Tried this place when it first opened - Got a few pies and dishes that were all delicious. For coming on the first week of opening and maybe even the first day, staff was well versed in their routine. Great service, great ambiance, great food, great drinks. My partner & I live in the neighborhood. We were very excited to have a new spot open in the neighborhood. We dined at Three.One. Four on opening night. We expected bumps as it was the second night open ( they had a soft opening the night before). We were disappointed to learn the restaurant doesn't serve cocktails. We ordered the meatballs, little spicy pizza, Caesar salad, and Nutella calzone. The meatballs were okay, not as flavorful as I'd like. The caesar was standard. However, I was not a fan of the lettuce wedges which we had to cut up & toss ourselves. Lastly, the little spicy pizza (may have gotten the name wrong) was underwhelming. Based on other people's pictures of the pizza, I think my pizza was undercooked. The breading was light in color & very chewy (the knife provided couldn't cut through it). I loved the sausage on the pizza but it was sparse, the pizza was mostly bread. The Nutella calzone was great! The bread was undercooked yet we enjoyed that dish the most. The service was wonderful! Our server was on top of all the small aspects of our dining experience. We will try the restaurant out again in a few months when they are more established. We really want to like this place but our first experience was underwhelming. read more

Sorry to say it was a disappointing. The best aspects were: pizza flavor and crust were very good, wine was good, staff was nice. However, the portions were miniscule for the price (ie. appetizer had 3 tiny meatballs). The seats were dirty. Our waiter didn't know the ingredients/dishes or the wines well. The music was bad. My husband and I have been her a few times and the food has been excellent each time. We've tried a number of dishes. The salads are incredibly fresh and unique and tasty. The pasta is amazing. And the pies are delish! Tonight we were celebrating my husband's birthday and they gave him a handwritten birthday card! So sweet! But we couldn't stop talking about the cauliflower fritti, chicory salad, rigatoni pasta, and margarita pizza. My husband even said the cauliflower dish was the best cauliflower he's ever tasted. The last time we were there, just over a week ago, we were the most thrilled and impressed yet! We arrived toward the end of happy hour were impressed by the happy hour options. Great value in a beautiful setting. The Cesar salad is perfect. We have tried many of the pizzas and love them all. But the pro tip is at the bottom of the menu- the Shhhhh. Ask about the pasta specials. WOW. Probably the best Carbonara in Berkeley, if not the East Bay. The service is the perfect balance between so friendly and warm and so knowledgeable and professional. So glad we finally made it to Three One Four. My husband, son, mother in law, and I went here on a rainy Friday night. The glow from the fireplace made it feel extra cozy. The wait staff was knowledgeable and welcoming. We had pizzas, a salad, and the fried dough appetizer. We also had the olive oil cake and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was delicious but the tiramisu was epic. It's made table side and having fresh made tiramisu takes it to another level. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the dressing on the arugula salad was a little too vinegary. If I could do like 4.75 stars I would. We will definitely be back. read more

We had reservations. The restaurant was not very busy. We were seated right by the entrance/host desk. We asked if we could be moved to a more private location and were refused. We also asked if the door could be closed because it was chilly. They refused. These interactions set us off on the wrong foot. We ordered the black tart. Don't get it. It's not good. There was probably a dime size of brie on the whole thing. It's also not a tart. It's this weird soft cracker base. The salad we ordered was good and we liked one of the 2 pizzas we ordered (east bay). There are many good pizza places in this area with high-quality ingredients and more generous serving sizes. An insult to diners, Neapolitans, and above all the ingredients. Pizza crusts are DOA - you can't mitigate a leaden, melamine bottom with crispy edges, folks. I know the City of Berkeley isn't loving biomass cooking technologies these days, but that's 99.99% of human history and the soul of Italian pizza. WOW is all I can say! Nice cozy vibe upon entering - great for a date night or easy Sunday dinner. The owner Mr. Wilson, greeted us and we were seated in a cozy area inside downstairs. Fireplace going, cocktails ordered. Our server was a young man - very jovial and forthcoming with recommendations for food & drinks. Did I say WOW? Maserati, lemon drop cocktails were strong but that's the beginning - brussel sprout appetizer - perfect! The star was the Cacio e pepe prepared table-side just stunning - al dente pasta swirled around a Parmesan wheel-bowl just capturing all the creamy love - would make Stanley Tucci cry! It's just that good! Two pizzas - pepperoni and one with sausage/Calabrian chili - shared family-style - we are still talking about this place! Atmosphere, service & food, value just trifecta mesh perfectly! Definitely worthy of a trek from South Bay. Can't wait to go back and try baked pasta! read more

