Went there with a group for a birthday party. Tim, the owner, was a great host for our wine tasting. We had a nice selection of wines and there are great stories to go with each wine. We got to see a proposal on the patio while we were there (she said yes!). They could perhaps have some music. Loved coming here! Found this location via searching for a dog friendly brewery / winery. We came on a lovely Saturday and sat down by the creek where the dogs could run off the leash. We had some of the Kolsch beers and red sangria + sparkling Chardonnay (the one on tap). We found everyone super friendly and a really low key vibe. Next time we'd definitely pack a little picnic (learned later you can bring your own food). Will be returning! read more

We hadn't been out to visit this winery for a while, but heard about the new ownership and decided to head out for an afternoon with the kids. Amazing views, tons of space, and the creek provides constant entertainment for the kids. We hadn't ventured out much due to COVID, but we were comfortable with the generous social distancing and all of the staff and guests vigilantly wearing masks. The staff we're all extremely friendly - great service, even down by the creek! We heard about exciting things to come with a new winemaker for next season's wines and beer coming as well. We climbed up the hill and took a peek at the gorgeous mountain views beyond the vineyard. Can't wait to come back! read more

A trip to Three Fox Vineyards was the perfect fall 2020 activity! The landscape was beautiful and we really enjoyed the red taster and the bottle of merlot we ended up purchasing. Pricing was quite reasonable (~$10 for taster and ~$30 for a bottle) and the staff is very friendly. It is very easy to be covid safe and socially distanced out here - there are plenty of outdoor tables spread out on the grounds. Definitely recommend! read more

Amazing place for families, dogs and friends. Beautiful vineyard and amenities, and delightful wine, beer and charcuterie. Christina and Mike were extremely helpful and generous with our party full of babies and dogs. The Nebbiolo was fantastic. After apple picking at a nearby orchard, we stopped in for some food and drinks at Three Fox. There was plenty of parking and overflow if needed. Coming up to the building, it's a really nice place with outdoor seating and sun shades above the seating. The indoors had two levels with top level being for adults only. No kids or pets. Great idea. The main level was very nice with quite a few tables, water cooler and a good view of the outside. The bar runs the length of the inside wall. Very nice staff. Outside at the bottom of a small hill, is a small building/large shed where you can order approximately a 12 inch thin crust pizza. That starts at $12 for cheese and moves up to $22 I believe. A little overpriced but forgivable cause it was delicious. They bake these in a rotating brick oven. It was good and cooked perfectly. Here's where I dropped a star. The beer was good, I had a west coast IPA. It was smooth and had a good flavor. Not overly intense and the abv was nice. I like 5-6%. Moving on the the dropped star, there were only a handful of beers to choose from. The stout was an imperial at 11% which is appropriate for an imperial but it only came in 500ml bottles and was quite expensive. There just wasn't much to choose from, maybe 5 beers. The grounds outside are beautiful with a large hill and plenty of seating. It was enjoyable but I need more selection before I return. I didn't check out the wine. read more

We had an amazing time this last weekend at Three Fox for my friends birthday. I worked with Robin to reserve a large table for our party in the tasting room and not only was she incredibly helpful she was prompt in her responses. The staff was amazing and accommodating. We brought our own food and they let us use an extra table to set everything up. Everyone had a really great day and enjoyed the wine, beer and sangria. The prices were reasonable as well, especially for reserving the space. We will definitely be back! read more

Pros: beautiful location, dog-friendly spot and staff, tables located amongst the vineyards, live music, food trucks, decent whites. Cons: the reds - it was my friend's first time dumping a tasting ever. All 4 of us dumped at least half of our reds because they were wayyy too tanic and half of them tasted like vinegar. The service was also extremely slow and impersonal. None of the wines were explained, the staff was inattentive, and there really weren't very many customers at the tasting counter at all (3 staff to about 15 customers). Others standing by us were in the same boat and were becoming impatient. It got to the point where one of our friends abandoned the tasting and once the rest of us got through it, we packed up and left for the next winery. We originally wanted to hang at this beautiful vineyard a while longer, but after the tasting decided that we didn't want to give them any more business. It put that bad of a taste in our mouths, and in more ways than one. Such a shame. read more

