I had to step out of line, find the confirmation email, and return to the counter--only then did the associate acknowledge my reservation. Even though I reserved a mid-size vehicle, I was told none were available and was forced into a full-size SUV at nearly twice the quoted price. I waited over an hour to get the vehicle, then had to spend another 30 minutes searching for the keys because no one was available to assist with checkout. To make things worse, the associate added insurance coverage even though I explicitly declined it. This felt like a blatant upsell tactic and left me feeling taken advantage of. We booked and prepaid for the rental through Wisecars. Wisecars told us that we may need to show credit card at rental desk to verify the voucher. We waited in line for 3 hours to get to the rental desk (no other rental car agencies had lines anywhere near as long!!) and then when we got to the desk the attendant asked for the credit card and signature. When we got home we realized she had charged us for extras we did not want and she did not ask us about! The $250 rental became a $600 rental! I was overall pleasantly surprised by my experience with Thrifty. I booked through them because they were the cheapest and later on got pretty worried by all the bad reviews I found online about Thrifty, saying things like how they ran out of cars, there were 1-2 hour lines, and they overcharged you a lot of the time. I experienced none of these things during my rental. There was a little mixup with the rates when we picked up the car, but they fixed it and I was very happy with the car that they gave me. The one thing with Thrifty that was true that I read from reviews was that their customer service is awful. I had to call a couple times before I picked up the car and each time was about 20-30 minutes on hold. That sounded expensive and I had no idea of what tolls I might encounter. So, I did not take it. It turns out that I incurred $3.60 in toll fees. A week or so after I returned home I got a bill for $48.60 for the fees I had incurred. They charge $15 for every dollar of fees incurred. That is just WRONG!! I did turn down the device, but even the charge for that was way too high and it was not explained to me that they would be charging so much in admin fees. My family and I went to Salt Lake City in Feb 2025 and we went to pick up our reservation from Thrifty at the airport. They said they didn't have a vehicle for us and we would have to wait 3 hours. Another person next to us walked up and got a vehicle right away. I asked if they had vehicles but just not in our rented category which was a mid-size SUV. The employee said they had a Ford edge but it was in the full size SUV category which we didn't rent. I asked them to put us in that vehicle because they over booked our vehicle which was their fault and not ours. They refused and said we could pay to upgrade to the Ford Edge. I asked how much and they said it would be $650 for our 4 day car rental. I had paid $200 for our 4 day car rental for a mid-size SUV so I told them they were crazy if they were going to get triple the price when it was their fault they overbooked us. I called corporate Thrifty and they said they would try to upgrade me and asked to speak with the employees and manager at the desk. The employees refused to speak to corporate and said they don't talk to anyone. Even the manager refused to speak to corporate. It was horrible customer service at its best. After 2 hours of waiting 50 feet from the desk my wife went to ask how much longer and they said our car has been ready. We asked why anyone didn't tell us! They said we should have got a notification. I showed them my phone to prove no notification was received. They didn't apologize or try to offer any money back for their problem of making us wait. in advance, i rented a car for a 12:00 pick or after at the Salt lake airport. After multiple flight delays I realized I could not pick up until after 8. I called around 4:00 to state I was running late and they said I violated the agreement and for $75 more they would reserve my car. About 30 mins before that call I had just selected my car using a link that came in on my text. The Customer Service agent advised me I would not get car if I didn't acknowledge agreement to pay more using email which I could not access for some reason in the airport, albeit I had already selected the car from a link on my phone. They stated they could not use phone for acknowledgement, I could only agree via email. Otherwise my entire 4 day reservation was void, but I had to still pay the entire amount. Funny thing was, my son got to SLC airport before me and got into the car I selected and the keys were in it as this was occurring. I have to ask Thrifty why they would cancel a 4 day reservation, charge the patron for the entire amount or require them to pay $75 more when the patron was late due to flight delays. When we flew into Raleigh last week our car rental experience was horrific. We had to wait in line for over 1 1/2 hours to get the paperwork and then we had to wait for at least 45 minutes to get a car. People who had reserved mid-size cars were taking compacts because they were tired of waiting and the people who reserved compacts were very upset