Well, nobody asked for another pizza joint in this area, so if you do come a knockin' you should offer something "different". What appears to be an attempt at traditional Napoletana meets 1990's california cuisine unfortunately comes up missing. The charcuterie plate at $23 was a mess, small amount of three meats, the Mortadella tasting like it was sliced a few days prior, and the odd combination of cheeses didn't hit the spot. There are great places to have this kind of dish, so why just "throw' this together. The $19 farro salad was a joke, a small mound of grains dressed in a watery pesto and assorted shavings was two dimensional. I would have paid $4 for it to accompany a deli sandwich. We had the ghost town pizza with pepperoni, uneventful. Now, we did find the cacio e pepe to be quite nice, could use more pepe, but it was a satisfying dish. The creativity/quality for the price range of this restaurant is off, $200 for three diners demands more thoughtful dishes. Not expecting Berkeley to notice is an insult. Only offering one brand of each liquor also tells us Three One Four didn't take into consideration the level of sophistication we expect from a bar program. I'm rooting for them, however I believe there needs to be a lot of retooling. read more

the food was amazing and the service was on point and all of it looked great! the only thing was the service I was looking around at other peoples tables and I noticed that for long periods of time there were no servers available. It appeared to me that there were only three servers and then the kitchen staff but its ok because it was a Sunday but next time I go hopefully they have hired more staff.But besides that the founder was in house and was very nice.The tables were also very nicely lit and set with dim lighting which set the mood for the restaurant.Until the food came it was beautiful yummy and tasty and cherli temples were delicious should totally be on your radar for kids dinner place! read more

Love this place. Took a group of 10 and sat on the porch area. We all loved it! Staff was great and met the owner - great guy. We shared most of the menu. Squid ink app was great. Cacio De Pepe was really nice too. All of the pizzas were a hit. Good wine list as well. We had a few bottles of the aglianico. The topper was the Tiramisu at the table. Never had it this way. Had a wonderful time at "three one four"! Four of us met for dinner and were aware of the noise level right away, but have to say this seemed to quickly fade because 'three one four ' is so lively and warm, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is welcoming, upbeat and fun! The owner was nearby, answered our questions - "what no vodka" ?? He is so excited and happy with his restaurant , his delight is contagious! He explained his vision of his bartenders being attentive to customers rather than preoccupied with getting 9- point drinks out. I get that ( a former bartender myself) and appreciated him taking the time to talk about this in the most undefensive and open way ! The alcohol here is served neat or on the rocks. There was not a hint of restaurant snobbery or pretension here- and this is so refreshing and welcomed! Later, while we were pursuing the dessert menu, he overheard me say to my friends that tiramisu often disappoints me in restaurants. He informed me that the tiramisu here, which is prepared at the table , will not disappoint. He was absolutely right- wow- a showstopper with light espresso soaked ladyfingers layered mascarpone, and shaved chocolate on top! We also had the affogato with salted Caramel gelato. Yum! We shared a couple of starters- a wonderful Caesar like little gem salad- delicious with fresh anchovies and excellent homemade garlicky croutons, and fried zucchini - We shared two pizzas - one gluten free and the other regular- any pizza can be made gluten free which is a treat to have options- they were both delicious- one with sausage called " a little spicy"- delicious! And the gluten free one - "the east bay" - with Sottocenere al tartufo amazing! Both gluten free and regular crust doughs were crisp and thin. We each had wines by the glass- the wine list is small but with excellent selections . We were each happy with our selections. I will definitely be back here, and soon! read more
