Wow. Chili omelette special. Absolutely loved our breakfast here. The customer service, food, atmosphere, and everything about this experience was great! We got coffees and our waiter was kind enough to continuously ask us if he could top us off and was very attentive. The food was incredible. We did order two specials that I hope are permanent fixtures! The chili omelette was the best omelette I have ever eaten. The chili layered with cheese on top of the omelette was incredible. Absolutely love the food, that's an automatic 5 stars. I haven't had anything that I disliked yet, and usually I have a hard time narrowing down my selections. Everything comes out the kitchen hot and flavorful, though I will note that my omelets tend to be on the dryer side - I guess that's an egg preparedness preference. Now, as far as coming in and dining - that could use some work. If you're reading this on Yelp, you'll see that although they have a waiting list on their Yelp page, it rarely (if ever) is turned on. Meaning, you'll have to roll the dice and hope that you beat the crowd. Last time we went, a popup rain shower caught everyone that was waiting outside by surprise. And true to Atlanta, the rain stopped in 5 minutes leaving it hot and muggy during a 45 minute wait. When you come inside, you type your name/number into their iPad and it texts you that you have 5 minutes to hightail it inside. The servers give you a little sass, but nothing unprofessional or uncomfortable. Give it right back to them lol My only serious gripe is the cash-only payment. If you dined and weren't expecting that, your only option is to use their in-house ATM and get some cash for a fee. In a society that's moving to cashless, this seems to be a step backward, but maybe that's just me since their volume doesn't seem to be affected by it at all. read more

I was happy to eat here on my return to Atlanta. We took the redeye in and we needed to kill some time and grab breakfast. The menu is pretty standard. I had the pancakes, they weren't anything special but they were large. In fact, they were kinda dry and lacked a little flavor. The sausage was good though. I would've given a five star rating but the wait was just so long that I'd be lying if I could say it's five stars. Now the food on the other hand was delicious. The portions are perfect and more than likely your eyes will be a lot bigger than your stomach. Also the items on the menu are reasonably priced. Our waitress was responsive and on target with taking our orders. The table was fully stocked with all the essential condiments. I enjoyed the fried cat fish and the spuds. The potatoes had the perfect crispiness and the seasoning was just wow! The shrimp and grits are okay, but I've had better. The Double Dip French toast is delicious and I couldn't even finish it because the thick challah bread with fruit filled me up quickly. I was disappointed that they had no lemon slices for me to place in my water, but apparently the waitress explained it was covid related and some of the products they normally had on hand they had to stop offering. Not sure why, that was the first place that didn't have lemon slices. The best advice I can give is to get on the waitlist using the Yelp app so your wait isn't painstakingly long. Although I gave a 5 Star it's a 4.5 Star due to parking and the men who stand outside as you are parking harassing potential customers. The wait staff is great, we've had Angelica twice. Best server there. And everything that we have had is delicious. I have been to three locations and this one is by far my favorite, with East Point coming in at a close 2nd place. This place is always packed so go with your patience. Try it just once and you'll be hooked. I wish they had cinnamon rolls. Thumbs Up Diner, in my opinion, is a perfect 10 out of 10! The environment is always warm and inviting, and the mom and pop atmosphere will have you feeling right at home. Their breakfast is the best in the city, but if you've never ventured into the lunch side of the menu, you are missing out! It hurts me to do this...but I have to! I have been to this location a couple of times and while it's never been stellar, it's been a local steady-eddy. So when I was in the mood for breakfast but needed to stay local, of course thumbs up came to mind. Simple, diner style food that is usually decent. I love places that participate in the Yelp Waitlist because in-demand spots (like this one) can tend to have ridiculous lines. With waitlist, I get to add myself to the queue before leaving the house and arrive just in time to get there, chill and get seated. The other day, I did just that! The waitlist said 30-40 minutes which was perfect, so I planned accordingly. Unfortunately for whatever reason, that was FALSE. I ended up waiting for an additional 90 minutes on top of the 30-40 that was originally estimated. Now of course this original wait time was an estimate, but 1/3 the amount of time....no sir! When I was finally seated, I was assaulted by the dust and grime on the wall and light fixture. If I wasn't starving, I would have walked out. Having said that, I should have. The food was even less decent than I can recall from previous visits and the staff was mediocre at best. My waitress was actually quite pleasant and attentive, however the other staff members were rude and acted entitled. I WILL NOT be back! I highly suggest you take heed to this warning. Since it was just us two, we arrived in just in time to sit at the bar (our favorite). The staff was on their game. I mean they knew how to keep that place hopping. Coffee was served in the widest mug! And staff kept it filled. We each ordered a different skillet and would order them again! And the biscuit was as a biscuit should be - ask for the homemade jam, I had peach and it was divine. Excellent breakfast all around! Absolutely cute diner with great service. There are some traditional diner counter seats, booths, and some regular tables. There is also a men's and women's bathroom. We ordered a chicken finger breakfast biscuit sandwich with a side of gravy, a salmon and egg scramble with an everything bagel, and two buckwheat pancakes with maple syrup. Everything was good but the star of the show was the buckwheat pancake. I've never had a buckwheat pancake before but it was SOO GOOD. The pancakes were slightly nutty due to the buckwheat and they were soo moist and tender. Regular flour pancakes cannot compare to how moist and tender they were. Also, they were moist but not overly buttery or oily. I did not feel heavy after eating them. I do not know what sorcery they used to make them but I could have eaten 10 more pancakes.
