    Hot chocolate with whipped cream

Service was quick & efficient during a busy lunch rush. Our group got eggs Benedict, macaroni & cheese, and the buffalo chicken wrap - all delicious. The star of the show was the hot cocoa. Best hot chocolate I've had in my entire 34 years of life.

I can say I rarely write reviews here. I moved to nyc about two months ago and can say this is the worst restaurant I've been to. The food is beyond overpriced. Ordered pancakes and an omelette. The pancake supreme set was about $28 and I swear a $5 pancake at a low end diner is far better. My wife's omelette was fine but her potatoes were all burned. So food was beyond bad. If you want a good meal, this is not the place. Service was bad as well. Had to ask for water 3 times.

Definitely overpriced for a diner but it's the Upper East Side so I guess it comes with the territory. Other than the bill, the food was tasty & the service was quick.

Pretty disappointed in this restaurant. There was a wait to be seated on a Saturday which was expected but I also thought it meant that the food was going to be amazing, I was incredibly underwhelmed. Our tuna melt was not even close to melted, and the omelette was just average. The food would have been acceptable if it wasn't so expensive, for two dishes we paid almost $80, at a diner! It's very hard to find a reasonably priced diner in NY anymore but I would sooner return to one with better food. Service was standard, had to flag the waiter down a few times but they were incredibly busy so we understood

Bacon Mac and Cheese Chopped Bacon (meh, order something else instead!)

Eating here was a decision made out of convenience -- we had just found parking half a block away from this spot after circling the Met area for what felt like at least 20 minutes, and we were starving! As someone who's been pretty careful about COVID-19 exposure, I was tempted to turn around when I noticed the staff's indifferent approach toward COVID-19 preventive measures in the packed diner, but the full house convinced me to stay... "Wow, this restaurant must be pretty great if it can draw such a crowd," I mistakenly thought to myself. Thinking back, I'm almost positive that most of the patrons were tourists who have yet to realize that NYC is their oyster. We were lucky and didn't have to wait for a table despite the bustling activity. Once we sat down, we were immediately greeted by our server, who, thankfully, donned a mask. I debated between the plain mac and cheese and the bacon mac and cheese for a long time before settling with the latter, which was a few dollars more than the plain option. The food came quickly, but sadly, the food did not justify the price tag of $20 ($18 on the menu, but $20 on the check). I've never had such dry mac and cheese at a restaurant before that wasn't baked. It was really lacking sauce (please give it more cheese or something!) and some zing to upgrade it into a restaurant-quality dish. I think I made the right choice getting it with bacon though because I can't imagine how plain the regular mac and cheese would be! If I could turn back time, I would follow my friend's lead and order the quesadilla which came with three different sauces. My fiancé thought the eggs Benedict was not bad, but he wishes that he ordered a side of potatoes with it -- hash browns to be exact, but this was not available on the menu. The menu was still quite impressive, as it seemed to offer more than your average diner. One difference, though, is that they did not serve complimentary items like bread and a basic beverage of your choosing, which is very common in diners. Personally, I thought the portions were pretty small, but everyone else thought it was on par with any other diner. I'd have to disagree because it's not often that I can finish my meal at a restaurant -- in fact, my whole group licked their plates clean. On the menu, it was said that if you pay in cash, you would save at least 3%. This was extremely misleading because it reads as if there would be a discount if cash was used. However, what they meant was there would be an additional 3%+ charge for using card. I hope they fix the wording on the menu.

I had a tuna fish sandwich and a cup of ice tea how can they charge me $26.10 .... Service was good and quick.... Ambiance of the restaurant was good clean, I would come here again but not for a almost $30 sandwich...

Panini pressed chicken sandwich with mozzarella and pesto
    Juan G.

Pass on this spot. Your in nyc where you definitely have options. I had ordered the grilled chicken panini press with mozzarella and pesto. Added some slices of avocado to it too. You can see from the pic that it wasn't a press but a folded up pita. The chicken was a bit dry and tonight to eat. I ate half and I was good. The hostess seem like a sweet older lady but I was a walk in customer and she thought it be better to gossip with one of the two only customers inside. Seems like most of the diners ate outside. Not a fan of those smoking outside while your eating and apparently no one cared. Regards to Covid. They don't care to enforce any rules of wearing your mask and I even noticed that the staff picked up the garnishes without gloves.

The food is good but it's extremely overpriced. Is it because of the Madison Ave address?

It got a little noisy when more parties were sat, but we could still mostly hear each other. Plus the host took a pic of all of us and the storefront when I asked. Not everywhere will do that. Only negative I could say is that it was a bit pricey, but I figured that's New York City pricing, as it was $30 for my salad plus salmon, which is only like $18-20 here in Maryland. Only 3 stars or so for the food. It was ok, but didn't knock my socks off. I mean, it really was fine, but not the wow I'd been led to expect. And then less than 2 stars for the ambiance, which makes me sad. The decor was fine up to a point. Lovely bar stools. But the corner we sat in? None of the photos on the walls around us were straightened or hung equally. It was a bit disturbing (ie not relaxing) and confusing to the eye. And the music was this weird mash up of disco and 70s harder rock. Weird, as it is supposed to be a higher end dining experience. Hm. I would hire the server, but would look someplace else to spend my money on another meal in the area.

For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. The first night we sat at the bar (it was crowded and we didn't have reservations) and made some friends who recommended Ivan's (the bartender) espresso martinis. Although we were drinking some white wine we decided after finishing those we would try them. Ivan makes them special with a little Bailey's! They were incredible! Like a dessert but not too sweet. Ivan shared his recommendations with us and we had some good conversation. We ordered a pasta dish with shrimp and Brussels salad as well. All very tasty. I sat at the bar and ordered a simple pasta with red sauce, some meatballs, and broccolini. The pasta was perfectly al dente and absorbed the red sauce nicely. It was not too oily either, if anything it could have had a touch more, but again this let the tomatoes come through. The pork and beef. meatballs are dense and served in a thickened tomato sauce. The bread that comes with it is nice for finishing that gorgeous sauce which does have a sprinkling of parm. The broccolini had a a touch of garlic and served with a lemon.
