Just a quick update: they no longer server Oscar's Mexican Food. Recently they added a popcorn machine and serve that to those in need of munchies to go with their booze (as well as the occasional snack-mix or Goldfish they typically have). Nights can be sporadic in terms of crowds, though Wednesday Night Trivia is always a blast and attracts more than a few people. Thrusters is not a horrible bar, but it is just too damn small to really enjoy yourself. There is no cover here, which is always a plus in PB. As other reviews have stated, the bar is set up like a long hallway with a few small lounge seats towards the end of the bar. The dance floor is tiny! If you are looking to really dance in PB, Thrusters Lounge is not the bar. Since it is set up like a hallway, while you are dancing everyone is constantly walking back and forth through the dance floor that is already too small to begin with. The place is loud, but it is a bar so that is expected, but because the place is so small, Thrusters seems even louder than most places. While enjoying your drinks, you and your friends will be pressed up against each other on any given night with no seats in sight to relax at. The bartenders are average, but competent. One time I did ask for a screwdriver (Vodka and Orange juice) and the bartender gave me vodka and soda. However, I think he just was not able to hear me over the noise and not that he didn't know how to make one of the most basic drinks on earth. This place is a hidden, rusty gem. Hidden in the sense that it looks really dark and small from the outside but actually extends far in the back and is well lit by turquoise-neon lights that give off a cool vibe. Rusty in the sense that it looks kinda grunge on the outside but is actually quite clean on the inside. Great drink specials. Interesting crowd. It has a very local, laid back feel. I have to say that I think Thrusters might be on of my new favorite places in PB. I wanted to go there for a while, and managed to include it as a stop on a pub crawl that I planned for my boyfriend's birthday. Bearing in mind that we arrived at about 3:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon, there were only a few people at the bar, and they quickly cleared out once they saw a pack of 20-30 something year olds in matching t-shirts descending on the bar. We quickly order rounds (and rounds, and rounds) of bloody mary's, mimosas, and bottled beer (all of which were $2 - what a deal!). The bartender was ridiculously hot and even agreed to do a shot of Fernet with me - which he promptly declared was the most disgusting alcohol ever. But I digress. I'll have to head back at night sometime soon, but I loved the place. It was small but lots of fun, and had great drink specials. Sold! read more

Terrible experience. I have never in my life not tipped at a bar until this place. It was so bad so I asked for the manager's information. The 'manager' appeared, (probably not even the real manager) and I explained why I would not be leaving a tip, signed my receipt and left. Found out today that they altered my receipt to add tip themselves. Check your receipts if you go to this place. But if I did it might resemble something like this: I LIVE THISPLKACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're old. We don't like traveling far from the abode, and we're cheap. So we like a good pregame. We also sometimes like dancing (aka Thrust-ing) and we tend to roll on out solely to this place, anytime between 11:00 pm and midnight. We almost always end up with pounders (they used to... Maybe still do? Have a 40s night!) and if we're lucky, a ridiculous dance-off. Around 1:30 am the lights come on and the bouncers form a line and start pushing the crowd out of the long, hallway shaped space. Highly effective and very efficient but no lingering till closing time. As mentioned in other reviews, it's either packed or completely empty. More often than not, it's a cheap, unpretentious, and entertaining time. Videos on point, late night clientele (warning: sometimes a sausage fest) well worth watching and/or joining, and DJs hit-or-miss. But with the green lights flashing, bass thumping, and drinks downing, what can go wrong?! read more

PB cracks me up. I'd swear I was waiting online in NYC for a club on the West Side.. But instead it was a trailer home sized "Lounge" with a line of drunk morons around the corner which looked to be double the size of the Max. Capacity of the bar! I had realized that my wife and I booked our San Diego trip that was to occur at the same time as the NFC Championship game. Seeing as the Seahawks were playing the Packers for the chance to get back into the Superbowl, we needed to find a place that would (A) have the game on and (B) be Seahawk friendly. After searching on Google, Thruster's looked promising, so we decided to jump in the rental car and head to Pacific Beach. Since Thruster's had advertised as the official viewing party for Seahawk fans, we made sure to arrive early as we weren't sure how packed it would get for the game. We got there three hours early, and the place was already pretty busy. Thruster's had a DJ inside the bar and a full viewing party with an outdoor projector, seating and a taco truck. We decided to grab some tacos (which were fabulous) and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar. Thruster's had plenty of beers on tap, and man were they cheap! After hanging out for almost 6 hours, and about 10 pints later (between 2 people), our total bill was only a little over $30. Their special was $3 dollar beers, and that included their microbrews. Our bartender was very attentive, even with a full house. If they ever had to go through a stress test, like on the TV show Bar Rescue, they would easily pass with flying colors. Thruster's will always have a special place in my heart. As I was able to witness the comeback victory, surrounded by a bunch of other Hawk fans in SD. This was a pretty fun place to go. I think I might be a little biased, since I don't like PB much, and was roped into going to bars in PB instead of the Tower Bar, where I actually wanted to go. There is no entertainment here and the vibe is just off to me since it is so dark in here. They do have some specials and draw a crowd on the weekends for the games and at night for the weekend partiers. I have come here a few times now and the bartenders were not nice to me.