My first visit to Three Fox since it's been "reimagined" (great description of what's been done since the new owners took over). I only tried a sample of the pinot gris (which was very good, almost effervescent) since I was more in the mood for beer. So I am saving one star until I can try all the wines. The beers were excellent - two different styles of IPAs (one a bit bitter, the other not bitter), a sour, a lager, a kolsch...something for everyone (they even had cider). Inside the impressive, 2-level, airy building, it's hard to believe such a quaint little "cottage" (where the tastings used to be held under the old owners) existed. They did a nice job with expanding the parking lot and keeping the integrity of the sloping, beautiful grounds. And the "tables beside the vines" are still there (I didn't see the old "table in the sky," though). Lots of picnic tables by the creek if you want to imbibe down there. The upstairs area inside Three Fox is adults and humans only. Prices are about average for the area. I will definitely miss the old Aspen Dale Winery at the Barn (which was about 3 miles up the road from Three Fox) but the "reimagined" Three Fox is a great new alternative. read more

I made reservations for a Saturday to visit Three Fox with some friends, but it actually ended up drizzling a bit and we had ample seating to choose from since the crowds stayed away. We were able to move inside (open door set up kind of like a garage) to stay away from the light rain, which we gladly did. We were able to bring in plenty of our own snacks and they were also dog-friendly, which is a big plus :-) I really enjoyed every wine we tried. The crowd favorite for our group ended up being the Viognier. The staff was also super kind and helpful. I'd be happy to come back and try a few more flavors! read more

You will spend more time waiting for a glass than enjoying your surroundings. Three fox vineyards and brewery decided that having only two people work fourth of July would be a great idea. I hate, and I don't use the word hate lightly, I hate bad management decisions like this. They have two places to order and the lady and gentleman kept running between them helping random folks who skipped the line, I had absolutely no idea which line to stand in to get a refill. Get a system three fox, and if you think I'm a jerk or being unfair, look at all of the five star reviews on my account. This is where you truly stack up. One star. read more

Three Fox is a neat little winery - lots of open space to have a picnic lunch, and some nice vistas. We went this past Saturday - the wine tasting building is a bit small compared to most other Virginia wineries - and it was pretty much packed to capacity. So Holli (I think that was her name), the wife of the wine maker, brought the wines out to us and poured at a barrel that had been made into a table. We tasted nine wines - most of them were pretty decent wines - I didn't hate any of them. I thought all of the reds were respectable and if you were to buy some of them and stash them in the wine rack for a few years - you would have a tasty cache of wine. In the end, I bought one white - the 2006 Leggero Chardonnay; one red - the 2006 Il Volpe Sangiovese; and one dessert wine - the 2007 Rosso Dolce Chambourcin. The Chardonnay had a light, crisp, refreshing, almost citrus undertone to it. Very yummy! The red was respectable and has a lot of potential - that will sit in the rack for a while. The Chambourcin was sampled with a bit of chocolate - it was rich and delicious! They market it as a "Port Alternative." For whatever reason - Google maps does not generate a map for this place based on the address. Nor will a GPS (according to their web site - best to follow the directions that are listed on their web site). I really like this winery! The two cons are that the tasting area is so small and cramped, and what passes for restrooms are two porta-johns out back. read more

This was my first visit since the new ownership took over. What a difference! The tasting room is spectacular. Friendly staff, and the wines have taken a huge leap forward since the transition. I'd give them 3.5 stars but will bump them up to 4 because I like Italian-style wineries, they are dog friendly, and have one of the nicer outdoor setups (including hammocks!) in the area. But points off for having porta-potties, no matter how nice they are. $11 tastings for 11 wines, or you can do either the red or white flights for less. The pours were on the slim side, but I had no problems getting re-tastes. They have 15 acres under vine and all but two of their wines are estate. The tasting room is tiny, but I was told during the winter they put tent walls and heaters along the outdoor patio. But staying inside is kind of a waste, because the grounds and picnic area by the stream look wonderful. In fact, this might be the only place I can think of that has tables literally between the vines. Reds: Generally good, especially if you favor light-to-medium bodied reds. The boldest of the bunch was the Merlot (cherry palate; not surprisingly it was my favorite) but I liked several. Since they are Italian-themed they have Nebbiolo (little peppery) and TWO Sangioveses. The Il Signor had a nice nose with light color and body, while the part Cab Franc Volpe was very light tasting, almost too light to get a sense of it. While not bad, the only red I didn't enjoy was the Chambourcin desert-style. Whites: All steel-based; no butter bombs here! Most trended towards citricy or tropical fruit palates. My favorites were the lemony Pinot Grigio and the Viognier, which had a nice finish. read more

