I visited NO for a weekend and was told to go to Frenchman St. This was my favorite spot of the three I visited. It wasn't too crowded (it wasn't empty either, but I wasn't constantly being bumped by people). The music was really good (I don't know if it's a house band or if I just came on a good night) and the bartenders were attentive. If you're visiting NO and want a break from Bourbon St. Frenchman St. is REALLY fun. read more

A gem along Frenchmen Street! Knowledgeable waitstaff, helpful hostess and delicious food. I had a drink special that was amazing (and strong!), subtle yet fruity. My husband and I shared a bowl of gumbo that had a flavorful broth - I could have drank it straight. We also shared bacon wrapped blue cheese dates (YUM!) in a balsamic reduction and a dish of fancy Brussels sprouts with ramen crunchies on top. Live music rounded out the evening. Try it! read more

This place was great. The food was absolutely fantastic and worth the price, the drinks were creative and strong. The bartenders were really friendly. My biggest complaint was that the crowd didn't seem to care that there were musicians there; everyone was shouting over the music and didn't really clap at the end of songs or for solos... kind of defeats the purpose of being in a jazz club, no? read more

Okay, one star, two reasons. 1. Rudest. bartender. ever. What a shame that I have to give this place 1 star because of some lanky, ridiculous bartender. The way that he spoke to most of the customers that night was like, "you're such an idiot, what kind of stupid question is that." But, it was so off-putting and we'll never go back because who needs that kind a snarkiness on vacation, or any time for that matter. 2. The hostess told us to sit at the bar and she'd get us a table in 30 min. 2 drinks and 1.5 hours later, we were seated (maybe we are idiots). But, we were enjoying the music so much and the food looked so good. When we finally felt it was enough and got up to leave, she magically got us a table. Ta da! Now the food (not portion size) was excellent, and so was the music. But the service? Come on Three Muses, fix that. read more

Three of us enjoyed sharing a variety of plates. falafel mozzarella, tempura shrimp, blue cheese stuffed figs, Italian baked mac & cheese The falafel crust on the mozzarella was perfectly prepared and crunchy. There were plenty of shrimp and the tempura batter was nicely seasoned. What a creamy mac & cheese! Perfectly matched cheese for the sauce and the herbed bread crumbs added a nice crunch. Most unusual and tried for the first time, the blue cheese stuffed figs were so flavorful and such a great combination. Don't forget to check out the nice variety of cocktails. The Muse, Spaghetti Western, The Other Redhead and Earl Grey Gardens were all delightful. The addition of Joe Cabral's live music made the night perfect. read more

Came by and put my name down and was told it was a 1 hour and 45 min wait. Table should be ready at 10:15. I came back at 10:15 and was told that dinner service ended at 10:00 PM. Not acceptable! They should have never taken my name down. Instead of waiting for this restaurant I could have found another one. Host had the decency to tell me what other restaurants might still have food at this hour, but I don't think that makes up for this. If you come late, double check that the kitchen will still be open. read more

Great music and food. We were at NOLA for conference and Friday night was our only chance to dine at this restaurant. There was a 1.5 H wait for a table but Charlinda helped us to at least be seated at the bar and order from same menu. We were so happy and ate all the food we were hoping to taste. read more

