The good: beautiful faculty and grounds. Wines and beer are ver nice. The bad: the team struggled with service despite very few people there. Bartenders were unable to fill up a beer bottle from tap and nearly took twenty minutes for four 22 oz beers. The picnic area is down a long hill with one restroom and no satellite bar to serve Down there. They have no app to request drink. I essentially gave up as it was too much a chore to walk all the way up and wait. They have a lot of work to do. read more

For someone who loves wine as much as I do, I suppose it was only a matter of time before I visited a winery. Once we drove up the gravel driveway, we were greeted by the gorgeous wine tasting area. The sloping hills and vegetation were breathtaking and mdke for fantastic pictures. We walked past the outdoor tasting area to check out the inside and see if we needed to check in inside. Inside they had a store where you could purchase gifts with a wine lover's theme, buy cheese and crackers, or even do your wine tasting away from the elements. The woman inside was very attentive and friendly, but we opted to do the wine tasting outside. (Nothing against her. The weather was just so beautiful that we didn't want to be cooped inside.) Outside, there were a variety of different "environments" available. I found it odd that they tried to cram in so many different experiences, but somehow it all worked. There was an area for people who wanted to enjoy their wine in a more private or intimate setting, another area for families to lounge around and even play games, and an option to drink amongst the actual vines! Unfortunately, the outside tasting felt a little less personal. There were approximately 20 people standing around the bar trying the various wines. My friend and I opted for the 11 wines for $11 (and added in an extra wine at the end). To my chagrin, they start you off with the whites. As someone who loves white wine and is not quite a fan of red, I was hoping to finish off with the whites as opposed to something I wouldn't like. I enjoyed about 1/2 of the whites that I tried. For me, that palate for 2 of the whites was very off-putting. As for the reds, I liked them a little better than normal, but they definitely weren't my favorite. However, you should note that the friend I came with, who prefers reds to whites, said that she also preferred their whites to their reds. She commented that the reds didn't seem particularly different/better than any of the other (cheap) wines she'd pick up in the store. They were primarily Italian wines (in stainless steel, I believe), with 1 or 2 that were "French inspired." After our wine tasting, we opted to buy 3 bottles total, and then spent some time walking amongst the crops. Throughout the entire time they had a musician playing his guitar and singing old hits. The atmosphere is very relaxed and several people even opted to bring their dogs! I didn't like the fact that they had porta-potties for their restrooms, but at least they came with porta-sinks. Note that aside from cheese and crackers, they didn't really have any food there. (Also, if you opt for the outside wine tasting, you cannot eat said cheese and crackers there.) read more

We visited Three Fox Vineyards with my extended family last weekend. It was a perfect place to relax, enjoy stunning scenery, and drink fantastic wines. We sat by the creek at a shady table and spent the day playing games, catching crayfish, and watching the dogs play. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. They brought wine directly to our table and made sure we had everything we needed. All employees were wearing masks at all times and there was plenty of space for everyone there to spread out. It was such a great way to spend the day. We are definitely going back soon! read more

I was disappointed in this winery. The cost was higher than most. Tastes were smaller. I am normally a red wine drinker but I did not like any of their red wines. Only two of their Chardonnays were worth a purchase. Nothing offered to cleans your pallet between tastings. The grounds were beautiful and they have lots of places you can sit and enjoy the view, or even have a picnic. Huge turn off was the Port-a-potties. Really? As nice as they had them decorated they are still port-a-potties. read more

Three Fox is gorgeous, and a perfect way to spend a socially distanced day. I came here with a few friends for their Yoga in the Vineyards event--$30 for an hour of outdoor yoga and a wine tasting. It was a beautiful fall day and the yoga took place on a hill overlooking the grapes. Getting active outside, on a warm, breezy day, was so relaxing and fun. And they took good precautions to make sure everyone was spread out throughout the day. The flow was incredible (shoutout to whoever they found to lead it) and super rejuvenating. The only issue I had was they used a drone to take pictures of us during the yoga, and it was pretty noisy--so a little distracting while we were trying to be ~zen~. After we finished, my friends and I grabbed grilled cheeses from the food truck they had that day and ate those before doing our tasting. The tables were spread far apart and had umbrellas so we weren't getting scorched in the sun. The tasting was great and we got to try around eight different red and white wines. Afterwards, we had a bottle and I got a glass of sangria (SO good) and spent the afternoon lounging sipping, and playing with the dogs of other visitors. It was one of the most relaxing vineyard experiences I've had in a while, and I definitely recommend attending any of their future events! read more

