 75 cents for them to be Huckleberry. I thought this was odd...... At the bottom of the bill, they gave "suggested tips." 15%, 18% and 20% . Lordy, who tips more than 15%? Ok, I'm a geek about this, I did the math. The suggested tips were calculated ONLY on the food plus drink, they did NOT include the 3% resort tax in the calculation of the "Suggested tip." YAY!!!!!! Another thing, the 3% resort tax was only applied on the food, not the alcoholic drinks. Interesting...... Yeah, I'm a geek about wanting to know those things..... read more

Service was fine and food came out quickly, probably because the food was sitting under a heater for hours causing it to become bone dry making it hard to chew. We had a tour/motel package with Yellowstone Tour & Travel. With it we got vouchers for breakfast and one dinner. Breakfast food: Pancakes and breakfast burritos were lacking. Eggs, potatoes and toast were fine. Cinnamon rolls were excellent. Dinner items: Butterfly shrimp and prime rib were very tasty. Baked potato was good. Rice pilaf was not. It was rice. Bar drinks are quite reasonably priced. Service was good except for one breakfast. They do not serve lunch. read more