Great food. Great music. Great service. Went here two nights in a row after randomly finding it while searching for some quality music. Thanks to the random bartender on Royal Street who told us to get in a cab and head to Frenchmans Street if we wanted the highest quality music in New Orleans, and group of bars where the locals go to enjoy good music. Damn, how many 5 star reviews can I write for Frenchman St? At least one more :) The place is awesome. More upscale than say the hole in the wall, though excellent, Apple Barrel and Spotted Cat. In a similar vain as those places, no cover and they expect you to buy something from the bar. An L shaped, wood bar towards the back. High top and low top tables scattered about. A small, but good beer selection. NOLA and Brooklyn as the standouts. Lots of good bourbon and well crafted cocktails. Unlike most places that make monstrosities like a hurricane. Can you say Pimms Cup, hell ya. I think the service is great. Everything is ordered at the bar, so it might be a little slow when packed. Though all the bartenders seemed to be on top of things. The food is nothing short of excellent. Small plates, that come out fast. A small happy hour menu. The stuffed dates are awesome. Lobster ravioli, and Duck Confit flatbread are a must. The music speaks for itself. The Royal Roses brought down the house when I visited. Always great acts playing. An absolute must stop for great music and food on Frenchman. You know, what can I add that others haven't? We came here on a Monday night so the wait wasn't as crazy. After 25 minutes of chilling and listening to the band we got a seat at the bar. We ordered lamp sliders (amazing) a steak rice bowl (solid) and their special potato skins with duck sausage. The potato skins were delish but I kinda wish I tried their feta fries instead. The band playing was awesome. Bartender did a great job on our drinks. We visited about 4 bars on Frenchmen street and this one has the best cocktail and food options. For the quality the prices seemed to be in line with the other bars and much cheaper than anything like this would be in Boston or ny! Loved it and would return again soon had we had another night in NOLA! read more

In NOLA for a few days, and this was -- hands down -- the best restaurant we ate at. A statement like that might set the bar too high for others; but for us, the food and music were sublime. Between two of us, we shared: 1) Edamame (tastily flavored with toasted sesame oil) ($4) 2) Yucca fries w/ Cuban "mojo" sauce (Yucca fries are already great, but the sauce was AWESOME) ($5) 3) Gulf fish tacos (tastily flavored with cumin marinated peppers and some kind of aioli) ($9) 4) Three cheese herb ravioli (w/ broccoli) ($8) We had an order of lamb sliders, too; but they took a while, and we got full, so we cancelled them. Everything above (minus the lamb sliders) cost less than $30. And the band (didn't catch their name) was simply awesome. Very fun and peppy music. read more

This place is awesome! My boyfriend and I recently had a very short stint in NOLA. We spent our first night on Bourbon street and were ready for a more authentic experience. We walked over to Frenchman St around 7pm and got into this place with no wait about 15 minutes before the live music started. The place was about 1/2 full at that point. With an hour it was completely full. Earlier in the day we had done some shopping in the area and my bf noticed some of the shop workers hanging out here so it was nice to see this is a local favorite which is what we were looking for. The entertainment was great! We thoroughly enjoyed the band and stayed for a couple hours. The dining experience was great as well. This is a small plates venue so you definitely want to order a few different things. We started off with the korean pork ribs and also an order of the pork belly. Both were great, although the ribs could have used more sauce. We later got the shrimp tempura which were absolutely phenomenal and addicting, as well as the basil gnocchi. By far the best thing were the shrimp. The gnocchi were also wonderfully soft and pillowy, and the sauce was devine. Desert was an afterthought and was just ok, not a must here in my book. read more

Oh yes! This place is great. The food here is so creative, the atmosphere is awesome, and the prices are right. The freaking Tandoori Tacos are out of this world. Fried oysters and grits, my god! The live music is, of course, great, and everyone in the place seems to be having a good time. It's small, and they don't take reservations. So, go early, or be prepared to wait. This is a small place. 1st, the food is inexpensive, and when it comes out, you understand why - very small dishes. I thought it was a place for a meal, but this place is really a live music joint with drinking and appetizers. That being said, the food is pretty darn good. The duck pastrami pizza is AMAZING. Definitely get it. The braised pork belly is delicious, and so is the mussels. Seared duck breast was also really good. Fries are ok, but not great. Ms. Moon's boogogi - a korean dish - is not very good. I didn't expect it to be, as it's not a korean bbq joint. The only other dish I've had there that wasn't worth it was cheese ravioli. Blah. Again, the dishes are really small. As for the music and atmosphere, it was probably the best jazz place i've ever been too. Music is great, and the performers are interactive - going into the crowd and singing to them....really a lot of fun. excellent for music and drinks.... read more

