Always fun to visit a place with some history. For our first visit here we found it to be, well, a diner. Solid food, delivered relatively quickly with pleasant service. We did have to request more coffee on two separate occasions during our bfast - of course in the diner world that is a "no-no". Also, their "two top" booths are incredibly small. With all the accoutrement on the table, it's actually a bit difficult to eat. If we happen to be in the area, I'm sure we would stop by - but a special trip to seek it out? Likely not. read more

Small place actually looks bigger from the outside. A definite wait though so be prepared for that. We waited about 20min and just ended up sitting at the counter. I actually liked the seating because you can see directly into the kitchen & your drink is automatically refilled lol. I ordered the spuds skillet w scrambled eggs & bacon (also came w a biscuit) which was good & very filling I couldn't even finish it. Only thing I would change is not getting my spuds crispy bc they were borderline burnt a little too "crispy" for my liking. My wife got the pancakes w bacon eggs & grits. I would give this a 3.5 if I could! My girlfriend got the Special which was Strawberry French Toast( not on their regular menu!) Cheese Grits & a side of Bacon. I got the Thumbs of Hot Grits which came with Cheese Grits, Ham, Jalapeño, Onions, & Green onions served with either toast or a biscuit. Strawberry French Toast: Let's start out by saying this is HUGE! I mean massive which led her to believe it could be very doughy, but she was wrong. It was light, fluffy, and full of flavor. She loved they actually macerated their strawberries and had a huge portion of whipped cream. Very good! Thumbs of Hot Grits: The Grits were very good! The Grits were creamy and seasoned well. The raw jalapeños on top were a little much - personally I would've roasted them. The onions could've been caramelized a lot more. Some were very raw when you bit into which gave this horrible taste in your mouth. The ham was awesome and I didn't really care too much for the biscuit. It was doughy, so I added butter which made it a little better. Customer Service: We didn't get our food out at the same time which was kind of a bummer. I saw my server like twice the entire. Came into the restaurant 20 minutes later and when I said I had a to-go order the workers looked at me like I was mentally deranged. After already wasting 20 minutes of my time, they said they could put the order in now but it wouldn't be ready for another 20 minutes so I left. Aside from my own terrible experience, All of the workers seem to have no idea what they are doing, all running around like chickens with their heads cut off. My breakfast this morning was delicious! Ordered the Chicken and Waffle (asked for a blueberry waffle and got it), cheese grits, and a side of bacon. Everything was delicious and the chicken strips were seasoned great and we're moist. The cheese grits were great too. But the waffle was the best! The blueberries were obviously fresh and tasted great in that waffle! Great service this morning too, it helps to be nice to the servers here...because they remember you...and if they remember you AND like you, the lines out the door aren't necessarily a problem anymore. ;-) You get what you give at this place and I've always gotten good to great service! read more

Wish I had thought to take a photo to add to the review. The food was so bad that my guest and I didn't eat it. I ordered a sausage biscuit -- how hard can that be to pull off, right? Well, the sausage looked like it had been dehydrated, cooked, dropped on the floor and stepped on, and then put back on the grill before meeting the biscuit that looked like it was two weeks old. My guest ordered pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were gummy (as an aside they were not served with butter) and the bacon was so overcooked it snapped. The waitress asked how our food was, it was clear we had only taken a small bite, and when we told her it was awful her only response was "sorry." No one asked what they could do to fix the situation or offered any solution. We paid the check, left the uneaten food, and left. I don't know what happened to this restaurant, but if they continue as is they will be out of business in no time. read more

My mom was in town visiting my husband and me, so we decided to try Thumbs Up. I had heard good things about it and was eager to give it a try. The inside is very cute, and they have a good amount of seating. We went on a Monday morning around 10, and it was pretty busy since it was a holiday and many people were off work. We waited about 15 minutes for a table. Once we were seated our waitress immediately took our drink order. The service was very good. I ordered the Sonoma Omelette which consisted of chicken sausage, red onions, tomatoes, cheese, and avacados. You have the choice of a multi-grain biscuit or toast, and I went with the biscuit. I was not impressed with any of my food. Both were pretty bland. I had to add salt and pepper to my omelette for taste. Overall I'd say my experience was average. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Thumbs Up definitely isn't my first choice for breakfast food in Roswell. read more