The last time I visited Three Fox was about 10 years ago. I was with a group and we all loved the outdoor space but at the time I remember none of our group being fans of the wine (the whites in particular). That was a long time ago and wines change over time. This time I went with my wife and kids and it was a great experience. Trying to reserve a table ahead of time (by phone) was a bit confusing but it was nice to get the suggestion that we could sit in the outdoor "meadow" space. It's a large open space along a creek with tables well-spaced apart and a lot of grass for blankets, while still giving everyone space. All employees I saw wore masks and most visitors did, too, when interacting with staff, but not everyone. They also had a tent and table set up where you could by bottles of wine to take away or drink there. Outdoor tastings were still available by the house only though. We had brought our own lunch (but they had some snacks for sale, too) and bought a bottle of Nebbiolo (I think about $30). The wine was way tastier than I remember and the outdoor space was fantastic. It was a nice outing and I look forward to going back to taste all the wines next time. read more

Great experience. Beautiful winery so pretty and enormous space to walk and enjoy. Meanwhile what i enjoyed the most was the small separate section which was separated by the grapes line and they put tables in the middle. It was very romantic and mesmerizing. Great experience and unforgettable time. I wish they would of give the glasses of wine back to us as a memorable thing but unlike the other wineries we have been they didn't which is totally fine. read more

I ordered pizza from the Wood Fired Foods. They have a building that's in the winery towards the back outside. This review has to do with the pizza, it's not the winery itself. Because the pizza seems to be another business. Please do yourself a favor and don't order food from here. Bring your own food. I was waiting for the food and noticed all these people that ordered their food and I didn't get mine. It was about 15 other people. I asked them about it and the girl at the register gave me major attitude. I had a pager and asked if they missed my number. She said they dump all the pagers in a pile and get whatever is on top. They don't go in order of numbers. So my pager could be at the bottom and you could get your food 2 hours later. She says can't you see that we have all these orders now and we are really backed up?!!! Is that really my fault they are backed up? I sat there and waited for 40 minutes and asked for a refund. There was another lady that asked for a refund because she waited so long. While I was there I noticed they threw the food on the counter and it fell on the floor. I can see everything they are doing in the kitchen. Very strange how they just picked it back up and still used it. I also noticed the man cooked the pizza touched the topping with his fingers after he cooked it. He wasn't wearing any gloves. Ughhhh... People will be eating the food. I asked for a refund and the girl at the register had a major attitude. My husband ordered using the QR code earlier. He ordered a Margarita pizza. I ended up eating the pizza. I got an upset stomach with diarrhea. Why am not surprised? I just saw everything that went on in the kitchen. read more

Came here for the lovely Kelly H's birthday and had a wonderful time. The owner greeted us right away and made sure we knew where to go and what to expect. The tasting room is cozy and warm but they have a huge lawn with an equally impressive tent set up to accommodate the masses. We also happened in on a weekend that they were having their 2nd Annual "Vino Dog" Celebration. So that was pretty cool. I love a dog friendly winery! As for their wines, I LOVED their Pinot Grigio (and I don't typically drink PG!), and really liked their Viognier and their Piemontese Nebbiolo. I can't wait to come back and spend more time here. Amazing experience: wines, customer service, and the property and views itself are 5 stars! Staff is very friendly and caters to your every need. The property allows you to sit amongst the vineyards with your own table! Never seen a winery do that before in VA! The wines and sangria are great and have something for every persons tastebuds. New owners are enhancing the entire property and offerings so the transformation of their visions is going to be out of this world heading in to 2021. Go check out this amazing vineyard! great for kids/families; lots of space. They set up picnic tables, bistro tables, even tables in the vineyard area, so lots of room for social distancing. They have a meadow area that is pretty flat, so the kids can run/play for long distances. There were some tents too if you want to get out of the sun. There are bathrooms, although I didn't see any baby changing tables (something I might recommend as there were a number of families with babies). Staff was very friendly and they wear masks. Credit cards accepted. You can do a flight (white, red, or mix) or you can buy a bottle. I only like red wine and the flight I had was very good. They do Italian style wines. They have a few snack items; we brought food and they seemed fine with that. Dogs on leashes are also allowed. I didn't see any not on a leash. read more

What the heck happened to this place? I guess it's been sold or something. Everything that was nice about it has been wiped out and now it's some weird vineyard/ brewery. It made us sad. Now it's a big cavernous building with hip music playing and tables lined up inside like an airport waiting area and the outside seating which used to be up on the hlll with great views has been moved down to the valley near the side of the road with no outside service. Gone are the food trucks, outdoor music and fire pits. Now it just feels like so many of the other pretentious vineyards in the area. Oh well. Time to find a new place to hang out when we're out that way. read more