because other people were taking their cars. We came to the car pick-up place in Atlanta airport in Georgia only to be told that they can't give us our reserved car because their system showed the names were showing as one name with no spaces although I showed them on my phone that everything was correct in the app. I was forced to cancel my booking and make another one when I was charged extra for the second driver even though I asked specifically to make it one driver only since it was their main reason not to give us our first reservation. After a couple of weeks, I received the receipt and saw that we were charged for two drivers and one day extra and a late fee!! Our flight was on February 2nd and they stated that we returned the car on February 3rd! That's only possible if they see some ghosts or intentionally lied and are charged for an extra day!!! Additionally, I have flight itineraries, parking receipts indicating my presence in Atlanta for only one day, and my credit card statement showing an overcharge of $16.30 by Thrifty Car Rental. Regrettably, despite numerous attempts to resolve this matter with Thrifty Car Rental's customer service department, I have received no satisfactory response. They have not provided a reasonable explanation for the discrepancy in the return date and the overcharge. I have requested a refund of the overcharged amount and a correction of their erroneous return date, but my concerns have been ignored. I urge all consumers to exercise caution when dealing with Thrifty Car Rental and to thoroughly review their bills and contracts. I paid Thrifty the full rate ($529.04) through Expedia prior to my trip. Five days upon returning home from the trip I've been charged $367.39 by Thrifty. I was told when checking out the car that amount was a "deposit" that would be waived upon return of the vehicle. To make matters worse, I cannot call a live person to talk about this, nor will their online portal to "your customer experience" take my information I continually get an error message reading "There was a problem sending your information. They halfheartedly offered me a minivan, which I neither wanted (was traveling in the mountains on narrow roads) nor felt confident in driving. I booked a Premium car from Thrifty at the last minute...paid up front at one fourth the price of SIXT. Got to Las Vegas and took a bus to the Rental Car Center. It was 22:00 and I was tired after a 5 hour flight. Got to the counter and waited less than 5 minutes. I was greeted by a delightful lady at the counter. The process was fast and direct and she directed me out the door to a outdoor pick up counter. There I met Rowena and Terry...the night shift. What a pleasure to deal with. Terry explained they had no premium car but she would get me one from Hertz. She handed me the contract and told me where to find the car. They charged $33 for gas even though my rental was only for a few hours. I had that removed, but still paid $90 for a few hours. I booked a "special" car. I saw compact and this for the same price. The car was no different than a compact so I'm not sure what was special about it. I get to the car & it's super tiny. Above all of that, when I turned the car on, the gas light was on. I went to the desk & the guy said I could take it on empty & just bring it back on empty. WHO DOES THAT??? I'm visiting Chicago. I don't know where gas stations are! We booked a car at the Baltimore Washington International Airport for our travel from 9/28/23-10/02/23 and were shocked to find they had no gas cars unless you had a minimum of 2 hours to wait. All of the employees could care less that they were inconveniencing many customers, which led me to believe that this is a common occurrence. Since we still had a 3 hour drive ahead of us we opted for an electric vehicle. We were told where to go in the garage to retrieve a vehicle. As we were looking at a vehicle, a rude worker chose to drive a car right next to where we were standing to park another car. Now mind you there was an entire row of empty spots to park. He asked us what the problem was with the car we were perusing and we said nothing, we were just checking out the model since we weren't familiar with electric cars. He looked in the dashboard of the vehicle and said, well this one is gas. We asked if we could take it and he said he didn't care. So we did. The only issue I had with my experience is the physical set-up of this location. I realize it's an airport car rental location, but since they are actually off of the airport property, they should be a little more accessible to customers who might not be arriving on a Midway flight. I'm a local resident who needed a car for the weekend. So I had a ride to the rental place, but they don't allow personal cars in the garage, so I had issues physically trying to get to the 3rd floor location to pick-up the car. Not to mention I had bags which were inconvenient for me to handle by myself. Otherwise, I received great customer service. No hellos, goodbyes, or thank yous. It was freezing in the garage too, I stood in line for 30mins. When people started asking questions the attendant started screaming and yelling that she was helping ppl who were already gone. This REALLY upset the patrons in line.