1/19/20 I have to confess, this was our third stop in Roswell based on yelp ratings. The first place was way too small and the wait time was exorbitant while the second place was closed (forgot to look at that on a Sunday). This was the first time we visited there, even though they have apparently been open for seven or eight years. Anyway, we were very pleasantly surprised. Yes, it was loud as you would expect a diner to be, but we were able to seat ourselves and there was ample tables available when we arrived. The customer service was outstanding from our male server! He was at our table as soon as we sat down and helped us negotiate through the menu to put us at ease and suggest combos to save money. My coffee came right away and they served honey in the bottle so I didn't get it all over myself. My pecan waffle was loaded inside (not on top like most places) and my Sadona omelette was very tasty. As I mentioned earlier, our server was excellent. Every time I was getting close to emptying my coffee cup, he was there to refill it like Johnny on the spot. Impeccable timing. Our server gave us coffee to go and took our check to the register for us, unlike some other places. We will definitely go back! read more

The Catfish was crisp, hot, and flakey! A must try! The grits were good, but, I like a more creamy experience, if they added a little heavy cream or milk, it would send this into orbit! Worth 1 star for me. The French Toast was amazing! I was overjoyed for the fish, but if I wanted a sweet experience... this is the ticket! Firm outside, but bready goodness inside! We've already ate at the Decatur location and loved it. This one is just as good!! The service was wonderful and friendly. The food was delicious. They have options for vegetarians, people wanting some healthier choices, people who just don't eat pork (like myself), and people who just want some classic food. Thumbs Up Diner gave me an 80s feel when I walked in (this is at the Roswell Location). We had about a 10 minute wait (so not too bad). I ordered the Chicken & Waffles. The Waffle was a little too cooked, but it was still good. The chicken was MAGNIFICENT. There were about 5 chicken tenders, and they were seasoned so well. The blueberry pancakes were also delicious, and I literally only like plain pancakes. My friend made me try her blueberry pancakes, however. Service was pretty good here. My complaint for this place is that it wasn't as clean as it could have been. It didn't look like they wiped down the tables or jars well (as they had sticky residue). The women's bathroom was disgusting! No toilet paper...paper towels all on the floor, and rust around the toilet. Yuck! I didn't even want to use the restroom after seeing that. read more

Welp, this was a bummer. I am a huge fan of Thumbs Up, but unfortunately, I won't be returning to this location after my experience today. This is probably my 4th visit to this location, and for the most part, the service has always been great! However, today I ordered their Philly cheesesteak scrambler and was given an omelet instead. The reason I enjoy their scrambler is that I noticed I've noticed that it usually has more cheese than their omelets. When I asked to have it replaced, I witnessed the cooking staff take my omelet and "repurpose" it as a scrambler. Seriously? Also a major health violation. At this point, my scrambler was overcooked and I asked for a scrambler with the proper amount of cheese. After a second try and twenty minutes later, I was finally given my proper meal. When we received the check, they added an additional charge for the cheese. We asked for the manager, Jennifer, due to the poor service. When she came over, she told us that she couldn't adjust my meal at the request of the owner Brian, only the cheese charge. I asked if he was on location at the time and she told us no and that she called him. We later found out through our waitress that he was present at the location all along. Not only did they have no regard to the poor service (which isn't the first time I've had an order prepared wrong at this location) but the blatant ability to lie to our faces was completely disheartening. I'm a huge fan of Thumb's Up and I've referred many of my Roswell friends and family to this location. Unfortunately, they've lost a few patrons today. read more