The scenery is absolutely beautiful, with rolling hills and picnic areas spread around the vineyards (for paying customers). It is also dog-friendly outdoors, so bring your four-legged friends! Unfortunately, the actual wine leaves a bit to be desired. They bill themselves as a Tuscan-style Italian winery, but the wine we had was disappointing. It kind of tasted like fermented grape juice with a touch of vinegar. For reference, my wife and I lived in Europe for a few years and traveled extensively, including in Italy. The only times we've encountered wine with those characteristics was when it had gone bad. I'm hoping that was the case. We'll come back and give it one more try, but if the other wines are similar it's unlikely we'll be back. *edit* apparently the Rose is just like that ... people either love it or hate it. We're in the "hate it" camp. When we asked about it, the staff was awesome and addressed the issue. Thanks to the staff for their responsiveness. read more

Our first visit was fantastic, spending the entire day there with friends laughing, eating, and, of course, drinking good wine. So we were looking forward to our return visit today. But when we reached the parking lot we were met by a chaotic scene with absolutely no guidance from staff or signage. The parking lot sits high on a steep hill looking down on the meadow where there was picnic tables, tents, and a bar. But how to walk down? The way down was covered with straw and roped off. No golf carts for us to load our chairs and other items seemed to be operating. The tasting room/house looked like it was under construction. You could not drive up to the front to be greeted by Guest Services as their web site says. The entire scene looked so unfinished that if I hadn't been there a year ago, I would have concluded that the venue was not ready to open. They really should update their Web site to let us know what is going on. Fortunately, there are plenty of other vineyards nearby, and we drove off to one of them. read more

Their signage still isn't great and there's still work left to be completed on their new tasting room, but i wanted to leave a review for their beer/brewery. It's located a few hundred yards from their outdoor field so stay all the way to the left as you head into the winery. Many signs say, "Deliveries" so follow those. Once you do find their tasting room, which has both beer and wine, you'll be able to taste some really good beer, assuming you like IPAs. They have (had) three IPAs and one Kolsch available for tasting, glasses and 22 oz freshly filled bottles for takeaway. All four were fresh, delicious, and very well balanced. Totally recommend their beer and it's always great to be able to taste both beer and wine at the same location! read more

We came into town to go winery hopping from PA and we absolutely loved three fox vineyards ! We had our dog with us and they were more than happy to accommodate us. We had the opportunity to meet the owner who was so kind ! The woman who did the tasting was friendly and knowledgeable about each wine. The wines were unique and delicious! After the tasting we sat outside and enjoyed the scenery. I would recommend coming out on a beautiful day to enjoy the views along with your bottle of wine ! Tim was great, however his colleague was not. I went with a large family on a Friday morning and after one drink I was ready to go due to exhaustion the previous night. Instead of raining on everyone else's parade I decided to go upstairs to their "adult lounge section" to wait for the rest of the family to finish. I sat on one of the couches and happened to doze off ( again, not from intoxication but simple exhaustion). About 10-15 minutes had passed and I hear a loud slam on the table in front of me as well as someone tapping my leg. It was one of the workers- don't know his name- but it was a hipster looking guy with tattoos and glasses. He began to shout expletives at me, saying that I was "f-ing weird" for falling asleep at a winery and that it was making his business look bad. Mind you- there was maybe 10% full occupancy in the room I was sitting at, and to my guess there was room for at least 6-7 large sized parties- whom I was not interrupting. He proceeded to call me a drunk, which was ironic being that I only had one drink ( a poor excuse for a wheat beer) and that fact that....well sir..... you work at an establishment that "specializes" in alcoholic beverages. Anyways, I don't like being berated by people in a place that I was clearly a paying customer at. I would seriously look into firing this hothead before he gets into physical altercations with guests in the future. read more

The location is beautiful, lots of outdoor space and even a couple of tables in the vines themselves. We didn't go inside, did our tasting at the outside pavilion. The staff was friendly and informative. They're wines are Italian style which are hit or miss for me. The whites were too light for my taste, the reds were dry which I prefer but they were all too high in tannins and had some bitterness to them. For my taste and my palate just not my favorite place. I may try them again just because it's so beautiful and maybe in the fall when it's not so hot they will be a little better. read more

The grounds here are very nice. They had plenty of seating and hammocks and a great view. Minus the porta-potties. The wine itself was not my style. It was all Italian wines that were all just a little sweet for me. I guess I should have read a little more about the place before I stopped in, but I just saw it on the side of the road and we pulled in without researching anything. If you like white wines in stainless steel and Italian reds than this may be the perfect place for you. Sticks out a bit in VA though. read more