One of my top 3 jazz bars in all of the French Quarter. I came here for the first time for a friend's birthday party, and was hooked right away. I love that there's always music playing in here, and offers a great selections of drinks and food (I always go for the local Abita ambers!). The place is a bit small, so it can get awfully crowded on weekends, but come weekdays, it's a great place to relax. What's great about the 3 Muses is that you can grab a drink, and when the music act is taking their break, you can go out on Frenchmen Street and check out the street bands, or bars playing next door, and then come back into 3 Muses when the act is back on. Just come to the Three Muses to hang out after you're off of work, or just want a chill evening in the city... or a way to pre-funk before you hit up Bourbon Street ;-) read more

In a series of incredibly fortunate events, we stumbled upon the Yelp listing for Three Muses, arrived to a packed venue and were somehow seated immediately (5 ppl), caught the end of Raphael and Norbert's stellar set, and had the most delicious tapas imaginable. Everything was delicious!!!! We ordered salmon spring rolls which were very good, refreshing and light. Next on our tapas list were the lamb burgers. Although I'm not a huge fan of lamb, these were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Very interesting and yummy taste. Lastly and most important, the bacon wrapped dates!!! They were drizzled with a balsamic reduction that gave them the most perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness while complementing and enhancing the taste of the bacon and dates. read more

The food was very good and the band was fun, but the service was just okay and I left spending a lot of money and still VERY hungry. I know tapas is not a huge meal but you should at least feel satisfied, no? My favorite was the braised pork belly. It was serviced topped with pears and cabbage on a little flatbread. Came here without a reservation on a crowded Friday night. We got a spot at the bar and had a couple drinks before we were seated for dinner. Jazz performers that night were great. Food I would say are small plates tapas style. Fusion food is what it looks like. The mac n cheese was my favorite. It was well flavored and creamy. The pork belly with apple chutney was well cooked and the crispy wonton was a great addition. The steak and cake was a popular choice but it was very underwhelming. read more

I actually want to give three-and-a-half stars ONLY because I think the prices are a little steep. However, this place is lovely, the food was really very good and damn creative. Just really teeny. A group can rack up a huge bill without getting full VERY easily, but you know what? That's really patrons error and not Three Muses' fault, so screw it. I'll throw in the extra 1/2 star to make four. Three Muses is a great looking bar. My sort of place. Clean, lots of wood, chalkboards, friendly staff, good music, fun cocktails, fun food. This is NOT a place to go if you are starving. Pull a Scarlet O'Hara and eat before you go, but save room for some of the very special small plates they offer. The mussels? We could have eaten a hundred. the sauce was awesome. We ended up dipping our fries in it. Feta fries? Tasty, but honestly it's not like feta sticks, so you do end up with a bowl of cheese when all the fires are gone. Coconut shrimp were a winner (what fried shrimp is bad?) and there was some sort of frittery sweet potato thing (or was it butternut squash?) that was lovely. Not heavy and oily but truly light and fluffy inside. Pork belly sliky and rich. And a terrific lemon icebox pie. The best of New Orleans all in one spot: funky, fun atmosphere, great local music and fantastic gastropub fare. I had half of the items on the menu, but there were several standouts. The Steak and (Crab) Cake was really perfection. The meat and crab were both so tasty and worked well together. (The steak was fork tender.) The Shrimp Tempura was not what I expected: saucy shrimps on a bed of lettuce. But like a magic trick it had a complex and delicious flavor. I also enjoyed the daily special ice cream: Mexican Chocolate Chunk. It had a spicy kick and huge lumps of fudge brownie. Good eats. There was a lively crowd, but seating came available quickly. The crowd flowed in and out for a couple hours while we enjoyed the small plates. Wonderful vibe on a weeknight--laid back and fun. The mid-evening band was Luke Winslow King--he channels Leon Redbone with a little more Texas Swing...really good. Happy Hour is a great time to try this place out. Lots of little plates served in sets of three bites: Fantastic deviled-style eggs; fries are just OK; Halumi (Greek cheese)-stuffed roasted grape leaves were good. Bulgogi (roasted beef rice bowl-Korean inspired) was nice with the hot sauce mixed in. Didn't try the pork, but will next time. Dessert was Mexican chocolate ice cream--perfect. Crispin cider and a few beers on tap; perfect caipirinas. I could have drunk those all night, and this is an all-night kinda' place. read more