Visited Three Fox yesterday for a friends birthday and I'll surely be back! I booked a tasting the day before for 8, letting them know that the number may change and when we arrived with 10 they didn't miss a beat. We were greeted outside by our personal wine expert and she was just as pleasant as the Pinot Grigio I had to call ahead a few times due to travel arrangements and change the tasting time and everyone was so helpful and accommodating. The grounds were beautiful and we even had a private space to enjoy the lunch we brought. Good times were had by all and the birthday girl was pleasantly surprised. Thank you 3 Fox for providing the space (and wine) for an amazing memory, we'll be visiting again. read more

My wife and I have been tasting in this region of Virginia for almost 17 years. We have had good wine and definitely some bad. Three Foxes was a place we had always drove past and never stopped, we were taking my sister in law and her boyfriend out so we decided to give it a shot, due to this experience, we will continue to drive on by. First red flag was as we approached the winery. We were greeted by a car driving towards us on the wrong side of the road. Not due to there not being enough room as at some wineries but because, I can only guess the great time the driver had from the smile on the driver's face as she laughed swerving around us. The venue was very busy that day and their were a lot of cars in the parking lot which made us slightly nervous about how many people were tasting, but were glad not to have been in a head on collision. We made it to the tasting room alive and ordered our four wine tastings (two red tastings, one white tasting and the wine makers tasting) hard pressed to have any real aromatics with the plastic cups they give you in the tasting we asked for empty glasses also. The wines, if you can call them that were all very unbalanced and gave strong aromas of plastic and aquarium water. I have only smelled such unpleasantness in turned or corked wine. All had serious flaws in the wine making, they tasted of sulfur and had no characteristics of the varietals they were suppose to be. I do not tend to dump wine, I usually power through, but I dumped about half of the tastings after the first sip. I didn't have the beer, the folks there seemed to be enjoying themselves so I assume the beer was good. But unfortunately I would call their wine, at this time, undrinkable. read more

A group of us stopped in for a tasting and bottle to enjoy with some snacks we brought along. Since we've never been, we started with a tasting. The pours for the tasting were VERY minimal, which is really difficult to understand if you're trying to get a fair assessment of various wines for the purpose of buying some to drink on site and more to take home. The flavor of the chardonnay was crisp and had nice fruit flavors while still being dry, so we bought a bottle. Unfortunately, we didn't find much else we really enjoyed nearly as much. The lady providing the tasting was fairly nice, but we found it odd that a couple of girls ahead of us wanted a little ice to keep the bottle they just bought cold and they advised they didn't have a chiller, nor ice. We went on a Friday and there were only a few other parties there, which was nice because they have ample seating for hundreds of patrons. We really don't prefer big wineries with lots of others there, as it becomes more of a party atmosphere and less of the relaxing, secluded, enjoyable time we've come to expect at the more quaint wineries. We had an outdoor party for about 20 people at Three Fox. Robin was our contact person and did a phenomenal job at helping us coordinate the number of tents, tables, etc. Pricing of the tents was also very reasonable considering that we had them for the entire day. We were at the top of the hill, where we had a beautiful view and where our guests loved taking lots of photos. Since we were at the top of the hill, we felt as if we had the hill to ourselves. There was plenty of space to spread out and socially distance, so we all also felt very safe. The wines were wonderful and everyone had a great time! They allow outside food, so we catered from a nearby restaurant in Gainesville. They also have a golf cart which they used to help us bring supplies up to the top of the hill. My fiance and I stopped here on a whim yesterday. I didn't know what to expect but I really didn't have a problem leaving as soon as our tasting was done. a... I love the Deleplane area and I adore the mountains - but I didn't really want to walk up a steep gravel hill in sandals. I guess I could have called ahead to see if I needed hiking boots, so I'll take the blame on this one. My finance had to hold me up as I slid down the rocks to get back to the jeep. b... I love the grounds here. Vast and spacious. Amazing space to have picnics and look at amazing views. Best visited during the spring and fall months. It is VERY open and not a lot of shaded areas available. Bring sunscreen, you will need it. c... SUPER SMALL inside Tasting Room. There is a table for (2) and a table for (4). Be prepared to sit outside, even when it is 100 degrees. d... Super animal friendly. This is good and bad. We were joined by people who brought their three barking poodles. Cute dogs - they made sure you knew they were around. e... Really really nice staff. The woman who did our tasting was really great. She knew everything there was to know about the wine and did our tasting with a great sense of humor. Overall, the area is stunning but this isn't a winery I would set out to spend a day at. I don't like the 100 degree heat and need to avoid direct sunlight, (it says so on my label). Having the option to be inside is mandatory for me. I would certainly come by here again on a tasting tour. read more