This is easily my favorite Virginia winery, though I must admit to a certain level of bias as I live close by. It has a tendency to get pretty crowded on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, but if you come early and beat the rush, you'll have a far more personal tasting, and can enjoy some of the scenery before the tour buses or limousines arrive (this does not happen quite as frequently as at Loudoun County vineyards). As many reviewers have already stated, the grounds are phenomenal with a gorgeous view of some of the most unspoilt part of the piedmont. The Delaplane area contains a lot of rolling pasture and horse farms, and the scenery can be quite breathtaking. The tasting room is small, and it can be frustrating waiting for a place at either of the two tasting bars. Again, arriving earlier in the day will avoid this inconvenience (if you are planning a day trip to several wineries, make Three Fox the first if possible). The service is always very friendly, but if there's a crowd, it's easy to feel neglected. By Virginia standards, the wines are all very good. I say this without criticism - Virginia wine-making is still very much evolving. Three Fox produces around 10-12 wines, I believe most of those are on the tasting (which if I remember correctly costs around $5). There are the usual suspects available - a couple Chardonnays, Pinot Grigio - but where Three Fox really shines is in their Italian varietal Reds (which I will get to momentarily). On my last visit, there were 5 white wines being tasted. I am no expert on white wine as I don't drink it very often, but each of the ones available was fairly good. The only possible exception was the dessert-styled Vidal Blanc, but this was largely due to the fact that I dislike sweet wines. There were two Chardonnays, both of which were crisp and fruity (I was slightly partial to the Reserve), a Viognier, a Pinot Grigio, and the afore-mentioned late-harvest Vidal Blanc. Viognier, as many Virginia wineries will tell you, is a grape that fares exceptionally well in the Virginia climate and soil conditions - however I did not prefer this one to many of the other area wineries' versions. Three Fox had recently added a Rose to their lineup, and I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted it. I have never liked a Rose before, but this particular one is light and refreshing, yet retains some of the complexity from the Sangiovese grape. As for the reds... These were really the highlight for me. Three Fox grows Sangiovese on the estate, and crafts two separate wines - "Il Volpe" and "Il Signor". The former is blended with Cabernet Franc (and perhaps another varietal or two), the latter is 100% Sangiovese. Both of these were phenomenal. They may not be for everyone, as Sangiovese is naturally a lighter-bodied wine and is markedly different from a "big red" such as Merlot or Zinfandel, etc. The 2007 vintage for each of these was recently made available, and in my humble opinion is among some of the best wine Northern Virginia has produced. Equally as delicious was the Cabernet Franc. This is another varietal that does well in Virginia, and I am a huge fan. Three Fox's is definitely one of my favorites out of the maybe 25-30 I have tasted. Again, the 2007 is wonderful, and is a wine that will age very well if you're inclined to cellar it. Finally, the Nebbiolo and the Chambourcin were both good wines, but paled in comparison with the Sangioveses and Cab. Franc. As a port-style wine, the Chambourcin was a little too sweet for my tastes. If you're looking for a great way to spend an hour or two on a beautiful day out in the countryside, I cannot recommend Three Fox enough. Whether to bring some friends out wine-tasting, or to smoke a cigar in the shade with a glass of Cab Franc, it's a highly enjoyable place to visit. read more

PROS: - Beautiful property, you feel like you've been taken to Tuscany - Large outdoor tasting bar - Lots of tables with umbrellas - Very grateful for the shade! And you can sit in the vines, which is fun! - Hammocks and yard games, complete with Italian flag corn hole boards - Pretty good wine, we had the Gatto white. It was refreshing and sweet on a nearly 100 degree day. Also they give you ice buckets, which was a Godsend. - Live music - Flushing toilets! I visited this place a few years ago and they only had portapotties. I was very glad to see a new restroom trailer, which was nice and clean. - Plenty of parking! CONS: - The staff wasn't super welcoming. We waited around for several minutes before a gentleman came to help us. He seemed put off that we didn't want to do a tasting (we didn't want to spend $11 each just for a few tastes). He even questioned if we really wanted to buy the Gatto wine, yet didn't offer a quick taste to make sure that was something we'd like. - Their wine was also more per bottle than I remembered (the Gatto was $28). All in all this place is gorgeous and worth the visit! I'd prefer to come back in the Fall when it's a little less hot.