True culinary bliss - the food was delicious and sophisticated, free of convention and rules of any sort, kinda like NOLA itself. Pickle chips were crispy and tangy. We also ordered lamb sliders, local tomato heirloom salad, portobello ravioli and ratatouille bruschetta. Each of which had the balance and excitement of what would come out of a Michelin star but way more fun and wholesome :) To top it off a decadent empanada with warm gooey banana and Nutella ice cream. The music was a delight. Service was special - all the staff kept checking on us periodically. Will come back for sure to try EVERYTHING else on the menu. read more

My friends and I visited New Orleans during Thanksgiving weekend and decided to visit this pub due to rave reviews. We waited 1.5 hours as told by the host at the door. I didn't mind the wait and I was looking forward to the food! Keep in mind, food is ordered a the bar. You can open a tab or close it and pay the order immediately I ordered the Smoked Mushroom Ragout Bucatini. After the waiter served my plate, I split some with my friends. To my surprise, I have to say I have never ate an undercooked pasta until I got to Three Muses. The flavors were great but I could barely chew the pasta. My friends suggested to tell the waiter about the undercooked pasta. I told one of my waiters about the pasta and she took the plate to get me a new one. 5 mins later, a different waiter approached me and said they couldn't get me a new plate because I "ate most of it" and that they could put down a new order. After my friends showed the uneaten split pasta on their plates, the waiter said "OK I believe you" and walked away without acknowledging an apology. Needless to say, the new plate came out 25 mins later and the pasta was STILL undercooked. I was going to let the waiter's bad attitude slide once the new plate of pasta came out. Too bad the pasta couldn't even meet the expectations. I regret paying tips prior to getting food I couldn't eat. 2 stars given for decent live music. The rest sucks. read more

OMB! Oh my Buddha, for those of you who are not in the know. This place is amaze balls!! Hands down our favorite place in the whole city. It has everything you need in one sweet spot. Good drinks, good food and good music. If you don't get here early, you may end up waiting for over an hour because the place is on the small side and everyone tends to stay for a long time enjoying all those things I just mentioned. On to the important stuff. I usually get the Muse as my cocktail. It's very girly, but I don't care. I'm a girl. And it's great. All the other specialty drinks are quite delicious too. The food menu has changed multiple times in the last three years. But long time standouts are the lamb sliders and the steak and cake. They've had many varieties of mac and cheese dishes, and we've gotten all of them. Creamy, cheesy goodness every time. There was a duck confit pasta dish awhile back that was out of this world! Sadly, it has not made a return appearance on the menu. The ambiance is easy, breezy, laid back, sweet and romantic. And it can't get any better than being on Frenchmen Street. After a great meal and listening to awesome music, you walk outside and there's plenty more fun that awaits you. Overall, you're missing out if you haven't come here yet. If I was made of money and had some magic gene that allowed me to indulge in calories without the resulting pounds, then my ass would be here every night. Except Tuesdays. As with other reviewers, I wish I could give Three Muses 4 stars, but the service is a weak link. While the rough-edged Toulouse Lautrec feel of the interior works well, the shabby boho look and attitude of the waitstaff is a tired reflection of Williamsburg or Austin. Attempts at "coolness" need to be replaced by being friendly, present and attentive to the diners. That said, the food is tasty. The bacon-wrapped dates were as delicious as they sound. The tacos were excellent and the scallops perfectly cooked. The beet salad with stuffed falafel was a highlight as well. While the food is reasonably priced, neither the wine nor the cocktails are a good value in a city that prides ourselves on such things. There's effectively no price break for bottle vs. by the glass wine. Cocktails are priced similarly to those at Sylvain, Cure or Treo, but aren't in the same league in terms of taste or complexity. We weren't offered desert. The excellent music deserves a mention--nicely played traditional Jazz that engaged the room without overpowering conversations--and it is this (and the small plates) that will bring me back to Three Muses. read more

Stopped in here because we looked through some yelp reviews, and j have to say, I think I had the ABSOLUTE best shrimp I have ever had here. Seriously. Get anything with shrimp in it here.