Great, small, homey place which is an awesome alternative to overcrowded Barrel Oak down the road. Most dog friendly place I've been that was not a dog park. Huge place for pups to run around by the creek or up on the beautiful hill (or hang in the tasting room with you!). Solid wine selection typical of Virginia wineries and just a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon. I don't think that all of the ridiculously low reviews here are justified (also pretty obvious that several of them are from the same group). They have always been incredibly friendly and welcoming to me and my friends and it is a staple of ours! read more

The worst! I walked in on a Monday holiday, not particularly crowded. My cousin and I to decide to split an abridged tasting (as advertised on chalkboard) and handed a description. Granted, a split is a bit unusual. But I have significant health issues and it's better for me only have a sip or two. She proceeds to reprimand me for availing the abridged tasting (which was their offer, not ours). Then she yelled at me when questioning which wines were on their description page. She was so condescending about the wines, when I probably could have schooled her. I highly suspect she was racist, but perhaps she's just an extremely unkind person. At any rate, I would avoid at all costs. There are other extremely wonderful wineries in the area. read more

This is a cute winery in the Northern Virginia wine country, specifically in Delaplane, VA. We particularly loved the outdoors, vineyards, rolling hills, outside tables, including a table and chairs at the top of a hill to sit and enjoy a bottle of wine and some charcuterie with family. They had a large enclosed outdoor tent set up with tables for guests when we visited which we took advantage of for a bottle, prior to going up the hill. The staff made us feel welcome, even like family. This is a pet friendly location. They even have a dog and cat of the month, where the owners and their party get a discount on purchases and tastings. I was able to taste several wines, including the following: a) 2017 Calabrese Pinot Grigio - the wine was a light yellow in the glass and gave off aromas of citrus and apricot, as advertised; it was a pleasant wine, but a bit pricy; b) 2017 La Boheme Viognier - this was just OK in my book c) 2017 Cano Pazzo Rose' - this was a surprise. It is rare we come across a rosé made from Sangiovese varietal. It was light, refreshing with hints of cherry and spice. We enjoyed this bottle with some charcuterie. I would have bought a few bottles to ship home, but they are unable to ship out of state. (Note: You can order the wine on the web site and ship out of state, but the shipping costs are a bit much for me. Too bad, as I really enjoyed this surprising Sangiovese rosé, and I am not usually a rosé fan). d) 2016 Volpe Sangiovese - this was pretty good, but not sure I would go for this vintage. e) 2013 Piemontese Nebbiolo - this was a surprisingly nice forward tasting wine, with notes of spice, black cherries and a really nice finish. My family bought a couple of bottles of this. All in all, a fun and beautiful place to bring your family, pets and friends to enjoy some Virginia wines. I would definitely recommend their Sangio-Based rosé and the Nebbiolo. We will definitely visit this winery again! read more