Sit down, dear, we need to talk about french toast. When the weather gets rowdy in our parts, you may hear about a certain French Toast Alert system. Fearful locals head to their nearest market in panic to buy up all the eggs, bread and milk. One can only assume that french toast is essential to surviving the current "insert weather related apocalypse joke here". Maybe your french toast is so tough it can withstand high winds and be used to fortify your windows or maybe it can keep your feet warm during a particularly nasty ice storm. Nobody really knows the answer to this mystery. However, there is no mystery to the French Toast I recently made sweet love to at TU. The thick slice of challah bread was done exactly to my liking. A bit crisp on the outside, still soft on the inside without that funky egg-gel texture that can so often foil the simple dish. I like mine with just a little syrup, but rumor has it you can get other toppings. I think I spied some bananas running amok on a slice. Even early on a Friday, the place was hopping. We sat at the counter too hungry to wait for table. At the time, only one other breakfaster was there...she had french toast. We placed our orders with a friendly gal with cute earrings. We ordered french toast. A couple arrived and sat next to us. They ordered french toast. The owner came out to talk to us and we talked about the french toast. Then, we all ate the hell out of our french toast. As for the rest of the meal...bacon was bacon, chicken sausage was tasty, grits were decent. Considering that this is THE place for the after church crowd, I had mistakenly thought Thumbs Up would be much larger inside then it really is. Our party of 8 plus a child was a little too large to be easily accommodated. The waitstaff appeared to be very shocked by our size, why I'm not sure. They kept trying to split up our party offering two tables of four, and once a table for six and a separate one for two. Since we were having a baby shower with our bible study group, splitting up wasn't really something we were interested in. After an hour we were finally seated at a table for six with a chair and a high chair stuffed into the end. (you do the math) Our waitress seemed very annoyed at us and appeared to be not at all happy to be helping us. We asked if we could have the four top next to us once that party finished eating and were told that it wasn't her section, so it wasn't up to her. Our waitress then proceeded to ask us if we were comfortable. I'm not sure I can adequately describe what we looked like but there were eight (plus the kid) trying to squeeze into an area made for 6. One of the ladies was over 8 months pregnant and one of the men was sitting half on and half off his bench. We just looked at her and asked if we looked like we were comfortable. We didn't want to be rude, but we couldn't believe she asked that question. We ordered and wondered just how we were going to fit our plates onto the table since two of us were sitting with our elbows together trying to give others room. I am happy to say the next four events is where star #3 comes into play and things turned around very quickly. #1 - We received the extra table and were able to spread out. #2 - Our waitress became a little friendlier #3 - Our food was out within 10-15 minutes. (after waiting an hour we were very happy about this) #4 - The food was amazing! We loved every bite. I can't speak for the rest of the table, but there were happy faces all around. I came here on a Sunday morning about 10am. There was a bunch of people waiting for a table. They have indoor and outdoor seating and all was full. Since I was by myself I could sit at the counter, no waiting, great! Id never been to any of the Thumb's Up diners. So I had coffee, shrimp and grits, and a single French Toast as they looked good to check them out. The shrimp and grits were a bit better than average. They are $11.95. You have to pay $1.00 more if you want onion, tomato and green pepper in there too. I thought that kind of tacky if they are getting 5c short of 12 bucks and they cant manage some chopped veggies without an add on. Geez. The French Toast is really big. Texas Plus sized! It was very good. The coffee was really bad. Tasted like cheap coffee in a burned out brewer. There was a big bag wide open, not even air tight, and im sure it was generic grounds, just a clear sack. The people next to me ordered tea and she comes over with Trader Joes box and goes through that to let them pick a flavor. That didnt look appealing either. Service was real good. The gal was watching her area real well and nobody had to wait for her. So Service good, food an drink average. They do NOT take American Express. read more

This is a decent breakfast place when you're up for a change and don't mind waiting what can feel like a really long time (especially with such a cramped waiting area with limited seating). For a party of four on a Sunday around noon, the wait was about 25 minutes. Things started off a little rough when I requested a cup of orange tea and was informed that they were out. I settled for lemon tea but the waitress returned a few minutes later to inform me that they were also out of lemon tea. (Mint tea it was!) It seems odd that a breakfast establishment wouldn't have a huge amount of tea in stock...or maybe tea is just really popular right now. Anyway, I ordered the griddle grits, one egg srambled, and a biscuit. The biscuit was pretty good---very soft and fluffy on the inside and pretty darn ginormous. The eggs were fine; nothing special. The griddle grits, on the other hand, I had hoped would blow me away. Anyone who ever had the good fortune of eating at Crescent Moon before it closed knows how incredible griddle grits can be (and for those who didn't, think thin slab of grits that's been toasted on a griddle, well seasoned, and enhanced with cheese). Suffice to say that my expectations were that I'd be served someting along those lines. Alas, disappointment. The griddle grits at Thumbs up are super thick, moist, covered with a glob of cheese...and not very satisfying. Oh well. The price is right but the food is bland. I went to Thumbs up cafe to catch some brunch on this rainy Saturday looking for some warm quick service; something usually found at a diner. The place wasn't crowded and the service was friendly. I ordered an sausage, egg and cheese biscuit and my mom ordered the same on toast. We both got an order of "spuds" which are basically hash browns. The coffee we ordered to go with the meal was bitter and tasted old. I'm not sure if it was because it was sitting there for a while or because the type of coffee they had was just nasty but don't order coffee unless you like it dark, bold, and bitter. The biscuit was okay, albeit miniscule. The eggs were tasty but the sausage salted to hell. Good god, the sausage was salty. The "spuds" were pretty good and they come cooked with peppers and onions standard. Overall, for the two of us, the cost came to about 20 dollars including tip. For such little food, it wasn't that great of a price. The quality of the food was good but the taste was so-so at best. It was like a flavor see-saw with bland, bitter and salty all over the place.
