Thundercloud Subs. Does a sub shop get more Austiny? I think not. All Thunder cloud shops are essentially the same feel. You have some hipsters (no offense whatsoever) back there making great subs everyday of the week. The bread is baked and delivered every day to their locations and one can easily tell after the first bite. The ingredients hand chopped each day as well. I really enjoy the Austin club or Texas Tuna. The Austin club is sliced chicken breast, avocado and bacon. Of course you can always add lettuce, onion, cheese, thundersauce, or tomatoes free of charge. You can also add other extras for .25 each such as mushrooms, sprouts, hummus, and olives amongst other things. The texas tuna is tuna, jalepenos and avocado. Also probably the most underrated potato salad in Austin. This stuff is good and made in house. They include celery, onions and a few other seasonings that make it very good. I used to go here so much about 2-3 of the staff knew my face and would shoot the shit with me everytime I came in. They are a good bunch and usually very positive. If you haven't been to Thundercloud then you cant call yourself an Austinite. Go here for your next lunch and thank me later. read more

Decent sandwiches. But the last two salads I've had were old. The lettuce was wilted/frozen and the ends were turning brown. Never again.

First note, I love T Cloud as a whole. This location is not up to the T Cloud standard. I've been feeling this way for a while, but continued to believe that maybe the one sandwich artist I had that day just wasn't feeling it. But this has happened like 3 times now and action must be taken! Listen, I understand science. I get that when certain foods are exposed to the elements (i.e. Oxygen) they begin to brown. Guacamole/Avocado being one of those foods. But twice now I've been served guac (on a salad and a Texas Tuna) that was waaay more towards the brown side of the brown VS. green scale that the FDA uses to judge all guac products. Not cool, man! I don't want to eat brown guac. I've also been checking out pics people are posting on this Yelp page and the guac looks sketch af! I know y'all feel me on this. It's nasty. Got 2 sandwiches today. Meatball sub and TX Tuna. We're an 8 min drive from shop to home. Both of our sandwiches' bread were soggy when we got home bc homegirl over-sauced both our sandwiches . Straight buzzkill. I'm pretty over it. I'll be heading to other T Clouds in the future. Dreaming of green guac and bread that doesn't have the consistency of a wet paper bag. See ya! read more

I have been here for four years and just got introduced to TC. I had chalked it up to another fast food sammich shop. Shame on Me! I was totally wrong. Fresh, tasty, healthy and veggie friendly. I was so bored with the Subway veggie sub. But TC veggie sub with HUMMUS is awesome. Prices are good and the staff seems to be generally of good wit and cheer. I'll be back! read more

This place is like a warm, fuzzy slipper for me. Um, without the fuzz and hair and such... ;) I have a few stand by's here: California Club, Texas Tuna and The Office. All on wheat, which they have made fresh by a local baker I think they told me, the staff is never anything short of awesome and entertaining. Again, a totally Austin experience here, but great for a good sandwich and the BEST carrot cake!! I'm in love with it. I also love how they have to cut up a pickle when you want them on your sandwich, something about that says they care.... ? :) haha, n y way, keep going here, will for as long as I live close to one. I've only been here once but Thundercloud makes the worst sandwiches in the entire world. They somehow managed to make food worse than Subway. I asked to get half ham and half roast beef and they said they couldn't without charging me for a double portion of meat. I then asked for swiss cheese and they said they don't carry swiss cheese. If you're looking for a delicious sandwich full of meat, cheese and toppings go somewhere else. Their subs taste dry and are full of lettuce and not much else. read more

I have no idea why people like this place so much. I was so not impressed. There was nothing at all spectacular about their sandwiches. They weren't inedible or anything but their sandwiches you could just as easily make at home. This would be a 3 star rating for me but the employees don't wear gloves while they make your food. That's pretty disgusting whether they washed their hands or not. If some stranger came up to you while eating, told you he just washed his hands, then stuck his bare finger straight into your sandwich would you still eat it? Yeah, how is this any different. I like that you can call your order in, in advance so you don't have to wait on line. The kids meals are a real bargain, and include cookie, drink and chips. The adult subs werre nothing spectacular, but were fresh, with fresh ingredients. I had a pastrami and cheese and it was quite good. The only thing that really bothered me, and kept me from giving them a higher rating is hygene. The sandwich makers don't wear disposable gloves, and to be honest were not the cleanest cut individuals you would expect to see. If I were in management, I woulld be concerned that the health department would cite this store or shut it down. read more

First time at a Thundercloud. So exciting, now I know hat this place is about! Sammiches taste fresh an are refreshing in my stomach. The atmosphere was a little ordinary but the customer service and music were spot-on. I didn't want bacon so the guy helping my gf and I put extra meat on my sammich. I can't complain, more protein for me! I will probably be back, but most likely to a location around where I live. read more

What's not to like about thunderclouds?! I truly don't have a memory when I didn't eat thunderclouds (the location on lake Austin Blvd. was my second home when I went to Austin high down the street). The bread (the whole wheat)i s outstanding! The California club is way above average (it had avocados). It's an Austin institution, that MUST be visited at least a half a dozen times a month. If you don't love Thundercloud Subs, you must not be from Austin. Definitely definitely eat here if you are in the area or even if you aren't! The staff is friendly, the bread kicks Subway's bread in the butt, the chicken is the bomb and the bathrooms are clean. I rarely eat at any other sub shop! read more

Ordered the club sub. Really good. Fresh ingredients. Small is about the size of a 6in sub. Get the thunder sauce!

Long time fans - we have tried many different chains and new sandwich fads, but nothing beats Thundercloud and the Wm Cannon location is the best of the best. In the 10+ years that we have been going to this location, they have never ever gotten one thing wrong. It took me a while to find the sandwich that I love at this place but once I tasted the NADA chicken sub my search was over. It's great and is vegetarian so it's one of the lower calorie sandwiches. I don't like that there is an up charge for every little add on that you get but I'll keep coming back. read more

This review is for any Thundercloud Subs, not just the W. William Cannon location... If you've lived in Austin any serious length of time, you're bound to have visited a Thundercloud Subs by now. If you want a consistently high quality, inexpensive, tasty sandwich served by a friendly staff, this is the place to go. My fave subs alternate between the traditional club, California club, egg salad, pastrami, and nada chicken. But you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I never pay more than 8 bucks for a sandwich, chips, and drink. And you're supporting a local business when you eat here. Along with half the hipster population in Austin, which TC always seems to employ. read more

Thundercloud is a chain not because they know how to skimp but because they know how to make seriously great sandwiches! I highly recommend the NY Italian (don't wuss out and not get the peppers!), the Mesquite Chicken or the Tuna. Great food and the new location is very nice. read more