My first time here and I absolutely love everything about this winery!! The scenery is breathtaking and wine selection is AMAZING! A Must try is the Rose and house made Sangria. I was really impressed with the extra care and precautions that are in place here. Tables are really spaced out and the staff wore masks the whole time. Just made the whole experience so much more relaxing. Friendly atmosphere and really enjoyed talking with the new owners. They've done an amazing job!!! Wow! What a great afternoon with friends and pooches at 3 Fox! New owners and management have made some nice changes. Was there late last year and decided to try it again to see what the new owners have done amidst COVID-19 and take hubby (since he did not go last year). Reserved a covered table along the creek and the location could not have been better. It is a very short hike down a slightly sloping hill bit so worth it. Under the shade, next to the creek (great for pets and kids), wine tent with bottle sales close by. Hubby is planning to take his team there in the near future, he likes it that much. Wine was lovely - our group had the rose, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, and Nebbiolo. I think I've found my new favorite VA winery! read more

My visit to Three Fox exceeded my expectations, and was different (in a good way) from other winery experiences I've had in Virginia Wine Country. It was easy to find Three Fox, with direct access from I-66 and Route 17, onto their own private gravel road and parking lot (which is ample). The getting-oneself-acclimated process was fairly easy: park for free, and then decide if you're going to do a tasting (indoors or outdoors), or play some bocce ball among the vines, or take your picnic basket to one of the many tables (with umbrellas)...OR, if you're really lucky and happen to arrive when Three Fox opens at 11 AM on a Saturday, head directly to the top of the grassy knoll to "the table in the sky". My friends and I were fortunate enough to snag the aforementioned table and enjoyed the most perfect sunny VA early summer day. It's so nice to bring your own food, which we did in droves, but they also have an outside vendor selling BBQ sandwiches, which smelled pretty tasty. We purchased wines from the inside shop, and other reviews are right-on about these wines being sweeter and Italian-style, but I don't fancy myself a wine connoisseur; I just love wineries and the experiences that they impart. That said, we really enjoyed the Gatto Bianco and the Pinot Grigio. We didn't try any of their reds, as we were feeling more the white wines that day, especially with the foods we brought. Don't be put off by the port-o-potties; they're actually as nice as port-o-potties can be, and the staff has even "decorated" them to look very homey and nice, plus they're neutrally-scented; you almost forget you're in an outdoor potty. Plus, the more wine you drink, the less you care. Just don't drive in that case :) The views were absolutely spectacular, the company was fabulous, the staff was wonderful, and early in the afternoon, a nice duo of musicians set up shop under a tent at the base of the hill for some perfect ambient music. I'd happily return here, even if not to sit at the big table on the hill, but to chill at the smaller tables at the base (easier bathroom/wine/food access) and also to play bocce or bean bags/corn hole! read more

This was the last stop of the winery tour. 10 tastings for 4.00? Here's my debit card! Cha-ching! Seriously. We just came from a winery that charged us 10.00 for 10 tastings. WTF? Here's what we sampled: Legero Chardonnay 2007 Calabrese Pinot Grigio 2008 La Boheme Viognier 2008 Gatto Biano (non vintage) Cano Pazzo Rose (non vintage) Il Signor Sangiovese Reserve 2007 Maestro (non vintage) Piemontese Nebbiolo 2008 Alouette Cabernet Franc 2008 Rosso Dolce Chambourcin 2008 My favorites: Gatto Bianco (very citrusy and crisp), Maestro (light red), and Rosso Dolce Chambourcin (tasted like cherries). I felt like the tasting was a lightning round; there really wasn't much savoring or taking our time like we did the first place. The pours were good for about 2.5 sips per wine, which for this half Japanese is more than fine when we are talking about TEN wines and rushing through 'em. Hiccup. They have a charming shop that sells a variety of wine related gifts as well as a cold case containing gourmet meats and cheeses. I managed to pick up the -cutest- cheese knife set that I can't wait to assemble meats and cheeses on to go with some of my newly purchased wine. OMG. In case the outdoor tasting bar is full, don't worry because there are two more indoors. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, plus fairly priced wines for the quality, make this a sure to return vineyard. read more

A fun place to stop while visiting area wineries. A very cute winery situated in a barn with super friendly service. The guy who helped us knew a ton about wine and was very informative. This winery is kind of neat because they do Italian-style wines and grow a lot of grapes I haven't seen elsewhere in Virginia. We particularly enjoyed their Sangiovese. There were two versions of it, one that was pure sangiovese and one that was blended with cab franc and chambourcin to even out the flavor. We really enjoyed the blend and bought it, along with a tasty cab franc and the Virginia sparkling wine they sell. My only critique would be that the need to grow a bit in order to keep up with demand. Several of the varieties they were selling had been bottled or sold early because they ran out of the previous vintage. A few we tasted seemed as though they had potential to be good if they were left to sit a while longer, but we weren't ready to commit at the state they were in when they were poured. In all, I'd definitely stop by again! read more

I have to agree with the other yelpers about the setting and staff at Three Fox Vineyards. A really nice laid back vineyard. Went there a few weeks ago and it was a great place to go to get away from the city. Pack a picnic and pick up a bottle or two after your tastings and enjoy the grassy hills, a game of horseshoes, volleyball, or just wander around the rows and rows of grapes. YES, that's right, you can actually walk around within the vineyard without a 30 person mob tour group, or catching a view of microscopic grape vines from a far away tasting room. The wines were pretty tasty and we ended up picking up a bottle of white and a dessert wine. But the staff was really really personable and talked about each wine, the vineyard, and was just super friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely not pushy and didn't make you feel like you're in an infomercial. PROS: Setting, easy parking, great view, friendly staff. CONS: Bathrooms - basically decorated Outhouses, wines are a bit pricey depending on what you select (then again i'm in no way a wine connoisseur and am a great fan of $3 bottles from Trader Joes). TIP: As Mel B. mentioned this is also a great place for pets (if you have pets and aren't allergic of course). When I went, there were only the owner's two very well trained border collies, and two dogs with other visitors. They were having a fun time in the great big open grass. However, you'll probably want to make sure to keep them on a leash. One dog took off and it was painful to watch it's owner try to chase his four legged friend up that the super steep hill. i got winded just watching them... read more

I really had a pleasant time here over my Thanksgiving break. It is also one of the nicest vineyards. Here, its all about location, location, location! While waiting for the others to arrive, I spent a fair amount of time laying in one of the hammocks down the hill from the parking area. They have quite a few set up right by the river which made for an absolutely peaceful relaxing afternoon with only my thoughts to keep me occupied. Now on to the wines: Though not a big fan of reds, I found most of them pretty tolerable and not half bad. Great whites, but not many on the menu. Good fruity accents to them. The labels with pets on them look surprisingly amateur considering the sophisticated ambiance of the place. (but maybe thats just the graphic designer in me talking). Prices: A bit pricey. I liked that they had a few Italian game areas and fire pits set up outdoors here nearby to the wine tasting tent we were at outside. Great atmosphere. Even though the bathroom was porta-potty- it was a porta potty like no other! They spruced it up as much as possible with all kinds of home decor inside, little painted kitch signs, potpourri, wreaths, leaves, decorations, and so forth... even decorated the trash bin! read more

So the tasting started with whites and we didn't know how to comment because many of them tasted like something went wrong during fermentation. They didn't taste like wine. Family and I stumbled upon Three Fox Vineyard on Father's Day and had a great time. We took a bottle of house merlot out to the lawn and gorged ourselves with sundried tomato cheese featured from a local cheese producer (hey, if you serve local brands, i'm all about your business). TFV even provides you with a complimentary cutting board and cheese knife. The property is beautiful and is lined with massive wooden lawn furniture --enough for everyone to have their own with a bottle of wine and some goodies. It is also a dog friendly winery and we were lucky enough to share a few cuddles with some big affectionate dogs. A nice spot tucked away into the foothills of NW Virginia! read more

I really do not recommend anyone to come visit Three Fox unless all other neighboring wineries are closed. We came in a group of 15, and were accommodated to the larger side of the tasting room. Some of us had to sit by the barrel since there wasn't enough space. The female hostess who appeared to be the manager were stunned by how young we all looked. We were all about 25-26 years old, and I think the staff definitely took advantage of us for being young professionals from DC. Our guide started off saying "Because you're such a big group..." we all thought he was going to end by offering some discount or whatever, but ended saying "you each have to pay $15 each if you want to wine-taste and get a glass." I was kind of miffed by the price since another group came in and they were charged $11 each. This kind of arbitrary pricing, though not labeled anywhere in the winery, made me ticked throughout the wine tasting experience. Moreover, he didn't offer us any other alternative besides the $15 wine-tasting fee. Our guide proceeded to serve us uneven pours, and spoke in a monotone voice about the history behind each wine. During the tasting, a friend of mine asked for crackers and the guide asked us to purchase them on our own. She then asked the guide for a discount for a bottle of champagne to celebrate our friends' engagement, and he said no. So we ended up asking the female hostess/manager and she gave us a 15% discount. Overall, we ended up purchasing three bottles from Three Fox, along with crackers, cheeses, and sausages, just because we were in a celebratory mood. However, we did not get a free full glass of wine for our liking after the wine-tasting. Three Fox is absolutely one of the more frugal wineries I've been to in the northern Virginia area. At other locations, I've had free tastings or free glasses. The price of $15 for 10 pours was not worth it because the pours were in uneven, small portions. Last but not least, the bathroom is a complete joke. I get that it's a port-a-potty decorated in cute fixtures, but get a real damn toilet if you're charging wine up the wazoo. read more

We love this vineyard! It's great on Sundays as they are sometimes a little quieter and you get to pick wherever you wish to sit! The vine was great and so were the snacks! The view is amazing! Plus it's dog friendly! So we get to do it with our family, friends and pup! The customer service is amazing! Plus the owners are just as amazing. They loved our pup and we can't wait to go back! We make sure this is our go to vineyard! Plus you're allowed to take your own snacks as long as you purchase your wine there! read more

I had heard about Three Fox Vineyards from a friend and was intrigued by the husband and wife run vineyard producing Italian Style wines and pet friendly policy. So this past Sunday, man friend, Charlie the Tzu and I made a visit. We arrived and drove up a rather steep dirt road and initiated parking break in front of a small yellow house. The front yard had some cute high top tables custom made from wine barrels with bar stools and an angel fountain. The property itself is beautiful with lush green rolling hills and grape vines in the Delaplane area. We walked along the side of the house into their tasting room which was rather nice with stone floors, wooden bar, and welcoming staff. An older Italian gentleman named Frank led our tasting and was very helpful, knowledgeable of the property and wines, and even got to talking about our mutual love for Italy since that is where both he and my family are from. Halfway into our tasting, one of the winery owners, Ms. Holli walked in with her pink birthday princess crown and crown all smiles and good spirits (which I thought was AMAZING! You GO Girl!). Ms. Holli is OH SO FABULOUS and FUN and incredibly hospitable. She immediately took to our Charlie the Tzu and made our pup the star of a show. She donned him with a Three Fox Vineyards bandana and doggie treats which he obviously LOVED! We've been to many "dog friendly wineries" but Three Fox Vineyards really welcomes pups with open arms. Tastings are regularly $10 for 12 wines (+$2 for the Sparkling Guest Wine which we of course wanted to try) We tasted: Leggero Chardonnay, Calabrese Pinot Grigio, La Boheme Viognier, Gatto Bianco (Holli's sassy white cat is on the label!), Guest Wine T-J Blanc de Chardonnay (very nice and interesting dry "bubbly" chardonnay), Cano Pazzo Rose (lovely dry rose), Signor Sangiovese, Vilpe Sangiovese, Piemontese Nebbiolo, La Trovatella Merlot, Alouette Carbernet Franc, Rosso Dolce Chambourcin (high alcohol level of a true port but without the sugar rush). I was very impressed by their wines as each sip took me back to my days adventuring around Italy (aka the homeland). I could not resist taking home three bottles (Rose, Signor Sangiovese, Chambourcin) but could have easily bought more. Boyfriend and I bought glasses of the Pinot Grigio and Nebbiolo to enjoy outside while Charlie ate his dog treats and we played corn hole, bocce ball and horseshoes. Three Fox Vineyards is a GREAT place to spend the afternoon. Bring a picnic, enjoy some delicious wine, play some games and enjoy the "Tuscan" oh wait, Virginian sun! Vineyard Owners, Ted and Holli, and their staff are AMAZING and really make you feel like family. We'll be back for sure! Charlie will be wearing his Three Fox Vineyards bandana, don't you worry! The grounds are beautiful, and I really wanted to like this winery. They went all out with the tasting area, and the site itself is wonderful. Unfortunately, my like stopped there. The service was abrupt and rather rude for the tasting. On top of that, we didn't like any of their wines. This wasn't even a case of not liking one or two, but the reds were flat, and the whites tasted like pee. I go wine tasting in VA relatively often, so I know it's not regional. . . they just weren't good wines, and I didn't get the friendly reception I'm used to at other VA wineries. Husband and I spent Saturday afternoon here this past weekend. We arrived around 2:30 and the place was packed just as we expected. Even though the place was insanely busy, we got to do our tasting immediately. Our hostess was lovely and she did a great job of managing the multiple tastings she was doing at once. We bought several bottles of our favorite wines and had them open a bottle of their rose so that we could enjoy it with our lunch. We sat outside at one of their picnic tables and took in the gorgeous view. It was a relaxed vibe amidst the tons of people who were there. I visited on a holiday, and I guess the whole Three Fox family was there - we were greeted on our way in by about 15 people. Once inside, however, we waited quite some time to do our tasting (and there was no one else in the tasting room). We paid $5 per tasting (of 10 wines), and the glass was not included. Some of the whites had been bottled too recently to be served, and still smelled and tasted of the bottling gases. I enjoyed the Leggero Chardonnay, though I do prefer a chardonnay with a bit of oak (neither at Three Fox are oaked). I also liked the 2006 Sangiovese Reserve, though it was a little red for my taste. I LOVED the Rosso Dolce Chambourcin, though I must admit that chambourcin is my favorite wine grape. Period. They serve it at the tasting with a chocolate kiss (sip, bite, sip). Yummy - very yummy. The setting of Three Fox couldn't be any nicer - sprawling open space with picnic tables and hammocks. I think this is definitely somewhere that I'll be visiting again with a picnic. Be careful on the gravel drive - it's a very steep incline and the poor Nissan Sentra serving as our chariot struggled a bit. read more

Drive slowly as you approach this winery. The entrance is a tiny bridge off of Route 17 and can easily be missed. This is a popular place so get here early for good parking and service. Parking is on gravel. The tasting room is tiny, however, it looks like a nice place to get a bottle and have a picnic outside during a nice sunny day. I am a fan of white wines, but the only white I liked here was the Leggero Chardonnay- very light, crisp, and citrusy. I agree with Takaki on the other whites- something went wrong or at least nothing struck me as unique. I wound up buying the Leggero and look forward to sipping it while I make dinner with cheese and crackers. There was a $4 tasting fee with 9 wines here and dogs. Good god are there dogs. I am super allergic to dogs so it made me really nervous at first so as someone who is allergic I would venture to say that they should be more careful with that. But not everyone is allergic so I need to be more objective. It wasn't sales pitchy and there wasn't a lot of pressure to buy- she walked away and let us savor our experience whereas other pourers stand right in front of you waiting for you to decide (which is why I recommend in the title of my "Day Trips/ VA Wineries" to go when it's busy so you can easily slip back into the crowd and let the next couple step up). We had nice conversation with them- about food compliments, the legislative problems with Bills saying they cannot distribute their wines, and about some General Wine 101. It was really laid back and informal, tiny counter space so you feel a bit smushed if it's packed. The day trip: You can hit Three Foxes, Naked Mountain and Mediterranean Cellars in a day. Homey. Quaint. It struck me as a ma & pop type operation, which is nice. The wine tasting was $5 for 12 wines!?!?! Find me a better deal and yelp it to me.
